    Hey guys, I just did a search for where to get an FSM but couldn't find any links that worked. The techauthority at DC website doesn't work. Heck I even did a search for it on the Jeep site and all the links it gave were down. I saw the sites that let you access it but I would rather have a hard copy. Any ideas or am I making a trip out to the dealer?

    I figure now that I've got Amy I'm going to start doing more of the work myself. Done some before but never a lot.

    On two different occasions I have driven 8.5 hours each way to get in just one day of wheelin' at Superlift ORV Park in Hot Springs, AR. Also, I have driven up to Badlands in Attica, IN, which is a 6.5 hour drive for me, to get in one day of wheelin'.

    So, you might as well be as crazy as I am. :)

    Just come on down for a short trip before you do the "big one." Consider it a scouting mission.

    I think we'll take you up on your offer later this spring. Maybe we can get a bunch of folks from this topic to get together for a weekend, or at least for a couple of days.

    Just tried the website and it worked fine for me. The 2004 FSM is $120, the '03 is $110, and the '03 CD is $90.

    Jim (mullins87) and I are REALLY close to TB, but I wonder how many others here are within something like a five or six hour drive? Of course, you would be welcome if you live 2000 miles away, but you might not want to drive that far. :)

    Well, I had a first this morning.

    It was actually cold in my Wrangler on the way to work. It was -3 degrees (F) and about -20 below with windchill.

    I am sure glad I have a hard top. I figure it doesn't get much colder than that. It is a small price to pay to be chilled during a cold snap to know first hand why Jeeps are so much fun!

    I had a good laugh when it was recently about -22F around here. The top of the hard top would emanate cold - chilling the top of my head while the rest was nice and toasty. Talk about keeping one's head cool... ;-)

    Looks like we've got more snow in the not-so-distant forecast. Yay!

    I live in Indianapolis, probably about a 4 or 5 hour trip to Turkey Bay. I'd love to come down and wheel with everyone - count me in if I can work out the details! My baby is pretty much stock. I did get new tires this Thanksgiving, but they are ATs since the majority of my driving is on-road. (I'd love to change that as soon as possible!) I did get front tow hooks for Christmas, so I am getting closer to a wheelin' machine. I'd love to wheel more, but my Jeep is my primary vehicle. Once that changes in a couple of years, I'm going to be ready for mods big time! I've been thinking about a nice summer wheelin' and camping trip. Sounds like a lot of fun!

    Hope you can make it, if we can really make this happen. I don't see why we shouldn't be able to do this, do you???? Why NOT have a get together with as many of us from this group in attendance as we can get???

    Wow, I'd love to. Sure would be easier if I was living out in Edmonton, KY rather than Edmonton, AB!! Looked at an online map calculator and it comes up with something like 2050 miles, or about 36 hours... Plus I could visit a friend out in Lexington! Ah well, maybe another year (or so).

    The website that Jeep linked to was different and didn't work. $120, guess I'm going to see how I do this weekend at work (Bartending= good money with good crowds).

    Bill: I feel you with the cold. It's not quite that bad here in MD, low 20's now but wind chill is around 0-5. Love my knit hat to keep my head warm.

    Is 1338.78 miles a "reasonable distance"?

    Mapquest said it's only 21 hours and 17 minutes from my house to Turkey Bay. It's that extra 17 minutes that is the worst.

    20 degrees! That's a Heat Wave!

    Looks like it's going to be a cold one in Foxboro Mass tomorrow night for the AFC playoffs. High for the day is supposed to be 22, low at night of 6! you know it's cold when you can almost count the temp on one hand.

    I think a "scouting" trip is in order. My wife just called me to let me know that the brown truck showed up with some very heavy boxes(Think Kilby skids Rangler nets).

    I will probably be good to go in a couple of weeks when this is all installed.It's now just a matter of negotiating the Honey do list for a solo weekend.

    ...First a Jeep...then the Mod's....then a solo trip away for a weekend....

    It would be very cool to hook up with everybody!

    I would be a GOOD rider & CB operator with someone at TB! Sound like a good idea to me.
    probably couldnt do it in 2004..maybe 2005.

    At last, a chance to test drive a Jeep. Not ready to buy, but I figure if I don't like it hten I can move on and if I do, well then the hunt is on!

    I'd love to be there sooner, Tom, but it'll be a while. With Yahoo maps showing 1991.6 (with 1213.4 mi on I-40East), it will be a while.

    Hopefully something will happen with a relocation. I wouldn't be able to run my daughter's Jeep and I know my wife won't let me use the WJ (Grand Cherokee), so I'll be like Bamatazz and run the CB and be a guide for crawling. :)

    Someday soon.... (I hope).

    Y'all have a great weekend. I'm headed up to Mammoth Mountain again for some more skiing - 10-12 foot base and the snowboard grandprix up there tomorrow!

    Your Jeep will do just fine at TB. I have a YJ that's pretty much stock. The only changes made to it are a 2" body lift and 31" AT's. TB is a very forgiving place to wheel. There are bypasses around most all of the obstacles.

    I would love to help Tom be a "host" to this event. Heck, maybe this could turn into an annual thing.

    Hmmm - mapquest says its only 2023 miles and 31 hours, 9 minutes. We haven't done any long road trips in a long time. Could be tempting! You don't suppose Paul could convoy with us in his JGC - then he could off-road in my stock Noble Black Steed. Unfortunately, most of my vacation time is tied up, probably until fall. But after that might be a possibility (and my other half didn't say no when I mentioned it to him just now). Any other West Coasters interested in a convoy trip?

    Mtngal, If I had the time to do it this year, I'd love to... but I am pretty well tied up for at least a year. Too many hobbies, too many plans and (as might be expected) never enough time and $$$.

    Glen, a whole new tranny?!? Wow. At least you didn't have to fight them which is nice.

    Took Buffy for a drive today. I love driving her around... and the off road capabilities are just icing on the cake. Actually noticed quite a few folks checking out my sweet ride today, I think I am developing a perma-grin from every time I go for a drive. Happily, I have someone looking at the HMS Unsellable (aka T-bird) tomorrow - let's hope they buy it!

    yeah 20's was nice, high for tomorrow is 18. It's a shame that the bar I work in a big tent. Yes I said tent, we go open air in the summer, and it holds in very little heat.

    I heard that they saying the field temp for tomorrow is going to be something like 5 degrees, I don't think I could run let alone catch or throw a ball in that.

    Hah. We finally got rid of it! Why in the world would I want it back?? Sadly, another bout of frigid temperatures is coming my way within a few days. You've got my sympathies for the time being as today we are to bask in up to +5C temperatures!

    Too cold for this southern boy. I know its cold everywhere when its only get to 37 here for out high.
     In July when its 100 I will want this 37 back.

    I agree with ya its gonna be a good game tonight. I hope my Titans can pull a victory, buts with the cold & our injuries it will be a tough task.

    I'm about 6 months from the end of my warranty period (3 years), and I'm afraid everything's going start going wrong after my "time is up!" I have very low miles on my Sahara - just hit 12,000 miles last week. I'm starting to think I should take my vehicle in for some sort of inspection real soon to make sure everything is okay. Does anyone have any suggestions for specific things I should have a mechanic look for??

    I know I'm going to have them check the seal where the heater housing goes through the firewall to make sure I don't have any leaks there. To date, I have had no warranty issues at all. Sometimes I have noticed a very, very slight sticking when I'm letting up on the clutch - just at the very end when it's almost all the way up. I'll have them check that out.

    I didn't consider buying the extended warranty when I bought it. Most people I know say it's not worth the money. I'm just starting to feel a little nervous about the whole thing.

    I wish I only had 12,000 miles on my Wrangler when it was 3 years old - by that time mine was approaching 80,000 miles, I think. For that matter, my Tacoma was exactly 3 years old in September, so it is 3 years and 3 months old and it has 142,000 miles on it...

    I wouldn't be nervous about being out of warranty - mine is getting close to 6 years old (bought it in April - I can't believe it has been that long ago!) and has 114,000 miles on the odometer. I had bought an extended warranty but never used it - my first problem was the exhaust manifold and we replaced it when it was over 100,000 miles, the second one was the dash gauges (a problem with certain models in '98). Otherwise it has been pretty trouble-free.
    I would guess yours is a 2001 or later, so the manifold is not an issue.

    I'm not a mechanic and freely admit to not knowing what I'm talking about, but (like everyone else) I have uninformed opinions. I would get them to check your air conditioning system (mine needs to be serviced/recharged or whatever, but I just don't seem to have any money in the summer when I'm thinking about it)and look for any seeping from any of the other seals. Maybe change the tranny fluid, though I think it is early mileage-wise to do it. Hopefully the guys here will help out more with specific things.

    If it's not making any odd noises, the only thing I can think to have them check is the rear mail seal on the engine. Mine started showing signs it would need replacing around 12k. If you haven't already had them flush all your fluids, it's probably worth doing that now given you've got 3 years (but low miles) on everything.

    Keep to the scheduled factory service reccomendations as called out in the manual and you will have a vehicle that will run for a very long time.The Sahara has a 4.0l six that with regular preventative maintainence should last well over 100k miles.(My friends has almost 200k and it is still going strong!)

    Also, If you do much off-roading through water make sure you change the fluids in your tranny,xfer case and diffs regularly.

    If you live in an area that has snow/ice and salt is used, make sure that you also spray off the underside of your Jeep or it will rust a lot sooner than you think.

    It seems like days 9 and 10 were just about the hardest days so far! Today is day 11, and I'm sure hoping for some relief!

    I just chew regular chewing gum, not the Nicorette. I bought those Commit Lozenges and used one at the end of the first day. Haven't used any since. I should be over the nicotine addiction by now, so it's just the "habit" I am battling now, I guess.

    Thanks again to all of you for your support. I hope I don't let you guys (and MYSELF, of course) down.

    Hey! Great to hear from you again, Gal! Where ya been hiding?

    Gal, I wouldn't worry about an extended warranty on that Jeep. I think you would know it by now if you had a lemon, and if you DON'T have a lemon, then it should be good for well over 100K miles. Geez, 100 K miles at the rate you are putting them on that Jeep would carry you well past the time that they would take your drivers license and make you quit driving anyway. :)

    Wow, did we ever have some horrendous weather yesterday. After the recent cold snap we suddenly had freezing rain... haven't ever seen that many sliding cars and accidents in such a short time span, it was like a skating rink. I had to take care of a few things and Buffy had her first ice adventures. Luckily no mishaps, although a few close calls were had (only one of which would have involved my hitting someone). Overall I am *very* pleased with how she handled though... that was some scary driving.

    Tom, hang in there big guy. It's the habit that can getcha, if you let down your guard you might find yourself inadvertently going for a smoke before you even realize it...

    Has anyone checked out the new Jeep Rescue (concept vehicle). It was featured at the Detroit auto show. It looks like a cross between a wrangler and an H2. Does anyone know if they will be producing this vehicle. It is very, very cool looking!

    Andrew - I have noticed that while 4x4 makes a difference, it isn't perfect on icy roads. We don't often get much ice - it is usually snow or nothing - and each time I start thinking about snow tires. Since we only get 2 or at the most 3 icy days a year, it isn't worth it, but you might want to think about adding them if you haven't already. Otherwise, AT tires work pretty well in snow.

    ctsgirl_2004 - Unfortunately all I've seen is the photos, and I find it hard to judge something that way. I'd have to see in "in the flesh" to really make a decision, but from the photos I thought it might sell pretty well. Just don't want them it use it to replace the current Wrangler - I love them just the way they are!

    Rsholland saw one briefly at the Detroit show last week. He was impressed I think, and not just by its size, but he was pressed for time and I don't think he got a look inside. I'll see if he can pop in with a quickie assessment.

    I have been lurking around in here for years now, and finally bought a Wrangler this past Friday. I bought a used '03. But here is the kicker, the Jeep was only a little over a month old and the guy who bought it traded it in. So this guy took the hit for depreciation, and I benefited from that in my cost. My Wrangler is Intense Blue with black top and interior, has the 30" wheel package along with locking differential, seven speaker with CD, privacy glass, and a 5-speed. I really love this thing. It took me a couple of days to get used to the seating and handling of my new Jeep, but I'm cool with everything now. Can't wait to take it out 4 wheeling. Does anybody here know of any good places in Central PA? As far as mods to my Jeep, I think I'm going to put the side steps on it, better access for my kids, door entry guards, and slush mats.

    As far as side steps go, they can be a liability on the trail. Like getting torn off and causing body damage. If you are going to off-road on tougher trails, what about getting nerf bars instead? They don't stick out so far and they will still provide a step in for us vertically challenged folk. Something to think about anyway...

    Whew, a lot of posts to read. I haven't read here in a while.

    Congratulations to all new Wrangler owners! I'm sure you will enjoy them until they die. (And some of you may have no other choice, financially... :), like Tom.)

    mtngal- Don't worry about the Rescue replacing the Wrangler. It's too big!!! That thing, while it could make a great Jeep, is based on a full size frame!

    Congrats!

    Take a look at the Husky mats. They have a couple different models to choose from. I purchased the ones that have a large lip on them and they work great with all the snow here outside of Chicago.

    I also reccomend getting a good set of nerf bars in lieu of steps if you plan on doing any off roading. My jeep came with steps and I have removed them and put on a set of Olympic's.

    If you have Kids you might want to check out Rangler side nets or their complete system as an added measure of protection.

    The Mod's you can do are endless.

    Go Colts! Didn't spend much time in here over this weekend, so I didn't post that before the game. I'm not a huge sports fan, but it is nice to see the home team do really well for a change. Usually Colts fans are somewhat lukewarm - that has changed this year! I'm hoping they make it to the Super Bowl - it has been a while!
    Turkey Bay sounds fun. My brother sold the land that I used to go wheelin' on, so I haven't had much chance to use 4 wheel drive. It's good to hear that Turkey Bay has plenty of trails for stock Jeeps. It looks like I will have to remain stock for a year or two. Tom and everyone, let me know when you might be thinking of doing a Town-Hall wheelin' trip. I've got a job that gives me lots of vacation, so a long weekend is easy for me to do, pretty much any time. I could maybe even make it there for a scouting trip!

    Congrats on your new TJ. I wanted to buy the OEM slush mats for my Sahara, but the local dealer(who it seems never has anything in stock but filters) would have to order them. Instead I bought a set of WeatherTech( http://weathertech.com/store/vehsearch.asp?item_group_id=3&ma- ke_id=27&year_no=2003&veh_id=327&veh_opt_choice_id=0&- amp;f_opt_id=clear ) mats from a local shop. The front set fits so well that they look like a custom set. The rear set needed a bit of trimming, but they fit fine.

    I don't know of any wheelin areas in central PA, but I just happen to know of one in western Ky, if you are interested. :)

    I guess it would be a pretty long drive for ya, but I would love to see ya come down to wheel with me at Turkey Bay.

    You Wrangler Town Hall people are great. I think that is part of the reason I bought my Wrangler. Any way, Tom I might just take you up on the Turkey Bay offer. Drosketer, yes I meant the limited slip. I believe that Jeep calls it a rear trak-lok differential.

    Anyone strap a car seat into the back seat of their Wrangler? If so, how much of a pain in the butt is it to get in and out of?

    On a semi-related note, is there a passenger airbag shut-off switch on the Wrangler?
