Transmission fluid continues to go low. Not a drop on the ground, we park it in the driveway everytime. Where is it going?

my 02 Montero sport worked just fine until about a week ago, it decided when going down the freeway in cruise @ 80 mph to just downshift itself into low. Blew tranny fluid out the pan gasket and now when you try to drive it it will drive normal for 10 minutes until warm and then I get the flashing neutral indicator with service engine light and it wont shift out of low gear at all. changed the old fluid and filter, what else do I need to do to make it work again. Am mechanically inclined so can do most anything with cars. Any good advice on what to check, replace or look for?

I bought my 2000 Montero Sport XLS 4X4 New in December of 2000. I have driven the vehicle over 156,000 miles and recently has developed a trans shifting problem when the engine is cold, but shift's ok once warmed up. This vehicle has given me excellent service for 17 years. Have driven it through the US up to Canada, and down through Mexico. Never had a problem! MPG averages 16-18 in 2 wheel drive, and 10-12 in 4 whl drive. So far a Rock Solid Vehicle!
