and "by the way" as for my "caps" key, i looked over my keyboard and the only one i see that says "caps" says "caps lock". typing in all caps is considered "shouting" (and impolite) according to most users of the internet. as for my "shift" key, which i can only *assume* is what you were referencing (for fear of being accused of "making stuff up as i go") it's there, and it works fine, i just prefer not to use it.
anything else i can help you with?

The Tundra looks like the Tacoma? Yes, it is family resemblance - the same way the Ranger is styled similarly to the F150.
T100 and Tundra are both compact/mid sized....

That person/place/thing called justtheone is called a liar for many reasons. Myself I could justify that, by the post that showed a 47 or 49 truck along with a 52, claiming that they are the same truck that has been used on the same farm. This issue has been ignored by justtheone for an obvious reason. I do not even read the posts by this person/...... anymore.
As for trucks on the farm my
observations are as follows:
Uncle's trucks 3 Fords over last 25 years
Great uncle's trucks 2 Fords last 30 years
Great grandpa's truck a lot of Fords forever
Friends & neighbors all had Fords.
Only one I can remember had a Chevy.
By the way I grew up (partially) in Southern Illinois. Where are you from jcmdie?
By the way toyota wanted to use "T150" as the name for the tundra, ford lawyers interviened.
But please, bama inform us otherwise.
The reason that I jumped on this liar thing is that simply justtheone does not post things to be taken seriously. He could be called justforfun. It's only entertainment. When viewed from that light I considered calling him/her a liar very harsh.
I don't think the ranger looks like the F150 either. rangers are much more angular than the F150. the new 2001 rangers maybe....
I drove through indiana and ohio. Mainly all the farms i seen had chevys and fords
Ryan
jcmdie,
What part of Northern Illinois? I'm origionally (sp?) from Southern Wisconsin (Janesville). But, we always referred to you Illinois people as FISH - hehehe - just a joke...
JCM do you go to the chicago autoshow?
Ryan
The T-100 was never accepted because it failed the market niche, but this does not mean it was a bad truck. It was more expensive, because the truck had to pay a 25% tariff to be imported. All T-100's were made in Tokyo. The lack of a V8 caused problems, too. The reason Toyota stopped making the truck was simple, not enough ROI. The T-100 had better sales when the extended cab versions came out but it wasn't enough. Also if you look real close the T-100 was just a hair smaller than the trucks of the day. Remember this truck came out in 1993.
jcmdie
Just because a truck has 300 hp versus 150 hp does not mean that the 150 hp will last longer. Usually people with "underpowered engines" will rev them more to get the most power extracted from them. Other uses like brakes and suspension is all relative to how hard the driver is on their truck no matter what the horsepower is. Ever been on the New Jersey Turnpike? If a vehicle had more hp than it needed, it would be easier on the other components because of less stress. Go back to the Pontiac Firebird example. Which one stresses more the V6 or the V8?
To all
Lets now learn evolution
1993 T-100 was introduced
1995.5 Tacoma was introduced
1997 F-150 was introduced with new styling
2000 Tundra was introduced
Go read those articles back in 1997 when the F-150 came out and look what the writers said about how they copied the T100/Tacoma. Just because Ford produces a zillion trucks a year does not make it winner in styling status by default.
Good luck on this one now!
Good luck on this one now!
Just ask Donny on this one bama! Good luck on this one now!
Swoobig I grew up in Chicago and now live in the NW suburbs. We also have references for the cheeseheads, but I'll keep it clean. Funny, they never call us that until after we've spent our money there.
Tundradude I disagree with you. Its true that if one were to push it the engine would be the weak link. First, the people that buy underpowered vehicles are generally ultraconservative drivers and are not going to push anything. Second, If the engine is the weak link, it doesn't strain the trans, rearend, axles, and brakes. The engine can only produce so much power and is therefore self governing (wear, breakage etc...). It can't produce more power than it can handle. I have had brakes, transmissions and u joints go out that can be attributed to abuse, never an engine.
Ill probably be going during the wk. Probably a tues or thursday early afternoon since those days are open for me i have night classes those days.
I hope its better than last yr. 2 yrs ago was my first yr going nad it was great but last yr sucked.
Ryan
Why defend the T-100? It was overpriced who cares why. It was more than a "hair" smaller! It was under powered even with the wimpy V-6 and I think it was even offered with a 4-cylinder engine! 4 wheel ABS was an expensive option even if you could find one at a time it was standard on a cavalier! Give this one up.
The Pontiac Firebird comparison of the V-6 or V-8 is without merit. This car does not stress either engine!!!!! Both those engines 3.8 V-6 and 5.7 V-8 are excellent engines that should last a long time. HP is not even in the equation when stress is concerned. Torque is the killer. Take the GM 4L60-E automatic transmission. You can view its specs at the GM Powertrain site, http://www.gmpowertrain.com/transmissions/4l60_main.htm
Notice torque is the only factor mentioned. Also notice this transmission is used in the Firebird and Silverado! There are a lot of false claims in these posts. People should back up their words with proof.
On another note my 2000 Silverado had to be towed to the dealership a few days ago. The truck has 2900 miles and was spraying gas at the fuel filter to fuel line connection. This could have been a disaster. A retaining clip either broke or fell out. For the record, this is the second time I had a GM truck towed to the dealer by roadside assistance. I never had a Toyota towed or even had one fail to start. I would still buy the Silverado over the Tundra because of its lower price even if I have a few problems. If I have a lot of problems (like I did with my 99 Blazer) I will go back to Toyota and pay the price.
Sadly I predict that Toyota will be the number car manufacture in the world because of their high quality if they can keep their prices in line. They already have the number one selling car in the US and working on the trucks. GM is too concerned with satisfying the accountants and not letting engineers do their work. It will come back to haunt them in the long run.
Get the LS (like I'm thinking about) and the only options I want to add are power windows/locks and keyless entry.
Besides everyone knows trucks make huge profits, the bean counters have to be happy about that.
Actually, Ford will likley surpass GM as the number 1 auto manufacturer in about 5 years.
The world is not limited to the US. Look at the total sales figures (world wide) and you will see that Toyota is a major player AND makes more money than any one else. At the end of the day it will be profits and not sales that count.
It is hard to imply on "tone" on a post. Don't get the impression I think the Silverado (4x4 long bed, V-6, auto) is a bad truck based one defect. I actually like it. It rides great. Does not rattle. Handels amazingly. Brakes great. Gets decient gas milage with more power than would be expected from a 200 hp V-6. At a light I was suprisigly passed by a Toyota pickup this morning....only to see the Chevy logo in the toys back window!!!!
Everyone remember the accountants run the world. Damn accountants

"I aint seen too many of them chevies or dodges
workin either...You never see any contractors or state vehicles using them either. All I see is the Fords, hmmm wonder why that is."
well, i just noticed something driving around post today. several of the previous model chevy trucks are being used as government vehicles (primarily as maintenance vehicles - plumbers, carpenters, etc) and today i saw a NEW model 'rado being used as a government vehicle. (i work on an army post for those of you who didn't know). granted, you do see dodges and fords too...but no toyotas. that's for sure. oh, and yes...it was being used in a "work" capacity. it was a base 1500 being used in a maintenance capacity (winch, cap, tool box, welder w/tanks in the bed, etc...). fwiw...
bco
i can figure out the 'f' and the 'i', but for the 'b', i wonder if that refers to the common name for a female dog, or a male child born without a father... hmmm...
bco
The Pontiac Firebird was just an arbitrary example. My friend has one with the 3.4 six and it done strange things in the auto transmission department. He has considered trading it for sometime.
I do agree with your torque vs hp assessment.
Informal question for all:
Is ABS worth getting in your opinion or it just a death trap waiting to happen?
I personally do not like ABS and do not want it, but I would like to hear your opinions.
One person told me once in the early 90's that ABS was always better than airbags. Because you never have to use an airbag if the ABS works. However, what if the ABS doesn't?
Ok whod you sell it to the lil blind kidd from dumb and dumber?
On the abs subject. I must say it saved me and my truck this past summer when this guy cut me off. That is reason enough for me to like them
Ryan
ABS may work great now, and I am sure there are situations where it saves lives. You just have to re-train yourself as to how to brake properly with this system. I think it is rather difficult to buy a vehicle today that doesn't have ABS. Good luck!
I changed trucks because the Tundra has the extra towing capacity that my T-100 did not have. Its a difference of 1250 pounds, but this was significant to warrant the change.
And to rubletoo, the T-100 still has the shine.
Current mileage:
Tundra 25,000
T-100 99,000
How much damage was done by the guy who ran the light?
Ryan
When my truck got hit, I had to get something to haul my wood. The other guy was nice enough to rent me a F150 for about a month.
"Is ABS worth getting in your opinion or it just a
death trap waiting to happen?"
on my '00 silverado, the abs is great. davids1 mentioned earlier that you have to "train yourself" how to brake with abs. i agree to a point. the first time i drove in snow with abs, i learned that the proper way to stop was not to "pump" the brakes as you're taught with non-abs. you just step on it and hold...the abs system does the "pumping" for you. i agree with the "re-train" comment when it comes to sudden stops on broken or rough pavement. for example, if you're running over broken pavement and, at any given instant there is very little weight on your rear wheels, and at that same instant, you decide to hit the brakes, you get the very disconcerting feeling that the brakes aren't engaging. why? because the first tendency for the rear wheels is to lock up (no weight on them). so the abs cycles until it can slow the wheels without locking them. while it only lasts a split second, it's VERY scary if you NEED to stop NOW. once you get used to that happening - and expect it...you're fine. now that i am, i don't think i'll own another vehicle without them. and that, as they say, is my two cents...
bco
Kinda scary (chucky style) if you ask me.
Whats their new slogan? From the ground up???
Whats with that?
