Is there a rule of thumb for how many points the 7500 rebate is adding to the residual I'm sure it depends on the msrp? Lower msrp would be a higher bump to the residual. Between 6 and 8pts 7.5pts on a 100k msrp.

Today I was quoted a truck with 78% residual. I've been trying to make sense of it the. The MF was a bit inflated so maybe this was done to offset the quoted residual.

No - what we've heard from other members is that the $7500 federal incentive is added to the calculated residual.

The MF markup is just dealer greed, if you have top tier credit.

This makes sense. So if you can get a big discount then the Residual is calculated off the reduced price and making it possible to have a higher residual value. I guess this make sense. The banks set the residual value. The vehicle is worth the same at the end of a lease regardless of what you pay for it. So a 75k value on a 100k car is 75% If you only pay 90k then the residual has to be 83%. The bank is saying that the car is now worth 82.5k so the same logic as above applies.

No - the residual is always calculated against the MSRP.

Using your numbers, the $7500 incentive is added to the calculated residual ($75,000), arriving at the $82,500 the bank says it will be worth at the end of the lease.

If they calculated the residual off the reduced price, then the residual would be lower and your payment would be higher.

Thankfully, that isn't how it works
