Though I'm in no way disputing your observations, my experiences have been quite different. I've owned my 2007 Santa Fe Limited AWD for 6 months and have just over 5000 miles on it. There is absolutely no flutter or vibration at any speed. As for the leather seats, I realize that comfort is a very personal thing. Having said that, the ones in my Santa Fe feel just fine to me. I do agree with you on the standard (non-Infinity) audio system (which I have). I ended up having new speakers (Polk) installed, along with an external amplifier which is mounted under the front passenger seat. The results were excellent, even without a subwoofer.

;) I have a 2007 Santa Fe LIMITED. I read that besided the tilt wheel the wheel is also telescopic. Where is the control for that? :confuse:
  • slateblueslateblue Member Posts: 110
The steering wheel tilt lever is also used to telescope the wheel. Release the lever and pull up firmly on the steering wheel, or push down if the wheel is already extended. My steering wheel was rather stiff when I first tried it but works with little effort now.

Last week when I was at my dealers for an oil change, Hyundai happened to call while I was standing at the counter, checking with the dealer to see if the map light was fixed yet (which is at my dealers). Good timing. It was nice to see communication happening!

Still waiting for a couple other parts to come in to do all together.
  • gunga64gunga64 Member Posts: 271
I still would go with the auto as the dealer can always claim abuse when you get a manual that has issues later. Think 10year/100k drivetrain that is useless because they blame failure on driver operation. Seen it happen before.

I have a 2007 gls auto, no vibration at 70 or 80. This is the first vehicle I have not replaced the tire at under 10,000 miles. 18,000 miles on them and no problems with any kind of vibration. Very reliable so far except for a leaking windhield that was fixed under warranty. Mirak Hyundai/Chevrolet seems to have a good service dept.

However the gas mileage stinks and I still get better acceleration with at least 89 octane.
  • somedai1somedai1 Member Posts: 416
you santa fe gets better performance with 89 than 93?
  • edmac1edmac1 Member Posts: 36
"better acceleration with at least 89 octane" means better than 87, not better than 93.
  • gunga64gunga64 Member Posts: 271
Not sure but I think edmunds changed the standard feature for the santa fe se. I thought that model came with 2nd row ac vents? Does anyone know if it is standard in the 2007 model?
  • mpuzachmpuzach Member Posts: 635
2nd row vents are standard in all current-generation Santa Fes.

Thanks mpuzach that makes it a lot easier. Edmunds you need to update your site.

OK! Now that you gave a critique of the Santa Fe, did you buy it? :confuse:

My wife has a 2007 Santa Fe with 1600 miles on it. The it shows a low driver side front tire I checked with a tire gage at 30lbs. anybody have problems with this?
  • yongugyongug Member Posts: 9
    Hello,

I bought this car early of this year and a little over 10kmiles on it. So far it was pretty nice except two problems.
The first problem, actually it's been fixed already, was security/alarm beeping. The simptom was the car was beeping in about 30 to 40 seconds later after locking the door. The dealership couldn't fix the problem at my first visit, I mean they said they fixed it but it happened again! So I went to the same dealership again and he remembered me. Then he said they should've replaced a fuse box (I was a little bit supprised at the time), anyway they replaced it and the problem never happened again by now.

The another problem that is still on-going is a engine vibration. It's not happening all the time though, but it seems to me that it's much more serious problem and dealership's never found what's happening and causing.
It seems like idle failure, because the engine vibration only occurs when car stops with engine still on. I can feel that the vibration becomes bigger and bigger when it starts, and it's like a back and forth vibration. This failure vibrates the driver and even the entire car! Sometimes I see RPM viabration all together and also CEL! Sometimes it lasts the next morning but for the most of case it stops once I turn off the engine and turn back on.
It's only happening on D shift, I mean if I change the gear to N the vibration stops. Then I change the gear to D again the vibration comes back.

I went to dealership twice and they've never figured out what the problem is. They always say "can't find any problem on this car". Then if I ask them "what should I do if the vibration come back" they always say come to dealership.

It's happening almost once(or twice) a week at least and how can I go to dealership that often? Anyone has similar problem or experience? Any advice/sharing info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

When you experience the vibration, does your idle speed dive to say 500 or less? With an automatic tranny, a small load remains on the engine while you're sitting at a traffic light with your foot on the brake and the selector in 'D'. If there's an idle speed problem, the engine will struggle to stay running, but not run smoothly. Checking your idle speed at time of trouble may help your dealer diagnose the problem. At idle, I'm guessing that you should see a steady state 750 to 800 RPM regardless of A/C or headlight settings. Hope this might help.
  • yongugyongug Member Posts: 9
    Thanks asa,
I 100% agree with your opinion, but the problem I have is the car is being driven by my wife who is not good at english (came from other country). In fact I asked her many times to go to dealership when vibration occurs without stopping motor. Showing them vibration or CEL could be the best way to diagnose I thought. But she's reluctant to go dealership by herself......

The steady state RPM at idle is about 750 to 800 and my wife said sometimes the rpm vibrates up and down while the engine vibrates back and forth....-.-+

Are you guys setting D or N while you stop at the red light? I've been told it should be D. Because more often shifting D to N and N to D could cause the shorter period of replacing tranny oil..
  • somedai1somedai1 Member Posts: 416
cel code should still be in memory - bring it to dealer to have checked - don't wait. does it jerk forward or just vibrate? does it happen while driving in motion and not stopped? may be oxygen sensor bank 2 problem. TSB...
  • cnodcnod Member Posts: 5
I had this a couple of times with another car with that feature..so far not with my 2007 Santa Fe. It can happen when you have the tires rotated. Apparently, it "remembers" the attributes of the tire that was on that side. It should be able to be reset in the controls via the radio I think. Check your manual or with your dealer service department.
  • yongugyongug Member Posts: 9
It is just like vibration back and forth, pretty fast speed.. I could notice it's coming from engine room at the beginning and the vibration's getting bigger and bigger... then the entire car vibrates seriously..

I've been to dealership twice with this failure and they continuously said no problem found! as you mentioned cel code should be there in memory which I didn't know that. I should go to dealership again anyway...

Interesting thing is sometimes there's no cel, but car vibrates with the same way...
  • yongugyongug Member Posts: 9
Thanks for the info, but I've never had them rotate the tires yet, so your experience may not be an issue. But thanks!
  • asaasa Member Posts: 359
Are you guys setting D or N while you stop at the red light? I've been told it should be D.

You're right -- it should be left in D at a light. You paid for an automatic transmission and should be enjoying it's benefits and not having to row between gears. ( :D My wife and I prefer manual transmissions because we find them more fun to drive. But they're not everyone's cup of tea we fully understand :) )
  • somedai1somedai1 Member Posts: 416
tell them to check if there is a tsb for the problem - the code is still there if you did not erase it - ask them what the code is and let me know - it might be the same problem i had....
  • yongugyongug Member Posts: 9
ok.. Thanks in advance for your help.
I will be able to come to dealership this weekend, and I will then let you know the code.
btw do you have same problem what it's happening on my car?

I recently purchased a 2007 Santa Fe SE, which does have the hitch pre-wiring in the rear left fender. Putting in the hitch is as simple as falling off a log. Just four bolts will attach it. I had a buddy's help, but we still used a jack to hold the heavy hitch in place.

Now the wiring is another totally different thing, there are two connectors one, a four pin for the the lights, the other two pin provides 30A, which could keep your trailer battery happy. They are connectors F62 and F61 respectively, listed in the maintenace manual.

The problem is to get the mating connectors for the pre-wiring, Actually, those connectors are modular, of the NMWP (new multipin water proof) type. They need to be ordered in pieces, 1. the body, 2, the connector pin(s) of the proper wire size, 3 the rubber seals for each wire of the proper size for the wire insolation.

The link of: WWW.KUNION.CO.KR/HTML_E/ will get you going towards further info.

Now, the prewires are capped with mating plugs which have dummy plastic pins installed. So, all you really need are the pins, which I have not found as yet on the internet. A probably futile visit at the Hyundai parts bin is yet to come.

If all fails, I'll just cut off the pre-wire plugs and plain splice in my harness. Always use grease and shrink tube in that wet environment to keep a nice connection.

    Hope this helps, Herb
  • kdahlquistkdahlquist Member Posts: 130
Um, why go to all that trouble when you can buy the plug-in trailer wiring harness from your local Hyundai dealer for about $80?

Is it me or my imagination?
I have a 2007 Santa Fe Limited. I found that the doors dont lock automatically like my 2003 Santa Fe when you start to accelerate.
    Arent they suppose to? :confuse:
  • drwoodrdrwoodr Member Posts: 88
Lots of previous posts on this, your dealer can activate the auto door locks for you. They should do it for no charge.

I live in upstate NY and drive an '07 AWD Limited Santa Fe. As the weather is already starting to drop into the low 20's overnight (and the worst is yet to come), I have been looking into putting a remote car starter in my vehicle. After checking with my dealership, I was told that it wouldn't be a problem, so today, I had the starter installed.

Not sure if it was the place that I went (they have a good reputation) or a quirk with the vehicle, but the situation has gotten a little out of hand. Upon picking up my SUV, I was told that my keyless entry will no longer work when the remote starter is used. Worse yet, the security system cannot be enabled. I feel like I've been part of a bait-and-switch, since this was NOT how things were explained to me when I dropped off my vehicle. Has anyone else had a starter put into their '07 Santa Fe? If so, would you mind letting me know the following:

    1. Are you able to alarm your car using the new key fob (for the remote starter)?
    2. If the doors are locked when you start your car remotely, can you unlock them without turning off the car (via the key fob) first?

I'd appreciate any feedback while I try to decide what to do about this!

any after market device can void that big warranty if you have an electrical issue. Hyundai is not shy about this either,

The Mangeson Moss act says they would have to prove the addition caused a problem but who has the $$ to fight them

    Jeff
  • travelgrrltravelgrrl Member Posts: 13
The dealerships in the Albany area are offering them free with any vehicle purchase, and when I called my dealership, they told me there would be no problems. I appreciate the information about the warranty . . .
  • somedai1somedai1 Member Posts: 416
it is a wiring issue - if they were willing - and/or have the apptitude - they should be able to allow you to have a new remote that replaces all the functions of the oe remote with the additional feature to remote start the car (probably more $$$) OR leave you with 2 operational remotes - the oe remote along with a new remote starter remote - both fully functional - looks like they took the easy way out and disabled the original functions to allow for their particular remote starter to work... i think you can have it your way - just costs more. Doesn't HyundaI offer this widely desired aftermarket item?
  • travelgrrltravelgrrl Member Posts: 13
Thank you, somedai1, you confirmed my suspicions. At this point, from the checking I've done, Hyundai doesn't offer the remote start as an option. Even the dealerships point you to a local shop to have it installed . . .
  • survivor93survivor93 Member Posts: 25
Unless you had them install a VIPOR or AutoMate you are out of luck.
I had my dealer install a remote start & I am having the same problem as you. :surprise:
  • travelgrrltravelgrrl Member Posts: 13
Thanks for the info -- I looked a little further into the brand of starter I have. After calling the manufacturer, I found out that the CrimeStopper unit installed in my car does allow both disarm/re-arm of the alarm system, and keyless entry from the remote. Looks like I'll be visiting the installer again, since I want this ability through one key fob! You ought to check the Web site or call the support number for your unit - maybe yours was oversight by the installer as well, survivor?
  • survivor93survivor93 Member Posts: 25
:) I took your advise & researched it on line.
There is an additional module that can be purchased to do it.
I may have it installed when I go for service. The dealer installed my remote. ;)

    Hi All,
I am not sure if this is the best place to post this issue, but I just bought a new 07 GLS AWD/XM w/out Fog lights and I would like to have them install at the dealership.
Does any one in this group has done that?
I priced out the parts at the service dept and it is not that bad.
$80 per fog light and $18.95 for the switch all of this are Hyundai original and to match the interior.

    Thanks,

I want to say thanks to everyone who posted about the $77/year offer from XM - I just received mine in the mail yesterday. For those who didn't decide to take this offer, did you receive any further (better) offers from XM? Or do you have pricing information for the multi-year plans? Any info appreciated; I'm looking to renew by the 15th.

You may want to browse or ask in the XM & Sirius Satellite Radio discussion too.

Some people get deals when they say they intend to cancel. Now that XM and Sirius are combining, the hot deals may be a thing of the past.
  • slateblueslateblue Member Posts: 110
I've turned down XM offers, I really don't use the radio that much. They recently sent me offers for $4.99 monthly for 3 months and $6.48 monthly for 6 or 12 months. I also receive periodic calls from them for the same rates.

Couldn't be happier with the Fe's performance after Chicago's first significant snow this morning. Hit the 4WD lock button, and got out of an +5" unplowed snow parking lot and through Chicago's unplowed alleys with absolutely no drama.

Hauling x-mas tree was a breeze too w/ the included rails and cross-bars (nice when you don't have to pay extra for these, eh CR-V's? ).

Now if the dealer would just contact me about that Map Light Kit, I'd be a happy camper. Dragging their feet on purpose perhaps?

Just traded in my 06 Sonata for the Santa Fe Limited with AWD. Over the weekend Chicago suburbs had a bad ice storm with frozen ice and rain on the streets. I have 400 miles on the Santa Fe, and engaged AWD, and had no problems getting to my dinner engagement. The heated wipers worked like a charm.

I'm enjoying the smooth power (like in the Sonata with the V6), and all the upscale features. My friend who just bought a Lexus RX350 was a bit ticked off that her car was a lot like mine in size, amenities etc. and she paid $10,000 more.

Today we have 5 inches or more of snow to play in. My Santa Fe is ready for Chicago's weather! Keep you posted as the miles pile up.

I've been an XM subscriber for nearly 3 years and I warch the deals that people are getting very closely. I've never heard of anyone getting a rate lower than $77 for a full year. I just got $4.95/month for 3 months but after that it went to $77 for the next year.

I am wondering if you have talked to the dealership. I spoke with the service department about adding fog lights to my SF and they told me that there a completely different wiring harness and that they could not do it. Parts soudn reasonable. Please let me know how it goes.

    Thanks

Glad to hear your enjoying your Santa. I own two AWD Limited's and love them.

Curious to know why you decided to hit the AWD Lock button?!

Under those conditions the AWD would have performed better than locking the system. Locking it bypasses the AWD in favor of a 50/50 split. Also, the 50/50 split shuts down in the 19/23 mph range. I only lock the system when climbing a steep grade.

Well after months of looking finally got a santa fe FWD. Got the limited because they offered 1.9% for 7 years and comparing it to the 08's didn't make sense at those rates. They had a few 07 base models but they had the tan interior that was already very dirty at the dealer lots did not want to go through that again.

The interest rate alone saves me about $4500.00 over the 7 years. May pay it off early but not sure theres a reason to.

This is my first non base car that I have owned. The leather is very nice so are the heated seats. Not sure how the heated mirrors work. Do they turn on when you turn on the heat?

Has anyone sprayed their carpet and/or mats with scotch guard to protect them from staining? I want to keep this car a long time and as clean as possible.

The only thing we got with it that I was against was the dark color. It will be a pain to keep clean. Already started waxing it. Thinking of getting a front car bra or the stone guard but not sure which one. Also found some invisible car bras on ebay. It's like a clear vinyl precut to fit the santa fe. But not sure I trust those. Those cover the mirrors bumper and hood. But I was really never any good at applying tint and it is applyed almost the same way. They state that it is easy to remove. Averaging 20.8 in town.
  • slateblueslateblue Member Posts: 110
Congratulations on your new Santa Fe. You might consider the WeatherTech FloorLiners to protect your carpet. They fit like a glove and I have been very satisfied with mine.

I talked to the guys at at the service department at Mirak Hyundai here in Arlington Mass. And they want to look at the car next week to see how complicated/simple is going to be.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Congrats on your new Santa Fe. You're going to love it. A few things...

What colors (exterior/interior) did you get?
Any options (Premium Package, Touring Package, etc.)?
I definitely recommend having a ClearBra installed on the front bumper, leading portion of the hood, and outside mirrors. We have it on all 3 of our cars and we'll never buy another car without having it installed. It's very effective at preventing stone chips. Just be sure to use a reputable installer as it's not a job for a novice.
To avoid swirls and spiderweb scratches in the paint, use only microfiber cloths for washing. I also highly recommend using the Mr. Clean AutoDry System exactly per the instructions. This allows you to let the car air dry after washing without getting waterspots.

    Good luck!

    Thanks Mpuzach

Got the limited with option group 26 that comes with sun roof. It was 1200.00 under invoice that I got off carsdirect.com

Its a dark blue metalic with a gray interior we had no other option as the 07's are getting hard to get. Would not have normally bought this exterior color. There are some clear coat scratches that seem to disappear ok with wax. I have an appointment with the body shop to fix some cosmetic paint problems on monday. I may see what they can do about some of those scratches but they really aren't that bad. Maybe they can lightly compound them out. This was a dealer demo car so it had a little more then normal.

Thanks for the info on the microfiber. Was not sure what to use there. I am told by people in work that that ICE wax is very very good. They sell it at target for $15.00 but I was going to check walmart for it. As I have to get a good wax, leather protector, armor all plastic and tire wax and Scotch guard for car interior (its sold at target it was pretty cheap). Figured I spray it on all of the floor mats as well as the front and second floor carpet. Really want to avoid dirt and drink damage this go around. The carpet we had in our van really took a beating from kids.

I was going to try installing the clearbra myself as it is so cheap to buy the materials if I screw up I'll just remove it. Not sure its the same material you get from dealer though. Can you even see the clear bra when you look up close?

I may try that Mr clean autodry I saw it at target. Not having to dry off a car is a big advantage.

The window glass does not clean very well with windex and a paper towel so I will have to find another option there. Those never work good though.

Thanks for info slateblue. I see they sell stone guards for 59.00 no drillling that could also be a good buy.
