I was at the dealer yesterday to buy this car, and the finance guy told me that the best rate for top tier credit for these terms (39mo./10K) was .00344, which equates to 8.25%, which is significantly higher than I expected from what you all gave me (which equals 7.3%). I shared my MF info, and he asked where I got it, and I said Edmunds. And he said, well this is what the VW system is showing him. Is he simply lying to me? Is there some way to confirm this? Or some explanation for the discrepancy? Thanks.

If you have top tier credit, then the dealer is marking up the MF on you for extra profit.

Pretty typical, in this market.

Shop around and see if you can find a dealer willing to give you the base rate.

Thanks for the quick reply. Curiously, I called VW credit directly to try to confirm the MF, and the woman I spoke with said she didn't have that information. She placed me on hold to apparently check with someone else and came back and said I'd have to get that info from the dealer. Of course, the dealer claims the info comes from VW! So, round we go. Such a frustrating racket.
As an update, I fought to eliminate all add-ons in the deal (initially over $3,000 worth of unnecessary stuff!) and to give me more on my trade, which has a lot of positive equity right now. So, I guess he has offset some of the loss there with the MF manipulation. It's really annoying. But all told, I still think I have an ok deal.

You're doing the right things.

VW Credit won't help you - the dealer is the final arbiter of the MF used for any given lease deal. I'm surprised they even talked with you, without an account in place (unless you have one already).
