    I got my first quote from a dealer and I was surprised when he mentioned that the $7500 federal tax credit only applies to purchases, not leases. Is this true?!

    The bank owns the vehicle on a lease, not you. Rather than pass along the credit as a rebate, it seems they've chosen to increase the residual, instead.
