Prices in State College, PA have tended to be the same everywhere for the most part, but today I saw a range of $1.029 to $1.079 for 87

Maybe a prelude to a drop?

I'll be down in the Philly area this weekend doing a little on the road research!

It's hovering around $1.09 for 87 in my part of St. Louis, but if I drive 25 miles to the next county (further inland, further from the river) it is $0.98. I don't live anywhere near downtown, where prices are always higher. The mystery of gas pricing.

Here in the south Seattle area, particularly the city of Tukwila, unleaded is $1.11. As far as I know, that is the cheapest in town. And I think it will go down some more in the next few days or weeks.
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
I can't remember the actual prices, but I'm pretty sure we are down below $1.30 here in Chicago for regular (north side, home of tax on tax for everything, and gas that's forty cents higher than twenty miles away).

MOSCOW -- Russia announced today that it would reduce oil exports by 150,000 barrels a day beginning Jan. 1, in response to OPEC's calls for production cuts to help stabilize oil prices. - snip -
Thank goodness the middle east doesn't have US over a barrel, we also get to deal with good ole trustworthy Russia.

Gas has dropped from about $1.69 last summer to $1.05 this morning. If I were to drive into L.A. where my son fuels our truck I could get it for .98. Because I have read in so many of these forums that the rising gas prices were all due to people driving SUVs I guess we can thank the SUVs for lowering the prices? It looks like taking a few jets out of the air has far more effect? Or just maybe opec tries to charge whatever the traffic will bare? Just Kidding, but it sounds like I sold my big truck just a bit too soon.

Kirstie, I used to live in Kirkwood (almost right behind the Ford dealer on Manchester). I kinda miss it, except in the summer.

OK, now that I live in Chicago, we have better summers but worse gas prices. Generally, they're about $1.299/1.399/1.499 at the premium stations (BP Amoco/Shell).
  • lariat1lariat1 Member Posts: 461
What do we have to do up here in Alaska to get lower gas prices? It seems the prices are falling everywhere but up here. It is still $1.44 for 87 up here. Its amazing how the last time oil prices were $15 a barrel gas was $1.20 now it is 25 cents more.
  • woody72woody72 Member Posts: 73
Gas 'down' to $1.47 for 87. We all think this is cheap compared to about a month ago at $1.87 and at the peak at $2.11. Alaska and Chicago you are not alone
  • rljslickrljslick Member Posts: 59
The price have drop to $1.12 at Citgo for 87 in So. East Wisconsin!
  • claywaterfillclaywaterfill Member Posts: 534
I only pay attention to 87 octane, but it's going for about .79 at "no-name" stations and about .81 at "name" stations. The strange thing is when you see gas cheaper at one store than at another store of the same brand a couple of miles away!
  • kenjabikenjabi Member Posts: 76
I find that gas prices are similar to real estate prices. The 3 most important factors are: location, location, location. For example here in the Maryland suburb of DC in which I live, the price of 87 gas at a particular "name" station is 1.199. At the same "name" station in the next town over, the price is 1.119.

Why the difference? Well, the station in the next town over is in a smaller town, and is right across the street from a "no-name" station selling gas for 1.079. But the "name" station in my town is in a more densely populated area, near shopping centers and the like. Plus, the only other stations in town are other "name" stations which won't force the prices down.

Ok, keeping with the spirit of the thread, here are the current prices at the aforementioned "no-name" station (in Ashton, MD).

    1.079 for 87
    1.159 for 89
    1.199 for 93
  • lariat1lariat1 Member Posts: 461
Up here in Alaska we get ALL our gas from ONE refinery that I live about 2 miles from. Every gas station in the interior of Alaska gets its gas from this place. If one station tries to sell gas cheaper than the others that station will not get as much gas as the others. We have the benefit of 0 competition so there is no reason for the refinery or stations to lower gas prices.
  • cyranno99cyranno99 Member Posts: 419
about 89 cents for 87 octane at Exxon and 99 cents for 93 octane.... probably as cheap as a convenient store gas station..
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
I hear ya. I guess I didn't really pay much attention to the gas prices when I was driving my 01 Jetta that got 35 mpg. Now I am driving a 98 Grand Cherokee that gets about 15 mpg in the winter, fill ups hurt now. Also, my husband just went from a diesel to a Dodge with a 360........17 mpg to 11 mpg.

BTW, I talked to Sue about that sensor and she said that they would only move it if it becomes a problem. Basically she told us to live with the overdrive locked out when its cold. No biggie I guess. Our Dodge has developed a vacuum leak in the t-case.......so, intermittant 4WD.
  • lariat1lariat1 Member Posts: 461
wow you are a lot more patient than I am when they tell me that I have to wait I tell them I will wait right there and they 2 choices fix it now or make an appointment. If they really try to push it I unleash my 2 year ols son on their new showroom trucks in 15 minute increments.
Well today I am off to Canadaa so I will get to see some really nasty gas prices I figure it will be $2.00 a gallon on the way.
    Happy holidays to all
  • KCRamKCRam Member Posts: 3,516

for now(untl Jan first)i pay .99 for 87 Octane,at Kroger's store gas stations. 1 mile down the road at Speedway, $1.18 per gallon of 87!!!

Was told when the gas porduction slows down Jan 1st, expect to be paying $1.20-$1.50 !!!!

OPEC will cut oil production 1.5 Million barrels a day starting jan first.

Maybe those Hybrids won't be such a bad idea once the Honda Hybrid comes out in March(said to be just like driving a regular civic, but 50 mpg for 5 seater).??
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
gas is still ~ $1.30/1.40/1.50 here in Chicago. As hjr2 mentioned, none of us need be too 'used to' cheap gas prices, they're bound to go back up.
  • hjr2hjr2 Member Posts: 105
you are right. That .99 went up to 1.09 overnight at Kroger's.

I did hear on the news that supposedly he cut back in production shouldn't make prices fluctuate wildly, but you kn ow the stations, they'll raise them anyways.

I remeber last March(5th, actually) that gas around Lake county/NW Indiana when we visited, gas was $1.22 where it was $1.39 in Ohio, now it seems reversed.
    Oh well, we will survive.
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
At least around here (State College, PA) if there's even a WHIFF of a move by OPEC to cut production, gas prices jump up. Went from $1.09 to $1.13 overnight... but we never seem to see the same sized moves in the other direction occur as fast.

Going to work the Amoco was:
    1.119

Saw the Afternoon edition of the Paper:
    OPEC TO CUT OIL PRODUCTION

    Going home, the Amoco was:
    1.199.

    Mobil down the block, still:
    1.119

    Meijer, Shell, Speedway: 1.189

    The very next day:
All (but Amoco) were back to 1.119.
    Amoco was at 1.149.

    The day after that
    Mobil: 1.119
    Meijer, Shell, Speedway: 1.189
    Amoco: 1.199

Didn't check yesterday and haven't gone out today...

If I wanted more government in my life, I'd be screaming "REGULATION!"
