    Thank you for the info! Also, not sure if you know the answer to this, but I am wondering about trade-ins to the dealer. I got a payoff price of $30,200 for my current jeep (carmax is offering $35k for it). About $2,200 of that is tax. Dealers do not have to pay tax on a trade in, correct? So their buyout would only be like $28k? Chrysler Capital would not give me a dealer payoff amount since I am not a dealer and I'm just wondering why that it - is it different depending on the dealer? I am in NY btw.

    Is the trade in a lease itself? If so, the dealer is likely to get a different buyout price from the bank. You have to pay the residual value in your lease contract, plus applicable sales tax.

    Use the Carmax offer to get your dealer to bump their trade value - I did that on my last transaction and the dealer came up $2K.

    - Yes the trade is on a lease as well. The residual is about $26k (lease is up in November).

    You aren't going to be able to find out the dealer's buyout price. Just show them the Carmax offer, and ask them to match
