    Thanks RV65!

I was able to pair once I got home and sat in the van myself. I'm not sure if the van doesn't like a woman's voice (hard to believe, since my wife says the "woman in the van" is her BFF), or if my wife just wasn't hitting the voice recognition but before each input.

It's working now, so wifey is happy, and at the end of the day, that's all that matters :-)

Sadly the iphone has this problem with the HFP system. Too bad Honda can't make it like Sync. That would be cool. When ford's deal goes up then Honda should take advantage of it or try to work with Johnson Controls to improve this system.

It understands both Male and Female voices. It's just that you weren't doing it correctly. Infact the voice prompts are female. There is a male option but navi version 4.62 took that out. She may have it the wrong buttons. The phone button works the bluetooth and the talk does the other ones. The manual is a great source of this info. You can pair up to 7 phones but can only use 1 at a time.

    Hi,

Anyone know which one is the darker leather? the Olive or the Gray?

It seems like the olive shade is different from the 07 line up.

The salesman says one thing one day, then reversed himself today. Honda website is no help. they doctored the interior photo in photoshop.
In the "interior page", the shade seems to be the same, but in the built page, the olive is darker.
    huh????

in the 08 small brochure, they seems to be the same. SO, has anyone seen both in person????

and it's the olive a better choice for the slate metallic? i am afraid the olive is too green?? as seen from honda's website.

    Thanks a lot!!

I just traded in my 2005 slate green with the gray leather for a 2007 Nimbus Gray Metalic with the olive leather. I had a 2004 with the gray leather too.

The gray is a darker color than the oliver to answer your question. The color sample for the oliver from the brochure is not even close. It looks a lot darker than in real life. Go to a Honda dealer and ask them to show you two Odyssey with the gray and oliver leather color, and see the different for yourself.

Personally, I prefer the gray leather for the Nimbus Gray, but Honda only offers the olive color for the Nimbus Gray. And my Honda dealer only has the Nimbus Gray with the E&N in stock, and they offered me a great deal I could not refuse.

When I bought my 2005 slate green, the Honda dealer has two in stock, one with grey leather, and the other with oliver leather. I think both leather color look good with the slate green. Either color is a good choice, but the grey color will hold out better in the long term.

The Insurance Institute awarded the 2008 Odyssey its "Top Safety Pick". Just wondering what features were added as earlier models never qualified. thx.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
None - the safety features have been the same since the 2005 model.
  • enp14enp14 Member Posts: 16
    If you go to http://www.iihs.org/ratings/head_restraints/headrestraints.aspx?honda
you will see that the rear crash rating/head restraints results have changed w/ the 2008 model.
  • mfletou1mfletou1 Member Posts: 508
2008 added active head restraints, which was a criteria that IIHS used.

Notice that the 2007 Ody was not a top pick, even though everything else was identical. Active head restraints is what pushed it over the top.

(I'm still likely to buy a 2007, but it is what it is).

Thanks! That makes sense. I called Honda four times and they claim that nothing was changed regarding safety.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
    I stand corrected - thanks.

It's hard to believe such a piddling thing (from a cost to the manufacturer standpoint) can make such a dramatic difference.

Very nice running board addon. No plans for the 05-07 since they dont have the hardware to mount it. Unless anybody is willing to buy the hardware from the 08 to retrofit on their 05-07. Can't install splash guards with it.

Look at the "Accessory Bluetooth HandsFreeLink" item on this page: http://www.collegehillshonda.com/honda_odyssey_accessories/2008_honda_odyssey_ac- cessories.htm

It is Bluetooth for non-Touring 2008 Odysseys. It is due out in December.
  • rv65rv65 Member Posts: 1,076
That kit is compatible with the 05-07, but the unit might not be a perfect color match for the interior. Hope this helps.

For those of you that have the 2008 Touring, the sales person told me that you can tell the vehicle to change radio channels, adjust the temperature, etc, using voice command, kind of like the TL, is that true? Can someone verify for me? Thanks!

I test drove a 07 EX-L with NAV+RES and tried the voice recognition features, so I don't see why this feature wouldn't be available on a newer model and one trim level higher! Search around here for the 08 User Manual (PDF). Also, there are several 08 Touring owners posting their experiences at odyclub.com/forums and I'm sure you'll find more valuable information there.

I have an 08 Touring. Because the 08 Touring has the Nav system it can do all the things you describe.

Just bought an 08 and the rear view mirror vibrates constantly. I've tried adjusting it and had no luck. I'm taking it to the dealer to have it looked at. Has anyone else had this problem?

Has anyone seen the 08 Touring with the black leather interior? Any pros/cons between black or gray leather. Having a hard time deciding.
  • luvsmyhondaluvsmyhonda Member Posts: 2
Was wondering if anyone has a touring with black leather interior? Is the whole interior black or just the seats and dash and consoles? Saw an 06 on Ebay and it looked like the floor and other parts of the car were gray. Has this changed on the 08's or are parts of the car grey also. Just wondering.
  • sandiegoguysandiegoguy Member Posts: 27
Okay. I just leased a 2008 touring and after 10-15 minutes in the leather seats both my back and my wifes back either hurt or go numb. I drove several neighbors around pretending to just wanting to show off the car and they all though the seats were uncomfortable. Yes the drivers lumbar was adjusted to it's lowest setting and well the passenger seat doesn't have an adjustment. Since I have not seen this complaint posted before perhaps it is a feature of the new 08's. Somewhere I saw that active head restraints have been added. Since the technology involves major seat modifications perhaps Honda has messed up their seat geometry. Frankly I can't imagine taking the vehicle on any long trips. After 20 minutes we were both wrestling around just to get rid of the aches and numbness.

My previous car was an 03 Honda Pilot EXL. Those seats were great.

Boy this is a real disappointment. I will take it to the dealer in the morning but I think they are going to look at me like I'm crazy.

Meanwhile my advice is when you consider buying an 08 you test drive it for at least 15 minutes and don't be distracted by the tour of the bells and whistles. Keep your mind on the cars handling and your comfort. Maybe I have a fluke but please be safe and check it out before you buy.

So far I love everything else. I can live with the fact the auto tilt side view mirrors really don't return to the original position after backing up. That feature can be disabled. Car drives like a dream. But the seats feel like a nightmare.

anyone knows if the second raw PlusOne seat in 2008 Odyssey Touring is stowable in the storage compartment?
  • qs84qs84 Member Posts: 10
It is in the 05 EX-L, but it does not accommodate the lazy susan feature simultaneously.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
Yes its stowable since the lazy susan has been deleted for 2008 (or did they take it out in 2007?)
  • rv65rv65 Member Posts: 1,076
08 is when they got rid of it.

Has anyone programmed the time delay for turning off the headlights on a 2008 Odyssey? When I program mine nothing happens. No matter what I have it set to, 15, 30, or 60 seconds when I turn off the ignition the headlights turn off. Can someone describe how it is supposed to work?
  • user_1999user_1999 Member Posts: 12
Just bought the 2008 Odyssey Touring. I couldn't put the Second PlusOne seat in to the compartment.

I went to the dealer he also couldn't do it. Can someone please confirm that the Second raw PlusOne seat is stowable.?

May be he didn't know how to do it.

    Thanks,

Per other read only posting on too much lumbar support at the least setting. Yes, took to car upolstery shop and had them cut the lumbar shape out of the foam cushening and that did the job.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
try putting it in horizontally (perpendicular to the sliding doors) into the compartment and see if that helps; I remember vaguely seeing my local dealer do that as a demonstration on a few '07s..

Either that or the shape of the compartment has changed for 2008..
  • bobber1bobber1 Member Posts: 217
It's a tight fit. I remember seeing the dealer do it before we bought our 2007. I just keep mine in my house and use the compartment for storing emergency stuff.

You sure you aren't looking at the DRLs?

Just making sure you have your headlamps on, and aren't referring to the Running Lights.

how good is the 08 odyssey when passing on highways with a full compliment of adult passengers and luggage in terms of acceleration and stability? it is very good with two people. also i think it is more stable but less fast in passing when compared with the toyota sienna. Any toughts?

Can anyone provide data on your gas mileage experiences with the 2008 Honda. 2007s seem to be pretty bad. How about the next generation VCM? Thanks.

    Hi,
I am considering a 08 Odyssey EXL with RES. We test drove it tonight and i really liked it. We are also considering the 08 Sienna XLE. This trim level in Toyota is the same as the Odyssey except for this 8th seat, and to add it on we have to go down one trim level and add in after-market leather, dvd, etc. Do I really need this seat? We have 3 kids and having the 8th seat sounds attactive, but is it worth it???
  • angelchicagoangelchicago Member Posts: 38
I went from van (olds silh) that only had 7 seats to now have Ody with 8 seats. The change to 8 seats is a double edge sword. The 8th seat comes in handy as we now find ourselves traveling with our 3 kids (age 5,7, 8) plus friends, and our kids love to be lined up in one row. The minus of having an 8th seat, more for the parents then the kids, is with the 8th seat in place you lose the luxury of being able to "easily" walk to the 3rd row which I personally found to be a major plus in van over SUV.

If I had to make the choice again I would base it on age of my kids. If your oldest is less then 5 years old then stick with the 7 rows as small kids translates into more trips to the third row to pick up stuff they dropped, plug in seat belt, feed them, etc. If your youngest is more then 5 years old get the 8th seat as they will have or soon develop the skills necessary to get to the 3rd row seat on their own a bit cumberson but probably an adventure for them, buckle up, and they will soon have many more friend invites where 3rd row seat comes in handy.

yay! that is so helpful! we have 3 girls 6mos., 2 and 3. Right now we have an SUV and with the double stroller in back it's just now going to cut it anymore. We are leasing it, so it's perfect timing to get another car. Your right, we need to access the kids, so the 8th seat may just have to stay in the garage if we do get the Odyssey. Thank you so much!

Hi, I have had owned trucks for 10 years. I have had every one from the pathfinder, to Hummer2. Now,I am on my 2nd GMC Yukon XL Denali. I have had it for only 6 months adn I am ready to get rid of it. I have 2 children and 2 dogs. I am now ready to give up my "non-mom" truck, for the family MiniVAn. My questions are:
How will the dogs fit easily in the Van?? I have 2 Labradors, one is 95lbs, and the other 70lbs. I love the truck for the reason the dogs are in the way back, kids in the captains row, and stuff in the 3rd row when we go away anywhere. We are going between teh Odyssey and the Sienna, and the dogs will be the final decision. Anyone with experience with kids and dogs in the Odyssey??? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

siggie1 says that the Bluetooth kit is compatible with 05-07 (except maybe color match), but posted it before the kit was released.

Can anyone verify the Bluetooth works with pre-08 versions? The installation instructions are quite detailed, but don't mention pre-08 models. I'm especially interested in '06, but don't currently have an Odyssey.
  • rv65rv65 Member Posts: 1,076
According to collegehillshonda.com yes it does work perfectly. Probably won't be a 100 percent match color wise though. There are however better ones though.

We ended up getting the '08 EXL, but two features missing just really irk me:

No trip computer ( showing mpg ), C'mon, they've been on low end cars for years.

And no station ID for FM stations, also something on low end cars for years.

What gives with Honda? For as much electronics that are in this thing, why do they skip such basic and useful features?
  • jlsxpressllcjlsxpressllc Member Posts: 11
The 2008 middle seat is non-stowable. It doesn't fit in the 'lazy susan'. I noticed this when we bought our Honda. The 2008 middle seat is totally different than the 2007.

I have many dogs & I have a hard plastic cargo liner that fits into the "well"/back of the Odyssey '02. The '08 also has a hard liner & they also have a liner for the back when the 3rd row is folded flat, though I don't know how sturdy it is. My dogs get along & so I just put them back their (2 female labs) & they do fine. All their nails & slobber & hair is contained & the liner is easily emptied out & easy to wash too. Hope this helps. Also, I looked at the Sienna several years ago before buying the Honda & I chose the Honda because of the lack of leg room for the 3rd row. If your small children grow, especially if they are boys, then you want to think about leg room. If you occasionally have adults in the 3rd row, you want leg room. Get into the 3rd row of each van & you will see what I mean. Also, the flip down 3rd seat really comes in handy, especially if you are used to having a truck bed. You will be able to flip down that Honda 3rd row seat & still have room for your 2 children in the 2nd row.

I have an EXL w/RES and have been dead on sticker. Usually
running close to 18 city, and 24-26hwy. Just took it to Washington DC,
over 1160 miles, and although I lost my gas receipts, the way there through
the mountains, I filled on E, with 2.5 gallons left to spare and was at
25.44mpg, I would guess for the trip, with the limited city driving, I would
be close to 23mpg. One thing, get weathertech mats! Honda mats suck
    I am selling mine.

Not able to store the third seat in the floor. Not on the 08. The 07 yes.

The odometer is 1700 miles now, but the oil life still shows 80%. Is that normal?

When should be the 1st oil change for odyssey?

Honda is known for using a special break in oil that should remain in as long as possible. IMHO, you should check your manual for specific information but AFAIK, the oil life minder is a very accurate indicator of actual oil life. 10K is not uncommon today.
