I may have mentioned in here before that I also have some other 'early technology' at my house. I have an antique player piano with all of the original 'pumping' mechanism that must be made of lead because that stinking piano weighs a TON! But it all works and we have lots of music 'rolls' for it as well.
I see no discrepancy between having the modern geeky things and these antiques. After all, they were forward thinking technology at the time!
I was introduced to this hobby by my uncle in the late 1960's, and the Victor that I used to play with as a child now sits in the corner of our dining room. A gift before he passed away 10 years back. Over the years I've bought and sold units, rebuilt the mechanicals and refinished cases. I used to have to travel down to Edison, NJ to the nearest trade show, but a few years back a great show settled into a venue less than 35 miles away. http://www.intertique.com/ And of course, anything is available over the internet.
I have a few radios as well, but prefer the mechanical whirring to exploding old paper capacitors!
These antiques were the super high end technological marvels of their day. Possibly why I'm drawn to them.
My parents bought the piano in about 1963-4 for me to take lessons. When they bought it, it was in pieces in several different rooms. The piano was being rebuilt. It has all the original mechanisms in place, but the also added an electric motor - so it can be played without the physical pumping if you want. The pumping is EXCELLENT exercise!
I have blocked the bank card, but I have it in my possession. Not sure how the transaction was 'stolen' ... GRRRRRRR will call the bank 1st thing in the morning. Have already emailed the info since that's all I can do on a Sunday afternoon.
Cheers Pat.
Still ... not GOOD!
That germ laden, maybe counterfeit, can't cancel it if you lose it stuff?
Since moving to a small town where many of the shops and cafes don't take plastic, we've been hitting the ATM at least once a week. In the old days we'd just charge everything (and get air miles).
Have to admit, it's pretty nice having a VISA bill come in that's half what we were used to paying.
Now for the weird part... Within a day, a personal charge card (number only - the card never left my wallet) suddenly took on a life of it's own as well. Did the bad guys somehow tap into some resource and cross-reference my ID? Visa was pretty good about those charges (took maybe a little more than with AMEX, but not bad), and we had replacement cards from both companies with two days. We put a new credit freeze with the agencies, and so far all has been quiet.
Plastic is a risk, but I really don't know how to live without it. Travel is near impossible if you don't possess one (good luck buying airline tickets or renting a car), and Paypals will only get you so far on internet shopping (of which I'm a confirmed addict...).

Huge news for them, it's like David just slayed several Goliaths.
The news will headline the April Issue so the marketing value is enormous. This is the kind of thing that gets people to automatically say "just get a Subaru" when asked for a recommendation.
Apparently the new Impreza soared in the ratings and is now their top pick among small cars.
#2 was .... well, who cares, right?

When you have experienced ownership, meaning those who have owned more than one vehicle of a given brand, isolated bad ownership experiences are more likely to be tempered by perspective. That is not so with "converts."
The CVT is a question mark, we'll see.
Should mention we do have the BB tablet. Liked it for it's smaller size which makes it easy to drop in a purse and even some of my coat pockets. It's best functionality has been as our new camcorder. Fantastic for the ability to record a swim race and really watch at the same time.
It did work ok, but the whole kit weighed in at over 2 lbs and that defeats the purpose of a tablet IMHO.
I've seen roll-up keyboards at those stores but can't vouch for them.
I have a Kindle Fire that I love for portability and the 'few' things I want to do away from the desktop / netbook.
I ordered the keyboard yesterday and it was here when I got home today. Easy and fast to hook up and once it's 'paired' with the iPad I don't have to redo that step unless I'm pairing it with other devices, which I probably won't be doing. Only played with it a bit, but it seems big enough.
Now I'll be looking at apps for word processing, spreadsheets, etc. There are some free apps that got some pretty good reviews so I'll probably be trying those out in the next few days to see how they work.
I'm in South Bend. I live about 10 miles or so from the Michigan state line. The storms were near Louisville in the southern part of the state. I was worried about Ed for awhile. Doesn't he (or didn't he) live in Evansville?
Cheers Pat.
Action & reaction, the unintended consequences....
