we're sitting at $3.15/gal for RUG. And I wouldn't be surprised if it's higher when I venture out later this morning. $10.00 by the end of 2011, though? Uh-ugh. Maybe $5.50 for RUG would be my best guestimation.

$3.44 today for regular. One station is at $3.54 for the ethanol free stuff. Diesel was $3.74, premium was $3.84.
  • motorcity6motorcity6 Member Posts: 427
Only needed 1/2 tank of gas, however realizing that gas pricing was getting pretty fluid to big spikes, went for the mid-grade pricing of $3.315..This morning went by the same station on the way to the beach and the cheapo regular was $3.46..

The public is getting "hosed" big time.. Maybe one should watch who they vote for in 2012..Drill-baby-drill......I am sure this will kick the Big3 sales down the hill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's bad is that there's plenty of gasoline in the pipeline. And there's going to be even more as people cut back driving (and buying stuff) even more due to the price pop.

"Futures fell 0.6 percent as a Bloomberg News survey showed gasoline stockpiles rose 1.85 million barrels last week from 240.9 million, the highest level since 1990." (Bloomberg)

That story is 10 days old so futures rose since then. Supplies probably rose too.

My local Shell went up another dime today. $3.74 RUG. They should be hitting 4 bucks soon.

California always leads the way. :)

I'm afraid to ask about your propane.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
Propane was a pleasant surprise for me. Just had the tank filled and the price dropped by 10 cents to $2.89 gallon equivalent. Still cost me $7.41 per day to keep the house at 68 during the day. Heat off at night. That was for all of January and over half of February. Winter of 2007-08 we were paying $3.28 PGE.

No, I was responding to Gary, and I know he lives somewhere in San Diego County. I'm a Yooper. :shades:

I love Cali and my wife is from La Mesa, but can't afford to live there.

Get yourself an old VW Mini van with Save the Whales and Redwoods stickers plastered all over it then, just park at the beach. Relatively cheap living if you learn where the government controlled Farmers Markets are held. Better yet the dozens of Food Banks.

I work in Concord, and this morning I saw $3.799/gallon for regular unleaded posted at the Chevron station near Sun Valley Mall. It was just $3.699 a week ago! And premium gas has already reached $4.00 a gallon here.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    $3.54 today for regular.
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,023
$3.499 for 93 octane, when I filled up my Park Ave. Last time I had filled up, on the 14th, it was $3.399, so at least the price jump wasn't TOO hideous!
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
Filled the Lexus at Costco this morning. 91 octane $3.89. RUG $3.69 up 36 cents in less than two weeks. Will we hit $4.59 the peak we paid in 2008???
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Paid 3.82 for premium at Chevron this evening...$4 is knocking on the door.

It's already $4.05 in Cupertino, CA, so $4.59 is not far off. I wouldn't be surprised to see these prices by next week.

It's now $3.859 at the Chevron near my work place. Shell is still at $3.799 and both of these prices are for REGULAR unleaded!

Libya is going through a civil war, and many other oil-producing countries may follow suit. When that happens, you can bet that gas prices will skyrocket, people will start dumping their SUV's for econoboxes all over again, and the recession will deepen.

For those of you without locking gas caps, invest in one now. In our area, when gas prices are high, crooks resort to siphoning gas from trucks, SUV's and vans.

News on the $4/gallon gas can be read here: http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2011/02/28/some-bay-area-gas-prices-top-four-do- - llars/

Had to fill up the van today. First time this year. :shades:

Got the price down to $3.42 with coupons so saved about a buck overall.

While my wife was pumping the gas, I went to the coffeehouse across the street and got a breve for $3.44. So coffee is now a dime cheaper than a gallon of gas and gets me further. :)

You're probably just comparing the item to the item without considering the volumes, but that coffee is way more expensive than the gasoline.

I'm in the UP now Explorerx4, and mostly have been driving the Subaru since November if it looks like snow. Lately there's been lots of dry pavement and sunshine so the van is getting more use. It's a bit more comfy for tooling around in, especially when we take the elderly in-laws to their doc appointments, like today.

And we're in town again, so we walk a lot and may not drive either car for a couple of days.

UP? It's probably not worth the 50+ gallons of fuel it would take me to get there to siphon 10 or gallons out of your tank.
The return trip would feel like victory though, since it would only take 40 or so paid with my own money. :)

Which usually means from June through Labor Day......

Now I know you folks dread our NJ prices because they always seem low, but here goes - $3.19 regular around town but when prices are rising rapidly we have our special trick. The gas stations on the state authority roads (Garden State Parkway, NJ Turnpike and Atlantic City Expressway) are only allowed to change their prices once a week - on the Parkway it's Friday). Right now the Parkway price is $3.08 for regular. Since I have to go by there pretty regularly I made a point of filling up.

Of course you have to watch it. Last time gas went like this a coworker's husband got on a long like for the cheaper gas and got hit from behind, totaling the car and taking whatever gas was in the tank with it....

Didn't fill-up at my usual this time around - their fuel was same price as the Shells, Mobils @ $3.55 but was able to fill-up at my alternate for $3.48 for 87 octane (still a 34 cent jump in 9 days). It is on my route so it wasn't out of the way to save the 7 cents/gal. On the commute this morning about half the $3.56 stations were at $3.70. At these stations diesel was at $3.89, a couple pennies less than premium.

Guess it's time to start posting in the "How does $4 gas impact you?" thread again - or maybe change the $4 to $5?

Here in Flag the prices are $3.59 -$3.69 for regular just off the I40...in town a ways you can drop down to $3.39; however, I'm seeing that creep to $4 happening daily....and a client of mine who owns a gas/mini mart thinks $5 is not too far off :surprise:
  • motorcity6motorcity6 Member Posts: 427
Venice, Fl, mid-grade $3.679, and getting 19.87mpgs....however after my discount it is $3.492.. The Camry was filled couple days ago, and it averages 22.93 mpgs..The Mustang GT is next, and it will be in the low-low 20 mpgs.. This is Shell petrol...Actually Mobil is a few cents lower, but no discount on the charge card..

I noticed the thief Shell outlet on the isle of Venice is $3.659 cash, reg..Don't want to get into the management of that outlet..I stopped there once to buy a lighter and it is a family run station..I think I would bypass that outlet if my car ran out of gas in front of the station...

One good side of the high gas prices is that the stock market will melt down and my short bets will pay off..
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Was $3.54 on the 1st; today regular is $3.64.
  • explorerx4explorerx4 Member Posts: 20,723
Was stopped at a light. 2 Gas stations on the other side of the intersection, one on each side.
On the right, Mobil 3.699. To the left Shell, 3.579.
Light turns green, car a few ahead cuts left across the double yellow into the Shell station.
    No big surprise there.

Good God, $4 gas will be here by the end of the week at this rate and $5 is very plausible by next month. I'll just go over to Libya and bust a cap in Gaddafi if it means an end to this nonsense!
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
The killer is that we are now looking at Qadaffi (i think there are 37 ways to spell his name) as a stabilizing force - like he's the good guy. Yikes! Of course the problem isn't so much the civil war in Libya as it is the speculation going on with not knowing what's next. The market is still flooded with both oil and gasoline.

Last Friday the Lukoils on the Garden State Parkway went from $3.08 to $3.25. By Saturday that $3.25 was a bargain.

The price goes up again this Friday. I'll fill it on Thursday. It pains me to buy Lukoil but the local Sunoco is a full dime more expensive and by now may be even more. I have to pass the Lukoil on the Parkway anyway.

We had a day last week where prices bumped up 4 times in one day to get us to $3.49

Then for good measure we got a 10 cent jump the next day and have been at $3.59 for 87 since
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
I do like that in NJ at any station you're only allowed to bump up once per day. On the toll roads it's once per week.

Now that I filled with relatively cheaper gas my daughter asked to borrow the van for the weekend....
