...new record for the month. Honda CR-V sales, up 55.3 percent to 14,596 set a new all-time record....

I concur with Rob...I've had an 02 EX Auto for about 4 mths now and seems to have plenty of zip...zips right up to 80 before I realize how fast I'm going...hauled the wife and 2 kids from Bay Area to Tahoe just fine.. like he said, it's pretty light for SUV and 160 ponies is not to shabby (and the 4cyl i-vtec is nice)...seems like better performance than my heavier 190hp V6 Grand Cherokee (and much better mpg also)

My previous over-pressure concern was that the CRV was shipped at a cold pressure that exceeded the tire's recommended limit, a definite no-no.
Try going to 35 and see if you're comfortable.
Good Luck.
VARMINT,GATORGREG--I need a lesson in incorporating pictures from my digital camera to these posts. So far, I've only been able to email. Help!
Read something interesting this weekend - the new Accord is getting the 2.4l engine, but peak torque is 161 ft-lbs at 4500 rpm.
Sounds close, but not really, the CR-V makes an extra foot-pound of torque at a significant 900 rpm lower point.
So why does the Accord get a high revver, without even more power to benefit from? Why not use the same state of tune from the CR-V?

Surround the whole thing with angle brackets like these: <>
Juice - I noticed that, too. It could be gearing, fuel economy, differences in the exhaust systems, or any number of things. I'm sure we can guess about it, but I don't have an answer.
Strange. American like low-end torque and the Accord sells mainstream buyers.

They can afford to reduce the performance a little, and increase the mileage, since the performance buyers will be selecting the V6, especially since it will be available with the manual.
Mileage mostly city with the AC going is about 20.5. No highway trips yet. AC is much better than my 94 Accord, just hope I am as happy with it after 8 years. That's it for now.

The CR-V is mine, all mine. This past week, we traded in my wife's S-10 for a used '99 Suburban. Beautiful vehicle really; silver with a grey leather interior. Big...really big. But with 2.9 kids (wife is due in two weeks) and a desire to pick up a decent camper next year, the 'burb makes sense. It had less than 40k on the clock and I got it for half of what they cost new. Sometimes you gotta love depreciation. Stepping from the burb to the V is a world of difference. It makes the V feel like a sports car.
Living at both ends of the spectrum now.
Rob
Juice - Yes, the 6 speed is for the coupe. There are rumors of an Acura TSX sports sedan, which would likely get a manual tranny (I hope!).
Beatfarmer - Early congrats on the family addition.
Those 'burbs are massive. Bet you'll fill it up with stuff, too.
TSX = RSX sedan, right? Should be interesting.

Don't quote me on this, but I think it's something like a reskinned Accord Type R based on the new Accord. It'll be direct competition for the IS300. It's all just rumors right now.
I asked the Service Advisor to make sure they didn't include the spare in the wheel rotation, since I plan to upgrade FOUR tires when the Duelers need replacing. I also complained to him about the fact that the driver's sun visor falls down, instead of hugging the windshield glass.
Finally, I said that I had recently been getting a very strong burning smell from the left rear wheel, and that, often, the wheel was too hot to touch.
He said they would check it out.
I have the bill in front of me.

Nice country, this Canada. Eh?
Who knows, someone out there might drop the 6 speed into the CRV for fun
varmint and beatfarmer, I still use my old camcorder, but you're right, I've also moved into the digital age
I expected something smaller. Maybe they'll do like Lexus and Infiniti - have one sporty entry and one luxury entry (IS/ES and I/G).
I don't think the V6 Accord has ever offered a manual.

Regarding the new (2003) Accord: I have read several media reports that the 2003 Accord Coupe will be available with a 6-speed manual with the V6 sometime in spring of 2003. That's the first time the V6 has been coupled with a manual in the Accord. The sedan does not get the same option.
I also heard the Acura TSX would be based on the smaller European Accord, rather than the N.A. Accord, thus differentiating it from the larger TL. Then the TL is due for a redesign as a 2004 model. Hopefully both the TSX and the TL will be available with a manual.
Back to CR-Vs...
Jfavour - Is the visor falling off, or just flopping down in front of you?
If it's just flopping down, try this. Sometimes the visor will work its way off the end of the rod that holds it up. They get loose with use. I had this happen to my old Mazda and just shoved it back into place.
Try a 2002 5 speed. With a lot more power and shorter gearing, the difference is like night and day. I also found the first year autos a bit lacking in power, even the '98 5 speeds were only adequate.
Now that's not the case, they're even peppy.
If yours is that bad, I'd consider a throttle body and FI service. Our 626 was hesitating and after that service it was like new.

Has anyone experienced this range of noises? It used to be just the first application of brakes made a noise, now it is like driving a klunker. Was wondering if tire pressure had any effect on this - I've been running at 29/30 psi. Or if the lubrication put on by the factory has already started to wear thin.
Check my post #8526
Has anyone else experienced the burning of brake pads? Or is it just me?
Gee, I hate to sound like such a complainer, but recently my new '02 EX has not acted new - only 6700 miles.
Anyone else have this issue with their CRV and if so how was it resolved? Any responses would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
MK
crvdude - this brake clank/clunk appears to be a common 'problem' with these new cr-v's. I think mine is getting worse - it will clunk the first time, but lately it has been doing it at other times also.
This is not what I expected from Honda. And things like this can be next to impossible to get a dealer to fix unless there are many many cr-v's that start exhibiting this and Honda issues a TSB.
in one direction then the first stop after that they shift the other direction. It is no big deal to me since my Acura CL did it too.We have to nitpick it don't we or visit other forums and see what real problems people have with other brands.
So far 5000 miles and loving it,but would love it more with 25 more horspower.
I did hear about the ABS controller, and even printed out the threads from various forums. Had a good service tech who looked into it for me. Basically, if my understanding is correct... the ABS controller will make a "clicking" noise because it rubs or hangs from it's bracket location, due to heat. The other symptom with the controller is the ABS or Brake lights coming on. Who knows though? Hopefully this will be an easy fix for you. I tell ya though, please let me know if your dealer comes up with the problem and fix. I took mine to a very good Honda dealer here in Denver (Ralph Schomp), and was certainly disappointed that they could not offer me a viable solution. Good luck brother....

Compared to my '93 Suzuki, the CR-V drives like a dream. Very peppy, great acceleration, good power on hills, extremely smooth but firm ride (with tires set at 32 psi), and very quiet. Fine car. I find the power door locks, including tailgate, very confusing and inconvenient, but then again, I like manual everything.
Was very surprised (and appalled) about the spare key issue. Getting even one spare electronic key will cost anywhere from $30 - $80 at local dealers and key shops -- they don't even have the equipment yet for '02s. Guess I'll be calling AAA to jimmy my door if I goof up and lock both my keys inside!
I will be putting either a Yakima or Thule roof rack on shortly -- don't expect problems other than increased wind noise, which I don't mind.
Will post experiences after a few thousand miles.
The pads can be scuffed by the dealer, or some say if you go quickly in reverse and slam the brakes it helps, just make sure you have plenty of space.
The sways may be squeeking, so spray some white lithium grease on them now and every time you rotate your tires.
Good news is if you decide you can't stand it and you want to sell, Edmunds confirms you'll at least have good resale.

That thick black bar is my sway bar (18mm in this case), and yours should look similar. There should be two rubber bushings that hold it on its track, sort of, but allow it to slide side-to-side. Look closely and you'll notice the white grease marks on the metal bar, to give you an idea just how much they move (half inch each way in my case).
Hot weather and rain washes the grease away and it should be re-applied once in a while. If not you have metal sliding against rubber, a perfect recipe for annoying squeeking noises. Like nails on a chalk board.
Get a spray can, and then every time you rotate the tires (access is then easy), give it a little squirt. Do not use WD40 because it's oil based and can cause the rubber bushings to deteriorate.
-juice
PS If you've upgraded to urethane bushings, they are even noisier, so you have to be even more judicious about lubing the sways
when the car stops and there happen to be cement barriers aside. If there is no barrier, the sound is hard to detect. I tried to put my Accord in the same location, but didn't hear any clicking sound.
So i think it is unique to the new CRV. What exactly is this sound? Can somebody explain?
Thanks.
Not sure what you mean by cement barriers - where are you parking?
