While being by my sister in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn, every block had a large selection of Legacy/Outback models from over the years. I couldn't believe how many Outback's and Legacy's there were! I also saw my first Forester XS. Nice looking vehicle.
Mark
What part of Park Slope? That's where I grew up -- on Lincoln Place between 8th and 7th Ave.
There are quite a few Subarus in that area. I never really noticed it until I owned one!

The bad news: I have to go to Balboa Subaru in San Diego to test drive the Forester and get a free ice-blended drink from Coffee Bean!
Thanks, but there's a Jacob's Java just down the street... bit closer than the 1500+ miles between me & San Diego!
(grin)
Cheers!
Paul
Ken- My sister is on 6th ave between 4th and 5th. I never noticed before how many Subaru's are in the neighborhood-unbelievable!

Here are their impressions:
o Sport Shifter is nice, not as good as a some of the other ones out there (it auto-upshifts rather than bounces off the rev limiter)
o Fit and finish is excellent
o Suspension is significantly upgraded from previous GT and GT limited models
o New rims looks better than the old ones.
That's all I could get out of them.

P.S. didn;t get a chance last Friday to write down all my e-mail addies
I'm in NYC.
Asking $2500 which is how much I spent on it.
$1000 purchase price
$700 for the Clutch, Flywheel resurface etc.
$600 for the Air-Suspension conversion to coil overs
$125 for the Rack and Pinion
$50 for the PS Pump
$100 full tune-up
$125 for the Rear diffy (not installed yet)
$400 for new mid-pipe + Catalytic
Plus I'm including:
$50 extra PS Pump
$100 extra pods
$150 extra set of rims
So I have invested so far: $3400 Plus the labor to install a lot of it. Also if someone wants the WRX rims we can negotiate them into the price as well.

We're getting by nicely. The wife could not withstand the heat on the 4th, and we actually had to leave early, during the fireworks. She's still half effaced (that's when the Cervix thins out to make way for the baby), but has not progressed over the last week. It's anybody's guess, literally.
Lasik? Sounds good. I know Hutch did that recently. I'm definitely thinking about it. Contacts are a royal pain, I'm just tired of them.

Well, 24 went on 36, and the fever topped 104' F. Dehydration time. Dreams and reality were beginning to merge as Beth looked for someone to watch Emily, control the fever with cold baths and ice blankets, consult with doctors, etc. I finally gave in to a 20 minute ride to the hospital ER at 7pm Friday night. After some basic test and a bag of IV drip, I got a diagnosis at 2am to go home and ride it out - just a virus.
Sat & Sun was more of the same. A human temperature cycling machine. 101 to 104+ in waves. Wild dreams, cold baths, tons more Advil, Tylenol & antacids. Beth on the phone demanding that the covering Dr. of our Med Group come in off of the Golf course and admit me to the hospital, and their refusal. Sunday night a theory by one of them that I might have Lyme or other tick borne illness, as I 'live' in the garden when not at work. Beth fills the prescription, but I can hardly stomach it.
Monday I finally get to see a covering GP (my reg Dr. is on vacation). The fever is down a bit, and he talks of Lyme. Most of the 'push and hit' exams come up normal until he hits my pelvis on the right side. Bingo. A ball of fire archs up from my hip area to my rib cage center. An Ultrasound "STAT" in this town takes two days to schedule, but after some yelling, gets done the next morning. I am feeling a little better and we stop for some breakfast. First real food in almost 6 days. Head home and Beth takes a nap. She is exhausted also. While I am puttering around the kitchen the call comes in that the results show something - please come in immediately. I left Beth sleeping and hopped into the SUBARU (see, we got there eventually....). Stony/sludge/infected/bloated Gallbladder. Report to the hospital in 1 hr to begin IV antibiotics.
Wednesday, 7/3, they did endoscopy to remove a stone in the common duct (a truly horrible and exhausting experience), then surgery to get the offending organ. They let me out earlier today, althought I am still running a fever. In total, probably the worst 9 days of my life. So now two weeks of rest before returning to IBM. Did anybody notice I was gone????
Steve
Take care,

I was interviewed for a Wallstreet Journal article on the Forester, but I never bothered to see if they used my quote. Maybe I'll go to the library and see.
Or am I showing my ignorance of advance dating like they use on monthly magazines? 8~(

He's quoted towards the end of the article. See the paragraph that begins "A BIG WIN FOR CONSUMERS."

Couldn't bear to look at all the dead bugs on the nose of the car, so took advantage of a slow day otherwise and finally got around to a wash/clay/wax job... No, I didn't wax the wheels... I'm slightly OCD, but I'm not nuts
Cheers!

Steve- Ouch! That story certainly doesn't give me much confidence in the medical community's ability to make what should have been an easy diagnosis.
Speaking of gas mileage- I drove to western NC to visit the folks over the weekend and got a personal best of 31.3mpg which enabled me to drive 400 miles without the low fuel light coming on!

He's usually sounding off by now.

edit: Guess not yet.
That was my evil twin in Business Week. Just kidding.
So I've been in Autoweek, Drive, and now Business Week. I've officially used up my 15 minutes. ;-)
Had a great weekend, 4 days of fun with my daughter and wife, highlighted by a boat trip on Saturday, down the Potomac. My company picnic was Friday, too, but you could feel the budget cuts - no freebies at the door this year (last year every guest got T-shirts).
Dang, Frank, you already had me beat and now you've stretched the lead. I have only managed 30.4mpg.

PS Baby: you guys will know within 24 hours, at most.

It was still a pretty rough weekend, but this morning I awoke to feeling, for the first time in two weeks, like I had finally 'turned the corner'. For anyone interested in rapid weight loss, I highly recommend this plan. Total aversion to food works wonders. Haven't been this light in 10 years!
For someone who is often referred to as the 'Energizer Bunny', I feel totally out of my element. Worst part is the 10 day driving restriction!

juice, Yes, you’re quoted in the printed copy of Business Week. I was visiting my in-laws in Boston when I read the article. If you can wait a while, I’ll ask them to save the issue for you.
How much are the royalties? ;-) Seriously though, how did the author contact you?
On the trip to Boston and return, I got 28.4mpg in the 00 GT wagon, averaging 70-75mph (save Connecticut, at 55-60mph). We left Boston at 4am on Sunday. Once they stopped fighting over pillows; the kids settled down and slept. Around 8am (IIRC), we crossed the George Washington Bridge, looked south to admire Manhattan’s skyline, and were surprised when we could barely make out the island. Smoke from the Canadian forest fires created a haze that almost swallowed Manhattan. The smoke followed us south; Sunday afternoon, the haze painted the Maryland sky orange. Quite eerie.
The early morning departure made for a pleasant drive in the GT, even through the normally congested sections of 95 in CT and NYC.
Cheers,

Man, even I think that sounds like nonsense! I can't fool myself!
PRLady from Edmunds.com put me in touch with them. They called me to get a quote relating to their article, plus some opinions. It was a nice conversation.
She's actually put me in touch with a few folks. There is a thread right here on Edmunds. Usually they are looking for something very specific, in my case it was shopping across several categories (SUV, van, car, wagon). They might look for people who bought Orange cars in June, stuff like that.
How's that huge road contruction project in Boston going? Is it worse than our Mixing Bowl?

My son enjoyed the museum, especially the exhibit on, what else, the Big Dig. A map of a few blocks around the museum shows the Gordian knot of utilities moved: Western Union (telegraph!), brine (!) ducts, steam, telco, storm drain, sanitary sewage, sewage/storm drain, fresh water, AC power, DC (!) power (street car anachronism?). What are juice and I talking about? http://www.bigdig.com/ PBS has a show on July 24.

That BW quote is very cool. Way to go!
Was it really "overwhelming" to pick the Legacy or did they swap out "no brainer". ;-)
