The wooddash kit offers a nice touch to the Santa Fe. For pictures of how the kit looks on the main console and driver's door, check out the very generic website I just created:
at night or during day if you forget to turn your lights off......they will go off automatically when u turn your santa fe off have mine now with 766 mile so far no vibration or anything. salesman was very nice any one looking in tri state area look at lester glenn buick/hyundai toms river new jersey and ask for phillip vitakis great salesman....pleasure to work with him happy holidays to all
I posted this link last week, but it got lost in the changeover to the new chat software. This is a new test drive and review of the Canadian model of the Hyundai Santa Fe....
I got my Pewter GAS V6, WAD for MSRP 21300 last Monday. I love it but there are two things that concern me. The brakes are rather soft. Can that be adjusted. Also, I filled that tank up and the gauge took a long time to go up and then stopped short of full. I am sure I put in all that would go. Might be a sensor problem. anyone else see this?
These numbers will give you some idea on how many SFs are available.
As of Nov. 30, the total number of SFs shipped to the US was 22,025 and according to Hyundai Motor America, 3,627 SFs were sold in Nov.; 2,443 in Oct.; 406 in Sept.
Overall Hyundai sales declined about 5% in Dec. over the previous month level last year.
If you want to get a good deal, go to a high-volume dealer. Before you ever set your feet at a new car dealer's door, read Remar Sutton's book, "Don't Get Taken Every Time," the one and only book written by someone who really understands how this new car sales business works.
I think the No. 1 dealer in the Central Region is Hatfield Hyundai in Ohio. http://www.hatfieldhyundaiohio.com/ Last time I checked their web site listed 35 SFs in stock.
Do us all a favor and stay off of this board. You posts are always negative and condescending. If you think it sucks, please, STAY AWAY!!! The rest of us appreciate the information gained here.
Please have patience - this is a short post for test. Would like to establish the time-out period for post preparation. Over on the CM Yukon site we are having a lot of trouble on time-outs - failure to post if you take too long to prepare your message. Just wondering if everyone is having this trouble. It has taken 10 minutes - typing quite slow to prepare this post. Thank you.
The Gas gauge may not have gone up to full because in may not have been full. With the tight fuel filler hole on the Santa Fe, and perhaps resulting higher back pressure, I have found that most gas pumps will shut off before the tank is really near full. Some pumps are more sensitive than others and can shut off well before full. Once the pump initially shuts off you'll likely need very slow fuel flow to get it to full, from my experience ,and others on this board.
To Don434, I think it would help if you you prepare your message in a separate document then do a cut and paste after you are finished. This way, you can go thru your message and check it thoroughly for any kinds of errors, without running down the clock typing it on the web site.
It's snowing here in NY/NJ... I get to test my SF on a couple of inches of snow. Not much compared to other people from other state. So I'm feeling very optimistic..
The question has been posed as to why the tank doesn't show full when filled up... I noticed this also when I first filled up my Santa Fe.
I have always been the type of person to lock the pump handle in the full-squeeze mode(enabling a faster fill-up)... However, I have noticed that if you lock the gas pump on the first notch (the slowest setting) for filling instead of the last notch (full squeeze), the tank fills slower but shows over the "Full" mark when it pops off...
The manual says to stop after the first cut-off of the gas pump... My theory is that the faster you pump, the more air (and air bubbles) you put into the tank and thus, when it pops off the first time, you are not truly "full"... Conversely, a slower fill-up allows less air to be trapped in the tank (with less air bubbles) and allows more fuel to fill the tank... The only downside of the slower fill-up is that you might spend a few extra minutes waiting for your tank to completely fill...
Hope this helps!

p.s. Over 1700 miles on my Santa Fe and still LOVING it!!! The wood dash kit is next!!! "blkstar" (#604), yours kit looks GREAT!!!
Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah, I did run the pump very fast and then when I heard it close to the top sort of did little spurts to what I thought was the top but it might have had air in it. I will try it slower next time. I want it full to check the milage. We love the SF and my wife may sell her Mazda 626 and get a FWD version. My wife say she feels more secure in it, not just a speck on the road and it feels so solid.
I am wondering if anyone has seen a AWD GLS with Anti-lock brakes? Seems the only SF's I can find that have ABS are LX models. I don't know why Hundai has such an aversion to putting ABS on their cars as standard equipment. I guess I will have to go ahead and buy an LX because I do not want to compromise on ABS (cheaper insurance rate and ABS saved my life one day).
Also, any comments on the stereo system in the SF?
I have one. A Pewter GLS V-6 All Wheel Drive with ABS and Traction Control. It took four dealerships but I finally tracked one down. I felt the same as you. I don't understand why Hyundai would make ABS an option on the Santa Fe. The Chevy Astro AWD and Chevy Venture my wife and I had both had ABS as standard and it was great. Especially in the snow and ice.
I''m sad to say I could not find any GKS with AB so I went without. I never had the need of them but still wish hyundia made them standard. I sold my jeep and needed to buy and they had the color I wanted, Pewter in a GLS
I have owned my Santa Fe LX for 5 weeks now and have 1300 miles on it, I have not had a single problem. it rides great , handles great, and looks great. I am averaging 23 miles to the gallon in suburban driving. I am very satisfied with the SUV.
Hi everyone...I have been reading the posts and looking for some suggestions on how to buy a Santa Fe. Everywhere I have gone while here in Richmond, VA and Melbounre, Fl(where I use to live), the dealers have marked up the prices between 1500 - 2500 and don't wanna budge. I am looking for a GLS with AWD. Any ideas on how to approach the dealers? Thanks and Happy Holidays!! Chris
I was sort of upset about no abx but you might want ot read this link about how some studies show abx can actually put you into an accident such as when braking and turning at the same time, (very common in evasive situation) in which the abx can incrase braking distance up to 70%!
I have seen the study on ABS. However, if you ever get into a situation where you need braking and control then ABS is essential. The ABS on my BMW saved my life when a truck and camper trailer pulled in front of me through 2 lanes of traffic. Without ABS I would have gone nose into the trailer at 60+ mph. With ABS I managed to miss his truck by about a foot. ABS is also good in snow and ice. Now that I have it on both my cars I will never own a car without it. The problems with ABS are many times driver error, people don't know how to use them or are unaware that the grinding feel ABS gives is the way that they are supposed to work. Hyundai really needs to put ABS in as standard equipment. That is my biggest gripe with Hyundai's equipment.
GLS with ABS/Traction Control by allhyundai By the time you were done wasn't the price up to the price of an LX? That's what my dealer told me.
I just got a Sante Fe LX 6cyl 2WD for $19999 at Ford Drew Ford/ Hyundai La Mesa, California and it actually was better than that since they gave be about $700 more for trade-in than I expected. It doesn't have ABS but I basically got an LX for A GLS price. I live in San Diego where it doesn't rain much and never snows, so ABS was not that important. I wanted a GLS because I wasn't crazy about the LX additions, but there were only GL's and LX's in stock (about 20 GL's and 10 (LX's). I don't think I could have gotten a better deal. The dealership was great and they are a large volume dealer. If you are a San Diego Metro area resident, I highly recommend you see these folks. Make sure you use there url www.drew-auto.com to get the great starting price from a internet sales/fleet manager, Drew Ament or Paul Lawler.
PS: They are also a Ford and Isuzu deal, so if you think you want A Ford Escape or one of those Rodeo things, you can compare right there. They are a really huge dealership, so they have numerous models in stock.
The best thing about the ABS option on the Santa Fe is that it is part of a package that includes Traction Control. Considering that it is only a $595.00 option it is strange that it is not standard. If you live or travel where it snows or gets icy then these are the things you want in any vehicle. Traction Control only makes a 4WD better in adverse driving conditions. If your vehicle has ABS I suggest the next time you have ice or snow on the ground take a ride and find a deserted road where it is slick. Go about 20-30 mph and step on the brake and hold it down, don't release the pressure. You'll hear and feel the ABS working and you will be amazed at how straight your vehicle stops. I took my wife out last year in her Chevy Venture and had her do this just to get used to the feel and not to be surprised if she had to use it in an emergency.
As far as the pricing on my GLS, 4WD with ABS and TC RSharp83, I paid sticker price which was $21.909.00. In all of our visits to 4 dealers we never even saw a LX model. Besides we didn't want the leather seats anyway.
Thanks allhyundai for the pricing info. Our dealer has 4 LX's on the lot right now, seems the GLS is moving faster. I have a quote for an LX with ABS & traction for $22,814 so for the difference I might as well go for the LX because I really don't want to wait a long time to get the GLS (if one can be found). We are planning a trip to Colorado and I want some break in time before we make the trip.
I agree on ABS! as I said I will never own another car without it.
Despite problems I have had with my SF, the dealer has been very cooperative (and we may be nearing a fix, due to collaboration with Hyundai central...). That dealer is Fitzgerald's Hyundai in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Talk to Ken Cherry or Bill Sherrill: I paid about $450 under MSRP for a GLS with AWD and ABS. They are nominally a "no haggle" dealer, but I believe he will sell any of his stock for that price. As I have posted previously, be sure to carefully test-drive any specific one you are considering, but you might well find one without problems. The Fitzgerald web site is www.fitzmall.com
Hi rsharp..I haven't had any problems becuase I don't own one yet. The problem I have been having is dealers wanting over MSRP for a Santa Fe. I have offered dealers MSRP...check in hand..and they didn't take it. Just trying to find a dealer who is willing to take MSRP for one...
toeouch- Thanks for the link...I will check them out after the first of the year!!!
All the quotes I received from three different dealships in the San Diego area were below MSRP by at least $500. I ended up getting my LX for under $1000 under MSRP. There were no hidden charges. Maybe this is a regional thing. I guess becuase San Diego has such a mild climate, there is not the demand is not as high for these vehicles. I see more folks buying the Escape in this area. I don't know why, since you get much more for the Sante Fe.
INTERNENT BUYING SERVICES: I can not publicize enough the success I have had with internent buying services. The dealerships sign contracts with these servies to sell cars at aprroximately 2-5 hundred dollars over dealer's invoice (their costs). They have to show you the invoice and you can verify at sites like edmunds.com on kbb.com what yheir costs are. THIS REALLY WORKS! I have bought a Chevy Minivan and now a Sante Fe using this method. I recommend autobytel or autoadvantage. Carpoint prices seemed a little higher. Most dealerships in Southern California are internent savvy and will also quote you a price just over dealer invoice. They can do easily as even if they sell you a car a their exact costs, they will still receive a 2-3% holdback profit from the manufacturer and of course they will definitely make a profit on your trade-in at resale. My bottom line is, IF YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEM GETTING A SANTE FE BELOW MSRP USE THE INTERNET. I buy a car in three stages. Each is separate. Secure a good quoted price. 2nd: Secure good financing if required. 3rd: Determine acurate true value of trade-in and the resale retail value of your trade-in. You are miles ahead if you do these three things prior to even stepping into the dealership. You effecctively have taken the haggle out of the game. If you have any questions e-mail me at masterge@home.com.
Hello to all.I was in this group awhile back under the name jsrace...Well my computer crapped out.Now for the vibration.I am told that they are going to replace the rear end and while they first thought it was the front shaft apparently not!As toeouch had said it didn't fix the problem.Since my dealer has the front shaft, when the rear comes in their are going to replace both.If this doesnt fix the vibration I am going to demand a new Santa Fe.Too bad that I truly think that the Hyundai Santa Fe is a great vehicle."BUT" this vibration thing gots to go!I want to further add that I have had no other problems with this SUV.Basically free of rattles, rides great. It is a LX AWD.
The guy who said to fill up slower is right. This time I went slower with it and got the guage to show full and probably put in an additional 4 gallons from the high speed fill up I did a coule days ago. I have never had any vehicle require this but it will affect your milage calculations.
I have been thinking about using a internet buying service but I have a few questions. What service did you use? Was it a regional one or a nation wide service. Also, are you allowed to drive the car you want to buy before you seal the deal? The only reason I ask is becuase of this vibration issue I have heard about with a few Santa Fe's.... Thanks!! Chris
Would the shiftronic transmission be beneficial say in mud or snow to keep it in 2nd gear or so instead of letting the auto-transmission try to shift up?
It was a nationwide service, www.autobytel.com. autoadvantage.com does the same. You tell them your zipcode and they will send to the nearest dealer enrolled in their program. These sites get you the starting price. You are not obligated to buy and don't sign anything. After getting the low starting quote, you hen you go to the dealer, test drive, make a better deal if you can but the quoted price will probably be only 200 to 5000 over dealer costs. The dealer will try to sell you lojack, carpet and fabric treatment, under coating, extended warranty etc, but that is how they make their money. Don't buy anything except the car and you will get a good deal.
Drove my new Nordic White Santa Fe LX off the show room floor two weeks ago. Took it on a 1,000 mile round trip from Florida to Alabama that same evening. Only problem I had was the clock; it flickers intermittently and flashes when I use the turn signals..but only when the headlights are on.
I noticed another post that said something about a brush guard under the front. Mine does not have that guard. Kinda curious if it is supposed to have one..
Ordered mud guards for it and wanted to order the front deflector shield but was told it is not yet available. If anyone knows how/where to get that nose shiled I'd love to know so I can order one.
This site has been so wonderful for us, in contemplating the different suv's out there. We are going to buy in the spring, and I have researched several of em, and as a previous owner of a hundaui,(Had to go to a van when new one came along) I love the sante fe, I know this is the one we will buy. I like it in either the pewter, or the blue. We live in southern ill., and they seem to be pretty easy to find here. I will keep reading on here till spring, and hopefully there will be positive messages on the beautiful suv.
Sorry I've been so long in getting back to you, I've been out of town the past few days. Anyway, if you do end up going to Edwards, the dealer my wife and I dealt with was John Harris.
Thanks to those of you who have been posting your messages here, expressing your satisfaction with the Santa fe. Well, I am picking mine up today, my very first car ever!!!. I paid a drive out price of $20,500. Is this a good deal? or have I been hard. And secondly how can I tell if my GLS is AWD or FWD??
Thank you so much for all of the info regarding the SantaFe. I'm impressed with it. Has anyone read anything regarding safety/crash tests results? Hate to buy one and then it receive bad results. THANKS!
After doing a bunch of research and reading my wife and I drove the Sante Fe today in the snow. Very nice, decent power, good car like ride. We are ready to purchase but are waiting for one with ABS and for a final price on my trade in. But the Sante fe was impressive, hopefully we will soon own one.
The street price on the Santa Fe is now near or at par with American brands with reputations established over many years and with a high repeat buyer rate. No need to buy untested, loosely spec'd and overpriced foreign cars. They've just performed a real service for American auto manufacturers(and I'm no fan of American cars generally). You can get a Camry LE with a V6 for the price of an LX or GLS and the ride, handling and bad weather driving is better. (Yes, Mr./Ms.Hyundai, I have driven these vehicles). Gouging for full advertising and the ten year warranty are a problem. They have no invoice for these items. They are virtually pure markup. You reasonably need an incentive to buy a Santa Fe such as significantly lower price and a lengthy warranty or it makes no sense to purchase one.
just dropping a note went over relatives house for dinner during holidays and had full load in santa fe 3 in the back 2 in front still got to 75 with no probs fog lights light up that bottom part of road directly in front of vehicle....
Went to post #631 nice link there for pictures of Santa Fe. Went to owners gallery section and there it was, the color I want. Crimson orange, problem is cant find it in the brouchers or as a color option on any websites. Is this color only available in Canada? If so, could you get it if you order a Santa Fe from the factory.
I can buy a fully loaded Sante Fe LX with everything for less than $23,000 and have a long warranty. I don't consider that overpriced since any comparable American model is at least that if not much more for those features. Anyway, the most comparble American is the Ford Escape and right now there are far more problems with it than the Sante Fe.
That's apples annd oranges. I need my Santa Fe as a forester when I get on slcik clay roads and believe me without 4wd you will not get out. I want it because in our Mazda 626 you are looking straing at the bumper of others SUV and that is not safe for the family. Yeah, I know about rollovers but I feel the car based SUV's will not be as prone to that. As far as a Camry, we have a Mazda 626 with FWD/traction control for several thousand less than Camry.
ABS is part of add on packages. Package 11 for LX I believe. (that could be the wrong number) The package lists traction control and ABS. I wouldn't buy any car w/o ABS.
