I get the same payment, exactly.

Is $2500 discount good? I don't really know, but I get the feeling that is where you might do a little better. That's less than 4% of MSRP.

It's a nice payment, relative to MSRP, as is.

The dealer came back and said the numbers in the spreadsheet (based on Edmunds lease calculator) won't work. They said:

"The price is 36 months @ $851.65 with 10k miles per year and $1148.11 due at signing that includes the 1st payment, temp tag and cap tax. You have to use the $7500 EV lease bonus and the $2000 Spring lease bonus as a rebate ....so its taken off the vehicle price after tax."

If that's true (I doubt it is since I've used this spreadsheet for my past 6 cars), how would I reflect this in the spreadsheet. Something sounds fishy.

BTW, I live in Ohio, where only the depreciation amount is taxed (not the full cost of the car).

Actually, Ohio taxes the sum of the payments, not just the depreciation. And, it's collected upfront, not collected monthly. (though, you can certainly roll the total amount of the tax into the CAP cost).

So, in effect, the dealer is correct. You pay sales tax on the calculated lease payment, and you also pay sales tax on any CAP reductions (which includes those big rebates).

The difference between your calculations and the quote can be pretty much summed up by the difference in calculated tax. 6.75% of $9500 (rebate) = $641.25

$9.92 (higher payment) X 36 mo = $353.52 + $348.11 (extra due at signing) = $701.63

The extra amount ($60) is likely due to the tax being rolled into the CAP cost, and therefore adding to the finance charges in the lease payment.

Not fishy at all.

No, you'll have to calculate the tax separately, add it to the CAP cost, then re-calculate.

Also, side note. I really appreciate you diligently providing this information for the research-driven leasing/buying community. It truly empowers me as a buyer by helping me make more informed decisions, cut through dealer obfuscation, and just minimize agony and time wasted.

A dealer very recently provided me a marked up MF on an initial lease quote for another car I was shopping for. I simply told them that I know the base MF is xyz (thanks to you), and without a peep they immediately revised their quote.
