247hp is enough for me... forget the 2.5L turbo!

nothing is so awesome as the sound of a nice boxer six.

actually i would prefer an outback with 247hp than legacy turbo.................

at one point Subaru was not offering one model that i wanted to buy now they offer so many ?

    is this 247HP H6 a rumor or true for a fact ?

Basically the same article as posted earlier in the Toronto Star can now be found at Canadian Driver.
Nice pix though.....that blue wagon is sweet.

the rumor is a fact. Whether it is true or not, that's another matter... ;)

Bob: notice something in that USA Today article? A certain person we sent correspondence to happens to be the one quoted!

Interesting article about using power to attract younger buyers. I just hope they don't forget their customer base.

BTW, anyone else think Armstrong sounds a little monotone in his ads? The guy could use some media training, maybe a little emotion in his voice.

Juice, you're right. No, I hadn't noticed that.

on this german link pics, did you notice AWD sign warning in the dash board, wonder what that is ?
  • glycinemaxglycinemax Member Posts: 74
Saw in the USA Today article reference to a gas/electric hybrid coming... Any more information? Model, year? From Toyota via GM? How 'bout a diesel/electric hybrid five years from now?
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
I think they want him to sound that way. Sounds cool.
It's better than overkill with a dopey FM radio morning zoo type personality. :-)

I guess, but he reminds me of that Mean Joe Green ad where they try to "coach" him into sounding less monotone, remember? That was funny.

    - 80% of the previous model Legacy sold in Germany were wagons
    - they like the styling of the wagon more, this time, as well
    - they find it borrows exterior design elements from the A4 and Mazda6
    - great interior design and first-class materials (plastic) used
    - available engines: all NA; 2.0 and 2.5 H4, 3.0H6; the latter with 245PS (~hp)
    - 5-gear AT with manual mode available on all models

The AWD light probably just indicates it is functional (not fused out or so) at engine start-up.

No mike, but because the mailing address is a PO Box, and they have to sign for those. So I sent it Priority Mail instead, in an envelope that stands out.

5-gear AT with manual mode available on all models

Hope so! In Japan the base models are still 4 speeds.

with the article. The new Legacy's success is absolutely critical for the future of Subaru, more so than any other Subie model.

. In basic form it not only appears to be able to take to the road better than the Camry, Accord or even Mazda6, but even against smaller prestige sedans such as the Volvo S40 and the Audi A4. As for the final word, we'll have to drive them first, before we can make any final decisions but we are definitely looking forward to it…

most markets will be seeing the new Legacy by late fall. We'll just have to wait a few more months (as usual).

  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
the new Legacy will arrive next April, but the turbo won't arrive until summer. :(

A very interesting discussion with Subaru-Oz managing director. Some tidbits:

    • There may be an upcoming Alfa connection!
    • 7-passenger crossover may get a 3.6 H-6.
    • Probably won't see the B11S.
    • Talk about a Legacy STi.

Need to read the PDF to get the complete scoop.

What type of tires does everyone think the N. American Legacy turbo will come with? A/S or summers?
If it's A/S, hopefully it will be a very good one.

    -Dennis
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
I can't image Subaru offering summer tires on car with mass appeal. Yes, the STi has summer tires, but it's hardly a car with mass appeal (except to maybe folks here!).

    Bob
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
I agree with Bob. I think only the STi will get summer tires due to its need to compete for those last few tenths on standardized performance benchmarks. All other performance models will continue to use all-season tires...

I know, I don't come around too often. But I recently became, ahhmmmm, 'available' again and so I thought I'd do a bit of a tour of the old stomping grounds.

I found a new Legacy waiting there for me. And Wow! What a car. It's more handsome, more refined, lighter and stronger, and a version probably will finally come to the US with the sportin' engine and suspension specs it deserves -- and not just in Outback trim this time. So much good news! Plus of course the plethora of great links I have come to expect from the folks here on the Crew :-)

I read elsewhere someone saying that it looks like a knockoff of the Saab 9-3. I find that funny because when I first saw a 9-3 I did a double-take; is that a new or hopped-up Legacy? In other words as far as I'm concerned the Saab imitates the Legacy, not the other way around!

The bad news in all of this is that it means I have to get off my a** and get back to work sooner than I might have otherwise; I *want* *one* *bad*.

    Cheers,

I hope the 7 passenger SUW is fuel efficient. That's what my wife wants as our next new vehicle. 3.6l is big for a Subie, a 247hp 3.0l H6 would be fine for its purposes.

I still say a B11S-like coupe would make a great halo vehicle.

Long time, no see, wdb. Maybe you could go back to being a Soob mechanic! At least you could service those new Legacys and STis. ;-)

    Bob,

Nice link. I liked the interactive sidebar of the article.

I didn't realize the new Legacy had a plastic covering on the underbody to minimize air drag.

huh, didn't realize the low-boost 2.5L turbo used in the Forester XT had AVCS. nifty.

    (Re: first-drive report)

That's nice but, uh, were is the meat?

In an entire page first-drive report, I would have expected a bit more than >> Climbing and passing on mountainous roads was effortless, and we felt a rush of satisfaction as we wound our way to higher elevations << about the car's performance and handling.

Hopefully, there will be more to come.

That was such a tease. No beef at all.

I bet there's an embargo on the measured performance data. Noone has said a word about it.

Wow folks, thanks for the warm welcome back. It's a bittersweet reunion for me. I really enjoy these groups, especially the good-natured if rather relentless humor meted out by the participants. However the reason I once again have time to spend here is because I've been laid off. Sigh.

It's funny how things happen sometimes. I'm getting married soon to a wonderful gal. We're both at a stage in our lives where 'the kid thing' is something -our- kids are doing. We've been toying around with the whole money situation -- jobs and bills and expenses and whatnot -- to see if we might be able to juggle it all in a way that would produce a bit more free time for one or both of us. Now, suddenly, I have a ton of free time; the problem is, now I want a job, so I can save up a wad so I can go out and buy a new Subie! Blast those Subie people for making such a lusciously desirable machine!

And now a few words about my Subie and Subies in general, just to stay the tiniest bit on-topic ;-) My MY2000 Legacy GT has chugged along just fine since I last wrote about it. At just under 60K miles the engine has loosened up very nicely; it loves to rev, the butt-dyno tells me there is a bit more oomph than there was when it was new, and the average fuel economy has gone from 22-23 to 24+. The shocks are beginning to feel a bit loose but that may be an artifact of my driving my friend's Audi A4 Avant with the sport suspension :-)

The neighborhood keeps growing Subies as well; two new Foresters and a used Legacy sedan most recently. The Legacy sedan is for a neighbor's teenage child. I think these (and used Imprezas for that matter) are an excellent choice for a kid; safe as houses, cheap to buy and run, and yet with enough street cred to keep your kid from feeling like a poor dork stuck driving mommie's hand-me-down. If the kid complains, you can always slap some alloys and a chrome exhaust tip on it :-)

I'm betting the USA Legacy turbo will get the essentially the WRX-STi engine, minus the water injection, hence a slightly lower HP rating of ~ 280 or so.

I also don't think it will get the STi's DCCC.

    Bob
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Autoweek is saying 250hp, another mag said 280+hp. Numbers are all over the place.

    -juice
  • francophilefrancophile Member Posts: 667
Less than the hot-rod flagship STi, but not by much. 280 sounds right. *Definitely* no water injection, that's not the crowd this car is aiming for.

    Cheers,
    -wdb
(who doubts that it will, but who would nonetheless love to see the driver-controlled center diffy make the cut)
