If Nissan did the 0% thing I would trade in my 00 for an 02 in a heartbeat.
What engine RPMs is the SE turning at 60 mph with the 5 speed? Is it high? For comparison current SUV is about 1600 RPMs at 60 mph. I was always trying to shift my last Nissan (Frontier) again when it was in 5th gear. That got old real fast.

The noise is certainly not overbearing, just would like to quiet things down a bit. Overall, the Q is a great vehicle!
Acker Wheels: http://www.ackerwheels.com
or Victoria Tire & wheel: http://www.victoriatire.com -Cheapest at $125 per wheel.
What was the biggest tire has any one installed on their 2001 PF?. And if so,did they have upgrade the shocks, brakes etc, etc?.
Thanks in advance.

When does Nissan renovate the Pathfinder?? this version has been around forever...
Considering that the previous Pathfinder had an 8-year life span, who knows?

1. Occaisonally when you start the car there will be a loud gurggling/rushing water sound for 15 seconds-2 minutes. Sometimes it's extremely loud and shakes the entire car. At first I thought it was coming from the engine but I don't know now, it sounds like it's coming from all around. I THINK it might only be doing this when there is over half a tank of gas in the vehicle, but I'm not positive.
2. Sometimes when you turn the vehicle off there is a fairly loud buzzing sound coming from the fuel pump. It will go on and on for hours unless you open the gas cap.
3. Until the vehicle has been warmed up for at least 15 minutes, the air/heat makes a really loud humming type of a sound. Even after it has been warmed up, when the climate control is on the lowest fan setting, there is an annoying but subtle constant humming sound coming from the passenger foot area. This sound goes away if you turn the fan setting to two or higher.
4. Whenever I go over a bump, there is a hollow sounding pop coming from somewhere around the bottom of the driver door. It's very annoying and I can't figure out where it's coming from.
5. When coming to a stop upon gradual deceleration, there is a clunk from either the front or rear of the vehicle right as the car is about to come to a complete stop. Sometimes it's barely noticable and other times it's loud.
I simply don't have time to screw around with a dealer on these things, especially since they don't happen all the time. Anybody have any thoughts on any of these things?

This product sounds like "bedliner in a can". I searched around and I see at least one guy (another Canadian) uses it as a bumper coating. Might make a nice bumper step coating? 3M and Mar-Hyde make similar sounding products that look available in the states. Thanks for the tip.

5-spd
abc246,
We bought our '01 5-spd SE a year ago this past June and have been nothing but impressed. With just over 35k, the 250 ponies smoke up the Colorado mountain passes even with the new larger tires we just put on.

pondfull5,
We just put 265/70R16's a little over a month ago. They rub a bit when backing up. (only when the wheel is cranked to the left) but not bad.

While I can (and have) bought cars from distant dealers, the idea of relying on service from a local dealer who adds 2k in padding to the MSRP makes me wonder why kind of nasty tricks are waiting in the service department. Too bad, but the PF is out of the running.
Substantial discount may not have been the most appropriate term. I was offered $1K below invoice for a 2002 Pathfinder, which I considered to be substantial for this early in the new model sales cycle. This was offered before I negotiated my trade-in price which was equal to the "Private Sale" price from the Edmunds trade-in calculator.
I purchased our '01 a month after they were released in '00. because of the "newness" and new engine, some dealers here in Denver were charging a $2,500 "market adjustment cost". When I went in to talk numbers with my salesman, I told him right off the bat that any extra BS fees would be deal breakers. He never mentioned the $2,500, and it never showed on any paperwork.
I ended up getting the Pathy for about $28,500-sticker had been over $30,250 (SE 5-spd. moonroof, mats, in-cabin filter) .
Ask them, they might drop it. Sometimes it's more important to make the sale at the end of the month than to be greedy.
Incidentally, the most fun season for stop light racing in Canada is coming up...WINTER. Very few combinations are better than 240 hp, AWD and M+S tires!! Have fun.

Unfortunately, there are no Nissan dealers near me. My insurance company has suggested taking my car to the body shop of a Honda dealer near my house. Does anyone know if it matters whether I take my car to a Nissan dealer, or is it just important to take it to a reputable shop?
Thanks in advance.
I'm very interested in buying in Windsor and bringing it to Detroit if the numbers work out.
I have a 99 SE. Under the rear seats, when you flip up the bottoms to flatten out the seat backs, there's a nice finished carpet piece held in place by some flat plastic grommet-type things -- so when you flip the seat backs down the bolts etc. don't come into contact with the seats as they are covered up by the carpet. On the new 2002 LE, under the seats, there's just a loose piece of black rubber that doesn't completely cover the jack etc. so when the seat backs are flipped down flat there's maybe a chance that the bolt heads etc. could mar or scratch the leather seats. Is the 2002 LE I looked at missing the carpet or would someone else let me know what is under their back seat bottoms?
Also, are there any posts on how to change the in cabin microfilter? I also posted out on the QX4 board as it seems like the process would be the same. Thanks for any help that can be provided.
Also, went to the Seattle Auto Show, and noticed that the QX4 has a cool little bungee-like retractable cord that attaches to the side of the glove box through some little holes in the top piece and the side of the door. It keeps the glove box from dropping right down when you open it. After looking at the Pathfinder glove box door, it has the holes in both places, so it looks like a trip to the Infiniti parts store might just pick up a nice little trick feature. Are there any other items that could be swapped over? Would the nice round analog clock fit over into the same space on the pathfinder dash?
Each trip to the dealer, the diagnoises has been on error code 048. They replaced an O2 intake valve, sensors, and have to wait almost a month for another part-ECM board and the harness and wiring. Will keep you posted when all is done.
IN DEC 2001 I INTEND TO MAKE A TRIP FROM NYC TO CANADA. I AM LOOKING TO PURCHASE A PATH LE AND POSSIBLY A FRONTIER SC-V6 4X4
I HAVE ALREADY SECURED THE FUNDS HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU SOON. CAN YOU E MAIL ME TOUDLELOU@AOL
THANKS AGAIN ! GEORGE D
Windsor is just across the river and, surely, you can pick up a copy of the local newspaper right there in Detroit. Better yet, it doesn't take more than 2 minutes to drive across the Ambassador Bridge (not during rush hour!).
The main question will be the cost of duties and taxes when you bring your Pathfinder back into the U.S.

That was before 9/11/01. Delays at the border are pretty long these days. I'm still debating to buy or lease.
I would definatly go to Windsor if I buy. Since I won't keep any vehicle forever, I would need to have the spedo/odo changed over for future resale. I'm just looking at getting my ducks in a row in order to look at the economics of going that route.
This would be an extra vehicle, primarily for use in winter and getting stuff out to the boat during the season.
I'm still debating on the vehicle. I can get Ford "A" plan but with all the complaints on the new Explorer I would just be trading off a less expensive vehicle for more aggravation.
I have narrowed things down on paper to the Pathfinder and the Highlander. Now I need to go drive these things and get more info from the boards.
Any other ideas in this price range that I should be looking at?
