The refreshing trick is working for some people until the servers get kicked back into shape.

Heck, if I can be accepted with my lowly Mazda 3SP, you can dwell here...:D
Keep us posted on the experience... it'll be sooner than later when we'll see the Subie Hybrid... oh wait, someone said that already
After a week with the car I can truly say the system is seamless. I can't tell without looking at the computer readout if I'm running on electric, gas, or both. The engine starts and stops almost imperceptibly, and kicks in instantaneously when needed. Very well engineered. Basically, you just drive it like you would any normal car.
And that electric motor has some torque- the acceleration is impressive for a car that gets such good mileage. R&T tested it 0-60 in 7.3 sec. C&D 7.7 sec. I would agree with these numbers- the CVT gets it into the most optimum rev band and keeps it there. Neat.
The car is also dead silent. It's eerie. I think it's about Lexus quiet. I can see how it could be scary for pedestrians who can't hear you coming!
It also handles reasonably well. Toyota did a nice job in significantly improving the suspension and handling without sacrificing a comfortable ride.
The bad- the electric power steering is miserable. I feel like I'm playing a video game- no feedback whatsoever. The brakes are weird (regenerative braking system)and a little long but I suppose that goes with the territory. The exhaust sound is aweful- a tin can exhaust.
By the computer, I am up to 37mpg and climbing. Assuming it's calculating high, that's still incredible for such a big car- and it is big. A lot bigger than my leggy.
I could imagine a hybrid Subie, the engine running to the rears with the electric motors driving the fronts on demand. It could be very sporting! (and fast!) No turbo needed- 80ft-lbs of boost from the hybrid engine- with no lag! Technology can be fun!
Anyway, thanks for all the support. It's made my transition easier (but I stare at every LGT that goes by) But I hope my sacrifice is giving everyone a glimpse of Subaru's future hybrid!
I will be leaving for Korea for 2 weeks on Monday, so I'll be out of the loop for a while. I'll touch base again when I get back!

Going to go see "A Prairie Home Companion" today with the family. It's playing down at the local Lake Wobegon Bajou. And afterwards we'll all go out and have some rhubarb pie for dessert.

The WRX was a freebie from a Subaru event, I don't recall which one. Great little toy, that thing sling shots like a bullet, quickest car/toy I've seen that isn't motorized.

This was a special Fathers Day. 10 years ago on June 18th, 1996, in a small city half way around the world, we received our daughter Emily. She was just under 4 months old at the time. To celebrate, we spent the weekend with one of the families we have remained close with from that trip, and bored the kids to tears with video tapes of China, the orphanage, and our early days together. They got revenge by playing HSM over and over and.....
Steve
First I've heard of the movie; maybe you can stop by the Subaru Chat tonight and hum a few bars. :P

I'm soccer-crazed right now, USA is out but Brazil is in, even if they lose today against Japan. Then most likely they will play Ghana, we'll see.
Soccer fans can join us in cheering on Brazil if your team is out.

FYI, in addition to being a very satisfied owner of a 1997 Legacy Outback Limited wagon, I also own a Lexus LS400 and a Mercedes-Benz 500SL. The Subaru is my favorite vehicle, after the Lexus.

If you wanted Spec B handling but an AT, you could take Bob's recommendation and upgrade the suspension. The Spec B suspension bits would bolt up to a standard 2.5 GT. The only thing that would be difficult to emulate would be the Torsen diff.

I was recently in touch with Dave Sullivan, the SOA Brand Manager for the Tribeca, and he passed on this bit of info. It could be a good deal for those interested.
By the way, if you happen by the Wilmington, DE area, I'll be working at
Matt Slap Subaru for a week starting the 11th (part of some
cross-training for me this summer). Bring some folks by that want to
buy a car, and I can hook them up with VIP.....! :-D
I'm assuming he means July 11.

ESPN had a little intro where they compared the moves of the Brazilian soccer players to basketball and football legends in the US, it was very cool.
CARS - can't believe it but I still have not gone. We got free passes to watch Garfield, which was OK, and I took my daughter to see Over the Hedge (better) on her birthday, but CARS was not out yet.
No spec.B auto, but a GT Limited is close, and value-priced too. Plus you can get it in a wagon.

You are correct, while a suspension upgrade would be an option, the Torsen would not be available at least at this time. Maybe Subaru will add it to the 2.5 GT in the future? Previous reviews on the '06 Spec.B commented on (decried)the lack of a differential. It seems to be the thing to have.
You could probably go out and get a Quaiffe and have it installed yourself, about $900 for the hardware alone. Kinda pricey, installed, though.

As a rule, I do not like to stray too far from oem mechanicals. Primarily for warranty, operation and maintenance issues/reasons. I appreciate your insight, though.
It's not weight.

Sounds like you're describing my driving and parallel parking style. :shades:

Not a big soccer fan, but all three teams that I was rooting for are out: Japan, USA & Poland.

Tell that to my fitness coach!

Type in your name here, tell me what you get.
As you may know, Brazilians tend to go by a single name, a nick name. Technically, mine would be Airton = diminuitive is Airtinho = shortened to just "Tinho".
But this is pretty funny, what do you get?

I'm with Brenda - can't see a place to type anything. maybe the link has disappeared.
