You’re a good friend, @graphicguy. Seems like an unfortunate way to spend one’s time. Funny thing about this is that my experience is constant thoughts and negative attitudes about being ill tend to make it a self-fulfilling prophecy. He keeps it up, he may indeed get his wish.
I dunno? I do what I can.
He's always been a curmudgeon. We used to flip a coin to see who was going to ride with him in the golf cart when he played with us. No one wanted to because of his chronic complaining.
I'm not painting a flattering picture of him. But, I think he's been this way for a long while. Therapy would help him, but he refuses help. I don't think there's anything physically wrong with him. He can still shoot in the mid 80s on a golf course. So, he's not too debilitated.
What to do?
His wife is just a dear soul. How he ended up with her is a mystery to us all. I'm never one to tell someone they should leave their spouse. But, if ever there was a reason, this is it. I can't imagine hearing his constant bitching every waking hour.
She has a sister in St Louis. I suggested she visit her for a week or so, just to get away for a while. I told her I'd check in on her husband to make sure he's OK. Or, she can hire a nurse to come see if he's OK. I don't know why he can't take care of himself, but she seems to think he can't. I believe he's convinced her he can't.
Some people just want to complain and some who are suffering do so in silence. If you remember last spring I was struck by a car which really screwed up my back but I try not to mention it. Even my wife has to drag it out of me.
That bring said may I ask my poster friends some advice? Since the accident i have gone through physical therapy and a few procedures on my back. I have had some success with them but I still have issues with the back. I really think that I am having minimal success with the recent procedures and I really believe that any further procedures will do much more for me. Do you think that I should go through with another procedure or should I just end it and deal with what pain I have? I mean it is a big problem but not big enough to keep me from doing most things, justci have to manage the pain.
What say you?
One of the guys I work with had a serious back injury at his previous job which made him 100% disabled. He has had multiple back surgeries which didn’t really help. He would say if the initial surgery didn’t work don’t bother chasing relief that way.
Of course that’s a brick layers opinion and should be taken for what it’s worth.

Depends on what the back issues are.
You should really get a second opinion from a respected neurosurgeon in your area and mull it over.
It is hard to read your medical history and see your MRI from where I am seated and I am no where near an expert anyway 😇
I measured my garage door. 18' x 8'. Big honker. But that extra 2' across makes it so much easier to get 2 cars in and out while having plenty of room around them.

———————————————— I know what you mean about an 18 foot door. That’s what we had when we built our house in SC in 1992. Nice thing about a wide door like that is Mrs. j didn’t whack any mirrors for the 5 years we lived there.
I remember asking my builder to install a 20 footer since there was enough room but he told me that size would put me into a commercial style door and the panels would be flat vs. the raised panel style which I did want. So I stayed with the 18 foot job.

I've been feeling poorly since late last year when they rushed me to the hospital for being incoherent. Think my wife kind of panicked a bit as after a couple of days, I was feeling better. But, they admitted me anyways and put me on antibiotics through an i.v. for a good couple of days. Between my spinal issues and the vertigo, seem to have more bad days then good, but just deal with it. One's mental attitude really does play a large role in things. I did let my kids know that it's harder for me to travel to see them and maybe it's time for them to come see us when they can. Not sure how much longer I'll keep my part time gig, but my new schedule seems to be easier on my body. And having those days off in between really has helped. Usually stay in when I'm n/s and it's nice to talk with others when I am at work. Do think one's mental state can help a lot by staying positive and trying to keep upbeat with life. Sort of "making lemonade from lemons" outlook which works for me.

My wife and daughter want so bad to see the Eras tour. I looked at the Toronto show and it’s about 8K for 4 nosebleed seats. That’s about what we are paying for our cruise next year…..
Vocals and arrangements spot on and the whole production is like nothing I’ve ever seen.
My single ticket (with an unrestricted view, but about as far away from the stage as one can be), purchased as a resale a couple of days before, was around $1,600 with fees. Agree with you on the production quality, it was pretty amazing. WAY too people-y for my tastes, though, some of whom were obnoxious. Chaining arms together so your party of ten can get through a single file barricade in one go should be a shooting offense, as should using a halo light on top of your phone in a darkened venue.
I flew back this morning. Walked around the Quarter for about an hour trying to find a place to eat dinner last night, well after that night's concertgoers would have entered the arena, and the restaurants and bars were still packed. Went back to Fives on Jackson Square, thinking they had a tomahawk pork chop dish, but it wasn't on the menu, I can't have their oysters, and there wasn't really anything else on the menu (maybe a salad?). I went back to an old favorite, Backspace Bar, which had been packed earlier in the afternoon, but miraculously, had cleared out and felt like it was a normal Saturday night.
Yeah from what I’ve read people get a little over the top for the event.
I’ve never been to New Orleans … someday have to take my wife for a long weekend.

I don't know if this helps but might be worth thinking about. I stopped for a yellow light and a big garbage truck plowed into us, Aug 16th, 2016, at 4:45 p.m.. The 2015 E350 was a write-off. I had a sore neck for about 4 years afterwards, and MrsD100 had a bit of a balance problem though some meds helped quite a bit. I thought we could sue the other driver for up to 3 years after the accident. We asked our lawyer who was making our wills and he said take it to one of those giant lawyer firms who specialize in accidents....like Morgan and Morgan, they have the resources to fight like tigers. In Canada the equivalent firm is Diamond and Diamond. We had an appointment and they were very nice, but since we didn't have a lot of physio appointments, or numerous medical visits they wouldn't take the case. We just wanted to try and do our usual activities and not become whining hypochondriacs. So, if you are planning on suing be sure to get lots of physio and medical appointments. I'd suggest seeing a few of the best specialists available, but be skeptical, and careful about what you are being told. Some things do heal over time, some don't, you probably have to know what the injury is to ascertain whether it will heal with time.

Cafe du Monde was pretty cool. I ate too many beignets though.
When we lived in New Orleans, I attended elementary and junior high, the school had an annual field trip to the French Quarter for a history lesson. We always visited Cafe du Monde for beignets and chocolate milk. Great fun and memories. And no, we were not allowed to go on Bourbon St.

@kyfdx - that place has been on my list for a while, but every time I've been by there, there was a line out the door. Li'l Dizzy's Cafe in Treme is outstanding soul food. Gianna's has great Italian food, although I didn't make it there on this trip. I had low expectations for Vampire Cafe, but I visited there on my previous trip, and the food and drinks are actually really good, despite the gimmicky theme.
I try to grab a muffuletta at a different place on each visit. This time, I ordered a quarter of one from Napoleon House, along with a side of red beans and rice. I got up from the bar to wash my hands, and my food was there by the time I got back. It was great!
The only really disappointing place I've eaten there is the Ruby Slipper Cafe, which has a few locations. It is usually a long waitlist for mediocre breakfast/brunch food.

Went to school in New Orleans for four years. Went to Cafe du Monde many many times especially after our fraternity meetings. Lived on campus my first year, then in the frat house for a couple and finally shared a camelback upstairs apartment senior year. Enjoyed living in the Garden District especially during Mardi Gras as we lived between St. Charles and Magazine St. Archie Manning and his family lived a few doors away from us as it turned out. My favorite place was Sunday brunch at Brennan's and for graduation, the folks took us to Commanders Palace among some other great places. Doubt we'll ever make it back there but maybe one day...never say never!

I did contact a lawyer afterwards because I sort of knew I was going to have issues and wanted to protect myself. I have heard horror stories of people contacting the insurance companies on their own and getting a payout and finding out later they had serious issues. Now they insurance company won't cover it because the case was settled and their health insurance won't cover it due to it being an accident that would be covered under a separate insurance.
Also the lawyer was able to get me into see a pain specialist well before I could get to see my regular doctor.

Actually the lawyer said it happens. A woman lost her husband. She met a guy and remarried after about a year. She didn't think to change her will and after a fairly short time she became ill and died, and he inherited all of her savings and property...he was now the husband with rights to her property. She had two daughters who the lawyer said she would have wanted the money to go to. All they could do was to ask the guy to be reasonable, but the odds of that working out aren't great.

Wow, you don’t have a lot of trust in your wife!
I didn't want to get too technical but my wife has 2 grown adult children, and I have one. It gets tricky. If I go first, I would be happy to leave whatever is left to my wife if the children belonged to both, but she could lose it all to The Boy Toy or give it to her children - I don't believe that would happen but all kinds of things could happen. This way if I go first my daughter gets a percentage of the value of any savings, and a percentage of the value of the house.......if one of us is left that one could live in a less expensive house. It goes the other way too if I am the one left.
No plan is perfect, but you try to cover all the bases. Or, as one friend's lawyer told him, don't worry about it, you won't be around to think about it anyway.

That's actually what happened to my daughter-in-law and her brother.
Her dad died and her mother married a guy a few years later. Then she died shortly after, and everything went to the "stranger" that she and her brother barely knew.
Our laser does color....but we need the inkjet to make copies and for scanning!
The HP multi-function printers available at Costco do all of that, and these are very user friendly. The cost is reasonable, too, especially if you wait until they go on sale with a $100 "instant rebate," which is not uncommon. I want to say about $400 normally or $300 on discount. We used ours for nearly two years (with one high school homeschooler) before we needed new toner, and that was using the original "demo" cartridges that come with the printer.
Thanks! That's good to hear. I have "starter" toner in mine (and yes, snagged it on sale at Costco for $100 off, so good deal). I'm hoping the toner lasts a while.
I do volunteer work in my 'burg. So, I'm printing out meeting agendas and spreadsheets with it. Then, there's my personal use for things like scanning docs to attach to emails and printing out miscellaneous household stuff. I probably use the printer 5 out of 7 days/week.
Will double check, but I think Costco warrants it for 3 years.
Now, I have to figure out what to do with my inkjet printer. Contacted a couple of recycling places who said they don't take printers.

Contacteds f a couple of recycling places who said they don't take printers.
Best Buy will take printers for recycling. I just did it last week with my old printer.
Tales from Electric Avenue; staying in Jackson, NH (picture a covered bridge that you've no doubt seen a picture of. If not seen/crossed yourselves). The Inn has one NACS and one CCS charger; after the EQS left for dinner, I charged to full in ~2 hours.
Next morning headed north to hike and enjoy the Mt. Washington and environs views. Temp in Jackson, 41 degrees. 12.5 predominately uphill miles later, and now 30 degrees, the battery was running on empty. Left wth 24 miles estimated range, arrived w/2 remaining. But, after almost plugging in to a pay for play charging station (egads! What is the world coming to!), I discovered across the street two free chargers.
So, I plugged in, hiked in beautiful, fresh coat of snow, easy trail for ~1:45; 4.5 miles. Arrived again to a full tank of charge. Temp in the 40s, a bit of uphill which lowered the DTE from 20 to 14 miles. But then 3 miles of downhill and regen. DTE rose to 20 miles again, electric guage never went below 7/8.
~20 miles later arrived in N. Conway so the wife could....wait for it... shop! And shop she did. I, again, found free charging stations and plugged in. Later, drove to dinner and then finally back to the hot tub, with our room attached.
So, drove 46 miles all on free electricity yesterday! Now that's making America great again. Trying to save gas until I can find a BJs to fill up "cheaply."

btw....we spent about 2 hours making up our wills at the lawyers office, we started to leave, and then I said I have a question for you. What if I go first, and MrsD100 finds some young toyboy who woos her into marriage or something, and he takes hold of all her money, and nothing gets left for the 3 kids? So we sat back down and made up a trust agreement, the kids get a good portion upon my demise. I asked if I could have a clause that prevented some boyfriend from getting my E400 but he said he couldn't do that.
Did you enjoy sleeping on the couch after that?
Actually the lawyer said it happens. A woman lost her husband. She met a guy and remarried after about a year. She didn't think to change her will and after a fairly short time she became ill and died, and he inherited all of her savings and property...he was now the husband with rights to her property. She had two daughters who the lawyer said she would have wanted the money to go to. All they could do was to ask the guy to be reasonable, but the odds of that working out aren't great.
That's actually what happened to my daughter-in-law and her brother.
Her dad died and her mother married a guy a few years later. Then she died shortly after, and everything went to the "stranger" that she and her brother barely knew.
Or, when I took the course to teach driving to High School students the teacher told us about a young guy who was married and his wife was named beneficiary of his insurance policy. He left his wife and went off with another women 2 years later. They had a bitter divorce. Then he was in a motorcycle accident and died, but he forgot or didn't think to change his insurance policy to the new girlfriend....and his ex-wife ended up getting a substantial amount of money....and his new girlfriend must have been very upset as she got nothing. Maybe neither one went to his grave site
Speaking of bjs we went on Saturday. Could barely get in to the lot because the driveway was backed up with cars waiting g in line for gas. Must have been 30+. I dont get it because unless you have the BJs top tier charge card the Mobil station around the corner was just about the same price with no line. Will people really sit in their car idling for half an hour to save $1-$2 on gas? Seems like a lousy ROI to me!
I have found the more expensive lasers are much cheaper to operate in the long run. I have used Brother L5850 DW 's for over 10 years , though I believe a slightly one has replaced it. They used to cost $319 on sale and $499 recently. The most recent got 2600 copies on the "starter toner". The large toner costs about $105 and is rated for 8000 copies. My last one got a little over 10,000 copies
The $250 copiers use toners that cost about $80 and only get 3,000 copies.
I use more pages than most of you guys, around 25,000 per year.
We had that issue on an estate my firm handled. Dude got divorced many, many years ago, did not update the beneficiary on his 401k. He died, and the ex-wife got the contents of that account.

I know what you mean about an 18 foot door.

The HP multi-function printers available at Costco do all of that, and these are very user friendly.

Exactly....those are the reasons it is good to get legal help. The other guys insurance company could try investigating you, make sure you're not picking up any 200 pound weights or things like that. Or offer you $1000 to sign off, etc.
