Interesting article about using power to attract younger buyers. I just hope they don't forget their customer base.
BTW, anyone else think Armstrong sounds a little monotone in his ads? The guy could use some media training, maybe a little emotion in his voice.

It's better than overkill with a dopey FM radio morning zoo type personality. :-)

- they like the styling of the wagon more, this time, as well
- they find it borrows exterior design elements from the A4 and Mazda6
- great interior design and first-class materials (plastic) used
- available engines: all NA; 2.0 and 2.5 H4, 3.0H6; the latter with 245PS (~hp)
- 5-gear AT with manual mode available on all models
The AWD light probably just indicates it is functional (not fused out or so) at engine start-up.

5-gear AT with manual mode available on all models
Hope so! In Japan the base models are still 4 speeds.

Nice article. Thanks.

. In basic form it not only appears to be able to take to the road better than the Camry, Accord or even Mazda6, but even against smaller prestige sedans such as the Volvo S40 and the Audi A4. As for the final word, we'll have to drive them first, before we can make any final decisions but we are definitely looking forward to it…

• There may be an upcoming Alfa connection!
• 7-passenger crossover may get a 3.6 H-6.
• Probably won't see the B11S.
• Talk about a Legacy STi.

Need to read the PDF to get the complete scoop.

If it's A/S, hopefully it will be a very good one.

I found a new Legacy waiting there for me. And Wow! What a car. It's more handsome, more refined, lighter and stronger, and a version probably will finally come to the US with the sportin' engine and suspension specs it deserves -- and not just in Outback trim this time. So much good news! Plus of course the plethora of great links I have come to expect from the folks here on the Crew :-)
I read elsewhere someone saying that it looks like a knockoff of the Saab 9-3. I find that funny because when I first saw a 9-3 I did a double-take; is that a new or hopped-up Legacy? In other words as far as I'm concerned the Saab imitates the Legacy, not the other way around!
The bad news in all of this is that it means I have to get off my a** and get back to work sooner than I might have otherwise; I *want* *one* *bad*.
Cheers,
-wdb
I still say a B11S-like coupe would make a great halo vehicle.
Long time, no see, wdb. Maybe you could go back to being a Soob mechanic! At least you could service those new Legacys and STis. ;-)

Nice link. I liked the interactive sidebar of the article.
I didn't realize the new Legacy had a plastic covering on the underbody to minimize air drag.

P.S. I also posted this in "Forester Turbo in 1 year".
That's nice but, uh, were is the meat?
In an entire page first-drive report, I would have expected a bit more than >> Climbing and passing on mountainous roads was effortless, and we felt a rush of satisfaction as we wound our way to higher elevations << about the car's performance and handling.
Hopefully, there will be more to come.

I bet there's an embargo on the measured performance data. Noone has said a word about it.

It's funny how things happen sometimes. I'm getting married soon to a wonderful gal. We're both at a stage in our lives where 'the kid thing' is something -our- kids are doing. We've been toying around with the whole money situation -- jobs and bills and expenses and whatnot -- to see if we might be able to juggle it all in a way that would produce a bit more free time for one or both of us. Now, suddenly, I have a ton of free time; the problem is, now I want a job, so I can save up a wad so I can go out and buy a new Subie! Blast those Subie people for making such a lusciously desirable machine!
And now a few words about my Subie and Subies in general, just to stay the tiniest bit on-topic ;-) My MY2000 Legacy GT has chugged along just fine since I last wrote about it. At just under 60K miles the engine has loosened up very nicely; it loves to rev, the butt-dyno tells me there is a bit more oomph than there was when it was new, and the average fuel economy has gone from 22-23 to 24+. The shocks are beginning to feel a bit loose but that may be an artifact of my driving my friend's Audi A4 Avant with the sport suspension :-)
The neighborhood keeps growing Subies as well; two new Foresters and a used Legacy sedan most recently. The Legacy sedan is for a neighbor's teenage child. I think these (and used Imprezas for that matter) are an excellent choice for a kid; safe as houses, cheap to buy and run, and yet with enough street cred to keep your kid from feeling like a poor dork stuck driving mommie's hand-me-down. If the kid complains, you can always slap some alloys and a chrome exhaust tip on it :-)

I also don't think it will get the STi's DCCC.
