I hate it when GM vechicles are advertised as better than Honda or Toyota or Nissan, etc. Advertise the GM vehicles as having so & so good quality and leave the competion out of it. Always bad mouthing the compation makes current customers that drive Honda, Toyota, Nissan etc. stay away from your salerooms. I've own Fords, Chryslers and currently have a Honda Odyssey. If you want me in your showroom "keep how better you are than........" out of it! Canadian from Ontario.
As a fellow Odyssey owner, the GM ads don't bother me in the least. In fact, I'd be disappointed if the domestic makers didn't try to convince us that they're better than the foreign competition. I trade my vehicles in very often, generally every other year, and I consider the Big Three every time. However, I haven't found another family vehicle that compares to the Odyssey (my fourth since 2001).
GM should try to make the argument that the Acadia, Enclave, Outlook, and Traverse are a better alternative. When I trade in my Odyssey next year, I'll be taking a very hard look at the Traverse and Acadia (especially since my wife will likely kill me if I stick her with another minivan!).
One thing that does bother me about the domestic makers is that prior to their recent difficulties, their prices were absurd. I bought my Mercedes C350 for about $5k less than the Cadillac CTS I really wanted to buy. Even the BMW 335 was less expensive. GM has to drop this dependency on rebates and offer lower total costs of ownership if they want to bring foreign car buyers back into the fold...
Great that you can trade every year. I am a retired senior so that's out of the question. Anyway it's good you did not buy the CTS as it has engine problems. I have a friend who is sorry he bought one. Two of my firends have MB M5. GM is talking about the VOLT but Honda says it's too soon for this techniology and Honda would not go there yet. Honda says the grandson? of the founder of Honda is taking over the company shortly.
Based on some previous posts it seems that 9-10k under msrp is in the realm of possibility for a 2008 SLT 4SA model. Does anyone have any recent experiences to share? I'll post mine once i pull the trigger. I'm in Ca.
After waiting for a price drop in the acadia family for over a year my husband and I took advantage of the other car dealers not receiving my tax money who actually need to sell their cars. Though the dealer was desperate, there was just no support from GM to allow him to sell the car to compete with comps from other makers. We liked the acadia from the start, and was always our first choice, but I just thought they were asking too much from the start. When we started looking over a year ago, salesmen just laughed when I said this, saying 'it's so popular, we can't keep them stocked' when I commented on its price. It's not like GM invested in a whole new system, they just don't get it that they can't make the same car 4 ways on the same chassis and make 30K in profit anymore. And I'm so mad that those high paid execitives are getting my money because they don't have any common business sense. Anyway, off my soapbox... We were not desperate for space, I just have two BIG dogs (newfoundland and st. bernard), and my little saab 9-3 is not quite the dog mobile, though they did love to ride in it. After considering price, what's included, consumer reports, edmunds, safety, etc., etc., we went with the Hyundai Santa Fe. Not a car I expected to like, but don't snob past the Hyundai dealership, it's not like the old hyundai. And that warrenty...can't beat that. My dealer also through in oil changes and Hyundai is practically giving those things away. It was cheaper for me to buy new than used.
If you're interested in that, you can look at my post in the prices paid in the Santa Fe section. Best of luck to you all, but if you're like me and are willing to wait for a better price, you may just want to move on and take advantage of dealers who actually need to move product for capital.
Have to admit, I am astonsihed by GM's seeming disinterest in actually moving these cars. They are plummeting in sales and their idea of incentives is to offer price cuts only to existing customers? Whatever. I agree with emmers, I reallly WANT to buy one of these cars (been looking at all 4 of the cars on this platform) but am just befuddled with their pricing strategy. I'd love to buy american but they really don't seem to be making that a reasonable choice.
I'm amazed that GM isn't pushing them more myself. I think I posted here earlier that I wanted to buy a CTS when I sold my BMW. The CTS would have cost me $5k more than the Mercedes I ended up buying.
I really love the Traverse and Acadia, but dealers are only offering $3-5k off. That puts the price higher than the MDX (including special financing), Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-9 and even lower end ML350s and RX350s.
I want to buy American, but given the higher purchase price AND lower resale value, how can I justify that?
Yep- i wanted to buy an American made car (Acadia) but they can't even come close to the Honda Pilots Leasing money factor (.0014) and incentives...So i had to go with Honda.
Yes it is. I would buy that out from underneath you if I knew where it was. Ha! Which brings me to my second point.........I will not buy a new Acadia from GM because it drives me absolutley nuts that I do not qualify for their rebates. Their marketing people have to be dumber than a box of hammers. Just dirt stupid. GM always gives voice that they would like to get folks like me back (I buy a NEW Toyota about every 3 to 4 years) but I can't bring myself to pay $6K more than someone else who simply qualifies because they're a new grad, err -ah hey! owns a 1999 Cavalier....is a Latvian mother of three....
I guess it's another Sequoia for me even though the Acadia fits me better this time - at least I know I'll have a level playing field when I get to the dealer.
I recently started shopping for a new Acadia in the New York Metro area (Long Island specifically), and I've seen that some people in this forum have gotten some pretty incredible deals. Right now GM is offering $2000 if you have a lease coming due before September, I get supplier pricing, and I'm going to take the special (1.9 for 72 mo.) financing instead of the $2250 they are also offering. Is $4000 off MSRP plus the financing the best deal I can expect to get at this time in this area, or can I do better? And if I can, how do I get them to go lower? Two different dealers refused to go lower than this, and let me walk. I was very surprised. I also belong to Costco, and AAA if this can help me any. It didn't seem to. Any info, advice or help is greatly appreciated.
Have a quote for a '09 SLT1 Acadia in TX. MSRP $39.7k - $100 cash - $2250 rebate = $35,027+ttl. Dealer claimed his Cost was $37,177 (before the cash & rebate). This has the leather, sunroofs, power outlets, power liftgate, trailer pkg. Seems like I can get an Acura MDX for appx the same... Comments, please...
It does not include the sunroof or the power outlets. The price seems to be much lower then the TMV price mentioned here. Anyone have any input on that price?
It seems if I added sunroof and power outlets and trailer package it would add another $1,718 which would make my total OTD $33,736. It looks like your price is before Tax, title and fees?
Just want to update. The dealer is now quoting me $29,500 OTD for the SLT 1 2009 Acadia. That includes the Visibility package and power liftgate.
I also got a quote for the SLT 2 with sunroof for $31,750 OTD. It seems the differences between the two cars are not worth the extra $2,250 (especially since I don't need the sunroof). Any input on these prices?
This seems like a good deal, and better than mine. Would you mind sharing the the dealership name, city and state? Is this in TX or close? If you are close, I wonder if they would do better if they got 2 sales...
The dealership is Hendrick GMC in Durham NC. I picked up the SLT 1 today for the $29,500 out the door. Frankly I am not sure how they were able to do it since none of the other dealers were able to come within $3,000 of that. If you are willing to come to NC you probably can come probably get the SLT 2 for the $31,750.
In my area they either offered 0% financing or the cash rebates. In my case the rebates were close to $9,000 which was a better deal then the 0%. I got 3.99% from a credit union.
MSRP- $37,140.00 Discount- ($4,878.35) Sales Price $32,294.65 Taxes- $967.85 New Tag $75.00 NC Inspection $13.60 Admin Fee $398.00 Total Sales Price $33,750.00 Rebate ($4,250.00) Final Price $29,500.00
The car was manufactured in September 2008 and therefore had a lower MSRP then it would have now since GMC raised prices in November. I think the comparative MSRP if you priced the car with these features would be somewhat over $38,000.
MSRP $43,845 Consumer Reports Dealer Price Est. $38,400 Paid $38,600 ($40,600 less $2,000 lease incentive)
I figure the dealer probably cleared ~$2,000 on the deal, which seems fair since he has to deliver to me out of state.
If you can find an Acadia with a qualified VIN (mine was not eligible), there is a "March Clean Sweep Overage" cash-to-dealer incentive of $1,500. Ask the dealer if he has any VINs that qualify. Otherwise, go to gmprograminfo, call the 800 number and ask if your VIN qualifies. There are also $2,250 of incentives OR 0% financing. I took the 0%. But if you paid cash on a qualified VIN, are in a lease that is expiring soon, and negotiate a little harder than I did, you could probably walk out the door with something similar at $34,000. That's almost $10,000 less than MSRP.

Recently I test drove a 2009 Acadia SLT-2. It was great to drive, smooth, quiet, great acceleration and all of the accesories that you could ever want. Then I tried the second row seating, It had the captains chairs(seven passenger) and a small rear fold down seat. I am about about 5'11" and my knees and feet were so cramped in this second row that I was immediately turned off by this vehicle. For a large suv the seating in the rear is awful. My advice to any one who is interested in the Acadia or the Enclave is to try the rear seating before you purchase it. For a family car with children I am sure it would be no problem, but if you intend to haul adults check this feature out before you buy.
The second row seating is adjustable. I'm 6'1" with long legs and can adjust that for plenty of room. I think I can adjust the second row about halfway back and get it where I would be confortable in either the second or third row...though the third row is a little lsmaller for foot room.
I have an 08 Saturn Outlook with second row captains chairs. On a golf trip last year, Harvey rode in the second row for 500 miles one way..all 6' 4" 230 lbs and was comfortable.
I think the adjustment release is on the side of the seat. Shame on the sales person giving you the demo for not showing you this.
Did u push the captains chairs back? I just bought a slt1 and I have the front seat all the way back and the second row captains back and I fit and I'm not cramped. O I'm 6'4 so not sure what your talking bout. The 3rd row is cramped unless someone sits in the middle btween the captain chairs
I just purchased an acadia from jack giambovlo GMC in york pa. When I arrived home (2 hrs away) I noticed the state inspection and emissions stickers were due in nov (in 6 months!!). When I let the sales manager know, she basically told me, sorry theres nothing they could do, that they inspect the cars when they come in. Thats bullsh&%! i just spent 45k at their dealer and they wont give me a full year on the state emission and inspection. what terrible customer service, I hope thy're one of the 2600 dealers who get shut down...
I've got an internet offer from the dealer,2009 ACADIA FWD with SLT2 package, with Navgation , 3 row seat, HID headlight, rear camera, power liftgate . $38,895 plus taxes. What do you think? thanks
I'm planning on purchasing a Chicago-based Acadia this weekend. With it being end of month, and an large over supply of Acadia's in this market, I'm hearing (from a friend's father who owns a GMC dealership in downstate IN), that my final price before taxes should be "significantly" under Dealer/Factory Invoice, and could be $10K under MSRP. So for the $46,290 MSRP AWD SLT2 I test drove, I'm expecting to pay about $36,000.
Does this sound about right? Any other rules of thumb that might help me take advantage of this unprecidented market opportunity?
$10off MSRP is do able on paper, if you can get all the programs and incentives to line up, but I have found if very difficult to align all the stars and make it happen,

GM has a generous incentive system. You did well.
$10K off MSRP may be a stretch if you cannot use the lease incentive, but $8K off is likely do able.
Any $8K off deals out there?
