I did see two diffent types of alloy wheels when I was on the lot. One was a 5 spoke alloy on a LE and the other was the standard alloy on the XLE. I actually liked the 5 spoke wheel better, but my XLE came with the standard alloys.

Cliffy would know...care to chime in?

    Folks:
I am looking to buy a 2000 CE -5dr with the CE extra value package. Not sure if I can get a 2000 CE any more. Would like to know what is a good price to pay for this and a recommendation on the best place to buy in and around the Worcester, Massachusetts area. Should I be wait till the Torque Converter problem is solved? Thanks for all the great info. on this site.

We bought an LE last week. From the info on edmunds.com AND toyota.com there seemed to be two types of alloy wheels available: factory installed with 215/65R15 tires and dealer installed with the same 205/70R15 tires that come on the standard steel wheels. I wanted the wider tires. The salesman told me that the LE did not come with the wider tires, only the XLE. I couldn't show him the brochure since they were out. He showed me some internal print out that lists the alloy wheels with wider tires as standard on the XLE, but no mention of the wider tires on the LE optional alloy wheels. Other than the wheels (and wider tires) they had the car we wanted so we made the deal anyway.

I did get the "just because you saw it on the internet doesn't mean it's available" line. I wish I had printed out the Sienna page from the toyota web site. A brochure would have made my point as well, but since they were out I couldn't use that. I actually got a brochure that I had requested from toyota.com a couple days after we bought our van. Funny how that worked out.

I think someone on one of the other Sienna forums posted a message about buying after-market alloys and saving the steel wheels for snow tires.

Other than not getting the wider tires/wheels, we really like the van.

In my previous post, I mentioned that Toyota has limited combinations of options for a specific model in a specific area. For example, the LEs in Los Angeles cannot have a power sliding door. I guess this limitation can be broken if you ask them to order one with the options you want. But again, I doubt you can do that for 2000's Siennas at this moment. I suspect that Toyota may have stopped manufacturing 2000's Siennas. Just my thought.

I am currently looking around for a good dealer in the South Jersey area for a Sienna LE. Has anyone purchased one lately in S. Jersey? What did you pay over invoice and what was your experience like with the dealer? Thanks!

I'm preparing a letter to e-mail out to local Toyota dealers asking for
quotes on the 2000 Toyota Sienna XLE with the XLE luxury package. I
understand that the base invoice price for the Toyota Sienna XLE is $23,930.
Does anyone know what the invoice price is for the XLE luxury package?
I'd like to be able to site the entire invoice price (with luxury package)
in my letter. Thanks for any help you can give!

First thanks to everyone who writes. I read everything, checked all the websites like carsdirect.com etc and decided to us the email method form letter that someone posted a while ago. We sent it to about 20 dealers within 125 miles of our home. I had about 14 responses: most were not able to provide exactly what we wanted as we were interested in a 5 door white CE with HV and bumper protector, but were willing to look, and offered other vehicles that were close. Apparently it is too late in the 2000 year to order directly from the factory. Based on the prices I received for comparable models, and the prices at edmunds.com, we emailed our nearest dealer (we wanted to purchase locally if at all possible anyway), and told him what we wanted, once again using the form email. He did not have the exact model, but after checking a "six state area" came up with two. He traded a dealer 6 hours away, and we got our van (of course it had 300+ miles on it by the time it got here). We paid a total of: $24,839 which included everything (state tax, license, title etc.) Our agreed upon price, pre-tax, was $23,215 for the 5 door CE with HV and EF. We have had it 2 days, and it seems great. Once again, thanks to everyone. The email method worked really well for us; we had never been to a dealership before and were not interested in the bargaining and haggling. If you are in the Missouri, Ky., Indiana, Southern Illinois area, try Marion Toyota (Jeff Hartline, salesman). Everything was very professional and courteous, no pressure.

    mnjohn1 (post 237),

I think that the rebate $700 is a regional rebate. I think Toyota owes customers in L.A. something because Toyota does not ship LEs with a power sliding door. We here either buy XLE or go to north to buy LE if we insist to have a power sliding door.

Can anyone tell me when the 2001 Siennas will be delivered? I am in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and would also like some recommendations on local dealerships that are tolerable. I don't mind a good screaming match and a staged storm out of the dealership in an attempt to get the best price ploy, however I don't like to be smoozed by some idiot that never got out of the 7th grade. I was planning on purchasing a 2000 Sienna, but when I read about the check engine light troubles I decided I would wait a few weeks and get a 2001 version. Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

    XLE Invoice Price : $23,930
    Destination Charge: $ 480

    LL Luxury Package : $ 2,298

You'll probably also want the GN Cargo Net ($30) and the EF Bumper Protector ($36)

BIG SIENNA VAN PROBLEMS - anyone considering buying a sienna van needs to check out the sienna van problems conference. Many, many new owners are experiencing a problem with the torque converter in the transmission of their 2000 siennas. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM, DON'T IGNORE US! We bought (2 weeks ago) the sienna thinking Toyota was very reliable and safety conscience. After 1 week and 187 miles our check engine light came on. We took it to the dealer and were told that there is a defect in the torque converter/solanoid. It will take a few weeks to get the part and a few days to replace it! This widely effects siennas made in May, June and July. We now have a $30,000 lemon in our driveway and No recourse with Toyota. FUTURE SIENNA BUYERS BEWARE UNLESS YOU'RE MAKING LEMONADE!
  • brentg1brentg1 Member Posts: 10
One problem does not a lemon make. Did you actually expect the vehicle to be PERFECT???
  • duchess4duchess4 Member Posts: 3
to brentg1 - you've got to be kidding. You buy a $30,000 car and after 1 week you can't use it because of a toyota defect. You then have to wait several weeks for dealers to get the partS because toyota is overwhelmed with this problem and has to check their stock for defective parts. The powertrain then has to be taken out and repaired (2-3 days). This is not an isolated problem (see sienna problems and sienna V conferences)! You must be a dealer to think we new sienna owners shouldn't be upset. I bought a Nissan Pathfinder last year and have driven it over 13,000 miles WITHOUT HAVING TO RETURN IT TO THE DEALER FOR ANYTHING! SIENNA BUYERS BEWARE; THESE ARE LEMONS!
  • sgergensgergen Member Posts: 155
    duchess4 -

Relax. I bought a Sienna XLE in July with a June 2000 manufacture date. Just turned 1000 miles this weekend with zero problems.

Yes, they do have an issue with the torque converter/solenoid in a very small percentage of their vans that were manufactured the past few months.

Toyota is standing behind their product, they are doing everything they can (from what I've seen) to make sure that they get the problem fixed right the first time.

While it sucks that your van is one that was hit with this issue I think some caution is advised before you start declaring that *all* Siennas are lemons.

    Good Luck!

I just purchased a 2000 LE from Lawrence Toyota in NJ:

Options included: TO, UN, EF, GN

    Price breakdown:

    Invoice (w/options): 23,101
    TDA 520
    Profit 600
    Selling Price: 24,221

I was really annoyed about the TDA and tried hard to get out of it but they wouldn't budge. So I got an OK deal, but not great. There didn't seem to be a lot of Siennas available from the local dealers.

I should have tried the e-mail approach but I'm on vacation and wanted to get the car asap.

Got financing from PeopleFirst.com, they're GREAT.
    Highly recommended.
  • sjphylsjphyl Member Posts: 2
Does anyone have the e-mail format they used to send to the dealers for quotes? To the person who purchased at Lawrence Toyota and recommended PeopleFirst.com - what interest rate did you get? The best I have been able to come up with so far is 7.5% for 5 years. I am either going to get a great deal on a 2000 LE or I will wait a week or two and get a 2001. Thanks for your input.
  • camshaft2camshaft2 Member Posts: 2
PeopleFirst interest rate was 7.83 for 48 months, as posted on their website. I couldn't find any banks less than 8.7% in NJ. So 7.5% sounds very good, especially for 5 years.

I'm a first time reader and have found the info on the sienna and odyssey incredibly interesting.I would like to know if anyone has recently leased a sienna or odyssey and what types of prices theyhave gotten? Also, does anyone have a reputable salesman or woman on Long Island? Would love some feedback on these topics.

    Seems high to me.

I'm pricing 2001 LEs right now - don't have all the prices in yet but I have received offers less than $1,100 over invoice. Once I make the final deal I'll publish the numbers.

I dealt with Millennium Toyota of Hempstead on 7/26. They really wanted my business and gave me no hassle on a new Sienna. I had gotten my best Internet price (not without hassle, I must say) and I faxed it to them, indicating that I would be servicing my car in their shop, and wouldn't they like to sell it to me too?

They came in with a very nice price and threw in "lifetime" oil changes (That means "six"!).

2000 LE (Sailfin Blue) with TO, UN, and EF

    Invoice 23,063.-
TDA 399.- (if you recognize it)
    "profit" 85.-
    ========
    My price 23,547.-

Out the door (@ a monstrous 8.5% sales tax) $25,660

Anyhow, I dealt with Jorge Cordero, a real good fellow.

They didn't load on the fees, either. The documentation fee was all of 10 bucks, and the only other fee was a $20 service charge to register for me.

    Good luck

    Hi
Could someone please give me tips on how to get quotes from dealers on the 2001 Toyota XLE or LE. The 2 dealers that I have contacted so far don't seem to be willing to give out any numbers over the phone. The internet sites that send quotes do not have anything on 2001 models yet.
Also if you could tell me where to find the dealer's invoice price for the 2001 Sienna model.
Any negotiation tips would really help.
    Thanks a lot

    Hi,

just signed a deal for a 2000 CD 4dr with extra value pkg--cruise, dual air duct, deep tinted window and CD(not sure this?) for 22122 at crement toyota in Wayne. This is their ad, but we intended for a le and they only have this and an xle(with lether ect, List price 30K. The munufacturing date is Jun, I hope this one fine. The finance they offer is 8.9%, I'll go with other lenders. It's sand/oak.

    doc fee 169, title&licence 119,
and they cahrged 169 for window eitching existed.

if not have cd, the profit is 583 above invoice. if have CD, then $360.

    Seems OK?

    Hello:

My husband and I just purchased a 2000 Sienna LE with LE Extra Value Package (UN) and the rear bumper protector (EF). We love it and we got a good deal at Classic Toyota in Waukegan, IL. The dealer quoted us a price of $23,291 (which includes the $480 destination charge) plus tax (5.5%), transfer of title from our trade-in ($25.00), and a documentary fee ($48.30). Including the $48.30 doc fee (added dealer profit!), we paid 1.8% over the total invoice for this vehicle ($22,455). Not sure how much dealer holdback they got in addition, but I got the impression from them that this dealership is one that makes the bulk of its profit from Toyota for selling large quantities of their vehicles, which enables them to give individual customers good deals.

Despite our getting a good deal, there's still a slight sour taste in my mouth. Our initial price quote via the internet sales team was $23,095 (not including EF), but when we arrived to have our trade-in appraised, the price magically inflated to $23,325. The reason we were given for the price increase was VERY suspicious: They claimed the specific vehicle that was coming in was newer within the 2000 model year, and that there are quarterly price increases by the manufacturer to dealer as the production year progresses. I haven't found anything to support this claim on this or other web sites. (Has anybody heard of this?) As it turned out, the vehicle that arrived the next day was the wrong color, and we found out in a roundabout way that it had a couple of features that we hadn't wanted (center console box and the rear bumper protector). Needless to say, we didn't take that vehicle, and I now suspect that the added features (which the salespeople never informed us about) plus a desire for greater profit (imagine that!) accounted for the price increase. I have to say I would much more appreciate a dealer simply telling me straight that they need more profit in order to make the deal than to try pulling things over on me. In any case, in the end we chose to move forward on the deal at $23,291 because it was still much lower than the True Market Value recommended on Edmunds.com.

In case anyone is interested, I used the blanket email approach that others have talked about to get price quotes from dealers within a 100 mile radius. We chose Classic Toyota because theirs was the best quote. I didn't specify what I was willing to pay, instead asking for their best price. Also, I sent each message individually rather than including all of the recipients' addresses in the header. In an earlier post, someone suggested doing it individually so as not to make price fixing an easy option for them to pursue. This seemed to work very well, and I will do it again the next time we buy a new car. In the meantime, we'll enjoy our beautiful new Napa Burgundy 2000 Sienna LE! If I can manage to get it up our driveway and into our narrow garage doors without smashing the side mirrors, I'll be even happier. So far so good! :)

    Cheers,

    Heather

LE for 22,600 before trade. Seems like a good price to me for a new one. Anybody agree/disagree? I am battling back and forth between Sienna and Grand Caravan. I have had nothing but Toyotas for 17 years- Camry's, Corolla's and Previa. All were great vehicles. My '91 Previa has 132,000 miles, no problems except bad air conditioning. I am definitely leaning toward Sienna unless someone can convince me otherwise. Thanks.
  • hlurryhlurry Member Posts: 2
    Hello cyclonejoe:

Before buying our Sienna, we were going back and forth between the Grand Voyager (very much like the Grand Caravan) and the Sienna. While the $3000 rebate for the Voyager was very appealing (and I don't know what the rebate would be for the Dodge), I think what made the difference for us was the better crash test results, the newer, more streamlined look, and the more refined feel inside the Sienna. On the other hand, the Grand Caravan is bigger and thus has more cargo capacity.

$22,600 sounds great, especially if it includes some extra features-- does it? The base invoice on that one is $22,148 so at $22,600 with no extra features the dealer is getting about 2% over base invoice.

I may be biased but I say go for the Sienna!

LE on this model and includes trailer hitch, "heated" side-view mirrors, luggage rack, CD player, power side vents, etc. I don't know if all of this is standard on LE or not. I was surprised by lack of cargo space. I did buy it this morning, hope I don't have buyer's remorse.

I too have been trying to get some quotes from the dealers here in Chicago area for 2001 XLE with Luxury upgrade package and heated seats. Till now all of the quotes are $1200-1300 above the invoice. Not including the tax, title etc.
So it seems like that is the best price for the 2001 XLEs right now.

Last night we brought home our 2001 XLE. We bought at Wilde Toyota in Milwaukee WI. Super buying experience from beginning to end! HIGHLY recommend them.

We started out looking for a 2000 in mid-july but decided to pass on a dealer trade that would have put on 400 miles to bring it in from MN. We are soooo glad!

Our 2001 XLE w/ LL and UH (the new XLE ID for towing pkg)is GREAT!

Someone had posted that the new dash has stainless steel accent...no, it is an accent that closely matches the lower outside panel. Another post said the new lower panel color on the XLE would "disappear" with the Desert Sand...NOT! It is a very rich look and I am most happy with the decision to get Desert Tan.

We did notice a most positive difference in the
new engine, an A+ addition to the XLE.

This site helped us plan out a well thought purchase at an excellent price.

I am shopping for a new miniva, either sienna or
Odyssey. Anybody knows a good dealership around
my area? Toyato of Plano quoted me a 2000 Sienna LE with UN and TO for 24,500. For Ody LX, I
    would pay 23,840(MSRP+destination). I don't
care much about the size. I am more looking into
    price,reliability, and dealership services.
    Welcome any suggestions. Thanks.

Yes, you can see it. No it doesn't "set it off" like the other colors. Saw one today and still have the same opinion.

Glad you like it, enjoy your Sienna!

Our XLE was $28,229 plus WI tx/tl/lic.

    XLE base $24,895
    Dest 480
    LL pkg 2,618
    UH tow 128
    _______
    $ 27,993 plus $236 = $28,229
As I said, it was well worth our trip to Milwaukee.
  • sharlarsharlar Member Posts: 4
I noticed my spreadsheet skipped the UH tow for $128 for the total inv BUT the price we paid is correct...$28,229. Same price but an even better deal!

  • nextvannextvan Member Posts: 6
I am new to this forum, but I don't see the 2% dealer holdback being deducted from the invoice price that people are quoting. Edmunds says that you should deduct this cost from the invoice, especially if the vehicle has not been on the dealer's lot for a long time. When negotiating a price , is the reasonable 3% dealer profit out of the question for a 2001 XLE? I am ready to buy now but don't know what a "good" price is! Should I accept $1200 - $1300 as the minimum profit I have to pay over invoice?
  • tmnkwdtmnkwd Member Posts: 4
Good luck trying to get a deal without the dealer adding holdback. It is a Catch-22. The best time to bargain for the reduction or elimination of holdback is when the unit is new, before it has a chance to cast a shadow on their lot. the problems is that there will be five people standing behind you willing to pay the holdback to get the car.

I bought our LE in November and paid the holdback after kicking and screaming. Still got an excellent deal but now see the November deal is being beat at the end of model year. that is what you get for buying at the beginning of the model year. Good luck. the Town Hall really helps. keep checking back, especially as you get closer to buying time.

I am shopping a Sienna LE. The dealer gave me a price as,

    Base price $22,547
    Dest Charge $ 480
    EF $ 36
    UN $ 272
    TO $ 128
    -----------------------
    Sub Total $23,463

    1.85% adv. $ 417
    Profit $ 820
    ------------------------
    Total $24,700

Anybody has any idea about advertising cost?

We are in San Jose, CA.

See #60 in Sienna VI. Similar to 277 (slightly higher), and it still includes all of the hold back.

I'm shopping for a 2001 Sienna LE with traction control. Several dealers told me that it's hard to get an LE with traction control unless they special order it, which takes couple of months.

Do you think this feature is worth waiting for?

Anyone also shopping for the traction control feature?

    Thanks for your reply.
  • pjs123pjs123 Member Posts: 4
The 2001 Sienna is not offered w/ traction control, it does come with skid control( VSC). Traction control senses drive wheel spin and pumps the anti-lock brakes of the spinning wheel to send more power to the other wheel.

Vehicle skid control senses body sway and wheel position and applys braking action to help minimze the effects of the skid.

I was also hoping to see the 2001 with traction control, apparently Toyota doesnt see the need.
  • adamsdadamsd Member Posts: 3
I had a long talk with cliffy yesterday about this (works at a delaer in the DC area and adds many comments to these forums.) Breifly:
    1. he noted that in the DC area, only 10% of trhe XLEs are coming with VSC and these have the luxury package.
    2. You cn get it if you special order, but there are many downsides to this approach.
    3. The VSC has 3 components, one of which is a traction control as describe above. (I will not eloborate more; if he has time, his explanation would be helpful here....)
    4. I thinks it is worth the money, but I also had to decide it was worth the 6-12 week wait.

As I understand it, the dealer gets all of the hold-back. If a reasonable profit is 3%, what is the salesman cut?

According to the brochure I read. Traction control and stabilaty control are bundled together. Don't have the brochure in front of me though to verify this. Anybody else?

I must correct my previous posting, the '01 comes with traction control as part of the skid contol feature. I checked the brochure after talking with the dealer.

The local dealer said we needed to get the luxury XLE package (Code "LL" package #4) to get heated seats. An internet site, auotsite.com, the description says I could also get package #1 (HF). I do not really want the moonroof! I thought we could get leather, heated seats, entertainment system. I was concerned the moonroof might soak the entertainment system. Anyone in the know?
    thanks; Gary
