I was unfortunately told not to go through the dealer and told to use Pontiac directly since two dealers were involved. This has basically left my Aztek without a home.
Here's an update on what's going on with my situation. I think we're making some progress. I hope this turns out well so I can tell people here that you might get a headache if you have major problems, but in the end GM will work for you. So far I can't say that, but they do seem to be trying.
This morning I got a call from GM. They informed me that they had read my letter. I was confused since I only mailed it yesterday. She said they had it from Edmunds.com's forum where I posted it. Wow, they really do monitor those forums! She asked me what was going on and I explained the whole story. I also explained that I was being told to drive a car that I didn't feel was safe and that I was still waiting for parts. She sounded very concerned that the wheels lost power and also said that the threat made by Demany White at Customer Assistance and the hold put on this by the Area Service Rep were unacceptable. She never told me not to drive the car, but said she would make some calls to find out what was going on.
She called me back a little later and told me that Nourse had the part I needed for my next repair and told me to set up an appt to take it in. I thought that was pretty fast. I called Nourse and they said the earliest they could do it would be Monday. I was cool with this, but still didn't think it was right for me to be driving the car. So around noon I called the lady at GM back, she wasn't in. I left a message saying the repair was scheduled for Monday, and I wondered why they still had me driving it until then. She called back a little later and told me to take the car to Nourse and that I'd get a loaner. I did and am now stuck with a Neon. Eww. I am happy to have a loaner though and it shows that someone at GM didn't think it was safe for me to be driving the car.
Moving along with the story. I got another call from GM a while ago. They told me that Nourse had managed to find time to put the parts on and that it's all fixed. She said they're just doing some final test driving to make sure everything's okay. That was about 4 and it's 7 now. Either something's still going wrong or they're doing a ton of driving. I hope they didn't pressure Nourse in to doing the repair today. I know they were busy and had some guys sick today and I'd feel bad if mine got pushed to the front of the line because I complained. She also told me that GM was prepared to offer me a 5yr/50,000 extended warranty. I told her I already had a 7yr/100k mile bumper to bumper no deductable warranty. I also asked if it would void my right to arbitration and count as a settlement. She said she didn't know. I declined the warranty and told her I appreciated the warranty work they are currently doing, but I am still seeking replacement or refund. I explained that the car met other conditions for Ohio's Lemon law other than this single repair and that I didn't feel they could guarantee me that previous defects didn't damage other parts of the car or that the car's long history of shop visits would stop after this repair. She said she'd let the "people" know that's what I wanted and we left it at that.
All-in-all I think today went well. I'm getting more warranty work and piling up more work orders. I also have the loaner which shows someone thought the car wasn't safe. If they're finding more problems during the test drive it also helps my argument.
Thanks again everyone,
Noastar (looking forward to some trouble free miles)
By the way, does anyone know how many 2001's were sold?
I'm sure you patted yourself on the back for that one.
"Please join other Aztek enthusiasts in Edmunds.com Pontiac Aztek Owner's Club!"
Azteck entusiasts? Is that sopme type of genetically mutated species that was just created?
Nah, we're just a species evolved enough to have wives and girlfriends intelligent enough to not say moronic things like "It's roomy. It has a big back seat." when they get in our cars.
1. Clunking during shifting into and out of park.
2. Clunking during downshifting in motion.
3. Clunking during gas disengagement and then reengagement.
4. Strong Vibrations from rear at 2200RPM.
5. Spontaneous Power Loss to wheels causing drop in speed. (A safety issue so they put me in a loaner).
Supposedly all these problems are all due to the same thing which they believe is the bad prop shaft. The bad prop shaft was incedentally caused by me driving on a bad drive shaft which just so happened to be reported by yours truly one year ago but everyone told me was fine. If further work is needed, I'm going to beg for a non-smoking loaner since the one I have is an ashtray on wheels and makes me nauseated to drive.
Well, anyway, wish me luck.
Also from the same source, note that the July 2002 sales is 4,229 vehicles, compare to last year month figure of 1,682 cars.
My 2001 Pontiac Aztek is approaching 20,000 miles. With the exception of the rear hatch door, I have had no problem so far.
Here's that update for those keeping track. I went to the dealership today and took a test drive with the service manager. We were out for nearly an hour. He wanted me to go through all five of my complaints one by one...
1. "Clunking during shifting into and out of park."
We got in the car and I just went through the gears while we were stopped including into and out of park. Sure enough the clunking was all there. The guy said he hadn't heard clunking like that on anything but a big heavy duty diesel truck. This problem was confirmed and still exists.
2. "Vibrations at 2200RPM from rear."
We started off after the tranny test and sure enough the vibrations were still there. At times during the drive they were so loud they obscured us from hearing the other clunks. Problem two was confirmed and still exists.
3. "Clunking during downshifting while in motion."
We got to the top of a big hill and dropped it into third manually...*CLUNK*. Then down to second and another. When we went down to first there was a metallic snap and some more clunks. He confirmed the problem was still there.
4. "Clunking during gas disengagement then reengagement."
I tried to get this to happen by coasting a then pressing the gas and it seemed to be fixed. Then after the hill test while I wasn't trying, I hit the gas and sure enough the sound of crashing metal. Problem still there.
5. We were trying to climb another hill and he confirmed we were losing power despite the engine trying. Sporadic power loss confirmed and still exists.
All five problems were still there. Apparently the bad prop shaft had nothing to do with these problems. I asked him for an estimate on when it would be back and he said he honestly didn't know. He was really stumped. So I gave him back my keys and trudged over to the Neon ashtray-on-wheels loaner they gave me and went home.
Since then I called the GM rep who's handling my BBB complaint and she said the guy I test drove with is at lunch and she'd have to talk with him. She did however go into what kind of replacement/repurchase plan I would be interested in "IF" they decided to offer me that. I told her I would like a 2003 replacement or repurchase so I can buy a 2003. If they authorize a replacement they can feel free to put me in a loaner until it's ready. There aren't any 2002s left around in this area so either way I'd be sitting in a loaner for a while. I figure why should I take an older model that's been sitting on a lot for months when they can give me a new fully loaded 2003 (mine is a fully loaded 2001) which included a tire pressure monitoring system and XM. The sticker price on the 2003 will actually be about $2,500 less than my 2001 so it's a fair deal.
I'm still waiting to hear back from her. In the meantime I'm stuck with the Neon and have no idea when I'll ever see my Aztek again.
My payment including insurance is about $650/mo.
Why don't you call you insurance company and find out whether they would "turn off" your insurance for the 3 weeks. I think some insurance companies will do that.

Until that time I am to continue driving the Neon, they will not authorize another car regardless of the smoke and ash interior and will not authorize me to drive over 150miles in a day (which is how far it is to medical school). I have several trips to make to move, but am not allowed to drive the car that far!!! Basically they're holding my car hostage, not doing any work on it, putting me in a far lesser value loaner, and not giving me enough mileage to use the car!!!
I'm paying a monthly loan, interest, and insurance on a 30k dollar car and it's sitting on a lot collecting dust. My payment including insurance is about $650/mo. That money all goes to waste this month. There's also no guarantee that the service rep will make any decision on the 27th, that's just when he'll get around to it.
I'm dumbfounded by the whole thing. I WANT MY TEK BACK!!! Ms. Hauser said there was no safety concern and I told her I have the paperwork for Nourse saying power loss occured and if that isn't a safety concern I don't know what is. I also mentioned that if it's not why am I in a loaner?
I plan to contact the Attorney General's office and our NBC, CBS, and ABC affiliates tomorrow to report that my car was basically stolen from me and they have made no suggestions about giving it back any time soon.
Tidester,
Thanks. I however can't turn off the insurance because I'm making payments on it. The bank still owns the car and requires full insurance on it. It's not being garaged at the lot too. It just sits out and damage could occur.
"area service manager" must inspect the car. He will do this at his convenience not yours after all you are ONLY the customer. You can not reach this individual since his phone and address are GM secrets. (Ford/Chrysler publish there zone offices). These same people consider "loss of power" not a safety issue. Seven times they have had the vehicle. Forgot - they gave a loaner which reeks of smoking and costs about 1/3 the cost of the aztek. the vehicle was repaired for the same problem six times. The last time the service manager and owner took a test ride. You guessed it - loss of power and all other problems still there. Zone manager will get around to it
8/27/02 but still not a safety hazard and may be "fixed" this week. not holding my breath.
GM service is sweet and nice untill it counts then they bail to the "zone". buyer beware - beware-beware. pray you get a good one if not you are in for an uphill battle. Supervisors names are not provided so one is stuck with the initial contact person
Do you have problems with rain on the windshield...since there are no wipers? How about the back view with the spoiler/split design? Do you get accustomed quickly? I'm looking to get an Aztec soon. Thanks!
"We have had our Aztek GT for a little over a year and about 20k miles. We've had a couple things go wrong (I posted on edmunds) but nothing major... overall we are quite happy with it! We use it frequently for camping and the wife uses it even for hauling lumber! I like how unique it is and its versatility. They are a great value new or used, feature-packed for a value price (no I DON'T work for a dealer or GM!
also - forgot to answer your questions about the windshield (never have had any such problems with wipers) and the spoiler (our 2001 has none but we have not had problems with rear visibility). In fact, the wife likes the lower rear window BECAUSE it goes down so low... makes it easier to see a kid's bike behind when backing up!
fgaydos - saw your comments on looks... your opinion is as valid as anyone's and of course beauty is in eye of beholder. My wife and I like the looks of our Aztek GT very much! The front signals are an active safety feature since they are highly visible on top of the fenders. The rear is "chopped" to give a lightweight, sporty look and with the sloped rear glass, I dare say the look "works" - the Aztek looks more sporty than say, a traditional minivan like the Sienna. Our family got a tremendous deal on a loaded Aztek GT... leather, moonroof, one-of-a-kind integrated camping package, 6-disk CD changer, HUD, on and on... and yes we laughed - all the way to the bank!
noastar - sorry you got a lemon. Use the law. Get a refund. Then you can type voluminous posts about some other brand.
clayman100 - If you base vehicle purchase decisions on any one singular review, even Edmunds, you will likely be disappointed (not saying you are going to do that BTW). But the Edmunds reivew you quoted so liberally (as opposed to the logical and efficient method, posting its URL) is only one opinion of the vehicle. I've got some experience as an owner of some other vehicles (currently own a 99 Firebird Formula, used to have a 78 K5 Blazer 350 4BBL 4WD) so here's my opinion of the Aztek as an OWNER:
1. "6.7 inches ground clearance" - That's PLENTY for most mild snowfalls and for semi-developed dirt roads such as mountain fire trails. Those seeking a true offroader should pony up for a Hummer H2.
2. "Slippage in the rain" - blarney. Our Aztek is great in the rain. FWD and traction control are also useful in snow.
3. "Braking too feeble, ABS blah blah blah" - more blarney. The Aztek has fine brakes and pedal feel/modulation is well-tuned, as is the ABS engagement/performance.
4. "Visibility... a mixed bag" - hooey. Our power seat elevates to a MASSIVE degree if driver so desires... putting you way above typical surrounding vehicles. Rear quarter visibility - a good driver uses their MIRRORS, those big ones mentioned in the Edmunds review. BTW the HUD is IMHO an active safety feature, keeping your eyes up on the road more. Edmunds didn't mention that did they...
5. "Fun to drive this vehicle is not" - more hooey. As an LS1 Formula owner, I still testify the Aztek GT is a hoot to scoot around in. Ours is a 2WD with the tow package, so has a slightly stiffer rear suspension but no AWD deadweight. This makes it more peppy and responsive, and while it's no sports car, it's fun on corners and freeway ramps! Plus the engine is the same one found in the Grand Am GT so it's easy to add performance parts available to Grand Am owner/tuners, like the K&N drop-in air filter in ours.
6. "steering wheel loose" - My God, how hard did they tug on it? Gee, the vehicle rocks too if a gorilla hangs off the side...
7. "NVH - tires howling - blah blah" - push any vehicle too hard and you will hear NVH. Our Aztek engine sounds better IMO than a struggling, torque-challenged four cylinder found on some other SUV's. Gas pedal vibration? Haven't noticed any. Wasn't aware I was supposed to care.
That edmunds review sounds like one written by someone who had already made up their mind about the vehicle before they even got inside and turned the key. Oh well, their loss is our gain!
Sorry guys, guess I'm a fine one to be talking about "voluminous posts"....

What problems did you have with your brakes. Squeaking doesn't count, but electrical problems do. Sorry you had so many problems. It's very formal and there are many steps you have to follow perfectly. You also have the option after arbitration to go through with legal Lemon proceedings or with the federal law. Contact your Attorney General.
GM has since been very helpful and we are working to resolve this. I don't want to post everything going on until we have finalized, but GM is at present being very helpful and genuinely seem to want to resolve the sitation and make me happy. I am currently in a new non-smoking Saturn Vue which I appreciate immensely over the Neon.
My best advice to you would be contact your attorney general and BBB next time this happens with a car and follow their instructions to the letter. One slip up and you can lose. You still might have some recourse so you might want to contact them anyway.
you say the Aztek has the same eng as the Grand Am GT. is that for newer Aztek's? I looked up the eng.'s and the only one that has the 3.4l v6 4A (2001 Aztek) is the Montana. The GT has the v6 L1 series. Is that wrong or can you interchange aftermarket parts on both eng.'s?
On the GA, the LA1 series 3400 is used. On the Aztek and Montana the W series 3400 is used.
So no, it's not safe to assume that any/all performance parts for the GA-GT can be bolted right onto an Aztek... but on the other hand there are quite a few that can... such as the NGK plugs and Taylor wires on this page: http://www.partsforyourcar.com - would no doubt work fine (check with the merchant before ordering). There are a few electronic parts GA-GT owners are using such as a throttle position enhancer which also have very wide applicability and would also work on the Aztek. As for chips and reprogrammed PCM's, you'd want to check directly with the supplier. Mufflers such as Gibson, Walker, Flowmaster - bolt right on (there is a MASSIVE amount of space available where the MASSIVE stock Aztek muffler fits). Someone even managed to install a supercharger on an Aztek for the SEMA show: http://www.forbes.com/2001/11/19/1119feat_print.html - I presume it was the same unit GA-GT owners are already buying and installing on their cars (see s/c discussions at www.grandamgt.com ).
As with any performance parts, there is a chance you might void your warranty although the mod you do would have to be proven by the dealer to cause a failure for them to be able to deny a warranty repair. Also it appears the 4T65-E Aztek Transaxle can only handle 285 ft-lb of torque according to the PowerTrain web site... although that leaves significant room for mods and of course a transaxle can be enhanced too. If I get permission from the wifey (main driver of our Aztek), the next thing I would/will do will be an open cone K&N maybe with a custom enclosure to pull air in under the fake hood notches, and a Gibson or Walker muffler with a straight pipe to the rear and the stock resonator removed. I've found Flowmaster mufflers to be a little too loud for our tender ears.
One last thing - anyone looking at an Aztek from a performance angle should consider FWD instead of AWD to save weight, and the tow pkg to get the enhanced cooling and slightly stiffer rear suspension.
Find a Lemon Law lawyer and sue them as I am doing.
Speaking of which, do any of you with Versatrak Azteks have a whining noise when the car is relatively cold at exactly 65mph (A/C and radio off) ?
We have also had a fuel tank split (for NO reason... no accident or debris etc... the gas just decided to see what the outside world was like while the car was sitting outside my in-laws). And the fuel filler pipe goes on the wheel side of the rear wheel arch meaning that if the tire shreds, the fuel pipe may also do so, causing a big bang sound that would really ruin your day.
Funnily, I like the car, but it is unreliable and has some major design flaws and so Pontiac will be seeing us in court immediately I get the paperwork to my attorney.
The 2001 AWD Azteks seem to have had the majority of the flaws, but it appears that the 2002s are much better. Of the few owners I've seen with problems, most own 2001 AWDs.
Maybe mating the versatrak was a bit hairy at first, but it seems that the bugs are working out.
Here's a link for Windstar owners... seems their front springs corrode away and then puncture front tires - ouch! http://www.auto.com/industry/iwirb5_20010905.htm
Have you had a tire fail on an Aztek? If not, what basis do you have for speculating what would happen if a tire blew out? The fuel tank on Mustangs is just forward of the rear bumper - does that mean it will explode into flames in every rear-end crash?
This hooey about Azteks being unreliable etc is not founded in statistical fact but instead anecdotal opinion of a few owners. Ours is running like a top... and guess what - like with all our cars, I keep an eye on the air pressure in our (factory option puncture-resistant) tires! Proper care and maintenance is one of the cornerstones of safety.
Toyota builds the worst cars in the world!
I think you sound like a "SPAMMER" that works for, or is employed by Pontiac or GM!!!!! Just my thoughts on your comments!!!
I'm not supposed to eat it according to my Doc, but I love diced Spam fried and sprinkled on top of hash brown potatoes... gee that's making me hungry got to go now!
2. No, I have not had a tire blow out on the Aztek, but the expert that pointed out the danger to me has 25 years of experience and his comments made sense.
3. Just an FYI, the fuel tank sprang a gushing leak at the join between the fuel line and the tank while parked... fortunately the car used onstar to call the local fire department on our behalf, but it does not exactly inspire confidence in OUR car's build quality. Pontiac have refused to repurchase OUR car because Pontiac claims that it is not a lemon. The obvious implication is that it is perfectly reasonable for the car to be in for warranty work at least once a month and for the fuel tank to split without cause. THAT would worry me if I were considering buying a Pontiac vehicle.
4. We are taking them to court and have retained a very good lemon law lawyer who is acting on a contingency basis because she is confident that we will win. Of course, we may not, but we will keep you informed either way.
5. I am MUCH happier in my 99 Miata with the top down and the wind in my hair. But my wife likes bigger cars (I realize that this includes pretty well ALL cars).
I wish you luck in your lawsuit; you certainly have a bone to pick with Pontiac. Although, when you say they claim it isn't a lemon, they may be right.
It may be a lemon by your definition, but according to most states, your car isn't as lemon until the dealer has three chances to repair the same problem.
Regardless, I wish you luck.
I have no way of knowing if all Azteks are reliable, I just know ours is!
There's no shortage of experts with opinions on safety. They can even be hired to testify for you. Ask your friend the expert if Mustangs are also dangerous.
BTW speaking of safety. The Aztek scored the highest (ie most stable) rating of ANY SUV ever evaluated recently for rollover stability. I would think rollover stability would play some kind of role in reducing fuel leaks (it's a GRAVITY thing).
Speaking of Mazdas... good luck with yours. My sister's 323 developed a mysterious clunking sound in the right rear suspension and suffered early transmission failure to boot... plus it was so underpowered she had to turn off the A/C to merge onto freeways. Oh, what a feeling! (or is that Toyota's jingle?)
We are approaching the end of the warranty period and so do not want to keep the car knowing that there will probably be more problems in the future.
I wrote to this site on the advice of my attorney to find out whether the problems we have are unique. Basically, if they are not unique, there are design flaws which require that the NTSB be informed while, if they are unique, then we obviously DO have a lemon. It doesn't matter to me which is the case so long as we get rid of our bucket of bolts and Pontiac is encouraged to take customer complaints more seriously in future.
So, after 11 warranty visits during the first 24,000 miles in the space of 9 months, including 8 unsuccessful attempts to fix a single problem, we feel confident that the car does qualify as a Lemon under California Law.
(A note; the car was a dealer demo which we bought as a "new" car with 7,000 miles on it. The dealer claimed that the original warranty started at the point we bought it, but Pontiac claim that it doesn't. Similarly, we will be asking the court to judge whether the Lemon Law presumption applies to the first 18,000 miles on the car or the first 18,000 miles driven by the owner. While the car is a lemon anyway, this determines whether we have to prove that or whether Pontiac has to prove that it is not. The BBB Autoline would not even consider this which is one more example of their bias in favour of the car manufacturers).
Pontiac dosen't "claim", they state in the warranty booklet that the warranty starts when first delivered or put in use. Did you not received the booklet when you purchased the car?
Your Aztek uses a simular fuel tank system to my brothers' Montanas. Your posts have been a little confusing about the location of the leak. "Fuel tank Split" and "join between the fuel line and the tank" have been your descriptions. Are we to assume that the outlet on the fuel tank where the fuel fill line attaches cracked where it meets the tank?
Also will you post what your expert believes the cause of the whine is?
1. I do not know the whole situation so forgive me if I am off-base on some comments. I don't doubt your claims about number of problems and visits. But I also read in my Pontiac Warranty Pamphlet which came with the car, and it precludes coverage for abuse for example. How do you know your Aztek's driveline wasn't abused while a demo for that ~7k miles? That's a lot of miles in the hands of someone who might not care much about the vehicle's longevity. Maybe they abused other components too. In short I probably would not have inked that deal. Plus any dealer which is unclear on the duration of the factory warranty should be avoided, both before and after the sale. Not all dealers are the same quality of service.
2. The Cali lemon law brochure at http://www.dca.ca.gov/acp/pdf_files/lemonaid2002.pdf clearly states "the problems must occur within 18 months of delivery, or within 18000 miles on the odometer, whichever occurs first." How much more clear can it be?
3. The brochure also says "the problem must substantially reduce the use, value, or safety of the vehicle to you". I don't know how loud this whine is, but the 99 Formula I had was always making a rear axle song for all 39k miles I owned it. Dealers even added a special additive to the diff when I got the diff fluid changed, for limited slip diff's, to reduce noise amongs other things. Still made the sound... but I really did not care once I knew it was harmless.
4. I do not follow the logic that if others have the same problem as you (IE, "problems are not unique") then it is automatically a design flaw requiring info transmittal to the NTSB. What if a lot of vehicles suffer the same MANUFACTURING, SHIPPING or DEALER PREP flaw?
5. On your fuel tank problem. Is there any evidence underneath of a heavy blow to the chassis? Perhaps the vehicle was involved in an offroad mishap while still a demo unit. I can picture some salesman's teenage son taking his friends "off-roading" to do some "rock climbing" - with a vehicle heavily laden with passengers, wheels spinning wildly, scraping and banging along a rocky river bed and damaging both the driveline and the fuel system. Hope this didn't happen to yours... because if so your hopes of a warranty or lemon claim will be quite dead.

"The Cali lemon law brochure at http://www.dca.ca.gov/acp/pdf_files/lemonaid2002.pdf clearly states "the problems must occur within 18 months of delivery, or within 18000 miles on the odometer, whichever occurs first.""
- On the Purchase contract, it is clearly marked as a "New" vehicle. Therefore, I would argue that the Warranty and the 18,000 miles presumption both start from delivery to me, the customer. As far as the factory warranty is concerned, that is what the dealer told my wife and me. Since no cars get to the customer with 0 miles on the odometer, it seems reasonable that it be counted from delivery to the customer, not from some arbitrary zero that never exists.
We did buy a 7 year/100,000 mile warranty as well, but I don't want to start arguing with the warranty company (not GM) about who is responsible for pre-existing conditions when the car passes the 36,000 mile mark.
My concern with the whining noise was originally that NO-ONE knew what the cause was and Pontiac argued that, since we didn't KNOW it was dangerous, it obviously wasn't a problem. I would prefer not to reveal the experts opinion until we get to court, but it is almost certainly at least going to require repairs sooner than if there wasn't the whine and it could be extremely dangerous since the source of the noise is right by the (plastic) gas tank.
The fuel line joins the fuel tank at the bottom of the tank and the join is apparently (according to the Pontiac service department that fixed it) where the leak occurred. This was 20,000 miles into our use of the vehicle and we never take it off road so the chance of damage causing it is minimal.
If the problem happens to more than one vehicle, it indicates a fundamental problem, whether a design flaw or a dealer education issue... either way the NTSB has the clout to ensure that Pontiac resolve it.
As for selling it on, we owe money on it (including the extended warranty, all at 0%) and traded in my wife's old car for it. We would need to sell it for enough to replace it, which I doubt that we could do. Plus, that simply shifts the problem into someone elses lap which is unethical in my opinion. Besides, we will beat Pontiac in court, which will resolve the issue anyway.
As for the dealer we bought it from, they lost their Pontiac dealership a few weeks later, but by then it was too late for us. Our lawyer may be including them in the lawsuit for misleading us about the warranty, so they will hopefully not get off scot free.
As for the BBB Autoline arbitration, it is NOT required in California and the only use that can be made of it if the customer decides to go to court anyway is that the decision can be received into evidence. It is NOT allowed for the arbitration process to be examined or the grounds for the decision or any questions about the procedure. Therefore, the customer cannot argue that the process was unfair or otherwise flawed, but Pontiac can claim that the arbitration found in their favor. According to my attorney, this can put the customer in a weaker position than if they had gone straight to court. The Court does not give the customer any benefit for trying to reach an amicable, cheap settlement that avoids wasting court time. This is why I would strongly recommend that anyone who has a lemon speak to an attorney before considering arbtration.
Any more questions ?
By the way, it is Mr Siggy. While we do live in California, girl on girl action is still not licensed for the holy state of Matrimony and my wife will be most upset if I start stealing her panties. ;-)
Any input will be appreciated.
just put 5,000 more miles on my 2001 AWD bright red aztek in 11 days, traveling from pasadena california to duluth minnesota and back, on tour.
i am up to 44,000 miles and just got my tek in may 2001.... eeeekkkkk. i might need a
re-extended warranty, since mine only goes to 100,000 miles and i am reaching that quickly.
problems that i have had have been:
the rear hatch not releasing, esp in cold weather,
had it fixed 3 times, and finally it worked in sub zero weather.
windshield wipers got stuck together during a rain storm, but this was due to the knuckleheads who re installed them when i had a windshield replaced. this was done by the same outfit who replaced the drivers side headlamp and forgot to bolt it down, which led to the entire light and everything that was attached to it flying off the car in the middle of the night in the mojave desert. didnt know what it was til we got out to see what we "hit" and discovered that the lamp was gone.
the above was all due to stupidity on the part of the auto body shop that my comprehensive insurance sent me to.... which i will never go to again... (also had a loaner car which i INSISTED on them paying for, for almost a MONTH, while the new windshield came in....)
i also paid only the original $100 deductable for the work, and told them that they were incompetant... the manager basically agreed with me and couldnt explain the stupidity...
this car is amazing. during our travels, the 2 of us, "thelma and louise" traveled across the country with a p.a. system, 5 guitars, a ton of clothes (we're girls), pillows, sleeping bags, food, 400 cds, etc, and still had nothing blocking the back window. in my old blazer, i would have had to leave something (or someone) home. i also was able to get alot more room by leaving the 2 back seats at home in our storage shed.
saw relatively no azteks through california, nevada, utah, and wyoming. saw 1 in nebraska with michigan plates, and then a few more in iowa and minnesota. funny, but we all wave to each other when we see each other on the road. like,
no one is a stalker or kidnapper or mean person. everyone is friendly and would probably help another aztek owner in need by the side of the road.....
i dig that.
i dig this car...
i DID grow up with GM cars and always wanted an old opal GT - the sporty vette like ones that got about 50 miles to a gallon, but by the time i could even drive, they were almost antiques....
could only have one of those as a second car now, with all of the gear i carry....
ok, so am i now with the long-winded aztek posters?
