Not sure yet. I come back from SC on the 16th. Either a weeknight that week or very early the final weekend of the show.

I have a rough sked next few weeks - on the road tomorrow, 4/12-18, 4/20, 4/23-27. Whoever can go please take a bunch of pix and post them somewhere like Photopoint!

    Thanks,

Just a reminder of the Subaru crew chat tonight at 6-7pm Pacific/9-10pm Eastern. Yours truly will be hosting once again. Looking forward to it, and I hope to see some of you there!

The link to the chat is near the top of this page, just under the topic title.

Thanks for the reminder on the profile. Done, although I'd like to see the WRX listed...oh well.

Anyway, I still have the Cougar, although I'm going to sell it (no trade-in value whatsoever). Another reason for the Subaru!

  • drew_drew_ Member Posts: 3,382
The 'rex is not listed in the profile? I'll see what I can do about that...

Meanwhile, check out Edmunds' just posted video review of the WRX here:
    http://www.edmunds.com/video/roadtests.html

    I think you all will enjoy it...sort of Motor Trend TV-ish, Car & Driver TV-ish, and Motorweek-ish all-in-one. :-)

From what I understand, there was some sort of "April Fool" joke posted on the I-Club about a new wagon.

I'm not sure I get the joke.

    Thanks,

    Patti
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I thought I read the rumor in Autoweek, though, and they are seldom wrong.

For sure we'd heard about it long before April 1.

Real close to my new OB. Just received word that one dealer will give me invoice. One week?:)

Someone posted a link in the Future forum a while back, to a Yahoo news story that mentioned Subaru unveiling a "new wagon" at the NY Auto show.
    Found it: http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/010309/nyf001a.html

Welcome Matt, and congrats! Enjoy the ride.

I'll be going to the show, just not sure when now. Either the first day or the last.

It says, "Subaru, the pioneer of the all-wheel-drive wagons is expected to introduce an all-new ``wagon'' model at this year's show."

Patti - was this speculation, or is there something behind this story that is classified? I think you can reveal that much...

    -juice
  • subaru_teamsubaru_team Member Posts: 1,676
Thank you all (especially Dennis for the Yahoo press release) and the responses.

When I first asked about the "wagon" I was told that it was an "I-Club" rumor. Since sending me the information, I went back to the folks with the information.

They are not sure what information the NY Auto Show had, but think maybe it was information from last years show??

Anyway, they are contacting the PR folks in NY and asking for them to correct the error.

No new wagon this year (except the WRX Wagon). Next year???

    Patti
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
    That is funny!

Yeah next year they should get a re-badged Axiom as the Grand-Forester! Just take out the 2wd mode of the Axiom and it'll be good to go.

Rack it up to wishful thinking by editors that want to catch the scoop before anyone else.

Bummer, though, I was hoping for a Blitzen wagon.

For the interiors, it would be nice to see a leather color other than black for the Legacy sedans..I know they make a tan leather for the Outback; why can't they offer that for the Legacy? While they are at it, how about a leather interior(black with blue inserts) for the WRX like the RS option from prior years. In fact, the leathers shouldd be perforated; here in Florida, the last thing I want to do is sit on hot black leather (OOOOH!, BABY!!!) after a day of work.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I'd prefer heated seats first, then a leather option (only with heat).

The way most WRX owners will drive, slippery leather may not be a good idea.

I noticed the IS300 has some kind of suede-like insert...that would be nice
Here in Florida, we have a special seat heater..it is called the Sun

the WRX came in 2nd in their "Most Fun" category of annual awards for this year.

Why 2nd? Because it isn't as "cute looking" as the winning Mini. AutoWeek did say the WRX is full of giggles to drive, just not to look at. And... they haven't even driven the Mini—and it won!

The styling issue of the WRX raises its ugly head again (pun intended).

    Bob
  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
Subaru does not care too much about what anyone says about the styling, what they do care about is that the WRX will run the [non-permissible content removed] off anything in its price class and a lot more well above its price class, and they probably will be able to sell all they can build, now thats what they care about folks.
    Cheers Pat.

Hilarious. But not exactly good automotive journalism. I'm a bit disappointed in them - most fun what? Car to look at?

I have fun looking at my neighbor's yellow New Beetle, but I'd rather pay a visit to good ol' Hutch for a drive any day.

    Chat's starting now...

Am I the only one that likes the WRX look? I like it,....there I said it. I'm tired of all of these similar looking cars going around. That's a main reason for now buying a subie.

    I can't believe I have to spend my afternoon in Technical training on the WRX. Then, I have to race a 5-speed ;~}

Oh well, off to work I go. I'll let you know about it next time I can post. I hope you all have a great day! I'm looking forward to a Friday that will be so easy. Plus, it's supposed to be raining - I'm anxious to see the performance on slick roads with some speed.

I'll forward it on to Product Planning. I know that they do not offer a lot of choices in mixing interior and exterior colors for $$$$'s sake in production, but it can't hurt to ask!

    Thanks!

  • lakepoplakepop Member Posts: 221
Patti-Sounds like you get to forward stuff to Subaru for their consideration.

My only complaint with my 2001 Forester is the GAS GUAGE. Considering all the engineering cababilities they must have available ...a better/more linear fuel guage certainly seems achievable. Moreover this appears to be a much talked about complaint on all the forums I follow.

    Just my .02 :)

    Patti,
If I were you, I'd quit that stinking job! Sheesh, what next a free lobster lunch, big bonus, you shouldn't have to take that kind of crap from your employer.

I've been waiting patiently for 1k on the odometer so I can do what you're getting paid to do. In case your boss ever reads these posts, I'll do Patti's job for less money!

Look forward to hearing your report.

Greg/Bit- Careful....you're starting to sound like Aztek owners :(o)

lakepop- What does your gas gauge do? Mine seems to follow a fairly linear path to E.

Patti- You should complain to the labor relations board. There are federal laws designed to prevent those type of "sweat shop" conditions!

    Patti,
It has come to my attention that the Yellow PIO Spoilers are not available? Is this true? Please e-mail me ASAP mike@iace.com cause one of my buddies (you met him in philly) ordered a Yellow w/spoiler and will be royally upset if he doesn't get the spoiler. Thanks in advance for your help.

Not taking anything whatsoever away from the WRX, but, people, I have to tell you, the Minis I owned were F-U-N to drive, and they attracted looks and comments like honey does bees. I think the WRX is a fine, fun car, but I have no trouble beleiving that the new Mini beats it in a pure fun category.

    Regards,
    -wdb
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Not to take anything away from the minis but I see them as being snatched up in the same manner as the PT Cruiser @ or above MSRP. I'm sure they'll be expensive to begin with. So the Fun/$ factor isn't necessarily there.

I am thinking about buying a digital camera and I am looking for advice and since I am almost computer illiterate I thought I would ask you since you obviously know your way around computers.
    (1) what is the advantage of digital?
(2)how do I go about posting photos on edmunds and photopoint, we have a service here that will post regular photos om the net but I am not sure about how to make the leap from there to photopoint and edmunds, now if this was an old car instead of things computer related I would have no problem at all it would appear that digital is the way to go but I need it explained in simple terms.

By the way with all you have done to your vehicles I am really surprised that you have not gotten into some brake work before this, there is no great mystery about brakes, to change fluid remove most of it with a turkey baster fill up with fresh fluid, then start at the right rear have someone pump the pedal slowly after opening the bleed nipple until fresh fluid appears have some brake fluid in a jar and a clear tube on the bleed nipple have the end of the tube immersed in the brake fluid, then do the same to the left rear then right front then left front, keep the master cylinder full the whole time you are doing this check it after you have done each wheel.
To just bleed brakes use the same order RR.LR.RF.LF. have someone pump the pedal slowly until hard then hold pedal open the bleed nipple and watch fluid coming through the clear tube hold the pedal down close the nipple and pump the pedal up again repeat this procedure until there are no more air bubbles then move to the rest of the brakes.
It sounds more complicated than it really is, it is quite simple to do when you get the hang of, when you have done it once you will wonder what the big mystery was.
    Cheers Pat.
Ps if it an older car clean the rust fron around the bleed nipple with a little wire brush and spray penetrating oil around the bleed nipple a couple of days before you are going to work on them.

Greg, you are not the only one who likes the design of the WRX..I finally saw one last week at a dealer and was really taken by how much better it looks...really nice proportions and lines
Juice, I sent you a 10-lb package of Sun by FedEx..look for it over the weekend...

Someone was car shopping on another board I frequent. I posted my own experiences with Subaru, plus a link to this forum. She was impressed by you all, although she just lurked, I think.

NEway, lots of folks told her to buy a Honda or a Passat. Here is the result:

I really don't see much of a connection between the real Minis of old (I had a '68 Cooper & a '76 Mini) and the new version which is a totally different type of beast. There seems to be even less similarity than with the Beetle & the New Beetle.

I used the word "ugly" in my post to emphasize a point, not to describe my feelings toward the vehicle, or it's looks.

Frankly, I find the front of the vehicle the most attractive part, unlike many who've criticized the vehicle's looks. From the "A" pillar back... typical Asian blandness. But certainly NOT ugly.

    Pat,

I am very happy with my digital camera but the ONLY advantage is convenience. I have a relatively simple, but well-reviewed model (Olympus D360) and it takes outstanding outdoor pictures and fair indoor ones as long as there's plenty of light. It doesn't do well in low-light at all. Anyway, no digital camera has enough zoom to really use outdoors, say at a sporting event. Sony is about the only mfg that has widespread digicams with zoom, but only their very latest model (~$1200, comes with a 3" mini CDR instead of flash ram!) takes pictures worth a damn. IMO what's the point of features if the pictures are mediocre?

But the convenience is very compelling. It is so easy to snap a few quick pictures, delete the ones you hate, and download 'em to your computer and then upload to the internet. Photopoint is simple-- you use a tool on the site to browse your computer for images and upload them.

Anyway, nothing can beat the quality of a competent 35mm with autofocus. Of course you pay through the wazoo, but the pictures are incomparable to any digicam I've ever seen and you can have your Kodak photomat put the content on photoCD for a small price.

I'll continue to use 35mm for serious stuff until an affordable digicam arrives that can mount 35mm lenses. I have too many nikkors laying around not too... ;-)

I use the 25mm Advantix film in my Minolta Weathermatic camera. The benefits are regular negatives that are protected and has the high quality of regular 35mm film and I also have a CD made at time of development with all the photos. The resolution is great.
The negative side is that you need to wait until the spool is full before you can see the photos. There is not have a preview function, but I believe this is becoming available.
I really like the permanency of the electronic photos on the CD.

and my name in the same line. Ugh..thanks Frank!

Patti: Your up there with baseball and hockey players. You all get paid to do what I do for fun, and free. Lucky you. Say hello to Jeter for me. ;)

Bob: Agree, I like the front the best by far. The "bigness" of the grill and headlights with the scoop looks cool. The rear end is a little bland. I think different tail lights would make a big difference. I hope you did not get offended by my remarks - it was not directed at you, but, just a general comment. :)

  • barresa62barresa62 Member Posts: 1,379
the rear of the wagon is quite attractive. It's one of the reasons that a lot of folks who would not consider a wagon otherwise have bought it over the sedan.

Here is the information I have. I'll post it here and send it to you. That way, if anyone else has a question. . . .

Please be advised that the 2002MY Impreza Sedan Spoiler (P/N E7210FE500**) is not available for dealer installation at this time. Subaru has determined that a last minute modification to the spoiler has impacted the installation procedure to the point that it is no longer conducive to a quality installation by the dealer. The fact that this spoiler is NOT available through the parts distribution network should be communicated to all Sales, Parts and Service staff in order to avert any mis-representations on the part of SOA's dealer organizations to Subaru customers. The spoiler is available in all colors, on a limited basis, through the port installed vehicle allocation process.

SOA and FHI are currently working toward the approval of a dealer installable kit in order to meet this demand. Availability at this point is looking like mid-summer, however, we are working to improve on this estimate as much as possible.

Patti again - I guess a lot of your friends situation will depend on when he is taking delivery. If it was ordered with it and installed at the port, it should be okay. I'll keep everyone posted.

    Thanks!

I like the information that was posted about bleeding the brakes. I am just curious about one thing. Why do you put a clear tube from the bleeding nipple into a jar with brake fluid??? What is the purpose? Just so it does not leak? Also in a new car with only 30K miles it will be hard to tell the difference between the new fluid and the old. So approx. How many times do you have to do the procedure. I am thinking 5 times would do. Great stuff! Thanks.

    Anibal
  • p0926p0926 Member Posts: 4,423
Pat- Colin's right that digital camera technology isn't on par (yet) with that of a 35mm camera. However, digital cameras are great for posting photos on the Internet and emailing them to friends (I've got an Olympus D460). It's also nice to be able to review a picture right after you take it and delete it and re-shoot as necessary. While visiting the in-laws over the holidays, I was able to hook my camera up to their TV and run a slide show of photos taken that same day.

Re your question about how to get a photo onto Edmund's: To get a photo so others can view it you have to first upload it to a server (such as Photopoint) then you can link to it by just pasting the location (URL) of your photo into your message. Embedding a photo directly into your message is a little trickier. However, the first post of the "Subaru Crew: Photo Gallery" has pretty good instructions. Just hollar if you run into any problems.

Didn't someone say that GM has an interest in Subaru now? If so, I wonder if we will ever see the OnStar system added. That would be the extent of GM involvement I would like to see.

    Mark
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
GM owns 20% of Subaru. You'll see Delphi Electronics, GM radiators, and AC Delco radios going into the cars over the next few years. That is the extent of GM involvment in Isuzu which they own 49% of. Also they have GM A/Ts, which might not be a bad thing for the subarus since GM makes a 5 speed A/T. Of course they'd need to make a special AWD version of it, but it might be good for them. (GM makes all the A/Ts for BMW) See a link on http://isuzu-suvs.com for the GM trannies.
