"...it appears the press got conflicting numbers..."
I hate it when I let my obsessive nature drag other people into my nuttiness. I'm sorry I've got you running around looking up weights now too.
So you can sleep tonight I have a few figures for your Lancer from Edmunds. GTS auto--3109 GTS manual--3032 DE auto 2999 DE manual--2922
It seems that there are differences in weight depending on trim and optional equipment. Seems Edmunds was using the GTS and Road and Track was talking about the DE.
I couldn't find a similar reason for my Eclipse numbers. Maybe the published figures are for a loaded up model with a sunroof and other gizmos mine doesn't have. I guess I'll just call Mitsu up and bug them. Then again, maybe I won't. I like the idea of my car weighing 150 pounds less. That'll make it FEEL faster.

Good link about Mitsu's past and previous models. They kind of glossed over the fact that the Mitsubishi Zero's were used to bomb Pearl Harbor and for Kamikaze missions. :shades:

Just read the Edmunds article about Mitsu's new electric car. 0-60 in under 9 seconds. That's pretty fast for an electric car. Sounds like it might make a good urban commuter car. Especially if there are recharge plugs at work.
I'm thinking most people drive less than 25 miles to work, maybe drive out a short distance to lunch at noon and then drive less than 25 miles back home. Add in a few extra miles on the way home for shopping and you probably don't do more than 60 miles a day. With a practical range of 80 miles the i MIEV just might work.
Of course it might be a real winner if the US gov't gave a 50% tax credit like the Japanese.

I just finished that same review. I knew that Mitsu had been testing the Miev in real world conditions in Japan for the last 6 months or so and I personally believe that this car - and other "serious" electric cars in the same mold - will help not only their owners, but ALL automobile owners, save mucho dinero in about 2 -3 years. The price of oil is not really based totally on supply and demand anyway, but also by speculation on its prompt availability to consumer need. If by 2012 - 2013 or thereabouts there are maybe a few million electric cars in use worldwide that could still pose a serious threat to countries that rely solely on oil revenues. Just the mere fact that this new technology is viable might cause these countries to drop prices (or boost production) to try and slow the demand for cars like the Miev.
More supply + less demand =lower prices. Correct?
Personally I don't think that once the electric car is a proven product it will ever go away. It is simply to efficient and practical, especially in an urban environment, for people to completely return to all-fuel vehicles. I think most people will have one or two of each. I plan on getting a Miev ASAP when they become available in the U.S. I don't figure on using it to travel on vacations or haul pigs to market but it will be the get-grocery-pick-up-kids-see-movie-do-whatever vehicle. If the electric vehicle battery technology can improve even half as quickly as something like computer chip technology has done then the inner city is going to be seriously quiet in about ten years.
A decently priced, reliable all-electric vehicle combined with mass production capability and an existing dealership structure...
I've never been a big fan of all-electric vehicles for a number of reasons but you bring up an interesting point. Lessening demand on oil by using more electric cars whose power can be generated by non-oil sources. That's something to think about.
Where I live there are two companies working on what may be the replacement technology for the internal combustion engine; fuel cells. One company has fuel cell back-up electric generators (big) and the other is developing fuel cell batteries for computers and phones (small). The next step is to develop hydrogen fuel cell engines for cars. Honda has already started a program for this.
It would be nice to have cars you could run basicly on water and give the finger to the oil cartels.

Mitsubishi Motors Released a position paper today - Feb. 29 - titled STEP UP 2010. It basically listed the current and near future priorities of the company.
As far as North America in general, Mitsubishi stated that the current economic slowdown would probably cause new car sales to slump and so during this time MMNA would mainly try to focus on improving customer satisfaction and increasing dealership profitability.
They also mentioned that upcoming models ( here and worldwide ) would feature their new automated manual twin clutch SST, newer more powerful clean diesel engines and also improved AWD capabilities.
Amidst all the other factoids was a brief message concerning the Lancer Sportback which I posted in that thread.
I was re-reading some old posts here and stumbled on a reference to the Mitsu 6G7 engine which I have in my Eclipse. As I read the Wikipedia link I discovered that the 3.8L engine I have in my Eclipse is the same basic motor that I have in my Chrysler Cirrus. I was surprised that using the same engine they could come up with a 2.5L in that application. Further reading showed that they made engines as small a 2.0L as well.
I had no idea that they could make such a wide variety of displacements out of the same basic motor. Live and learn.
BTW, the 2.5L in my Chrysler now has 101K on it and still purrs like a kitten. I hope the 3.8L works as well. Both are extremely smooth running engines.
Is the 2.0L in the Lancer the same motor? I would assume not because that is a 4cyl.
2019 Kia Soul+, 2015 Mustang GT, 2013 Ford F-150, 2000 Chrysler Sebring convertible
That's wild. I had no idea that a block could be re configured like that.
Now has the wife driven that 3.8L yet or is she still afraid of it?
Speaking of sharing, I found the interesting article about Mitsu and Nissan. Click here or read below
March 3, 2008 Nissan and Mitsubishi to expand supply agreement
Tokyo, Japan - Nissan Motor Company and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation have announced an agreement to expand their original equipment manufacturing (OEM) supply involving mini-cars for Japanese and overseas markets. The two companies currently have OEM agreements in Japan, where Mitsubishi supplies Nissan with mini-cars and small light commercial vehicles, while Nissan supplies light commercial vehicles to Mitsubishi.
Under the expanded agreement, Mitsubishi will supply its Pajero mini SUV to Nissan, starting in the fall of 2008, for the Japanese market, and the two companies will explore opportunities for expanded light commercial vehicle supply for Japanese and overseas markets. www.canadiandriver.com
March 3, 2008 -- Cypress, Calif. -- Mitsubishi Motors today announced total February 2008 sales of 9,105.
Galant was the volume leader at 2,424, up 16.4% from last February's volume and up 22.2% calendar year-to-date. Eclipse closed at 2,079 up 6.8% from last February's volume. This was Eclipse's best February in six years. Lancer closed at 1,647 up 48.4% for February and up 14.1% calendar year-to-date. Eclipse Spyder sales were 890, up 29.0% for the month and 58.2% calendar year-to-date. Overall Mitsubishi sales were off 6.4% for February compared to February 2007 sales of 9,726.
Not yet. The weather here has been so bad that I haven't driven it much either. I still have less than 500 miles on it. Every time we get an inch of snow (every other day) they put down two inches of salt. We finally got some rain today and it's supposed to be sunny tomorrow so I'll take it to work. Yippeee!

Once they found out what the old farmer was driving....everybody had to have one.
BTW, I was driving past my Mitsu dealer today and they had what looked to be a Lancer Raliart on display out front. The color was either Rally Red or Rave Red (was going too fast to tell for sure) with a blacked out grill and a lot of nice looking ground effects. Very impressive looking. I guess I'm glad they didn't have one when I was buying. I might be driving something different.
Iluv had better stay away from the dealers, I don't think he could resist this sweet machine.

Any clues as to when the EVO MR will be out? I've been thinking I might just pony up for one even tho it will dent my budget. I've heard the GSR is out at a few dealerships but not here and the dealer says maybe a month, but they have said that every month. Also will the EVO have roadside assistance? The dealer seems to not be very well informed and they have lost a lot of sales staff due to the poor economy. Thanks
yeah, but as I look at what I already have with my Lancer GTS I feel pretty good overall about things. We're going in a week from Monday to get it's 2nd 'Auto Butler' application put on the paint. Not a bad deal, they even send you a card to remind you. We get the entire car washed/vacummed/protectant-coated in about a 2-hour appointment. And a van ride to the movie theater/mall. Decent deal and the car looks sweet when they're all done.
Oldfarmer - you trend setter. Got the entire country re-excited about the Eclipse Well, spring will be here soon and maybe you and your wife will enjoy some of those sunny days in the Eclipse (sort of a pun, I guess)
Me and Iluvmy better stay away. The Lancer Ralliart is enticing, that forthcoming Lancer Sportback Ralliart just might get me in trouble. How's the tire situation, Iluvmy? I just replaced the tires on all three of our vehicles this week. I'll be eating in for the next few months.
Hey tiff. Try giving Mitus a call at 888-MITSU2008.
According to the Mitsu website (which is now updated and contains the 08 EVO) Roadside Assistance is standard. Only the GSR trim is listed on the website at this time.
Also, here's the link to the pdf of the EVO brochure. 08 EVO brochure

Thanks, I tried doing a Build on their website last night but it wouldn't allow it. I did download the brochure. Funny thing is Mitsu seems to be having a lot of trouble with their new automatic. Funny how they have had so many delays for such a highly anticipated cars. Subaru STi's are already in showrooms now. Such a shame it has such serious understeer problems.
No definite date for the redesign, but the Concept-RA (see here: http://paxtech.blogspot.com/2008/01/mitsubishi-concept-ra-us.html) is a strong hint of what's to become the new Eclipse. Concept-RA has a new diesel engine, which may eventually carry-on to the final production model of the Eclipse. The Concept-RA was designed and produced in Mitsubishi's California R&D lab, so everything hints on an all American vehicle for domestic and global export. Somewhere along the line we may see a prototype version before the actual production model.
as to my '08 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS and it's tire situation, we are doing just fine with the local shop's fix of my LF tire(formerly the left rear tire, before the tire rotation). I no longer am losing any air and, just as important, I don't have the "pulling to the left" problem some '08 Mitsubishi Lancer owners are complaining about.
For an explanation of the "pulling to the left" issue just go to '2008 Mitsubishi Lancer' here on Edmunds. During the time we were discussing this issue a poster left a link to another site, in which '08 Lancer owners blogged endlessly about how they were gonna stick it to Mitsubishi etc, etc and blah-blah-blah. It is true, a brand new Lancer shouldn't pull to the left, especially with no fix given so far from the Big M that will absolutely fix the problem. I know there is a fix that can be found, has to be, right?
I guess tire rotations, re-mounting and balancings, wheel alignments, and even complete new sets of tires were not doing the trick for these '08 Lancer drivers and owners. So I'm happy about my car, fully and completely.
On Monday the 17th I'm heading to the dealership we bought from in Avondale, AZ, which is about 9 miles west of Phoenix. Yep, Avondale Mitsubishi...it'll be cool to go back to where it all began.
Oh, the reason why is it's time for another 'Auto Butler' paint protectant double-coating. It looks so cool after this 'Auto Butler' treatment, men. First, they wash the outside and vacuum the interior. They get rid of all of the smashed-in bug guts on the front because they can't have them there to put the protectant coating on. So, last time this was done, my wife, son and I took one of their shuttle vans to the movie theater nearby and saw '3:15 to Yuma.' When we got back and I saw my car my eyes bugged out a tad!
So this time we're gonna take a friend from Willcox and either go see a movie or "shop till we drop" was the description given of what we could go do. I'll let ya all know how she turns out late Mon. the 17th or Tuesday the 18th. To me, this is the kind of car that you get excited about cleaning up real well.
mikevegas06, what Mitsubishi do you have again, the Outlander SUV?
"...this is the kind of car that you get excited about..."
I was traveling a circuit today and I kept passing the same dark grey Lancer in a parking lot. Damn, that is one fine looking front end on that car! Even though I passed it half a dozen times, my eye was always drawn to it.
I also want to take back my former negative comments about Mitsu's "Go Time" car ads. They are actually quite nice. Defiantly geared toward the younger set but fun to watch. The Lancer ads really caught my eye. This was where there is a close-up of a guy racing his Lancer and they say something like " Three cars one spirit" or something like that.
2019 Kia Soul+, 2015 Mustang GT, 2013 Ford F-150, 2000 Chrysler Sebring convertible
I bet the Lancer looked fantastic after the dealer clean up. Didn't know that the Lancer's were experiencing lane drift problems. I remember that Nissan and Acura had severe tire wear problems on certain models some years ago. Not quite the same as lane drift, but the solution was revising the camber and toe in/toe out (if memory serves me correctly). At any rate it was a fix that the dealer had to perform after their company engineers figured out the solution.
We've got three Mitsu's in the house. My wife drives an 04 Montero Limited, my daily car is an 03 Outlander XLS AWD, my every once in awhile car is a 92 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo AWD (i.e. Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX)
Oldfarmer, I like those new commercials too. We'll get to see even more of them since Arena football season starts soon.
I like those Montero's, the big one and the Sport. I've looked at used ones, but they seem to hold their value OK and I don't need another SUV with the high gas prices and all.
Theres a mini-series called "Long Way Round" that was released as a DVD. Ewan Macgregor and another guy ride BMW motorcyles around the world with Mitsu Montero's as chase vehicles. They comment on camera how they can't believe what these stock grocery getters can do off road.
2012 Mustang Premium, 2013 Lincoln MKX Elite, 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander.
The car I saw in front of my dealership the other day turns out to be an EVO X not a Lancer Raliart. I know this for sure because they put "EVO X" in 2 foot letters on the side for guys like me who can't tell the difference. Still looks very hot.
Actually I'm glad it's not a Raliart. At about 27K the Raliart might be in my price range if I sold everything I own. The 33K for the EVO would cost me a kidney.

"Actually I'm glad it's not a Raliart. At about 27K the Raliart might be in my price range if I sold everything I own. The 33K for the EVO would cost me a kidney"
Oh, you're speaking for me too. And, that Prototype S (Ralliart wagon) will definitely get me in trouble if I steer any where a Mitsu dealership when it arrives. It would make a mighty fine replacement for my old outlander.
I'm starting to see more Outlanders around here lately. They look pretty nice to me (and I'm not a SUV fan). Some of these crossovers seem awfully tiny but the Outlander seems to have some room in it.
Where I am I see quite a few Endeavors and even some Montaros.
BTW, why did Mitsu stop making the Diamonte? That car looks good inside and out.
2019 Kia Soul+, 2015 Mustang GT, 2013 Ford F-150, 2000 Chrysler Sebring convertible
Yeah. I really liked the Diamante as well. We just needed more cargo space at the time so we went with the SUV. Mitsu just couldn't move enough of them to justify it's existence. I think 2004 was the last model year for it. It was actually made in their Australian facility which was just recently closed.
I've had a change of opinion about the re-styled Galant. I saw more pics of it at Mitsu's website and I really really like it.
Lastly, looks like Mitsu is gonna try and take advantage of the weak dollar by ramping up production at the Normal, IL facility and increasing US exports to China. Here's the article link as well as an excerpt click here
"Mitsubishi Motor plans to export U.S.-made cars to China and the Middle East, and expand its exports to Russia, while Nissan plans to expand exports to the Middle East.

Mitsubishi Lancer and EVO X. Evidently in the UK they have been praised for their sound design and great looks already, but, it's cool to see that the appraisers there are putting the new compact's resale values at all-time highs. Mitsubishi's hard work is paying off, gentlemen! Take a look-see.
"...This really shows you how biased Consumer Reports is against Mitsu..."
WHAT?! CR is biased against Mitsu? NO WAY! Just because they called the Eclipse "The most disappointing new car of 2006" and said it was the least fun to drive? Just because they said the Galant was an OK car competing with better ones? Just because they made snide remarks about Lancer and Outlander and Endeavor and...
For CR there is Honda and Toyota and nothing else.

magazine. They make good...ummm...hamster fodder. I have never seen a more biased, inconsequential piece of garbage magazine than Consumer Reports. I already went through all of their crap with my last two new cars, a '99 Kia Sephia and a 2001 Kia Sportage 4X4. They were truly very good vehicles and the cost-to-own them was very reasonable. And guess how Clodsumer Retorts treated Kia? Right. I find their peddlings to be mere drivel, though.
You're right, if it ain't Hon-Duh or Thai-ot-a with Clodsumer Retorts it ain't worth a toot. Their product is baseless and lame. Very, very lame.
OTOH-Mitsubishi is a bright star on the rise, gentlemen.
April 1, 2008 -- Cypress, Calif. -- Mitsubishi Motors today announced total March 2008 sales of 10,750.
Galant was the volume leader at 2,676, up 26.6% from last March's volume. This was Galant's best first quarter in three years. Lancer closed at 2,514, up 32.7% from last March's volume. This was also Lancer's best first quarter in three years. Overall Mitsubishi sales were off 14.2% for March compared to March 2007 sales of 12,536.
I work for an auto parts supplier and Mitsubishi's Ililnois plant is one of our steady growing customers. Even though my Outlander is built in Japan I'm also glad to support Mitsu's U.S. presence.

toomanyfumes, I really like the look of the new Galant as well. This first pics released didn't do it much justice. But when Mitsu put it on their website so that you could see it at different angles and in different colors, I really warmed up to it.
"...how many times has the misses driven the Eclipse?..."
Still can't get her behind the wheel. :confuse: She likes to be driven around in it though. On Easter we went to the relatives and she was like a carnival barker telling everyone to go out and look at it, so I guess she's proud of it. But drive it herself, nope. I'm thinking that because it is such a fast car she is afraid of it (I never owned a car that made other cars shrink in the rear view mirror like this one).
Maybe this weekend I'll take her out to an empty parking lot and let her get used to it.
On a positive note both my sons have driven it and have left with ear to ear grins.

Do any of you folks know anything about this new engine? The only thing I come up with on-line is a 3.2L diesel used in the Asian market. :confuse:

A few days ago, Mitsubishi Motors released a mid-term business plan entitled “Step up 2010″, which gave an outline of the carmaker’s intended direction from 2008 to 2010. The plan includes details on several new models that Mitsubishi is interested in developing, with a focus on creating ‘global cars’ rather than region-specific cars. One of the highlights is a new all-electric model, with which Mitsubishi hopes to be the first of the major carmakers to release.
In a section entitled “Product Strategy”, Mitsubishi outlined its desire to build cars that are more financially and environmentally responsible. This includes an increased focus on mini-cars and small cars, as well as more efficient mid-sized cars and SUV’s. Officials are also focusing on bringing out cleaner diesel engines and increasing the use of the Twin Clutch SST transmission to maximize efficiency. As a culmination of their environmental focus, Mitsubishi will also release a next-generation electric vehicle dubbed i-MiEV, (ie. Mitsubishi Electric Vehicle) before their competitors are able to release a similar product. There are also plans to increase the number of mid-size platforms, as well as build an SUV based on a one-ton pickup truck and build a small, “lower-impact” SUV....
I know what you've all heard, that the Eclipse is a girlie car. Well, I'm here to tell you it's not.
This past weekend, spurred on by all you posters I insisted that my wife drive the car for the first time. Within two miles she was racing around turns and doing 50 in 30 zones. In short she was having a ball.
Afterwards, I asked her what she thought of it. She said: "You know, I like those big comfortable cars that ride smooth. The Eclipse is more of a guy's car with the great handling and all that power."
So there you have it. My wife says it's a guys car and I never argue with her.

of course it is. I always got a little headachey feeling when I heard people say the Mitsubishi Eclipse was a "girly" car. Please!
Yeah, the new little i-MIEV is the talk of the green vehicles right now. I am hoping they improve the range of the car to something more like 200 miles. In 5 more years our '08 Lancer GTS will be just around 120,000 miles(which won't require trading in for that reason, no) and if the i-MIEV is available with improved range between charge-ups I would be more than just slightly interested in the car.
Is the 2009 Eclipse in showrooms yet? I see they have a TMV price on Edmunds already. I was just at the dealer getting my oil changed today and didn't see any. Forgot to ask the tech and my sales guy was still sleeping.
How about the Lancer Raliart? Didn't see any of those either. They did have an EVO though. I got nervous just looking at that monster. (I kept getting visions of ending my life at 150mph.) :surprise:

Have any of yall (yep, that's how we say it down here in NC) had a chance to look at Mitsu's online newsletter? I like it quite a bit. There's even a survey so that we can provide Mitsu our "valuable" opinions and suggestions.
Does anyone have any idea of why Mitsu keeps juggling its trim levels? Sometimes the SE is the top level and sometimes XLS or GT is number one. And the SE seems to appear and disappear sporadically. No big deal, I'm just curious.
"...Does anyone have any idea of why Mitsu keeps juggling its trim levels?..."
Frequently, when sales are slow, management will instruct the staff to "do something about it". Anyone who says "it's the economy boss, we can't help it" will get kicked to the curb. So you get a lot of "busy work" activity. Doing something useless is better than doing nothing.

Well, being off 23% is better than being off 26% like last month. This is a heck of a tough sales market right now. Until the oil bubble bursts and sanity returns to the fuel market I can't see any one selling a lot of cars.
I hope Mitsu doesn't lose faith in the American market.
Has Mitsu released any news on it's electric car or any other high milage vehicles? The mania for any thing fuel-efficient would make those types of cars instant winners.

Can't wait.

Now has the wife driven that 3.8L yet or is she still afraid of it?
Speaking of sharing, I found the interesting article about Mitsu and Nissan. Click here or read below
March 3, 2008
Nissan and Mitsubishi to expand supply agreement

I've heard the GSR is out at a few dealerships but not here and the dealer says maybe a month, but they have said that every month.
Also will the EVO have roadside assistance? The dealer seems to not be very well informed and they have lost a lot of sales staff due to the poor economy.
Thanks

That's great. Should bring some extra $$$ on the trade.

Well, spring will be here soon and maybe you and your wife will enjoy some of those sunny days in the Eclipse (sort of a pun, I guess)

2021 Kia Soul LX 6-speed stick
Ahh. So the tire gremlins have left you alone.
Theres a mini-series called "Long Way Round" that was released as a DVD. Ewan Macgregor and another guy ride BMW motorcyles around the world with Mitsu Montero's as chase vehicles. They comment on camera how they can't believe what these stock grocery getters can do off road.
Actually I'm glad it's not a Raliart. At about 27K the Raliart might be in my price range if I sold everything I own. The 33K for the EVO would cost me a kidney.

I have thought these same thoughts as I drive and enjoy my '08 Lancer GTS but it is really nice to hear from those in the industry, including the UK.
2021 Kia Soul LX 6-speed stick

You're right, if it ain't Hon-Duh or Thai-ot-a with Clodsumer Retorts it ain't worth a toot. Their product is baseless and lame. Very, very lame.
OTOH-Mitsubishi is a bright star on the rise, gentlemen.

The '09 Galants look pretty good, it's on my short list when I replace my T-Bird next year. (I hope it lasts that long.)
I found this article on msn.com about Consumer Report's rating of the top reliable used vehicles. Mitsu has two in the list -- the Outlander and the Endeavor. The article is too long to post... click here or copy and paste http://editorial.autos.msn.com/article.aspx?cp-documentid=435706
oldfarmer, how many times has the misses driven the Eclipse
Still can't get her behind the wheel. :confuse: She likes to be driven around in it though. On Easter we went to the relatives and she was like a carnival barker telling everyone to go out and look at it, so I guess she's proud of it. But drive it herself, nope. I'm thinking that because it is such a fast car she is afraid of it (I never owned a car that made other cars shrink in the rear view mirror like this one).
Maybe this weekend I'll take her out to an empty parking lot and let her get used to it.
On a positive note both my sons have driven it and have left with ear to ear grins.

Forgot to ask the tech and my sales guy was still sleeping.
How about the Lancer Raliart? Didn't see any of those either. They did have an EVO though. I got nervous just looking at that monster. (I kept getting visions of ending my life at 150mph.) :surprise:

Sucks to be in the car business right now. On the bright side, I am seeing a tremendous increase in Mitsu cars in my area lately. Maybe they're giving them away but I don't recall seeing as many a few months ago.

By the way, oldfarmer, I don't think the Eclipse is a girlly car. The Miata is though
Does anyone have any idea of why Mitsu keeps juggling its trim levels? Sometimes the SE is the top level and sometimes XLS or GT is number one. And the SE seems to appear and disappear sporadically. No big deal, I'm just curious.
Frequently, when sales are slow, management will instruct the staff to "do something about it". Anyone who says "it's the economy boss, we can't help it" will get kicked to the curb. So you get a lot of "busy work" activity. Doing something useless is better than doing nothing.

According to one of my friends at Cypress, Mitsubishi is asking everyone over 55 to voluntarily retire.....
I hope Mitsu doesn't lose faith in the American market.
Has Mitsu released any news on it's electric car or any other high milage vehicles? The mania for any thing fuel-efficient would make those types of cars instant winners.
You would not believe the number of big trucks and SUV's I'm seeing for sale on lawns in my area. It's getting really scary. :surprise:
