Thanks for sharing your photographs. Really sharp truck. For all that is said about black being difficult to keep clean, etc., there is nothing else that looks as "cool" as a black truck. I love my Amber Fire, but I do appreciate black.

i paid just over 800 installed on my r-n-l. i love it, it locks the tailgate and has 4 positions, closed, 1/4 open. 1/2 open and open and all lock but open doesnt.

fat fenders i think you may have looked at the heavy duty series r-n-l it does sell for about twice as much but its not aluminum, its a heavier grade of steel and you can stand on it up to 250 lbs. that may have been the one you were thinking of, i paid about 695.00 + install for mine. the dakota uses the v-series that is just like the pe being that it is covered by a vinyl material and has aluminum slats.

both are great covers, i just chose the r-n-l because it locked the tailgate and top with one lock.

FF: I think the $305 I mentioned should have been $395 and that was for the Line-X spray application. Not to install the cover. They quoted me $695 for the Roll n Lock plus $100 to install, so the same as henne in post #126. I'm leaning toward the rnl for the same reason as henne - the tailgate lock is built into the cover and you don't pay an extra chrage like the P-E. I am handy with tools and like doing installs myself - just depends on the nature of the job versus the time- management issue. RNL looks really easy, according to the literature, cuz there's no drilling. Just clamps. That's the deal with that access cover. Those guys sent me an entire video on their product and it looks great! Only problem is it's a soft cover that can be easily gouged open by some dumb thug, which we have an endless supply of here in Southern California. The other big plus for the access is no container at the front of the bed to eat up even more bed space. Some clever home inventor should dream up the perfect bed cover - indestructible, lightweight, water and weather proof, that takes up less than 1% of the total bed space when retracted or folded or somehow made invisible! Yeah, I know, it's only a pickup. But, we can dream can't we?

think I'll go call D/C and see if ol Ernie has come back from his extended vacation - I wanna know where my truck is!

One more thing, FF: did you look into the Pace-Edwards electric cover? It retracts via a key fob and costs a lot more.

Thanks for the update on pricing. I wasn't aware Roll-N-Lock had two models. The fact the R-N-L locks tailgate at same time is nice. I may go with Pace Edwards power tailgate lock so I can unlock w/power door locks.

This discussion should probably go to accessories.

    Here's my updated photos website:

Again, make sure you use the entire address. (http through html)

Thanks for the updated photos. Do you notice any light reduction with the headlight covers? I like the way they look but am concerned about visibility.

Now I need to get new photos taken of mine. Maybe if we keep updating (without competing) we can get others to jump in and show off their quad.

    Keep that black quad shining!

I live in Wisconsin and I know some of this state's finest, frown upon to headlight covers at ANY time. They are easily removable so I take them off for night driving. I did however, forget to take them off earlier in the week and drove about 3 blocks home, just to see what it was like.

Well, it's like driving with dark sunglasses on at night. Even though the light seems bright when out in front of the truck, looking at it, when driving, it's like driving with your parking lights on. There's just not enough light coming through to light anything beyond about 20 feet.

Bad is good! My cute response was for your Ford website, lol. I need to learn how to read in detail. Now that I have I gotten to your Quad page. Looks great. I too would have gotten Black but since my last 4 vehicles were Black I decided I needed a change. I wanted something that doesn't show the dirt or swirls and wasn't as hot in the summer. White did make a difference in all categories mentioned.

Also, I'm thinking about headlight and tail light covers. GTS mask for the front and sum 45% slots for the back. Plan on matching paint too since blackout is not an option for the sake of contrast. Any opinions on these?

Had trouble accessing your new Quad photo site. Only saw the Ford, which was pretty sweet. I love those old F series compared to the ones now. What's the URL for your Quad site so I can share in the fun. BTW: called D/C today and my Quad arrived in Cali last Friday. Just waiting for it to be trucked to the dealership but they have no idea how or when that'll happen. Should be end of next week I'm guess, or earlier.

This is my old Ford with ALL the pictures...

This is a shortened web address for the Quad that should work better...

    http://www.geocities.com/fat_fenders/quad.html

Please let me know if this works better. Sorry for all the posts!

PS. BobbyT - I think getting clear headlight covers (or even smoked) and painting them to match the color of the truck would look awesome. That's what I would do if my Quad wasn't black!

For those of us who don't have a web page to link to, how do we post a jpg. directly onto the board. I tried cut & paste but to no avail. all the previous directions seem to describe linking to web pages.
  • nortx01qcnortx01qc Member Posts: 37
It looks like you are attempting to create a link to your computers C drive. You don't want to do that!

Get an account on Yahoo and go through their page builder program. If I can do it, anyone can. (now if I could just figure out the update stuff.)

Good luck and look forward to some pics.
  • fat_fendersfat_fenders Member Posts: 96
My web page is through GeoCities which I believe is linked with yahoo. Go into it like you're creating a whole new page and at one of the first screens, you will have the option of editing an existing page from a drop-down menu in the middle of the page. Yours I think, is titled "Myquad".

As you step through the page build, just change the pics or text as you're prompted. When you get to the end, you'll have the option of selecting a new address extension or keeping the same one. Please post the new address so we can check out updated pics.

    Good luck.

I especially liked the look of the toneau cover with the rest of the truck. Very clean fit, like it was OEM (was it?) you've inspired me to do the same for my new 4x4 baby. what was the uplink procedure once the photos are scanned in???

asta - The tonneau is an add-on made by Stockland out of Irvine CA. www.stockland.com It has a real nice 'carpeted' liner on the underside and I really like its fit and low profile. It was kind of high priced ($700) and the wait...... Still need to adjust the fit as it hangs to the left too much for me. Liner goes on monday - update again then.
As far as the upload, geocites has a real good 'file manager' section that allows for easy uploads. Created the page on my pc and then uploaded new page and photos. Don't care for the way their "builder" reduced the photos in previous attempt. Photos tell it all!

ohc_baby - The radio is the RBK - AM/FM/CD w/changer controls. And yes it sound great!

    Thank You Bookitty!!!

Just wondering as tuvtest was,on how pic could be inserted in dialog box after text. One example was post # 85 the photo is right here, no web page links. That was what I was trying to do without success. The poster was Bobemoto, also saw a couple of others that did it. Thanks.

go back to the very first messages in this topic. They covered what you are asking. Rick
  • tuvtesttuvtest Member Posts: 237
After rereading post #1, It still appears that you need a web page to do this as they refer to HTTP addresses, links and "pictures from the web". Without a page to link too, that does not seem possible.
  • nortx01qcnortx01qc Member Posts: 37
You can get a FREE web page from geocities. Just sign up for a FREE Yahoo account and then go through their FREE stuff until you find something about FREE web sites. They will take you into a program that runs through a series of options, uploads your photos and 'BAM' your done.

This all sounds generic but it is rather easy IMO.

    Give it a try.
  • bobsyveebobsyvee Member Posts: 63
Tuvtest, you are correct. In order to have the picture appear in the post, you have to first have a picture on a web page, or some other web accessible server. Then you need to type html code into the post that refers to the picture itself. If you're using IE right click on the screen and click "View Source". Now it gets real hard. There is a lot of coding, but you can follow it to where a posted picture is. Just copy that code but using the link to your picture. It starts with "<img src=". Thats how I posted my pictures. (except 2 scribbles due to mis-spelling in the code)

I couldn't figure out any way to stick the picture directly on the Edmunds site either. Email allows that through multi-part forms, but web pages have to reference another link on the web. To get the post into this forum try this:

New Hampshire has a total of two Mercedes Dealerships. As an owner of two Mercedes Benz automobiles, both were purchased at the Exeter NH store. I caution anyone considering the purchase of a Mercedes to look elsewhere for the dream machine of their choice. As a customer of the Exeter store, I have experienced poor service and support from the service department. There have
been many instances of errors made by the Mercedes service center. The issues I have experienced (but not limited to):

    1) Scheduling appointments at their web site and not having the appointment scheduled on their end. In this instance, I received confirmation from the dealership by way of a direct reply from one of their representatives. Then on the day of the appointment, the writer is surprised to see me -- no appointment scheduled.

    2) Requesting parts be ordered for my Mercedes that are clearly defective and arriving for the appointment just to be told they don't have the parts, didn't order them and I'll have to return for yet another visit. In my case, it was a defective CD Changer and mirror. Both of which were clearly defective.

    3) I had a bumper cover replaced. This required painting the bumper cover to match the vehicle color. The paint job was surprisingly good. They mounted the bumper too high and after 2-3 weeks of driver, the vibration caused the bumper cover to rub on the lower edge of the hood and wore off the paint on the hood. This clearly demonstrates poor quality assurance. I returned for a "less than perfect" repair.

    4) The latest episode was for a tire repair. While the service center was able to plug the tire punctured from a nail, the technician scored the silver painted wheel between the lug nuts as they rushed around the wheel locking onto each nut. Not
only was the wheel scored, chips in the finish were added at no additional cost.

This demonstrates a clear lack of caution, careful respect and consideration for the own of a 50,000 dollar vehicle.

After much frustration, I complained stating the issue and that the service department simple 'sucked'. As a result of this complain, the Service Manager asked me to leave the dealership to seek service at another dealer. Not only did they ask me to leave, but they told the Mercedes Benz dealer the damage to my wheel was already there -- they did not cause the damage. The regional Mercedes service representative offered this news to me after I contacted the Mercedes customer service line. The moral of this story is, not only does the Exeter NH Mercedes dealer not perform quality work on a quality vehicle, they lie about the mistakes they make and insinuate the customer is the liar.

I recommend shopping for a good service department before buying a Mercedes at the Exeter NH store.

  • astaasta Member Posts: 122
he has a picture of the vehicle he wished he had instead of that New Hampshire Benz tucked away in his glove box. Pulls it out whenever his Benze has to go in for service. Stares longingly at a snapshot of a...

2001 Dodge Quadcab 4x4 SLT in black. Someday, when his Beze finally gives up the ghost, he'll post that photo after he's bought his truck.

Eric, this link (http://www.geocities.com/stang460_67/d2.html) produced almost immediately, a blue screen background and the upper right hand photo (3/4) of your beautiful Intense Blue Quad complete wirh bed rail and emergency vehicle light bar. The second photo (front view) appeared some minutes later and subsequently after considerable time elapsed the other photos started to show their faces. Now Eric, you must understand that I am at our beach house on an island in NJ and my "good" access telephone connection yields 24,000 bps. That is the "biggie." The photographs are very good with some great detail. The site is slow, especially here on the Island. Thanks for sharing.

Rick, once again your Midwest attitude towards us "rich guys" becomes blatantly obvious. So, with that in mind, forget about me sending you any photos of a Rolls Royce and that includes every single Rolls that I currently own. I know that this will prove to be a hard lesson Rick, but you have brought it upon yourself. So there!!!

    Bookitty
  • iowabigguyiowabigguy Member Posts: 552
Was it that obvious?? Nothing worse than a rich guy in his __________ (fill in blanks here ie. Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, Benz, Lexus, Audi, you get the idea) crying because the plebians are not sucking up to him in the manner he is accustomed.

Now if one of the Quad owners have a problem I can work up a little compassion as long as they are not whiners ( as opposed to weiners). Notice I didn't include Jaguars in my above list in deference to an unnamed individual who lives in the land of ice cubes and pine trees. It probably doesn't run long enough to make it to the dealer for crappy service. Rick
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
Okay Rick, I sort of accept your explanation. But,
you won't be able to see our Rolls. My wife used it to drive down the lane of our estate to take out the garbage. It's a very long trip and she usually overnights at the carriage house. We have another Rolls somewhere, but I seem to have misplaced it. Besides, you will have enough trouble dealing with Andy when he reads your post.
Gotta go now, it's time to count the servants.

It's a bike rack. It holds 4 full size bikes if you alternate them one facing forward one back, etc. We always do a lot of biking on our camping trips. I have another custom bike rack that holds 3 bikes in the back of my quad for the weekend bike trips.

nortx01qc - I like that stockland cover, I do have a question... I've seen a lot of covers with the 2 locks at the rear corners. This may seem like a silly question, but do you have to keep it locked when you are driving, or are they just there for those occasions that you want to lock the cover. Is it a pain to unlock from both corners? Seems like most of the low profile models favor this design.
  • resqmanresqman Member Posts: 71
I have an ARE cap with a single T-Handle on the rear door. I have driven with the handle in the open position and the closed position, both locked and unlocked. The door has never opened on its own to date with the handle in the open position during on-road conditions.

I have the WinDoors on the side windows that have 2 T-handles. I have driven with the handle in the open, closed unlocked and closed locked. Again no opening on their own. All openings have shocks to help lift and hold open the windows. The shocks also tend to hold the windows closed.

Having 2 handles on the side windows is a tad more effort than a single handle. Not much. I like having a single handle on the rear door.

The only issue I had was upon delivery the side handles and the rear handle were keyed differently. I had the dealer switch cylinders on the rear handle so all five were all keyed alike. The cylinder for the rear handle is upside down relative to the side handles so I have to remember to turn the key over when locking or unlocking all the handles. Minor annoyance.
  • nortx01qcnortx01qc Member Posts: 37
Thanks for looking at my quad.

While the shocks used to keep the cover up are very strong and would probably keep the cover closed going down the road, I keep it locked at all times. I paid too much for it to take a chance on it popping up and getting damaged. Also if you keep it unlocked, to easy for a 'quick removal' for someone wanting it.

As far as two locks, I don't find it to be any trouble. They are two small locks in each corner that turn into a tab to hold it down. Also there is no linkage going side to side to get bumped or damaged (am assumption of ARE - sorry if incorrect). I will attempt to get a couple photos of locks and post them on web page. Will advise when up there.

My Dakota got it's first test in 4 wheel drive. My brother has a F-350 4x4 and got stuck. He gave me a call, so I could bail him out. Thought I'd share a few pics. I was very impressed with the truck's performance except the tires, which should be my next upgrade. Enjoy.
