yeah, marketing likes to do that with unobtainium colors... They still showed the Solar yellow in lots of ads after it was discontinued, though, now it's back. Amber Fire was shown in the Wrangler brochure into 2002 when it was unavailable as a color choice.
Doesn't seem like rocket science to keep that stuff in sync.
I am having a problem getting my transmission to shift into 1st gear. I haven't experienced any problems with any other gears. If I let the clutch almost all the way out it usually will go into first gear. A few people have told me this is the Syncro?? going out. I am not sure what a syncro is, but I am starting to research it to figure out what this is. Does anyone have any other thoughts???
A first gear syncromesh problem usually only shows when trying to change down into first while moving. It's more likely to be a problem with the hydraulics, or possibly a sticking clutch.
I've been checking periodically, and the Wrangelr 2004 pricing info is now up on Edmunds New Vehicle sites.
Previous posts are correct, about pricing of side steps, and CD being standard. I was happy to see the heavy duty axle is still listed as part of the 30' wheel package.
Yep, that AAS package, if that's what it is still called, is a SUPER value. I would recommend that option package to anyone. It gets you the thirty inch tires, gas shocks, the Ravine wheels (used to be Canyons in that package), and the Dana 44 for $850. It's a steal!
If you want some other type of tire, just trade in those factory GSA's. They bring a real nice trade in allowance, if you go to the right tire store. Also, it was true with the Canyons, and probably will be with the Ravines, that you can sell those puppies for some serious money! I got $350 for my five Canyons, and I know I could have held out for more. Mine had been on the Jeep a good while and they had some surface scratches from wheelin' too. A brand new set of Ravines with no scratches could bring $600 I'll bet.
You could pay for the Dana 44 by selling the tires and wheels from the AAS package, if you wanted to, assuming it was really the Dana 44 you were after, and your plans were for different wheels and tires anyway.
Hey yesterday i just bought a 2002 sport with 5500 miles on it. I was supposed to get the 98 sahara but it sold 5 minutes before i got there, this was almost 2 weeks ago. But yesterday i bought the 2002, and i was wondering if i overpayed. I payed 16500, its a 5 speed, has the 30 inch tires, cd player, a/c, tow package, and is a soft top. Just concerned if i overpayed. Edmunds pricing was saying around 15500. Also does the warranty carry over, because the person i bought it from said she thinks it wont carry over. thanks for any input.
Kellys Blue Book values it at $16505 for a private party sale. I'm sure you can find prices both higher and lower if you check some of the other guides. If you roam the country I'm sure you'll find similar Jeeps for less money, and some for more too.
Sounds like you got a nice vehicle at a reasonable price, and nobody twisted your arm to buy it. Don't spoil your enjoyment of your new Wrangler wondering if you 'overpaid'. New or pre-owned, you'll always find you could have bought it cheaper after the fact.
Enjoy your new Wrangler, feel comfortable with the protection of the warranty, and don't keep mulling over the price you paid. It'll eat away at you if you do, and it'll sour what should be a fun experience.
Congrats on the Jeep. As others have said, a vehicle's worth is in the eye of the person who is forking over the money for it. I love my Wrangler. I didn't make the best deal in the world (500 over invoice then allowed myself to be talked into extras, and this on an unwind with 700 miles on it). I'd do it again in a heartbeat - I love my Noble Black Steed and it has been worth every penny over the past 5 years.
On the other hand, I got a good deal on the Taco ($100 over invoice) and I hate it. To me it isn't worth the money I paid for it.
So take that lovely new (for you) Wrangler out on a dirt road out in the middle of no where on some mountain top, stop and smell the flowers and grass (if there are any this time of year), gaze over the distant lands below you and be thankful you own a vehicle that can get you there. Do that, and I guarantee it will be worth anything you paid for it!
I just got back from CO. Ran some trails in the Silverton area and then did Spring Creek and some other trail. Had a great time and I hope to go back up there in a few weeks. I will post some pics when I get them. You want to meet me out there Tom?
Care to say what all problems you have had with your Jeep? Sounds like a lot more than usual.
I am against extended warranties. I bought one and the company went under. I am out my money and I don't have an extended warranty. I won't ever buy one again on anything. I will just put the cash in a money market account and it will be there if I need it. If I am having too many problems I will get rid of it. I would buy the extended warranty through the manufacturer if you do buy one.
Thanks everybody, feel a lot more comfortable about my purchase. Picking her up tomorrow morning. Can't wait!!! Going to be a scary ride home though, cause im not the best stick driver and im driving from lond island to jersey. Should be alright though (hopefully). Well i'll keep ya posted on how i like it. Talk to you all soon.
The 04 seats are the same as the 03. The 03 changed to the higher back which sits lower. Interior colors the same for 03 & 04. For those upset with Inca Gold being discontinued a Lime Green will be available for 04. Mopar tubular side steps and front bumper are now available direct from the factory and on the Jeep. CD is now standard.
Hiya everybody, I was just reading through the posts about the difference in the seats. I had a 97'Sahara before I got the 03'. Thinking about it,I really can't notice any difference in the height off the floor, but I do notice that they are a little more comfortable and have a high back. The rear seat is more convienient because of the latch being on top, instead of having to reach down for the latch on the side. Also a nice feature is the carpeted finish on the sides so they wont wear and get dirty as quick.
Well picked her up today. The drive from long island to jersey was crazy. Got stuck in manhatten for 3 hours because of a broken down car in the holland tunnel. Pretty tiring on my legs. She drive great, and your right tsjay, it was simple to catch on to the 5 speed. It's a shame i got to leave her because of a week trip im taking, but it feels good to finally look out in my driveway and see it. Can't wait to take it off-roading, see how she handles the mud. Anyways about to take her for a little spin. Seeya later..
So, does he get a free Jeep mod, or anything, Steve? Being the Member Spotlight is such a rewarding (and important) experience! What makes it better is that he's only about the third one!
Glad ya got that Jeep safely home! I told ya the clutch is very user friendly on the Jeeps, but the lower gearing helps a lot too. The gearing lets ya come out with the clutch a little faster than you should without killing the engine. Of course the good low end torque contributes too.
NO WAY I COULD GO OUT OF TOWN AFTER JUST GETTING A JEEP! (unless I took her with me). BUMMER! BUMMER! BUMMER!
Tomorrow is the big day! I am going to try to get Thelma Jane through Buttpucker Gulch at Turkey Bay.
Here's the result of our first and only attempt to date:
I had to use the winch to get me past that point back in April, when we made our first attempt.
You can see that the rear end slipped down that very steep gully wall, and that made Thelma's weight in the rear end rest on her gas tank skid or the rear bumper. This kept her back tires from getting enough traction. You can also see where a front locker would have probably made the difference. The right front tire is spinning in mid air, and the left front tire is not trying to pull... it's just sitting there. A locker would have made that left front tire pull, even though the right front was in the air.
I still don't have a front locker, but I'm gonna give it another shot anyway. Maybe I can keep the back end up on that wall this time. I'll just take a little different line.
So, we'll give it another shot tomorrow. I have a wheelin' bud who is gonna spot for me and take pics.
Hope this isn't going to be a case of a Redneck's last words... "Hey, ya'll, watch iss."
Ross Allen will be on his leash and have someome baby sitting him. I do NOT allow him to be in the Jeep when the going gets that rough.
Wish me luck! I will post the results tomorrow night.
Whoever wrote that did a good job of summing up what old Tom is all about.
From bug wiper to off roadin' fool... that's me.
thanks!
Tom
Have you hugged your Jeep today?
P.S. I just noticed that I had not updated the link to Thelma Jane's web page in my profile. I dumped AOL and went with Earthlink, so I had to update the address for Thelma's page. It's fixed now.
I remembered when I was going to send you some video of my first CO trip since you like CO a good amount. I was hoping to get you into wheeling. But between me being so much of a procrastinator and because of the way you were/are with keeping it clean, I thought there was no way you would ever wheel. Now after seeing you, I think anybody has the potential to get into wheeling. So can we plan a trip out to CO soon or what?
I think the redneck's last words are, "Hold my beer and watch this."
Billy If you are going to do mud, get mud tires. Make a big difference.
WOW.. memeber SPOTLIGHT 1.5 million folks on edmunds and you get members spotlight. Hope there isnt gonna be a recall on that decision. U deserve it PAL. U planning on running for governor now?
Hey TEX.. Remeber this guy wil NEVER take TAZZ offroad.. NO way..
Well, Peeps, we didn't make it. Does this spot look familiar???
Yep, same place we got to before. That's as far as we got this time too.
This time, though, I was able to back out of there. Unfortunately, you guys know what happens when I back up. Once, I almost dropped off in a ditch and would have turned over if I had (remember the pic with Thelma's right front tire hanging over the edge of a ditch?). Then about three weeks ago, I backed into a tree and bent Thelma's tub corner when I gave up on a tough climb and had to back down. Well, today, Thelma's trail damage got damaged in Buttpucker Gulch. The tree episode pushed in the tub corner, but did not damage the paint. We took care of that today, though.
I think I need to get some kind of lock out for reverse! That gear sure gets me in trouble.
Somehow I don't think the old wet paper towel works as well on scratches as it does on bug guts.
I'll get out the touch up paint after Thelma Jane gets her hand washing tomorrow. Guess it's good that I didn't rush out and have that body damage fixed, huh??? Wouldn't THAT have been something?
I had just gotten back out of Buttpucker Gulch this afternoon when a solo Jeep came up the main trail, right by Buttpucker Gulch.
It turned out that it was a guy from Mt. Vernon, Illinois, who was wheelin' for the first time, except for some playing around in mud. He had his wife and little boy with him. I guess the boy was about six years old or thereabouts.
Gary did a super job, and it was just amazing that he was willing to try the stuff he did today on his first real wheelin' trip. His wife and son got out when he was getting ready to do some of the "crazy" stuff, but that gal never griped or complained one bit about Gary doing that stuff. She was enjoying the wheelin' too!
I think I had the privelege of seeing an entire family get hooked on the Jeepin' thing today! I love to see whole families into this stuff.
If you want to see some pics, go to itsajeep.org and then to the photo gallery there. Click on the blue lower case letters "tsjay." On the next page, in the blue border at the top, click on tsjay again. This brings up the list of all my albums there. You will find many that are entitled "Turkey Bay" and then a date. That is the case with today's pics, so take a look.
Somebody needs to take bama on a trail ride. Then he would see how much fun it is and he would take Tazz out.
Tom, Just get some corner guards. It will cover up the damage and won't have to worry about them anymore.
Just got back from the National meet and greet. There were a lot of people there. They even had a ramp. I thought several people were going to dump it over. Definetly some nice rigs out there. There must of been atleast 50.
couple of coats of touch up paint and then use this product to cut down the overlap onto the factory paint. I used this on the Jeep with the Mopar touch up paint and results were excellent. Bigger scratches might not look as great, but better than leaving it to rust.
If it does rust, go find a "3M Spot Sanding Pen" at the auto parts store. Glass fibres that can clean a small area without damaging the surrounding paint.
Sorry you didn't make it through the gulley yesterday, but we still salute our Mayor!
One of these days, I'm gonna make it through that gully, but it might be after I get a front locker.
Oh well, we had fun trying.
I might check out that paint repair kit, Trey. Heck, there's sure no use in paying a body shop to fix that place, is there? Not if I'm gonna keep taking Thelma Jane out on the trails, which, of course, I am.
Sure wish you could come up and go to Turkey Bay with me sometime.
I didn't know we even had such a thing in Edmunds as "member spotlight."
I appreciate being selected, but we have lots of folks in here who deserve recognition. Heck we ALL do, if trying to help others is the main factor in the selection process. We all try to help each other, and that's why this is such a cool place to hang out.
Hey TEX, I would love to go, but as a passenger, not taking TAZZ. This car has gotta last me FOREVER. Its hard enough coming up with montly payment, Insurance & lately gas. I'm sorry, I cant see taking a $27,000 vehicle into the woods just to get sctrached & dirty. I cant do it. Besides, maybe later on I can but, for now i cant find the time to go. Working 6 days a week, also taking care of 2 young kids.
Hey, we rib you, but, believe me, I understand why you don't want that Jeep messed up. Remember, I was just as picky about my vehicles in the past as you are about Tazz. I was probably even WORSE.
Also, I was just thinking even before reading your post just now that you just don't have time to really get into wheelin' with the hours you work and with baby sitting when you get off work.
You keep old Tazz lookin' good and someday get yourself an old Jeep to wheel with. I hope you will be able to get some time for the sport too, cause it's something your whole family could do together and have a blast.
It really warms my heart down at Turkey Bay when I see whole families enjoying their off roading together, whether it is in a Jeep or on dirt bikes or four wheelers.
Wow! A whole day and no one has posted anything. I guess everyone is on vacation enjoying their Wranglers except me. I've been slaving away in cool air conditioning behind a computer screen. While I can't complain, I'd rather be out in the heat on some mountain top. Wish I were in Colorado right now...
