Serge would be Serginho, actually. Unless you are very tall, then it would be Sergao with a tilde (~) above the a.

If you're the only American on a team, you would be called Americano.

If you're the blondest, you would be called Galego.

Oops, forgot the URL! Who cares, Brazil 3, Ghana 0! :shades:

    Loooosh!

    So, how's the toddler?

toddler? psssh. How about sprinter? She's fast, dude. Real fast.

Things have been crazy. Work is crazy. We sold our house. We were homeless, living in a friend's spare room. We bought a house. It needs work, so we're camping in it, all our stuff in storage. I was out of the country for 3 weeks on bidniss. Then a friend died in TX and I had to go down to hwlp with the funeral (which I was happy to do. Well not happy per se, but you know what I mean).

So not a lot of Edmunds, or anything else for that matter.

Plus, on top of it all I'm suffering from.......

    Honda Fit envy :surprise:
  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
    Loosh!

Good to hear from you! Sounds like you're up to here (holds hand to chin) with stuff.

Honda Fit envy!? What gives? How's the XT?

Emi's doing great. We can't believe it's been four weeks already, but she's growing fast! Emi's already outgrown some of her first outfits!

I wanted to share a few photos with you.

    Brenda,

I can sympathize with that feeling. We always say we "rent" all of our nieces, nephews, and friends kids. This way we can return them to Mommy and Daddy :)

Well, we're really house poor now for one thing. I've been thinking about simplifying my vehicle for a while now. Plus, I really miss car handling. I thought I could accept the compromise, but I can't. I spent a lot of time, money and effort on modest mods to the Forester, all of which came to grief. The SG is just not as friendly to that as the SF or the Subaru cars.

The Fit sounds like a spirited handler and, with the miles I do, would consume a whopping 600 gallons of fuel LESS per year. It would also lower my monthly, and perhaps my insurance. It's a small, nimble, versatile and practical package. I have so far resisted the urge to drive one. I would get the base model over the Sport, and put the money towards summer rims and tires vs. body cladding, fog lights and cruise control.

Know the feeling Loosh. I drove the wife's Forester this morning, and couldn't wait to get back in my WRX—not so much because of the power (well that too...), but more for the tight handling it offers.

BP...BP...BP! I know it's not helping the budget but think of it this way -- with all the driving you do, you DESERVE the upgrade. Plus, you could go longer without mods too.

I think you have Chronic Car Buyer's syndrome, Loosh. Well, at least a chronic urge to trade in for new cars.

Remember when I had to talk you out of a PT Cuiser? :P

Fit is neat, thrifty, but probably not a practical family car, just a wee bit small. Even in that class, the Versa is a bit roomier, plus it has a 6MT.

However, if you really have that back-to-a-car urge, find out if the Saab 9-2x falls under that GM 0% for 6 years deal. That means just $13.89 per $1000 financed, I bet you could get a 9-2x Aero for a dirt-low payment. A $20 grand loan would be just $277.80 per month.

Bob and I drove up to NY for the Auto Show and we got 28mpg in his new WRX wagon doing about 80mph the whole way. Same 2.5T you have but geared taller and in a more aerodynamic package. The Linear would probably break 30. That's not far from what a Fit would get, really.

Ken: Emi looks adorable. Wish I had a conference or something in SF to pop in and meet her!

    juice,
I wish he would put on weight also; he eats like your typical teenager; he needs his own fridge; but he doesn't gain much...he is very healthy and his pediatrician is not at all concerned. He is already my height(5'7").
I would need to send him down...he is up in Milford PA for summer camp...we will be up there for visiting day and some time in the city.

    G'day

The search for the elusive Perfect Hash Brown continues. For those who have come in late, Australia is not renowned for its has browns, most of which come out of a packet, prepared and are effectively moulded coarse mashed potato formed into a neat shape and then deep fried.

I have lived in hope of finding good American Diner type Hash Browns for years and even enlisted the Subaru Crew's help in the search.

Now, today, I might have found the perfect hash Brown - coarse grated potated pan fried and formed into an uneven pancake, crispy and with a faint hint of caremelisation to the flavour. This was a very late lunch in a pancake parlour, served with pancakes and bacon. Heaven knows what it does for the cholestorol level.

It quite cheered me up when I was feeling low.

John Betjemen said he had never been so depressed that life could not be improved by the consumption of Creme caramel. Maybe it's Hash Brown for me.

    Cheers

    Graham,

I didn't know you were still on your hash brown quest and I am glad you were able to find some to meet your discerning taste!

I guess here in the States, we just take for granted that it's a side dish commonly found at breakfast places.

BTW, what is a "pancake parlour"?

    G'day

Pancake parlour is a chain of slightly upmarket (they have cutlery and plates) pancake restaurants, making global variations of pancakes. Thus you can get a supposedly Russian type blinni,an Iranian style tabriz, a French style crepe and sundry Mmerican buckwheat pancakes. The discovery of the Hash Browns was most cheering.

An Australian style pancake would probably come with lemon juice and sugar, so they include those. You can also add ice cream or/and maple syrup (Judy has just pointed out that these should be an "and" rather than an "or" statement - may explain my ballooning waist line!)

    Cheers

I was going through my childhood albums last night with my family and stumbled across the below photo. It was taken in 1969 at my grandfather's house in Japan when my family decided to go for a visit. I had my first birthday on that trip!

The resolution is poor since I simply snapped a digital photo of an already aged color photo (I'll get around to scanning it some day), but you can see a few things.

    From left to right:
    - My grandmother holding me in her arms
    - My cousins
    - My uncle's Subaru 360

Although I don't remember the 360 from this particular trip, I do recall riding in it on subsequent trips until I was about 12 years old. It remained in my uncle's posession for quite some time after until he sold it to a collector for a higher price than he originally paid for it.

I remember the doors that swung open backwards, the rat-tat-tat of the engine and the cool little scoop that opened up on the hood (as shown in the photo) to allow for some ventilation.

Anyway, I thought this was a cool find worth sharing with the Crew.

Fantastic photo, Ken... you should really send that in to Drive magazine! The 360 would be a fun basis for a modern retro-styled car.

at least I thought so ...

Quite by accident I ended up at the travelogue of a "searcher" for state "tri-points" .. the places where 3 states meet geographically .. it's an interesting site .. also found it interesting that he drives a forester (anyone from here and I'm not recognizing them?) ..

at any rate, these sites have a couple of pics of the Forester .. I found the entire thing enjoyable ... these are the 'first' pages, but there is an easy link if you want to read it ..

Brazil played so poorly they deserved to lose. The only star on the field that day was Zidane, so congrats to the Frenchman.

Parreira kept putting Ronaldinho in the wrong position, left mid field, though he's used to playing forward on the right. A lot of us just didn't get that. He looked out of place, confused, because he was! :confuse:

Ken: so we're the same age, then.

I'd have to admit that I don't watch a ton of soccer, but Ronaldinho did play midfield all tournament long and he sucked all tournament long. I am pretty sure on his club team he plays either mid or forward as dictated by the coach's setup. -- if there is only one forward, it's generally not him. That makes sense to me as Ronaldo is a lot faster and a lot trickier with the ball.

I don't think it was positioning or coaching as much as him just having a terrible tournament.

    ~Colin
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
He usually plays forward at Barcelona, his regular club in Spain, and usually on the right side.

Ronaldinho actually has incredible ball control and is possibly the best dribbler in the world, but he's used to facing one defender and shooting, not 2-3 defenders and then having to pass. He kept losing the ball. The French did defend him well, double- and some times triple-teaming.

In the cup he didn't score once! He was basically ineffective. FIFA player of the year the last couple of years.

Ronaldo (9) has been slow, a shadow of his former self. At least he scored enough to break the record for most goals ever in World Cup finals. I don't believe he'll be in shape to make it back in 2010.

Brazil always has the skilled superstars, but they need a cohesive group that can play together well.

Old is when you drive your Outback home from the eye doc and you go a mile with your left blinker on.

Hey, my eyes were dilated so I couldn't see the dash too good, and my radio was blaring.

Tripping the heated seat button with the A/C on max isn't a particularly youthful sign either.

Hey, I drive with the AC & seat heaters on a lot!
After 20+ years of stretcher bearing & person lifting, the ol' lower back appreciates a bit of heat now & then...

It may be wear & tear, but it ain't necessarily old! :)

Talk about feeling age. I attempted waterskiing this past weekend.

Something that I was extremely good at.
When I was in my 30's.

I pulled a muscle and have been in pain since Saturday.

I used to waterski a lot, mostly back in the 80s. Slalom, stunt skis, even with someone on my shoulders for a show once at Lake of the Woods.

I should dig up a photo I have and scan it in, you guys would not recognize me!
