wantaquad: hey did you get your QC for 250 over or 400 over invoice at the TO dealer you told me about. I was a bit confused by a post of yours a few days back and when I checked out your invoice I saw advertising charges??? I'm going to call that dealer this week and I want to make sure I get my facts right when I mention your name as a recent customer and what you got it for, etc. Congrats BTW! Sounds like you're really happy with the new interior. Did you ever get a chance to see the new silver color? I like the bronze a lot and that's probably what I'll go for. Curious about silver, though. Thanks!

the person i talked to will be on vacation for 1 week after today......
everyone, no matter what price they pay for a truck will pay advertising....it's a manufacture cost....everyone everywhere....
and, yes, i paid 250 over invoice nothing more, nothing less (well, Bill Clinton got his cut and so did the state, but....)
you want to ask for Nathan......he will do you good......

bookitty: I thought that was the case, I rememeber the overhead convenience group having the same one as the base quad, but I haven't looked at that option since March. The built-in unit is cupped inward and has three buttons from left to right.
asta: The difference is my perception. I haven't measured yet. The feel of the interior is a more subdued classy effect to me. Some will like it, some won't. Its like the style difference between the Supercrew and the Sportrak. One is more subtle than the other. As far as the fascia goes, compared to the cost of the truck and the dealer accessories, the $150 is not much, but I agree that Dodge needs to start making them factory painted.
  • steve234steve234 Member Posts: 460
BTW, the new quads are coming with the child restraints already mounted, instead of dealer mounted on request. My niece says that the 01 and on models are all going to be that way by regulation.

LSD = Limited Slip Differential, [Insert funny illegal substance joke here]

Dealer called today, said my truck finally made it on a train. She said 14 days for delivery from MI to Kerrville, TX. I sure hope that is a generous estimate. I'll try to restrain from posting until I've got some pics to post.
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
Steve, my '00 does not have three button indentation. It is simply a spring loaded door that has a series of stacking pegs that make contact with my velcro installed opener. It works one push at a time. The '01 sounds a wee bit more up-scaled than mine.

I thought it was different when I read about it in the manual. I wonder if that is the new Homelink system they mention in the changes. I may need to go into details about that later. Right now I have to get a stick of dynamite so I can pry my wife out of the Quad.
  • victxvictx Member Posts: 108
Dealer told me today the Farm Bureau discount only applies to 2000 Dakotas at this time. It does not apply to 2001 Dakotas.

Well it finally happened, a woman in a Ford Contour backed into me! The car was low slung and hit the lower fascia just below the bumper popping the paint loose and leaving a couple of small scratches. Doh!!
I got an estimate, family friend runs an excellent body shop. $338.80 of her insurance companies money. She started to pull out and make a right turn and then decided all of the sudden that reverse was where she wanted to be. Get this, she was on her way from the dealer to pay for her car which was getting fixed because she backed into someone else and was driving a rental car! Does anybody ever use the mirrors or look over there shoulder anymore?
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
Sorry to hear of your recent problem. It is perfectly obvious that you know nothing of the Braille School of Driving, a higher institution of
vehicle operation. I am certain that the woman who backed into you has graduated with honors. Section 1, Line 38 Specifically states: Proper Braille Method For Driving In Reverse, and I quote: "Place shift selector (there is always a shift selector, as 5 speed manuals are not recognized) in reverse. Close eyes and back up until you hear glass and/or smell blood." Please, do not try this at home. For professionals only.

I bought a new tandem axle trailer and had an electric trailer brake gizmo installed under the dash (by them). The brakes were terrible from the git-go. They'd work or not, loose or hard, etc. I couldn't set the gain right in the cab for love nor money. Finally just left the trailer at the house for a couple of days figuring I'd get back to it later. Bad idea.

After two days of non-trailering and TERRIBLE brake (and oddly, accelerator) response I was about ready to take it back and tell them to take it out and refund my money. BUT the kids wanted me to pick them up and take them to the mall - it IS the Quad Cab. A totally, sorry, rotten idea.

I pulled off the loop and hit the brakes to slow down at the turn in at the mall. No brakes. Something or someone O:-) made me reach down and pull the floormat sharply towards the seat. My mind had a split second to think of something like a mat bunching up behind the pedals... Anyway, it worked - until I finally got it stopped behind a big ol Chrysler car of some sort at the turn-in. Then the brakes simply 'quit' as I was trying to put it into park and get out to take a look. #-(

    Oopsy.

I rear-ended the big ol boat at about 5 mph (but no airbags). Then he got out, came back between the cars, looked down, looked up at me, shrugged his shoulders, got back in and drove off. All right! No ticket! No damage! Yippee! What luck!

    Not.

I s-l-o-w-l-y pulled into the parking lot and looked at the damage. My whole lower valance was drooping on the right ($475), foglight destroyed ($95), etc. etc. ($500 more). Mortified, I grabbed the floormat and ripped it out of the truck. Guess what? An 18" long (not kidding) HUGE metal Maglite fell out. Hot as a two dollar pistol and dim as a 5W bulb. It had been used by the installer - wedged up under the dash, and ON for extra light - to help him install the brake controller. It had fallen down, and in degrees I guess over a couple of days, wedged behind my pedals and finally snafued my brakes totally. Bad dog. Bad, BAD dog.

Yep, they're paying for it. Nearly as much as the #$@% trailer cost. Why can't my life be normal.

called CSX on mon. and the truck arrived at the rail yard. called dealer mon. eve. and he said that he would call on tues. to the hauler and tell him that it is a "hot" vehicle. called tues. afternoon, and was told that it would be on the next hauler. he is faxing up the paperwork this morning so i can settle my financing. i hope to have the truck by tommorow afternoon.

victx-when i called cust. serv. at DC they said that average shipping time is 11 days. if mine arrives at the dealer today then it will only be 7. so talk to your salesman and track the rail car if at all possible and this will speed up the delivery process.

i will post after i recieve the QC. and let you alll know what i think, and maybe post some pics if i have time between showing it around and going camping on sat.

Funny, I also called state FB yesterday and asked about '01 discounts. They said yes, but check with dealer on amount. I called dealer, they checked and called back and said yes, but only $300 instead of $500. This is in CO. Guess we both better re-check.

Just turned 10,000 miles this morning. Wow, 10K since 3/18. My hows the miles fly by. :)
No problems to report, still just as happy as can be.
Mileage update (2wd 4.7 5spd 3.55lsd) including 3 camping trips pulling a 14' popup camper (~1,000 miles), my overall mileage is 20.3 MPG. I have really noticed after 7K a mileage boost. Maybe I'm not showing off as much any more. Best tank so far was 23.6 MPG (502 miles on that tank).

themacguy - sorry to hear about the truck.
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
David, I wrote to the PA Farm Bureau via E mail, and explicitly asked if the $500.00 discount is currently available on 2001 Dodge trucks. I'll post the reply.

Jack, in retrospect it could have had a much unhappier ending, considering that the kids were in the vehicle. Thank God that it was not worse. Another day in the eventful life of "themacguy." Glad that it turned out okay. Hey! Has anyone seen my Maglite?

Well I finally got my Quad back from my wife. First she tricked me into using it to take some things to school that would not fit into her Grand Cherokee. Then she need me to drive her Jeep to see if there was a weird sound coming from the engine. Well after three day the only weird is that I am still driving the Jeep. She loves the truck, one comment she has made is man does this thing have some power. I told her we could trade her Jeep in and get one with the 4.7 so I could get my truck back. The only problem with her driving my truck was the gas mileage. When I was driving it I was getting 16.3 per gal., she gave it back to me and the average dropped to 15.2. I asked her who the heck she had been racing. She claimed that she drove it as normal as possible, that funny she is avg. 20.2 in her Jeep. Oh well at-least it came back in one piece. Well back to getting my mileage up, talk to everyone later

OK, so I'm obsessed. Judging from this crowd, I'll get forgiveness for this condition.

Noticed the sticker on the '01 had a lower MPG rating of 13/17mpg instead of 14/19. This was for the 4.7L/automatic. I wondered about it, but forgot to mention it when testdriving and obsessing about interior changes.

Talking to a dealer in MT today, he claims another untouted change to the '01 is that the 4.7L is now 50-state legal on emissions, due to a derating of HP (he thought 5HP) and extra smog equipment that drops mileage down to noted lower rating.

Great. Another thing to go ballistic over. Somebody get me a sedative!
  • tpmillertpmiller Member Posts: 45
And here I was just about ready to get electric brake controller installed. Guess I'll have to have 'em tape a cellphone to the light and make them call after completed.
Bookitty- you running a braille driving school now? I'd be interested to know what the Farm Bureau says, something doesn't sound right.

Consider your self lucky to have a cool JGC to drive when the wife takes the truck.

I am getting ready (took a week to mentally prepare) for "trading" vehicles with my wife. I have a 00 QC/ 5.9/ 4WD loaded...she has a "cherry" 93 Ply Acclaim 4dr / 4cyl. I have to take it to the mechanic for AC repair.

I sure hope he is good on his promise of 1 day service!!

I am going thru withdrawl already..
  • steve234steve234 Member Posts: 460
When I picked up my 01, the sticker said 14/19. I can see no change in power and so far my mileage is looking decent. I have the 4.7/auto and 3.92. I assume that you must be looking at 4wd and it could be last year they did not test the 4wd and used the 2wd results.

Bookitty thanks a lot I got a good laugh out of that one!

themacguy you are lucky you didn't get killed!
I would have returned that flashlight, he would need it where I would put it!

Luckily I have a good body shop guy who has done lots of customizing work to my little brothers Dakota regular cab.

Taking it back to the dealer tomorrow to check out the posessed door lock problem,of course it hasn't acted up since so I wonder if they will be able to fix it!

It's the "see your Dodge Truck dealer for eligibility requirements and program details" that bothers me.

I placed my '01 order in early June then the dodge website was saying the FB discount would end 7-31-00. My truck was built 7-19 and the dealer got the invoice and sent out for the rebate before the truck arrive so I would beat the 7-31 deadline. Then yesterday they called me and said DC rejected the rebate request because 'the discount only applies to 2000 model Dakotas'. So I called the 800-4ADODGE and asked if the rebate applies to 2001 Dakotas and they said no, only 2000 models.

Believe me, I want you to be right and me to be wrong, but where do I go from here?

I have had my quad cab for 5 months now (3800 miles). I took it in today to have a liner put in and on the way to the shop my check engine light came on and stayed on for the full ride about 30 min. When I got their I checked the engine and let it cool down and then started the engine again and it still came on. Has anyone experienced this problem or heard anything of it?

Bookitty, sorry I read your post too fast and thought you were saying the discount should apply to 2001.
I thought for sure they didn't specify the model year on the website, but who knows I could be wrong. Maybe they changed it recently, maybe it's been that way for a while. Anyway, looks like no discount at this time on 2001 model Dakotas.
  • tpmillertpmiller Member Posts: 45
personally I think dodge is making a mistake by not offering the rebate on 01's. Is DC telling me they aren't going to be able to clean out the '00's so they're not offering the rebate on 01's till all 00's are sold? This is pennywise and pound foolish.
I'm no marketer but one would think you'd want to get all the daks you can out on the road, where they'll help sell more, asap.
In the interests of full disclosure, I've been a FB member for years and am all for anything that helps this orgainization.

want1bad / steve234 - my 2000 4.7/auto/3.55 has 15/20 == LOL == on its sticker. I think it gets pretty close to that when 'it's out-standing in it's field.' DOH! Anyway, probably has something to do with the rear axle ratio or something.

blademan1 - the 4.7/auto combo is the smoothest and bsest running I've EVER seen over its first 22k miles of very hard use/abuse. That is AFTER the funny little noises it made when adjusting to my driving style (or lack of) during the first 800 miles or so.

splinter2415 - my check engine light kept coming on after I'd fill up (I kept my magnetic spare key holder in the recessed gas cap area), until someone here told me the %$@# thing comes on whenver the gas cap doesn't properly seal. I took it (the spare key dealy) out and Voila! it stopped - until I fried my electric fan relay... Anyway, loose stuff can cause this type of thing too.

a_j - wherest thee be? Anyone else know?

Vic, Tim, I actually copied the posting (289)from the Dodge site www.4adodge.com. I have not received a reply from the PA Farm Bureau, but from what I read on the Dodge site, it does not look promising. I agree with Tim 100% as now there are more choices when it comes to a four door truck. I hope that D/C also agrees with Tim.

Guys, I have got to get this off my chest. We have been enjoying low gas prices here in OK after several months of .20 above the national average. A week ago, the gas here in Stillwater was the lowest in the nation (1.199). That is the good news. What has me PO is thatafter several says at 1.199, the gas went to 1.299 for two-three days and then down to 1.249. Yesterday, at 10:00 am, I watched them lower the gas at one station to 1.209 while I waited for the light. I'm thinking, its about time to gas up and I'll do it this weekend. I head to work this AM and that same station is at 1.349. Luckily, QT is still at 1.209 and I got filled before work (15.6 mpg), but this is ridiculous that they cannot even go 24 hours between price changes. To those who are wishing they had these gas prices, remember that we are also having 100+ weather.
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
Steve, paid the bargain price this morning of $1.619 in PA. In NJ, the best I've seen and/or paid is $1.429. We have been having temperatures in the 90's. My question is: Can gasoline be E-mailed?

Went back to the dealer this morning before work and wrote the numbers off the stickers. These are for 4WD quad cabs comparing '00 to '01 model years.

    The '00 4.7L 4spd auto 4WD is rated at 235HP@4800RPM, and rated at 14/19MPG city/hwy.

    The '01 4.7L 4spd auto 4WD is rated at 230HP@4800RPM, and rated at 13/18MPG city/hwy.

Also, the '01 has a new "smog index" rating on the sticker, absent from '00. Dealer also claims 4.7L is now "50 state emmission compliant".

5HP isn't that bad, and MPG may be due to new testing requirements. It's what DC did to make the engine "50 state emmission compliant" that has me worried the sticker may be overstated. I went through this on my '98 G Caravan with the new 3.3L flex-fuel I ordered during model year transition. I'm not impressed with the mileage and power I get compared to the '97 with same exact setup. Wishin I had just bought the '97 off the lot then, and afraid I'll be wishin I just bought a '00 quad off the lot now.

just called my salesman and the quad arrived @ 12:30 today. this means that i will not be able to pick it up until tommorrow.

little known fact for you all, is that since i reside about 5 hours and 400 miles north of NYC, i have to abide by their emmisions, therfore if you were to look on the back of a dakota brocheure book you will probably find the following statement.

"The 235-horsepower rating for the Dodge Dakota Next Generation 4.7L Magnum V8 does not apply in the following states: CA, CT, DE, MA, MD, NH, NJ, NY, RI, PA, VA, VT, AND DC. The 235 horsepower rating for the Dodge Durango Next Generation 4.7L Magnum V8 does not apply in the following states: CA. The correct horsepower for these vehicles in the respective states listed is 230."as per the 2000.

so anyways, i am going to go get hammered tonight, otherwise i will not be able to sleep and still go to work tommorrow. good luck victx, i hope that you get yours soon.

see you all in a couple of weeks with a report.

On my way to the golf course in 1996 I had the "check engine" light come on,It was my beloved Ram 1500 4x4.It was right after I ran out of gas.So (after the round) I put 3-4 gallons in still the light was on.After I filled it up all the way the light turned itself off.
I'm not sure that this applys to you or anyone else but it's 2 Dodge trucks later and I haven't seen hide nor hair of that light since!Knock on wood.

"want1bad",while your numbers seem to be right. The smog index IS on my 2000 QC sticker,I'm looking right at it.It is 0.79...Plus my truck is also 50 state "emmission compliant"
Don't beat yourself up over 5 horsepower, just don't get to excited if you pull up to me at a stop light. In fact you better look the other way....LOL

    Norman,

We just received word today that the program has been extended and goes into effective August 14th, 2000. Model years are 2000/2001 and the Durango has been added.

If you want anymore information I will gladly mail it to you.

    Have a nice day,

I would suggest that you contact your individual Farm Bureau for details. Hope that this helps.

Going tomorrow to pick up my quad finally. I have been waiting since first putting my order in for 2000 in mid April, that one was nixed by DC. I just had to wait 4 weeks on my 2001 Cost for 4x2 loaded 23,362 it is White slt with Taupe(more gray than tan) interior. So far very pleased with final dealer.

Well, I've had the QC for a week and so far all is well. got a little over 400 miles on it and I'm averaging 16-16.5mpg (4.7 5-speed LSD 3.55 rear) I can't seem to keep my wife out from behind the wheel either (any tips guys?).

    Here are a few observations.

I also noticed on the sticker for my '01 that it was rated at 230HP.

The 5 speed shifts great, but I've lost one of my cupholders in the front due to the shifter. Did I see a post somewhere about getting an optional cupholder?

The new garage door openers are the homelink, and are built into the upgrade roof console. I finally got mine programmed last night. My '01 as delivered with a '00 owners manual (that confused me for a bit!) but my '01 manual arrived in the mail yesterday and I was finally able to program the openers.

Is this a good conference to discuss upgrades? I have a few questions regarding cat-back exhaust and tonneau covers.

    Thanks! -Chris

I've been following this thread for a while now and am really impressed with the quality of information presented here. How refreshing.

I am in the process of (hopefully) ordering a 2001 QC, pretty much loaded. Going w/4.7 V8, 4x4, auto, leather, etc... Only options I'm not including are block heater, 9.92 axle, alarm (that's what insurance is for!) and F/T transfer case.

Can't wait to get the ball rolling as I'm expecting a call from the bank tomorrow to verify financing.

My question; What kind of deals are people getting? I'm being quoted prices about $500 above internet invoice prices from sites like "DriveOff" and "Chrome Carbook." Those quotes seem consistant regardless of options desired. This doesn't seem to leave much room to "deal". :-(

DC is currently offering $500 incentive to dealers for vehicles delivered between 8/2 and 10/2/00. Salesman indicated he would pass this on to me. Better get my order in!!!

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

Hi everybody. I know its been a while since I've posted. I had to drop the Quad off at the dealers last night, had front end shake when applying the brakes. Also, told them that it appears that the passenger side of the truck sits lower, about 3/4"-1". The service rep said there's nothing he can do. I said there's obviously something wrong. He responded by saying they would check out the suspension. If I remember somebody else had a similar problem. I'm interested in the out come.
They just called a few minutes ago, its ready. Replaced both front rotors, nothing wrong with suspension. I guess I'll ask how to get in touch with local rep to see what my next course of action will be.
My father-in-law is getting ready to buy a new truck and he aske me about Chevy's. I told him my 91'S-10 and 98'Blazer were junk I'd never buy a GM again. Now he's looking at a Dakota. I better not tell him what happen to mine.

On the mpg front. I'm getting 18-18.5, QC/4.7L/auto/4x4/3.55/no lsd. it seems the hotter is outside the better the mileage.

The fold-a-cover is holding up well. I think I'm going to have to break down and install the rivets that hold the rails near the tailgate. They are starting to get loose.

Go to go and do some real work. Type at you later.

Yep, it was me. I warped my front rotors by driving through a touchless wash (my side business) that we'd just installed. I'd just pulled off of the freeway in 110 degree heat and had to get on the brakes pretty hard. Sat at the light just before the carwash turn-in and got a 'hot spot' on the rotors, then immediately drove into the wash. The bottom blasters sprayed water through the front rims and that night she started a rockin' ... Of course running all those auto-x back the first of the year didn't have any affect on em. ;-)

A bit of catch-up on latest chapters in the forums this morning... Interesting as usual!

THEMACGUY -- Your flashlight caper really had me thinking! Honestly sorry to hear about it, but it HAS inspired me to carve out a bit of extra time next week to "observe" the tech when he installs a controller in my Quad!

As for the controllers themselves, I SWEAR by them! I had one installed on my '95 Ram 4X4 when I bought a 14-ft enclosed tandem-axle to haul motorcycles and fishing gear... On the way back home a couple of years ago, weather was extremely snowy/icy/windy coming out of the mountains in Kentucky... On one long descent, there were cars, trucks and trailers strewn all over in the ditches and median at the bottom... Too late to turn back, though. Alreday in 4-high, I carefully adjusted gain on the controller, tapped the brakes to test front/rear proportioning, and proceeded... No problem! The trailer brakes had just enough bite to keep the truck straight and under control without jackknifing.

GSX750F -- I also have the Fold-a-Cover, and don't regret that choice... A quick suggestion on installing that rear hold-down rivet through the track (I balked on it as well)... Powerwash under the fender where the hole will be drilled. Then after installing the rivet, get under the fender with a flashlight and squirt a few coats of undercoating to seal off the rivet hole... But remember not to leave your Mag Light under there!

EXHAUST -- Still waiting for my Borla cat-back and air kit to arrive from the Left Coast (16 days and counting)... Can't wait to install it! I've carefully recorded fuel mileage (5.9, auto, 4X4) for the last three tankfulls, and it's consistently between 14.2 and 14.4... Anxious to see what gains (if any) the Borla will provide.

ONE MORE TIME -- Still seeking leads/experiences on a roof rack for the Quad. At $200, the Mopar unit doesn't impress me at all... Any tips would be appreciated!
