That left the Passat 4-motion (vapor car - talked about but didn't materialize until much later) and the Legacy.
I figure a Passat would have cost about $6-8k more than my Legacy. It might have been a difficult decision if the Passat were available back then. As it is, it's a 90+% probability that my next AWD car will be a Subie.
However, I am concerned about Subaru going "upmarket" to become a premium make. (See post 5768 in "Cafe".)
Jim (a different one than above)
My son is just 19 months now, still too young, but he'll get one of those soon enough. ;-)
Bob did meet up with DCDouglas, I spoke to him while they were at the DC auto show. I couldn't make it since my nanny was off, so I may go next week.
A6 is bigger and costlier than any Subie.
FWIW, the torsen AWD in Audis can only send up to 67% of power to either axle, while Subies are actually more flexible than that. VTD can even send 100% to either axle.

She'll be an interesting roommate. Other than that, pretty much nothing going on. My family tends to be more about just getting together than spending mass quantities on each other-- which is good, I think.

But the best gift this year was having our baby daughter at the center of attention with her grandparents. It's just amazing how one baby can just light up everyone's spirits. It felt so good being with family.
Erina also came down with her first big cold. She ran a fever of about 104 with coughing and a runny nose. We lost quite a bit of sleep for two nights as she didn't want to be put down alone. It's amazing how much worry a simple cold can cause. Well, she's all better now although she is generating some major snot from her tiny nose!

Been there, Ken, kids actually can withstand much higher temps than adults can. Still, 104 is pretty high! Whew.
Lucky got an oil change yesterday, first day over 60 degrees in ages. Sandy got those wipers installed plus all fluids topped off. Gotta gets those mats installed.
Trico teflon wipers are only so-so, no better than any other wiper I've used. Costco had them so we got some for the Forester and the Miata. Despite the teflon, they still streak, and the outer edges don't come in full contact towards the lower passenger side of the windshield. Oh, well.

One word for your co-worker. Dependability.

The holiday's have been 'Annie-centric' here as well. My parents, then Beth's family, with my sister's clan later this week.
We tried toasting the occasion with some old bottles of Champagne left to me by my uncle, but unfortunately not stored properly. Dom Perignon (sp?) vintage 1980, and something else - all bad.
Oh, well....
Stay safe on New Years, everyone...

Frank's review on the XT board is spot on what I would say, except that I have a rattle/buzz at 3.5K> rpm's. :disco:
Not really sure if it's inside or out, but a loose turbo heat shield (read that on the XT board) sounds plausible.
There's no replacement for displacement. :-)
This engine should not be put in the WRX. Too many crazy kids running around with the 2.0 as it is.
Met up with Ed for lunch on the day I picked it up.

My XT Envy is reaching new heights. Now that 2 Crew long-time regulars, friends that I've met in person, have them, I'm entering Envy Stage II, elevated temperature, shaky hands, lack of focus.
You think I could convince my wife a new XT would technically be medicinal, i.e. a cure to this? ;-)

It's either that or I'm pregnant, LOL.

Cheers Pat.
I de-badged the C-pillar AWD's and I'm still contemplating what to do with the rear. It's a little too busy for my tastes. I will try to snap some pics this weekend.

PS, cafe subject?
Oh and the packaging and presentation are just amazing! I seriously just sat there and admired the packaging for about an hour before even getting to the iPod itself. Very, very chic. It just oozes coolness.
I just finished updating to Win XP so I'll shortly be installing iTunes and will be on my merry way!
Any accessories you recommend? I need a car kit and I've heard that the cassette adapters work better than the FM transmitters.

Cheers Pat.
The Belkin auto-kit can power the iPod in the car and make the audio connection (it uses the dock connector on the bottom). It plugs into the 12V lighter, but I actually wired a spare 12V outlet in the glove box and hid it there. That and a Sony cassette adapter do the trick for me.
I can't think of any other accessories, but definitely give the online music store a try -- I think that's one of the best add-ons, and is great for diversifying your music collection at a mere $0.99 a pop (or less)!
Have fun!

They are the most extraordinary vehicles. The design requirements for a London Taxis create a truly special vehicle but one uniquely adapted for their native environment. Outside of London, they do not work well and I cannot think of another city where they would be appropriate.
However, I do harbour wonderful memories of travelling in them. One of the world's really great trips was my regular commute from Paddington, Marble Arch, Park Lane, Hyde Park Corner, Constitution Hill, Buckingham Palace, The Mall, Admiralty Arch, Trafalgar Square, (past Nelson's Column), Northumberland Avenue, Victoria Embankment, Monument and on to Lloyds (where my office was located). Worth paying for a cab any day, paricularly when it's on expenses.
But, Baltimore?
Cheers
Graham

By the time that is offered (MY2005?), I hope to at least drive the new Legacy and see the 7 seater concept. So I'll have a better idea of which I prefer.
To be honest, I'm perfectly happy with Sandy. It's the wife that is putting pressure on for us to get a bigger vehicle, and the XT wouldn't address that concern. The new SUV would. The new Legacy/Outback might.
I guess my needs don't match up with my likes at this phase in my life. See the sacrifices parents make? My kids had better keep in touch with me after college! LOL

It's funny how kids particularly pick up a whole raft of bugs when they move to a new country (or even locality). I believe it's a result of them having acquired resistance to one group of bugs where they formerly lived and a slightly different population prevailing in the new spot. the stress of upheaval also has its effect.
Each time we have moved, the kids have copped every bug that went by for the first winter and then returned to normal health the following year.
The fever thing is a bit frightening when their babies, particularly the exciting moments when the temperature spikes. As sure as you call the doctor out, the kid will return to normal temperature in the hour and be bouncing around by the time the doctor calls! with experience, we decided the best technique was to leave it until the temperature reached 104 and then stand under a cool shower with the kid if things got way out of hand. Given the fever is the bodies defense mechanism to an infection, there is no way you want to get in the way of the body doing its own diesease fighting.
Ah, the pleasures of having babies!
And to keep it on the automotive theme, have you ever noticed that a kid always vomits on a new car's upholstery as its christening present. The car never feels really new after that moment?
Cheers
