1.39 for chevron 87 oct. out here in CA. i really envy you folks back east. in august, i came back to Mich. and really enjoyed the stay. noticed that even then, gas prices were cheaper than CA. also enjoyed the landscape, beautiful back there, just wish the CA's weren't so greedy.

Im sure it is... just my luck, I leave the country on study-abroad for three months and THATS when prices start to sink. Just like Im sure theyll be back up when I get back.

Mid-west pricing nearing .99/gallon for regular unleaded.
  • eharri3eharri3 Member Posts: 640
I knew it. Ill probably get back just in time for them to skyrocket to like $2
  • prophet2prophet2 Member Posts: 372
Finally had a reduction, though most places still exceed $2.00/gallon for Premium. Lowest self-serve prices:

    1.789 87 regular .......... down $ 0.01
    1.859 89 plus .............. no change
    1.949 92 premium ....... down $ 0.01

    Whoopie! ...............

I don't even live anywhere with palm trees and pay about that much. It is getting better here in lovely Chicago:

    1.599-87 octane
    1.699-89
    1.799-93

this is about 20 cents cheaper across the board than a week and a half ago.

why drive 35 miles to save on gas? But I do go out there every now and then anyway, thanx for the invite....

today, I paid 1.519 for regular, at a Citgo (used to be an Amoco).

Hey people, are all your Amocos slowly turning into BPs? Anyone else think this is stupid?

    $0.629 / L Heehee!

    Have fun saving $$, guys!
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,023
...here in MD, we still have Amocos, but I haven't seen a BP in awhile now. All the stations that used to be BP's are now Crown Petroleum.

There's a Citgo in my old home town of Glenn Dale that's usually one of the cheapest guys around. I think it used to be an Arco or something like that back in the 80's.
  • mykemmykem Member Posts: 203
Saw a remodeled Amoco as a BP... awful... garish... Whomever decided on Green, Lighter Green, Yellow and White obviously was going for the annoyance award.

Luckily, living in the US I have a choice... and I choose not to go to a BP... or Amoco.

I think they should have kept the Amoco or Standard name and stations. With that they wouldn't need the rebranding campaign on the radio and establishing a new trust in the consumers that BP is Amoco. They could have saved tens of millions of dollars!

The Amoco I previously reported on lowered their gas prices last night to 1.449, 1.549 and 1.639. That station hasn't been remodeled.

I realize Amoco is now owned by BP, but I would think just for the sake of brand recognition (and not having to actually spend money to turn our gas stations green and yellow) that the stations should just 'stay' Amocos. We've never had BPs here in Chicago (though I've seen them in Ohio and points east for years), so why start now?
  • bushonebushone Member Posts: 39
Just broke the buck mark for regular unleaded 87 oct. at the local Citgo. 93 was 1.21. You poor poor people in the republic of CA.

at Exxon and Texaco stations this weekend for 87 octane (paid $0.999 at a different Exxon a week ago).
  • hiwaysanityhiwaysanity Member Posts: 216
We're still at ~$!.35 for regular. Wish some of these lower prices would get up here. Maybe then I could buy in quantity - maybe have the basement filled up to the window sills!
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
    We are still paying.....

    $1.57 for 87 Octane
    $1.68 for 88.5 Octane
    $1.78 for 90 Octane
    $1.53 for Diesel

I think our prices have gone down 2 cents in the past month.

In a roughly 10 mile radius of my home in Crofton, MD, I'd say that gasoline ranges from $1.139 a gallon (a WaWa up in Millersville), to around $1.40 a gallon. Most prevalent price seems to be around $1.30 a gallon.

If it was more convenient to me, I'd fill up at the WaWa, but it's the opposite direction from my work. I do make it a point though, to top off the gas tank every time I'm up that way though!
  • wlbrown9wlbrown9 Member Posts: 867
I passed at $1.099 Friday afternoon. Pulled up at the pump Saturday and did a triple take. It was down to $0.949 for 87. My brother-in-law said he paid the same at Kroger's pumps Saturday, but they were back up to $1.089 (includes a nickle a gallon discount if you have their discount card) by Sunday. This in near I-40 in NE Memphis. 1/2 mile down the street at Shell they still had $1.239 on the sign for 87 octane. Wonder who started this little gas war?
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
I doubt I'm ever gonna see prices like that again.
Now visiting mom in Noblesville, IN, prices were as follows:

    1.169/1.269/1.369

As regular in Chicago is now ~$1.50, I had to indulge and get the 93 octane while here, which I seldom do when home in Chitown.

Another inch down for 87 octane

    $1.159

And are fuel prices a leading indicator of how the economy will be doing a year from NOW?
  • bushonebushone Member Posts: 39
We have moved to the mid 90's now for 87...and still falling.

How Low can they go is right! 75 per gal sounds like a nice figure. What ya think wil, time for that underground tank yet? lol
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
The wife paid .99 for regular yesterday. Don't know if we'll get to .75, but it would be a nice Christmas present!

plus handed out coupons for free food which took advantage of today... steak and cheese sub and for my wife taco (both with all the fixings). Is this a great country or what!
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,023
...but a co-worker who lives out that way confirmed that our local WaWa, the cheapest guy around, is down to $1.079 for 87 octane!

Just for kicks, I punched $1.08 into an inflation calculator, to equate it to prices in the old days, and here's what I got...

$1.08 in 2001 dollars equates to...
    $.83 in 1991
    $.55 in 1981
    $.25 in 1971
    $.18 in 1961
    $.16 in 1951

Now I don't know what gasoline really cost back in those days, but I'm sure it was a lot more than that!
  • hiwaysanityhiwaysanity Member Posts: 216
that when I was a kid in the late 50's, gas and cigarettes always cost about the same. You could put a quarter into a vending machine and get a pack of cigarettes back with two pennies in the wrapper for change. That puts it at about $.23 per gallon.
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,023
...guess it's a good thing gasoline didn't follow cigarette trends. Aren't cigs going for something like $3.50-$4.00 a pack now?
  • hiwaysanityhiwaysanity Member Posts: 216
    I don't know! LOL
  • wilcoxwilcox Member Posts: 582
Thankgoodness I'm only hooked on gasoline and not two packs a day. How about that, a pack of cigarettes cost about the same as a six pack of Natural Light and almost four times as much as a gallon of regular!

    wil
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
I remember gas and cigarettes being the same price briefly, sixty cents. Those were the days when an eight year old (me) could go to the gas station with a note and buy cigarettes for mom. Nice, eh?
  • wilcoxwilcox Member Posts: 582
Mom used to smoke. Used to.....
  • cyranno99cyranno99 Member Posts: 419
the local newspaper today reports that some gas stations are getting lots of customers due to 98 cents per gallon and falling.....
  • mykemmykem Member Posts: 203
1.02 on Saturday. Friend said the gas was 1.09 in the morning, and 1.04 around noon. I was there around 3PM.

This station was so close to the IL/IN state line, the gas station property was the border.

Chicago area gas prices are all over the board ranging from 1.21 to 1.55.

I paid $1.639 (!!!) for 93 octane last night, this is still 'normal' here (Citgo, corner of Irving Park and Clark). I only buy there cuz they have a car wash I like. I now wish I would have filled up in Indiana on the way back from mom's last week!!

I think I gotta move out of Chicago, or earn at least $50k (1.50 gas, $1000 rents are common).

  • wlbrown9wlbrown9 Member Posts: 867
    1970 or so.. about $.22 - $.30 gallon
1956 or so.. saw $.179 during a gas war in
Wichita Falls, Tx. but I think the
price was more in the mid twenty
    range.

Of course, I'm not sure the portion of the pump price that is tax now compared to then.

Also, I remember the 1973 Monte Carlo I bought had an MSRP of right at $4500 and a 2002 with some options would be about 5 times that $22,500 or so. Hum, $.30*5= $1.50. Not that far off, of course the gas price has bounced around a lot more over the years than vehicle prices.
  • pat84pat84 Member Posts: 817
I bought a 1968 VW bug for a little under $2K new. Gasoline was about $.30 a gallon. The VW had a about a10 gallon tank. I remember filling up for under $3.

My usual Sunoco truck stop, Palisades Park, NJ - price compared to October 11

Finally broke $1.90 for premium. Saw a couple of places at $1.879.

I'm back to under $30 for a normal fill-up (near "E" but the picture of the gas pump not lit up).

87 still at $1.21 at the local Citgo and has been that way for a week now. Still don't understand with Port Everglades not even 10 miles away. Would love to see the price around $1.00, now that would be a great holiday present!
  • hood54hood54 Member Posts: 12
Last week I paid $.95 for 87 octane at Sam's; today I paid $.90/gal for 87 octane. Most of the other neighborhood stations are between $.95 and $.98.

Prices are down and with the cooler weather my mileage has gone up from 23mpg to 28 mpg. Life is good. :-)
