    Made appt. with Doc.
    Meanwhile, I'm stuffing my face.

    Thanks Tom :)

On a sad note. Unemployed again as of yesterday. Nothing to do with weight lose though.

    Dave-

Been a while - sorry to hear about the job. If you want to shoot me your resume (bat1161@aol.com) , I can try and submit to Merrill, although they just announced a hiring freeze till next year except for "certain areas", whatever those are. Probably the youung interns coming out of school :confuse: .

Well here goes nothing. Here's a picture of me back in May in Arizona - figured it was one of the most recent ones for the Diet Challenge :)

Sorry to hear about the job situation Dave. Keep your chin up as I'm sure something will crop up. Look at this as an "opportunity," and not as a "downer." :)

Sorry about the bad news Dave. It's a tough time now. Hope you find something quickly!

Hope you enjoy trying to gain weight! :D

Hey Juice, how's the new Forrester working out for you? Any problem areas with a 1st year model? How's the fuel economy?

I need something more fuel efficient than my SUV but still rugged and functional. I saw a Forrester yesterday and I must say it seems a lot bigger than the last model!

Anyway, just trying to pick your brain.

    Just one "r" newb, LOL

anyhoo, got the estimate on the BG. $2500. A little scary, because there was talk of totalling it when Edmunds came in with a re-sale of $3k. But the BLue Book site came through with $5500, so we are getting it fixed
  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
Oooh, yeah, ouch! :D Thanks for the corrrection. ;)

    So far, so good.

I gave it an OCD wax job after someone put some key marks on 3 panels  , and just put Rain X on all the glass this weekend.

At least it held up better than the Sienna's paint, which did not polish away the scratches like the Subaru's paint did.

We're over 1000 miles, so it's broken in. We can finally use cruise control. I love how the dash says "Cruise" when you turn it on, then "Cruise Set" when you set your speed, all with buttons right on the steering wheel.

Also love the audio buttons on the steering wheel, plus there is a Mute button, which my minivan lacks.

I hit 31.2 mpg this past weekend driving it (all highway) on a trip. Disclaimer: all my miles driving it are highway, it's the wife's car so she does the city miles and commutes. Still she hasn't gotten any less than 24 mpg lately. That plus the bigger gas tank leaves plenty of range.

Complaints? The passenger seat is too low. Raising it even just half inch would help. Also some of the storage nooks are gone, so my 1998 model may have had more of those - the one for coins to the left of the steering wheel for instance.

That's about it, though. My wife complained that the cargo floor was not as long as her old Legacy's, but when I showed her how she could store the cargo cover under the floor she flipped. When you take it out you see that there is more space than meets the eye.

We have not driven it in the cold, but I can't wait to test out the seat heaters and the heated mirrors, not to mention the AWD. When it snows I'll be driving it to work every time, since the wife usually works at home. :shades:

Ah yes - those harsh Maryland winters should give it a real challenge!!

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    :D

If anything, I'd say our winters are very, very inconsistent.

The first year we had the Legacy, it snowed 6 times.

A couple of years since, we've had no measureable snow at all!

It does remain cold for a good 4 months or so, so we should put the seat heaters to good use.

The heated side mirrors work for rain - they clear right up. Pretty amazing. The rain just dries up and they're spotless.
  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
Thanks Juice. I guess it's still too new to see if there are any annoying creaks and rattles or any other first year woes. It's good to see that it gets decent mileage though.

Hope you don't get hit with winter too soon- it seems like we got hit by winter here in Seattle this week. Mid 50s and raining!

welllll ... I've lost 2 pounds according to the scale ...

DH still has a job but he has to go back to the night shifts in a couple of weeks ... we absolutely HATE that schedule and there will be days in a row (3-4) where we will not see one another at all ...

my job is going a bit better this year in spite of traveling between the 2 schools ... I'm spending a LOT MORE TIME in face to face instruction with students instead of all that other stuff I did last year ...

middle daughter (who is living with us) started her college classes this week ... so with her prior credits she has about 2 years to finish a 4 year degree ...

youngest daughter (who was married last January) is pregnant and due sometime near the end of April ... this will be number 6 for me ... DH maintains he is too young to be a grandpa - in spite of the 50th bday looming in September, and he has the kids call him "grand poohbah" ...

local university called on Monday night (1st class day of the semester) and asked if I could teach a class again this fall... same one I taught last fall ... good thing since class starts tomorrow night !

I could still come to chat on Thursday night if I just REMEMBER after I get home from the class ....

    there ya go ... that's life ...

A few owners have complained about some noises, check in the 2009 Forester thread. It may be us getting used to the firmer suspension, or v1.0 issues.

What is amazing, though, is how many are being sold, and how many new people pop in on the "What did you Pay?" thread. I took last week off, and found myself congratulating 6 or 7 new owners.

So the Forester threads are very busy these days. When I got back, for instance, that thread had the most unread posts of all the ones I subscribe to (all Subaru, all Sienna, and all Miata threads).

In the 08 I had the cruise and set lights would not dim with the dash and were quite eye-burning at night. Next time you remember see if they dim with the dash lights.

I guess cold is relative. Here in New England, it'll get down below zero and I do like the seat heaters at those temps. Above 25 and I typically don't bother with them.

My DW OTOH, hits the button anytime it gets below 45!!
  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 17,728
Haha, yeah, my rule is if my legs start growing ice crystals before the interior of the car warms up, I use the seat heaters. :P

It is frigid up there, my thin Brazilian blood just can't handle it! :D

Seriously, we used to go up to visit my in-laws for Thanksgiving, but it's just too cold up in CT in November. We try to go when it's warmer now.

BRRR. I get cold just thinking about it. The air off the Long Island sound is brisk baby!

PS I checked and the cruise lights do *not* dim with the dash. The radio and the trip computer/clock displays all do, however.

    thanks for your thoughts :)

    My chin is held high.

    I sensed it coming...
Changing of the guards at the top level and different vision of company direction.

They couldn't knock me on my performance, so they dug for something else.

I'll find something else. Had always been able to adapt.

Remember a while ago, chipmunks chewed through the ignition wires on Sandy, my old Forester?

Get this - they're back. They chewed up the wiring harness on my Sienna!

    More details in the Cafe.

    THOSE ^%$#@ CHIPMUNKS!

You need a "real" cat, Juice. [edit - just saw your Pet post - hope Hadji is doing ok!]

    Congrats Paisan!

Gained 2 pounds, but just got back from a six day road trip to the NW coast and ate lots of junk food (but lots of fish too). Next week I go back to the Southeast for my annual BBQ fix, so there's not much hope for losing any poundage anytime soon.

Weight loss hint - wear pants with belts and snug them up. You'll feel fuller (or at least uncomfortable around the middle) - you can stuff yourself all day wearing sweatpants so save them for Thanksgiving. :shades:
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yeah, Hadji is 105 in dog years so we're not sure how much longer he'll have. We just want to make that time comfortable for him.

Here's a link to that thread...

Wow, what an up and down weekend we had.

First, the chipmunks invade our minivan, doing $740 in damage.

Then, on the way to the vet, we see a Blockbuster/Nintendo tent, and find out it's a family Wii tournament. We enter the event and guess what?

We actually won the whole thing! 1st place! We got a free Wii Fit (perfect for the Subaru Crew Diet Challenge), plus 52 free movie rentals, plus another 2 free movie rentals and T-shirts for the whole family. Probably $350 or more worth of prizes.

My son had the high score for the day in Tennis (and he's only SIX), while my daughter got the high score in Boxing and did well in Bowling. I added a record score in Golf, plus I tied for the record in Baseball. They tracked high scores so as a family we did extremely well, beating the 2nd place family by almost 10% in the final score. :shades:

They held a corny little "medals" event, but to my 6 year old he felt more or less like Michael Phelps, it was hysterical.

It was all bittersweet because Hadji was at the vet the whole time, and while he's doing a bit better, we know he's probably only got a short time left in his life.

Sorry to hear of the issues with Hadji, but now we know what Juice is doing when not posting at Edmunds ;-). Must be harder to diguise from the boss when you're swinging nunchuck controllers around!!!

looks like fun .. and I'm sure the kids had a blast beating out the 'older' kids .. LOL

we took a 'road trip' for the Labor Day weekend ... drove to Columbus OH for no particular reason and stayed at the Hampton for 2 nights ... ate, slept, watched TV, shopped, and repeat ... well .. maybe a few more activities for the 'folks away from the kids' ... lol

we had a great weekend ... celebrating DH's bday which is a bit later this month (his 50th), our 10th anniversary of meeting in Sept, and our wedding anniversary comes up in Oct ... we enjoyed it a lot ...

we took the Subaru as his "towne house" needs some work ... as we left to return home the "check engine" light appeared ... It's off now .. we think he just didn't tighten the gas cap as well as he should have when he put gas in it shortly before the light came on ...

I know it's only Tuesday, but we have to throw a wide net to make sure we reach Pat:)

The Mazda Club Chat is on tonight. The chat room opens at 8:45PM ET Hope to see YOU there! Check out the schedule
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yeah, I stopped in for fun, had no idea we'd have a chance to win. I thought those teenagers were ringers and would beat us easily. Not so.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
OK, looks like SoA has offered up at least a couple of tchotchskies, so game on.

    Edmunds promised a T-shirt, too.

If only my kids would let me play the Wii Fit! They're monopolizing it.
  • bat1161bat1161 Member Posts: 1,784
Congrats Mike on the house! Is that one of the new way points during the 48hrs? ;)

Juice - sorry to hear about Hadji - I know what it's like to watch a pet who is a member of the family (for us they are our kids) who is slowly getting declining. All the best for him, and you and the family.
On the topic of the Forester, all I can say is nice mileage! I wish the OB got that high :( . As for the chipmunks, maybe it's time to scream "Alvin!" to get rid of them?

My wife and I just spent the long weekend traveling around upstate NY. Wound up putting on about 1100 miles (finally broke 30K after almost 3 years) while going around to Cooperstown (stayed at the B&B that has put us up during the 48hrs Charity Drive), Corning/Elmira NY (never knew so much aeronautical history was in the area -defintiely have to go back), Syracuse area, then back home. I was happy to average 23.28 mpg during the trip and except for burning trough a little over a quart of oil and haing the tpms light constantly coming on it was a great drive.

The bad part of the long weekend was putting on a few pounds ( the innkeeper in Cooperstown bakes like crazy and everything is GREAT!!!) so the diet is going so-so. The good thing is a friend agreed to do a bicycle ride with me coming up in 2 weeks so at least I won't be riding alone.

Is it too late to join in??

Hey, did we decide on a final weigh-in day? Bi-weekly or at least monthly updates are a good idea too as they keep the topic fresh and is shown to increase motivation and compliance.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
You guys can still join in. I need a current weight, though, for each.

Since we're getting a late start, let's say the weigh in just before Thanksgiving is just to see who is in the lead.

The final weigh in will have to be at the end of the year, Dec. 31.
