    HI. In zip code 33161. Trying to pick up a Q5 premium today for my 80-year-old mom. When I plug in the numbers that the dealers give me I am getting much lower monthly payments than what they are quoting me. Please help me decide if this is a good deal.

    36 month with 7500 miles annual.

    MSRP $53,420 (dealer #1) and $53,090 (dealer #2)
    Purchase Price $47,420 (dealer 1) and $46,590 (dealer 2)
    Residual is 56%
    MF .00112 (dealer 1) and .00202 (dealer 2)

    With dealer 1's numbers, I get a monthly payment of $538 (including 7% sales tax). With dealer 2's numbers, I get a monthly payment of $594.48 (incl 7% tax). But dealer 1 is quoting me a best and final of $640 (incl tax) with $1200 due at signing. And dealer 2 has given me a best and final of $580.56 (incl tax) with $2,580 due at signing.

    both dealers are marking up the MF, though dealer 1 is not quite as greedy.

    Next thing you need to find out are:

    1. What is specifically covered in the upfront cash ($1200 or $2580)
    2. What the adjusted cap cost is for these quotes - it's the selling price plus any taxes or fees that are not covered by the up front cash

    As this is FL, I'll guess there is a hefty dealer fee buried in there somewhere, which claws back some of the discount they are giving you.

    Dealer 2 is really marking up the MF, a lot.

    The number you need to calculate is the Adjusted CAP cost. That's the selling price, plus any fees that you aren't paying upfront. There is a lease acquisition fee. In FL, most dealers have a huge dealer fee, as well, then there are DMV charges (probably included in your $1200 drive-off)

    On Deal 1, I get $613/mo, including 7% sales tax. So, it seems you have a problem with your calculations. The rest of it can probably be explained with the paragraph above.

    Thank you! I'm paying all fees up front so that's why I didn't have an adjusted cap cost. But I guess I must be making a mistake somewhere else. And yes dealer 2 is in Miami proper with a customer base that is willing to pay higher margins so their markup is higher. Thanks for your help.

    $1200 upfront is likely only enough to pay the DMV fees and the first payment. Acquisition fee is $895 and every dealer in Florida seems to have a massive doc fee in the $700-$1200 range. Ask for the adjusted CAP cost and an itemization, and that should all become clear.
