Drew: too bad that Forester was an L - the alloys would have been a good buy.

(d) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), clear, colorless, and transparent material may be installed, affixed, or applied to the front side windows, located to the immediate left and right of the front seat if the following conditions are met:

However, cops around here in Northern CA sometimes do pull you over for tinting your fronts. My friend got ticketed in Berkeley soon after he arrived from LA. He never had a problem in SoCal.

BTW, did we ever decide if the WRX could tow?
Regarding tints, aren't trucks given more leeway? I know the Forester is technically a car, but I doubt you'd get a hard time from police.
I have Solargard dyed film, yes. Technically, I am not supposed to have the front-side windows tinted, but I guess they assumed it was a truck and they just did it. On my wife's car, they made us sign a release, but note that she had the exact same tint applied (35% all around except windshield).
Anyone see the movie "Finding Forrester"? I think I'll go take a hike in the forest near my house. Maybe I'll paint my room Forest Green too. I'll have to check on my Casio Forester watch to see if I'll have enough time to do all that today! ;-)

In NYS, its the same for cars and trucks.
forward most side windows: 100% (ie:no tint allowed)
anything behind that can be 0% (ie: painted)
Windshield can't have more that 4 or 6 inches of some kind of tint, although I'm not sure if it can be 0% or if it's limited to 5%
When I had my front sides done, they told me that it was illegal.

Laws vary a lot by state.

Maybe what they mean is nothing beyond the factory tint.
I'm not interested in darkening my windows as much as I am in reducing heat transmission. This Subie has the hottest interior of any car I've had in the recent past.

Bit- I got Solargard metallic about a year ago and thus far I'm quite satisfied.

my garage would have:
Porsche Boxster (Red)
VDC Outback (Black)
Impreza WRX (Silver)
(why do I get the feeling this will sound like everyone elses?)
anyway .. I've made it to London, UK. Alive and well, and even survived a week of misadventure. Strangely enough, I have been dreaming about buying a TS or WRX wagon when I get home

As for the average working person's car .. there seem to be an awful lots of beamers and mercedes around. Or.. maybe its just me not noticing the ugly other little boxes
Haven't seen any new model Subarus here yet though.
btw - I'm living just next to the Marble Arch tube station, about 5 minutes walking distance to Hyde Park. If you're ever in town, ring me at 02087527409.
cheers, ash
ps. I think I'm going to keep my flag

One reason you wil see more MB and BMW over there is companies do fleet leases for their employees. Rather than pay them more, they will give them a company car to use. I know about this because a friend of ours used to work for BMW trying to sign up companies. Enjoy the change of scenery.

This might be of interest. I drove from my home to Richmond on one tank of gas. When I filled up I had driven 417 miles and it took 13.7 gallons to fill the tank. That comes out to 30.4 mpg. On the return back home I drove 412 miles and it took 14.7 which averages out to an even 28 mpg. I assume the difference was because I drove faster on the return trip and it was eventually going more up hill. Thought that was pretty good mileage though.

30.4mpg? You must be lovin' life! Especially with gas prices the way they are.
Pine Barrens looks like fun. I was trying to get the house in order for visitors (and earning a few honey-do credits).

How 'bout autocross on Saturday, off road foray Sunday?
Would that be hilarious or what? Doing both in the same vehicle! Maybe we could reverse the order for laughs, since they'd see all the mud.

Anywhere to camp around there?
-juice
It's near the Lebanon State Forest so there's plenty of camping.

I'm sure there is camping around there, could definitely do a weekend trip, it's also not too far from the Jersey shore as well.

I've been on the road for the last week (Worcester, MA and Phoenix, AZ) and am just now checking in. Had an unfortunate run-in with a 10d nail driving back from Phila. Airport Saturday evening. The nail went in right at the shoulder of the right front tire, so it couldn't be repaired. I ended up going to a nearby NTB, having the spare tire removed from the spare wheel and mounted on the alloy where the flat was, then having the tires rotated. The new tire is now on the right rear. I had to order the Yoko Geolandar for the spare wheel so I hope I don't get another flat for the next 3 days.
I'm a little disappointed because I was hoping to replace all 4 Yoko Geolandars at once with tires that are a little better on dry pavement without sacrificing wet and gravel handling. I'm more worried now in that the car is now shod with 3 tires with 22K miles on them and 1 tire with about 10 miles on it. I know someone has addressed this elsewhere but I don't know where, nor am I having luck searching. Am I doing harm to the AWD system by having this combination of tires in place? There's still plenty of tread on the 3 with 22K, but I'm concerned that (1) even miniscule tire diameter differences can wreak havoc and (2) having to replace 4 tires when 1 goes flat can wreak havoc on my wallet and hence, turn me off to long-term Subie ownership.
Thoughts?
