Sounds like a real deal, I wish I had the luxury of time I might have gone that route and bought another QX4, but insurance co. told me I had four days left on the rental, so I had to move quickly, I snapped up a very nice Acura 3.2. Cl Type-S.
The only thing I salvaged from the QX were the brand new tires Yokohama Geolanders 245/70/16 one week old..
Anyone looking for new tires or know where I can sell these babies? Bought them from the tirerack.
02 QX4 manual says "Tire chains must be installed only on the rear wheels and not on the front wheels."
However http://www.vulcantire.com/chainfaq.htm#A5 says "...it is strongly reconnended by Vulcan tire sales that you apply tire chains to all four wheels no matter what your vehicle's drive configuration to offer the best traction and maintain the vehicle's normal handling properties."
Never used tire chains before. I tend to stick to QX4 owner's manual. But without knowing more details I think all four wheels with chains should have better traction correct?
Manual says use only SAE class S chains (low profile I guess?). And in some area on I-80 near border of CA and NV, if a sign of "chain required" (something like that) shows up, drivers have a mile distance before the check point to stop and put chains on, or get citation/ticket.
Haven't been in the situation like this but I need to prepare for skiing in Tahoe area.
Last year I went to Reno the first time in winter, and didn't see those "chain required" sign.
Did you mean even with the signs showing up they still let you pass with no chains? According to online info there are 3 or 4 different signs depending on how severe the snow is. Some sign requires chains on, no matter what car, 2WD or 4WD...
Already shopped for a Class S chain but haven't got one. Hope things are like what you said and let us 4WD with M&S tires pass with no chains.
I know that many have found this to be an issue with the QX4/Pathfinder. My experience is that pumping the brakes makes them solid. I plan on asking the dealer to bleed the brakes under warranty. Will they do it as a warranty item?
I just played them while I was listening to CDs, and found if I press and hold the arrow buttons more than 1.5 second or so, it will go to the previous or next CD (depending on which arrow button I pressed) and start to play. The owner's manual only talks about "press and hold less than 1.5 second" that will skip to the next track. It talks about "more than 1.5 second" but only on tape play, not on CD play.
I used to think to change to another CD I have to press the "1, 2, 3..." buttons on the center console.
I'm trying to decide on two 2001 model QX4's: 1. $21K - 48K miles, 4WD, additional 36K miles extended warranty +$1,000 2. $26K - 28K miles, 4WD, navigation sys, extended warranty +$1,600
I like the exterior color of #2 better and I think I can use the nav. Both are from good dealers, and the cars have gone thru 151 pts inspections (or so they said). Which one do you think is a better deal, and should I take the ext. warranty?
If I were to buy, I'd probably buy #1, as the navigation is nice but not a must to me. If it's DVD based then I'm more interested in it. Besides, many say with nav system in place, the A/C becomes screen (software) controled therefore more difficult to access.
I'd not buy extended warranty on Japanese big three: Honda/Acura, Nissan/Infiniti and Toyota/Lexus. Other cars I don't know.
Basic warranty is 4 year - 60,000 miles...Is that still in effect?...I've 2001 and I'd go with #1...But if you are married...Your wife will tell you which one to get..Think twice about the warranty...You can always get one later...
Went skiing at Mt. Rose on 12/29, and weather got nasty in the afternoon. Snow was so thick (maybe one foot or so) that I didn't have enough room to get under the car and put tire chains on. Even 4Lo setting didn't get the car out of parking lot. I kicked some snow around tires out and moved the car out. Many cars were still trying hard, at least one ML and one MDX...
One the road back down Reno, there were quite a few cars slipped to the side of road and most couldn't get out by themselves no matter what. Everyone was at stop-and-go speed. At one point I wanted to see what 2WD would do. As soon as I switched to 2WD, the front wheel started slipping to right side of road. Back to 4Lo and back to road. Another time the car slipped to road side again at 4Hi, and I turned to 4Lo and back to road again. That was all I slipped. Along the road I saw some Jeeps and trucks stuck...
That was my first time in such a nasty weather/snow. My one conclusion is that 4WD is a strong advantage; very slow speed, no abrupt operation are keys to safety.
The other night while I was driving home on the highway. My 01 Xenon lights went out. My fog lights were still on, so I pulled over. After playing around with the knob, they turned back on. Now, this happened once a long time ago but didn't think about it til now. Anybody have this problem before? I'm planning on taking in since it's still under warranty but thought I'd ask the board.
I just got my 2001 QX4 4x4 from a dealer, paid $23650 and I'm very happy with this vehicle. I was debating going with slightly used pathfinder 2003s with 16K miles on them for $24k. It appeared to me the QX4 I got was in better condition than some of these pathfinders. The dealer marked it as a certified pre-owned so my warranty will extend to 2007, it is QX4 Golden Sand, has 41k miles, one owner leased it with all service records. The interior and exterior are in excellent condition.
I have the Michelin LTX M/S tires, were they the factory stock at that time, caused these look very new. Do these give a smoother ride than most others available.
If you have the Michelins, which are great, it probably is an early 2001, sold in 2000...We have the Michelins on ours that was purchased in July of 2000...I think they changed then to the Bridgestones...Enjoy...
Yoeddy, did the dealer correct the headlight problem? My 2001 QX4 did the same thing, hit a small bump and the headlights went out. Played with the light switch set to "auto" and they came back on. Outside temp was about 4 above at the time.
When I leased my 02 Qx4, I was told by the salesman that it would only need oil changes before 100K miles - yet my services cost at least $100!! The 30K service is booked around $800. Don't believe everything you hear!
I would definately look into an extended warranty if buying one used and if you might go over the standard. Mine's had a number of problems (warped rotors, CD player replaced twice, all four door seals replaced, front roof rack assembly replaced)and I'm at less that 20K miles/20 months. Although Japanese vehicles are usually extremely reliable (not this one), repairs and parts are VERY expensive.
Oh, and I have a recurring problem with the auto headlights - they can't "see" that the sun's up in the winter! I have to turn the lights off manually so I can see the display
So far just a minor thing that was fixed under warrantee...Also got the update of the rear spring bump stops...Great service dept here...And as far as 30K stuff...You can figure out what you "Really" need and do that by yourself...
The Michelin tires have hailed up pretty well. I should get additional 5,000 to 7,500 miles before getting a new set.
Few problems, driver seat keeps moving slightly when turning the vehicle, and the check engine light comes on a lot of times after feeling the gas tank. I had the motor for the driver seat replaced twice by the dealer and the dealer also checked the check engine light 3 times.
Had that replaced on my 2001 also...The only problem I've had...Knock..Knock...
Your check engine light might be coming on because you do not tighten down the gas cap..Or if you leave cap off, will come on also...Just make sure it's on tight...Problem solved...
I have a 2003 QX4 with 245/65/17 Bridgestone Dueler Tires. They are not good in the snow. I would like to put either snow tires or all season/terrain tires on that would be better in the snow. It seems that I am limited in selection due to the tire size. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.
Thank you Jack44 for the reply. Yes, I saw your earlier post, but I was hoping if you could tell me if they are good in the snow? Also, I have seen different thoughts on tire pressure. I keep mine at 30psi. Is that incorrect? Thanks, again.
Jack-44: How often do you rotate the tires, I've got 41k on the vehicle, but not sure how much on the tires. Since I got it used, I can't tell if they are original.
Also what's this about getting an update for the rear spring bump stops. Since I'm just about where you are in mileage is there a problem I need to correct?
Talked to a Dings Plus (paintless dent removal) guy today and he said Nissan uses regular material while Infiniti uses European standard (higher quality); Toyota regular and Lexus higher same as Infiniti. But Acura and Honda use the same regular materials (cheap)...
I recently purchased a 2001 QX4 with around 38,000 miles. Overall, I love it, but I've been experiencing some squeaking that has been driving me crazy. The squeaking seems to be coming from the undercarriage and happens every time I go over large or small bumps. It is most noticeable with the radio and heat off. I have mentioned it to the dealership, but of course they could not replicate it. Other posts previously mentioned that it could be the tailgate or the spare, but I've tightened both and have even wiped the tailgate down with silicon spray. Squeak is still there. In addition, I have tried driving around with the tailgate open and still hear the squeaks. Before the QX4, I drove a 94 Pathfinder with 115,000 miles. The same squeaking noise used to plague the Pfinder, but not until the car had about 100k on it (it was almost expected). The QX4 hasn't even hit 40k and the squeaking has already started. I would appreciate if anyone could help me out or suggest a solution. If the squeaking is in fact coming from the welds, is there anything I could do about it? I still have a full factory warranty remaining, so hopefully I can put that to use.
I had two squeaking problems, both fixed by the dealership. First one was actually more of an rattle noise coming from the driver side seat belt buckler, that little red thing kept bouncing around making unwanted noise. The second was a squeaking noise coming from console/dash area, closer toward the passenger side front glass. My squeak actually was caused by passenger side sheetmetal just above the tires rubbing against the cars other components.
My service engine light went out for 4-hours and came back on. I think my gas cap has a problem. Other cars make vacumne air loss noise whenever you open the gas cap, but mine does not.
Driver seat moves left to right every time when I make a turn, looks like the motor is about to go out again. I'm only 168, so weight is not the issue. I will look at the problem this weekend.
Besides that everything is ok. The Xenon lights really work well.
QX4 forum is not so active now so I'd like to post something.
1) I noticed my front passenger side window glass moves side way a bit more than it should be when I open or close it. I can wiggle it side way too with my hands. Driver side does not do that. Will have dealer check it.
2) One rainy day at a straight traffic light start, in 2WD mode, the tires slipped for a fraction of a second then it went ahead. I only press the gas the normal way. Wonder if in AWD mode it would prevent that. My tires only got 18K miles so still new to me. I'd guess at corner start it'd be worse...
So far I love this SUV except I wish the overall noise level could be lower.
Jack44 and others, please ring in. We have a Burgundy Pearl (love her) purchased in Aug. 01 that now has 44,000+ miles. Went for an oil change today at the local Nissan dealer (Infiniti is an hour away) and they came back with a list of suggested repairs totaling over $700: new front brakes ($325, existing brakes are at 20%), brake system flush ($100), rear brake adjustment($45), drive belts ($123), intake service ($130), and engine and fuel conditioners ($22). Does any or all of this sound reasonable given age and mileage? Nissan will provide a loaner car. I will check in with Infiniti also, but I can only assume that will cost more.
RHSonnyBoy -- on your tire question, the Michelins are excellent in the snow.
I have a 2001 QX4 with 17 inch rims. I'm looking to replace my 245x65 tires like others. I've decided to go with Michelin Cross Terrains and looking at either 255x60 or 265x65. Any body know the width of 17 inch rims?
Rim width is probably 7"...Which would work on the 255/60's but not on the 265/65's...Also, you'd better make sure they won't rub inside the wheel well...
Can anyone help me with my 2001 QX4 CD changer. All my dics are not ejecting or playing and the display shows "Error 2" I heard lots of clicking noises during the last time the changer sucessfully move to the next CD, but now all dics are not accessible in the unit. Short of going to a dealer is there anything I can do to get the unit working again.

1. Will Infiniti void the warranty on these components?
2. If I extend the oil change interval from 3750 to 5000 miles will that void the warranty?
Thanks for any info.
