Now I can't wait to get my Yokohama AVS Intermediates for the XT6!

How did you guys luck out? It must be a secret. Opps(!), not anymore. Sorry. >-)

In the Northern Territory there are no speed restrictions. However, the Northern Territory is very sparsely populated with few bitumen roads as most of it is very serious desert or jungle. Attitudes to road legislation are much more relaxed than in the rest of the country.
Most NT roads are gravel or dirt and there is the added road hazard of 4 trailer road trains carrying goods to outlying settlements.
I am hard pressed to think of an American state that is quite as red-necked as the Northern Territory; somewhere Deep-South with a hangover of attitudes that slavery is a good idea. The majority of the population are Koori (aboriginal) with the horrendous social problems which come from institutionalized poverty. Glue and petrol sniffing are rife and to support the habit, many youths indulge in petty crime. This is complicated by different value systems and systems of tribal laws applying to Koori which inevitably brings them into conflict with white values and laws.
The Northern Territory government operates a criminal system of "Three strikes and you're out" requiring compulsory imprisonment for a third offence. This means that a child may be jaied for something like stealing a packet of biscuits (don't laugh, I am deadly serious about the packet of biscuits), bringing them into the jail system far from their home and tribal support system. It's no surprise that many Koori youth suicide in jail and the Northern Territory government have been repeatedly criticized by various United Nations agencies. Australians generally are not proud of their NT compatriots.
The down side of the relaxed attitude to driving is the worst road toll figures in Australia and, by Australian standards, positively lethal drivers. Given that they also have an extremely relaxed attitude to drink driving, it's not a safe place to be. Mind you, if you are white and drunk, you could do worse. It's not like it's a crime which could get you on the three strikes basis.
Not so cheers
Graham

NOAA is back-pedaling on snow predictions this morning....I fear this may be another "much ado about nothing" for MD, much like New Year's..

After extended use of say, slightly below or below average quality fuel (exhibits no obvious performance problems like knocking or hesitation), what symptoms would one expect? Fuel injectors would clog; what else? How long before a diet of slightly below average quality or poor quality fuel before I'd see problems?
I recall Consumer Reports indicating petrol is a fungible but thats just one opinion. Hmm, I hope a response from Colin is imminent.
FWIW I add Chevron Techron every 3-6 months (I'm inconsistent, spank me) in both.

Well don't know if any of you remember that I am moving to London, UK -- so I have to sell my 2000 Outback.
It's located in Waterloo, ON, Canada. Base model OB, 5sp, Timberline Green, tinted windows, (minidisc player and amp optional), alarm. 38,000 KM = 23,750 miles. Asking $27,500. It's available for delivery after March 16th.
This car has never been through a car-wash, it has been hand-washed and waxed almost every month it has been owned. No scratches or dents. Full service records. Immaculate condition.
If you know anyone who may be interested, my email is ash@sarofax.com.
Thanks,
Ash
Overnight we got a couple of inches of frozen rain, and now it is snowing again. The low pressure system behind this mess is huge, and it is still out there. Anyone living on the US east coast north of the Carolinas should continue to take this storm seriously IMO. Be safe, people!

Paisan: good to hear you're wringing out the XT6 a little.
What snow? Zero accumulation. Visibility is down, but that's it. My Miata would have made it to work on time.
Speaking of Blanca, looks like the guys working on Kate's Forester are free-lancing here in the east. What a sloppy job. Awful. Paint overspray, spots on the top, loose plastic trim, and they forgot to replace the wheel's center cap, which was scratched (even though I specifically mentioned it to them).
To make things worse, when they tried to fix the trim it broke, and get this - they glued it back together! Yeah, right, guys.
After a few no-so-kind words with the manager, he agreed to clean it up, buy a new plastic trim piece to replace the one they broke, and get a new center cap for the wheel. I simply did not accept their poor work and left it with them.
Sorry to vent. It's just so disappointing.

Sorry to hear about the miata problems. But didn't we mention this *before* you brought it in? Well anyone in the northeast that needs a good body shop I know a great one in SI, excellent work, although it might be a trip for some of you

At least the body panels are straight, with good, tight tolerances. The paint looks good, too. No orange peel, surprisingly good color match for an 8 year old car.
It's just some of the details they seemed to rush. I told them to take their time - I'm in no rush at all. We'll see how it looks on Thursday when I go in again.

PS Celicas have no torque. It would take a skilled driver to keep the engine in the power band. Your XT6 is far more flexible, not to take anything away from your driving...

Everyone : stay safe and watch for the lunatics doing 60-70 in the snow and ice.

Loosh, Thanks. I realize you provided the URL to save my the trouble of navigating the menus, but what are the selections from the root (http://www.imprezawrx.com/)?

BTW, my poor Forester celebrates exactly 3 months in the shop to date. To start off my morning, I've faxed very angry letters to the shop owner and to my insurance. I'm lobbying to take this shop off the list of approved facilities by State Farm and AAA.
What's the HTML sign for "grrr-grrr-arrgh"?

Maybe it should read "Dimentia" instead.

They had a fully customized PT Cruiser on the lot which looked really nice. Lots of custom body work and paint, inside and out. It was very clean - even the detail work.
That's what I was hoping for. Guess their profit margins on custom work is better than working with insurance companies.

Cheers Pat.

Before noon today, "Subaru Crew (2 folders, 9 discussions)" was not included. It was (accidentally?) dropped sometime last week.
It is back now, however...

Cheers Pat.
I sent several messages inquiring about the missing Subaru Crew beginning last Thursday.
The response was -we can not really tell you what is wrong with your browser.
I had deleted history, etc. and tried it on another unrelated machine.
I can only guess that when your folks checked my inquiry that the were getting a reload from browser history.
As of yesterday am things were back to normal.
Thanks for checking.

We (wife, boys 3.75 & 7) [1] are driving a 00 GT wagon to New York this weekend; staying in East Midtown. We're leaving DC Saturday at o'dark thirty (hopefully the kids will sleep) to reach the city by 9am. Park, check in, subway to Battery Park, ferry to Statue of Liberty and if time, the World Trade Center. If it's too cold we'll tour skyscrapers.
Sunday morning we're visiting my wife's friend. In the afternoon, I'll have the kids to myself and I was thinking of looking at a Crew member's ride. Shh, don't tell my wife that last one.
Where's a cheap place for gas (close to 95) that's close to the city?
(Let me know if this question is better asked elsewhere.)
Any roads/bridges/avenues & streets to avoid?
..Mike
[1] Don't try telling my son he's 3. He's three and three quarters.

A scouting report, so to speak...

Mike: don't forget to take the kids to FAO Schwarz on 58th and Fifth, or even to see Rockefeller Center if you have the time.
