I financed my XLE Limited from the dealer with good credit and got 3.19 for 60 months financing.
  • lalalalalalalalalala Member Posts: 30
I was offered 4% for 4 yrs. but we opted to pay cash.
  • bondguy1bondguy1 Member Posts: 231
I heard Capital One has the best rates...I used Citizens Bank for our rate but from what I've heard, if your dealer won't give you a great rate, tell them you heard Capital One has more competitive rates and they may lower their rate to you...if you let them know that your aren't going to take the first rate they throw at you. Make them work for their money. They make the override on what they quote you and the actual rate they get from the bank.

My finance was at 4.6% with only Good credit. I guess you would have to see what your credit situation puts you in… The way to determine if it make sense to get a loan or pay cash, would be to ask this question: What could you do with that money over 5 years? Could you invent it and make more then the interest you would pay on a loan…

In the VERY top credit tier you might get a rate as low as 3.8%. Could you invest the money and get a 5% return… If so you would be better off getting a loan and taking the 40k and inventing it…

Lets say Right now you can get a 5 year CD at 4.22% If you invest 40,000 at 4.22% for 5 years you would get $9395.89. (based on a calculator from CapitalOne’s Web site)

Your Loan for 5 Years would cost you $3983.37. (based on an interest calculator I found)

These are of course just numbers to play with….

Your example wouldn't work in the real world. I sell bonds and fixed income for a living (thus the name "bondguy". You can get 6% today going out 15 years but even in your example, the CD isn't providing monthly income and even if it does, it would be about $138/month. My loan was 3.19% The total expense to finance for 60 months is about $2400. That's only $40 of my payment a month. I think it does make sense to finance with rates at record lows...the WHOLE KEY is to shop around...Go to a website "bankrate.com" and look up rates there. Also, interest.com (not sure if they do car loans but check). Paying cash for the whole purchase in an interest rate market such as we have now is foolish. Especially if you have the means to pay off loan anytime (funds available). Use the banks money and invest your cash in something like I have done at 6% for 15 year investment. I wouldn't pay more than 3.50% for a 48 or 60 month loan today. In fact, the shorter the term, 48 compared to 60, the rate should be lower.

Has anyone experienced the noise when you go to lock the van with the remote and a sliding side door or rear hatch hasn't fully closed yet, it makes a constant beep until the door is closed. Why? And how come it doesn't lock the door while it is in motion to close? Just wondering why Toyota did this...is it somehow a safety thing?
  • chortonchorton Member Posts: 149
In all toyotas with keyless entry, if there is a door ajar when you hit the lock button, it will beep comstantly until you find the door and close it fully. this is so you don't leave any door open at the mall ect. the same system applies to the sienna even with the power doors. just wait for them to close then hit the lock button.

I didn't start out wanting to pay cash, my plan was to charge it to discover card which has a cash back bonus on purchase. When the grace period is up, then I'll pay it off, pocketing the cash back bonus & paying no interest. But... I had a hard time convincing the dealer to take my credit card because of the dealer cost involved.
  • garnerjgarnerj Member Posts: 31
bondguy1 you said my example wouldn’t work but then you told people to do the exact same thing... I’m not saying a bond investment will pay for the entire car payment every month... No I’m saying in 5 years you would have more money if you invested then you would have paid for the Interest on a loan... and if you can tolerate risk put it into the stock market and you might get better returns... personally I would put it into a 401K and just eat the loan interest. Interest rates are so low right now… It’s the same argument for should you pay your house of early….
I don’t see how my numbers would not work… It sounds like a gain of $5,412.52 over a 5 year period. Again take the principal out of the equation… Your paying the principal no matter when either 40,000 on day 1 or 40,000 by then end of year 5.

But lets say you have a reality check and you cannot afford the $733 monthly payment for your Limited XLE. Lets say you can afford ½ that’s about 360 a month. So you put 20,000 down get a 20,000 loan and invest 20,000 in a 5 year CD.

The loan will cost you 1,991.69 in interest, the CD will earn you 4590.89 that’s a gain of $2599.2

Again this may only work if you have excellent credit... But if you have 40,000 in the bank to plug down on a car surely your credit is in good shape…
  • lena132lena132 Member Posts: 56
Seems that most people pay around 4% interest. I always see those car commercials saying 0% financing for X Days or 1.9% financing. But I rarely seen people actually taking advantage of this offer.
  • momof3momof3 Member Posts: 9
That is because the 0% is only offered on less popular vehicles to encourage sales. I do not think 0% will be offered on the Sienna for a long, long, long time. Every time I see a commercial advertising these low rates, I think about the vehicle that they are offering it on. Usually it is on vehicles that depreciate the fastest. just my 2 cents.
  • bondguy1bondguy1 Member Posts: 231
Yes...0% is usually offered, but then you wind up owning a Ford product or Chrysler product. Toyota doesn't need to offer 0% rates.

With all due respect, bondguy1 is correct. Your analysis is flawed, and precisely because you insist on ignoring the principal part of the required monthly payment of the loan.

"But lets say you have a reality check and you cannot afford the $733 monthly payment... Lets say you can afford ½....So you put 20,000 down get a 20,000 loan and invest 20,000 in a 5 year CD.

"The loan will cost you 1,991.69 in interest, the CD will earn you 4590.89 that’s a gain of $2599.2"

    No.

The correct way to analyze this example is to look at the difference between the interest rates on the CD and the loan. Using a 4.22% APR (from your earlier email #3498) on the CD, and assuming a 3.8% APR on a $20K auto loan, the CD will generate, per year, all of $84 more interest than you pay on the auto loan, for a savings of $420 over the 5 yr. life of the loan.

However, if you take into effect taxes on the CD interest, the CD may very well leave you with a loss. To illustrate, suppose you are in a 30% state and federal income tax bracket. The effective interest rate you earn on the CD is then (1.-0.3) x 4.22% = 2.954%. Thus, the effective interest rate on the CD is now 0.846% less than the interest rate on your auto loan. The CD now generates $169.20 less interest than you pay on the loan per year, for an accumulated loss of $846 over 5 yrs.

Sienna: prices paid. How is everyone been doing lately on a xle with factory leather and dvd player? what is the availability around the nation vs here in the southeast?

warranty--when can you buy it??does the toyota site have a description of the platinum extended? what doens't it cover?

    what changes for 05???

i looked at the 05 chrysler t and c--nice pricing packages, i can get nav, ltd and not get a moonroof, and you still get a 6 disc changer. doors close slow, tote and go very cool, seats aren't very comfortable

i wish sienna pricing of options and models was more flexible. e.g. to get hid i have to go ltd
has anyone done a comparison of the hid lights and the standard lights in terms of effectiveness?

thanks probably will order so i don't get the running boards--both my wife an i are tall and they hit our shins

Dealer was willing to accept a $1000 over invoice offer for an XLE limited loaded (of course today only) if I orderd the car (4 months out). I decided the extra cost over the Odyssey wasn't worth it and purchased the following Odyssey today - in my mind the $6000-$7000 difference was not worth the Sienna.

    Price of the car: $27,500
    Splash guards: $117
    Wheel locks: $48
    Cross Bars: $163
    Fog lights: $445
In dash DVD with 2 headrest 7 inch screens & tv tuner: $2,200
    Total: $30,473 + TTL + 50 doc fee.
    3.2% financing.

My local Toyota dealer in town has said he can do the following deal for me. Let me know what you think.

    Sienna XLE AWD
    Pkg #16 (GK)
    Plus Carpeted floor mats

for $32900 plus tax & title.

What's your thought on this? It seems decent, but not outstanding. It's a vehicle being built and would be here around the beginning of April.

    Thanks for the feedback

Just purchased and took delivery of an XLE Limited FWD with HOAT package (DVD and navigation system), and PV70+PD30 packages (floor mats plus door sill protectors). The whole process took me about one week:

Thursday: Our 8 year old, 98K miles Plymouth Grand Voyager SE broke. A/C clutch had broken off. Found out at the mechanic there was more wrong with it. To repair all would get expensive, had him only fix the A/C clutch so I could sell it.

Friday: Faxed out a request for bids to all Toyota dealers in a 2 hour radius, there are 20 in all. Specified exact configuration, options, and colors. Asked for out-the-door price. Gave dealers until Wednesday the next week to respond.

Monday: Went to local Toyota dealer. Test drove an XLE. Negotiated a little, but dealer wanted full MSRP plus it would have to be a special order. According to dealer no vehicles showing with exact configuration I was looking for.

Tuesday: Got the Plymouth Voyager back from repairs. Washed it, drove to CarMax and sold it for bluebook value.

Wednesday: 8 dealers responded to my bid request. Cheapest was $400 over invoice. One claimed he had the exact vehicle, all the others insisted none was showing on their computer for this region and it would have to be special ordered (10-14 weeks). Also contacted a dealer through Costco's auto-buying program. They were willing to match the lowest bid but didn't have the car either.

Called the one dealer that claimed to have the exact car I wanted. He asked $800 over invoice. The car is said to be coming in during the next few days. Asked to fax me a copy of his invoice plus VIN number. He did, it matched, colors and all, I made a $500 down payment.

Friday: Message from dealer on answering machine that car has come and is ready.

Saturday: Drove down to dealer, 1:45 hour each way. Picked up car.

Today: Greatly enjoying my new Toyota!! :-)

Price paid was $35887 for the vehicle. Added to that is tax (3% here), inspection, tags and processing, making for $37217.91 OTD.

I think you may have meant package 17 as 16 is not available for XLE AWD.

That's not a bad price considering how hard is to get an XLE AWD. Of the 1600+ Siennas in the SouthEast Toyota region, buyatoyota.com shows 6 available XLE AWDs.

I paid 32,597 + 3% tax (977.91) + 56 tags + 269 dealer fee for out the door price of 33,900 for an XLE AWD w/ package 17 (GK), carpet mats, front and rear mud guards. I was targetting OTD of 34,000 and had one dealer beat another for the extra 100. I had many dealers tell me that that was a good price and they couldn't match it. I'm picking the van up this week.

You might be able to do 500-750 better but again, XLE AWD supply is low making it tough to bargain. If you're flexible on color and/or options, you might be able to get a better deal.

    Best of luck.

Hey another one!!!! Its a well known fact that really smart people buy the XLE AWD gk. The XLE AWD with gk and cf (floor mats) only is really rare for some reason. I guess most people either step up to the Limited or want the DVD or the moon roof. I had to drive 350miles to get a decent deal on mine. This was last year when dealers were not moving off MSRP in the St. Louis area. At the time it was a good but not great price. I had offers to order one for just over $2500 off OTD but I actually found one on the ground in the exact color I wanted (salsa red) and stone leather at my favorite dealer (Vic Toyota, Springfield MO near KC). I have about 4k miles on it now and its pretty good other than lower than expected fuel economy.

    MSRP: $35071
    Dealer fees: $90
    OTD: $35161
    Discount: $2319
    NET: $32842

I include all the fees in the OTD price before getting the discount number. I dont include tax and tags as a factor. Crypie it looks like you got a pretty good price too. Around here its not possible to get any lower than that (that I'm aware of).
  • lambsterlambster Member Posts: 15
What kind of mileage are you getting with the XLE AWD? Spec says 18 City/ 24 Highway.

You don't sound too enthusiastic in your post.

I'm picking up my XLE AWD this week.
  • nematodenematode Member Posts: 448
In mostly (>75%) highway I get 17-19mpg at 65-75mph. If I keep it closer to 65mph and do 90% highway it will hit 20.0mpg. If I'm doing mostly city I get 14mpg. I should add those are calculated values and not estimated from the trip computer which read 3-5mpg high (usually 4 high). My trip computer thinks I'm getting 22-25mpg.

If you do mostly city driving I would expect about 13-15mpg (14 is realistic). The 18mpg city is a load of doodie unless you live somewhere you can drive down hill all the time. The 24mpg highway number is also high in my opnion.

My official numbers for the Sienna AWD are 13-15city 18-21mpg highway. My bet is thats where you will be. From the Sienna Club I think I still have the best overall mpg in an AWD.

I suspected that the EPA numbers were a high just based on the size of the van before I got it. Its 4200lbs and has AWD so I suspected the actual numbers would be lower than the EPA estimates. If the EPA would actually drive the cars instead of running them on a dyno we may get better estimates.

I am dealing on a 2004 LE 8 passenger FWD. The list price is $28041. I currently have a deal for $26250 out the door plus tax and tags. That is $1800 below the list price and $1250 above the edmunds invoice price of $24990.

Help, I have to finalize the deal soon. Is this a good deal?
  • mrluckymrlucky Member Posts: 1
2 questions. This after almost 4 months of internet searching and being quoted anywhere from 1500.00 over MSRP to 300.00 over invoice

I was told by one dealer that you can only get certain packages in certain areas. I tried to build my sienna using buyatoyota.com and the desired package wasn't available in that region. I then ordered one and supposedly the dealer I ordered from told me that it would not be a problem.

That being said, my second question is the general idea of an XLE FWD, Stratoshpere Mica with package 14, rear spoiler, carpet mats, running boards, and chromatic mirror. They are predicting 8-10 weeks delivery time out the door price of 32,100. They said it was $300.00 over invoice, but I found them to be a lil higher than that. Didn't want to argue over the 300 in question.

I guess I am just looking for feedback to see if I was treated right and if I am really LUCKY .
  • crypiecrypie Member Posts: 3
lambster - yup, I made a mistake about the package number. It is pkg #17.

Based on the feedback, this price seems pretty close to the best deals I've heard of. I walked out on the dealer, so I think he's not going to go much lower. Hopefully I'll pull the trigger on it today.

I'll keep the board informed ;) thanks for the feedback.

    Hi,
I am looking to buy a 04 Sienna LE with BW (pkg 7) in the MA area. I know that Autofair in NH offers good deals. Does anybody know of Massachusetts dealers willing to be reasonable in their negotations?
     Thanks for sharing experiences.

I've seen a number of posts about the lack of dealers willing to deal in Northern VA. I found this was true, but eventually found that Fitzgerald Lakeforest Toyota in Gaithersburg, MD was very willing to deal. Their initial and only offer was $200 over invoice on any LE and $300 over invoice on any XLE. I didn't inquire about CEs or Limiteds as I wasn't interested in them, but they have been very easy and straighforward to deal with.

My vehicle will be in this week - I'll post a follow-up once I actually go down there to pay and pick-up.

Planned to purchase an XLE with pkg 16 in Austin Texas, but ended with an XLE Limited with pkg 5,arctic frost pearl, and carpet floor mats/door sill protector. MSRP $37,450.00, dealer discount $2,500.00. Paid $34950+T&TL. XLE + pkg 16+running boards+mudguards was quoted as $33,400.00+T&TL. But I paid $1600.00 for the extra features in Limited.

for all those who haven't bought yet, I had a great car buying experience. I had called all the dealers in the NJ/eastern PA region and even walked out of 2 because of deals gone bad. We happened to be going away for the weekend and I decided to call some dealers along the way. I ended up calling Fitgerald Lakeforest Toyota in Gaithersburg, MD. They quoted me a price over the phone that was lower than ANY dealer in NJ/PA despite all my haggling with those awful dealers. Their motto is: NO HAGGLING. The price is the price. They even have a website where you can look at their inventory and rock bottom prices posted right there on their site!! I ended up getting a Sienna LE with pkg 8 in silver shadow pearl ( a hard color to come by around here) for $2400 under MSRP. AGain, that price was posted on their website!! THey also gave me $2000 more for my trade-in ('99 loaded VW Passat) than any other dealer offered me. I called, rechecked their site, gave all my info for the paperwork over the phone on the way down, showed up, they looked at my VW, offered me a price ( I accepted their FIRST offer because it was so much higher than I had gotten offered before). I signed the paperwork, and was out of there! It was too good to be true. I plan to buy ALL my future vehicles from them. ( they sell a lot of other makes besides Toyota). Even though I live in NJ and they are in MD, it's worth it. Check into it if you are in an acceptable driving distance. It's totally worth it, and totally stress free!!!

    5 CA tire fee
    45 doc fee
    26573 out the door

Crypie, I paid $33,200 for a XLE AWD with#17 and floor mats. Take the Sienna. I picked mine up last week and I love it, the kids love it. I am in the northeast and not many people want AWD, I do not get it.

I had to wait 3 weeks for it to be built and shipped. Worth the wait. Let me know if I can help any further.

I had an interesting experience with a dealer in eastern PA. They told me they could get the car I wanted (LE, Pkg 7, silver shadow) but didn't have it in stock at the time. They would get it from another dealer. They called the next day to ask when I wanted to come get it. It had just gotten there. Out of my excitement and curiosity I commented on how great it was that they got it from another dealer and asked where it came from ( since I had called ALL the dealers in the area and none of them had one). They said Virginia. Virginia???? So I asked how did it get up here to PA? Someone drove it. My next question was, how many miles are on it? 604!!!!! They were going to sell me this vehicle and 'forget' to mention that it had miles on it. Lucky I asked. I showed up at the dealership anyway because they offered a sweet deal due to the existing 604 miles. There was a ding in the bumper from a rock I suppose, with paint missing. Then they offered me little for my trade. I walked out. The next day the General Manager called me to harrass me over the phone and tell me I was the most difficult customer they ever had to deal with. Oh, right, because I didn't want a car with miles and a ding in the bumper?? I reminded him that had someone ASKED me if I wanted a van from Virginia, I would have told him NO. So now they have a van sitting on their lot that will be hard to sell and they blamed it on me. Not my fault buddy, I didn't ask you to get a van with miles on it from Virginia did I??? SO a lesson to you all? Be sure to check the mileage before you go any further, and if they get a van from another dealer for you, be sure to have it flatbedded instead. I ended up getting one with NO miles from another dealer ( see my other post for my happy ending)

Forgot to tell you on my other post that Fizgerald Lakeforest Toyota in Gaithersburg Md offeres discounted Warranty Plans. Their finance manager does not make commission like most. She gets paid a salary regardless of how many warranties she sells. We got ours for 6 yrs/75K miles for only $745. She said she'll sell them to people even if you didn't buy the car there. They are great!
  • bondguy1bondguy1 Member Posts: 231
You better check your warranty to make sure it is a Toyota Warranty. I would be willing to bet it's not. Not that other warranties aren't good, but from some of the posts online I've already seen, people were buying a warranty from Toyota dealer only to find out it's not a Toyota Factory Extended warranty. One of the benefits of Toyota warranty is that they bill dealership directly if you use it and you don't have to come out of pocket for expenses. They are also transferable and if you sell your vehicle before the warranty expiration is up, you can get a prorated refund on it. I personally wouldn't want a warranty unless it was a Toyota one. By the way, congrats on your new van. We just took delivery of the same on XLE Limited in Arctic Frost w/ Stone Leather two weeks ago. Also with package 5 like yours. By the way, Fitzgerald also has a dealer in Pennsylvania and they claim to quote $650 over invoice...if you talk to their internet department, they will sell at $100 over invoice. They are the same relation as the Fitzgerald Toyota in MD and they have several dealers throughout the northeast area.

I'm curious what dealer it was in PA. If you don't want to post the dealer name, at least the town the dealer is in?
Despite my username, I stopped looking in August of last year when we got our Sienna LE. I only had one bad experience with a dealer the entire time we were looking. Your post made me think of it. I can say that I am very happy that I decided to wait for this van. It was definitely worth all the hassle and aggravation I went through!
  • hardy13hardy13 Member Posts: 11
Yes, I checked my paperwork and it says Toyota Extra Care with the toyota Logo on it. It's the platinum coverage level with a $50 deductable. So I'd assume it's from Toyota, not someone else. I must say, I loved Fiztgerald Auto Mall and I love my new van. I figured out I got the van for $400 over invoice. They gave me the internet price even though I called. They were great!
  • hardy13hardy13 Member Posts: 11
The dealership where I had a bad experience was in East Stroudsburg, Pa. Everything was going along fine until I found it had miles on it. Then they offered me more money off, a coupon book for free oil changes and lower financing as a way to get me to still buy it. After I walked out I was OK with the whole thing, but after the manager was so nasty and unprofessional on the phone to me, I was left with a very bad feeling.
  • still_lookingstill_looking Member Posts: 3
It was a longshot that it was the same dealer, but I had to ask. The dealership I had the bad experience with is in Springfield, PA. I drove past the other day and noticed an "Under New Management sign". I thought maybe they treated enough people the same way they did me and started losing customers.

What rate did the dealership get you and for how many months? I think rates have come down drastically even in the last 2 weeks. What equipment (options) did your van have and what was price before tax, title, etc...?
  • hardy13hardy13 Member Posts: 11
I got 3.99 thru Capital One. That was for 60 months. Yes, you are right that rates have come down. We are building a house and locked in our mortgage rate and got a terrific one. They just dropped again last week. Anyway, We got a 7 passenger LE in Silver Shadow Pearl with LE package # 8 (BY) and also Z1. The sticker price was 28619. We got the car for 26207. It was posted on their website of course. Even their invoice price is posted. The car was 400 over invoice and 2400 under MSRP. They had to call a dealer in NJ to get the info on title and tags here since they didn't have a clue how much to charge me for that stuff. they charged a very fair price for that, much less than dealers here in NJ. Looking back, I probably could have gotten 500 more for my trade but I was so happy and in such a good mood at that point, I just took what they offered me since it was so very fair! We had looked all week, I had called and e-mailed tons of dealers, visited 2 and walked out on both. It was a very stressful week with a happy ending. The dealers were surprised at how much I knew and the hard bargain I drive. Well DUH! One has to do their homework before buying. I still cannot believe there are people out there who pay full price for cars. It makes me sick!

I just got my XLE FWD Sienna w/ package #12 + CF option from City Toyota at Daly City (San Francisco Bay Area). I bought mine for $29795 + $45 (doc fee) + tax (8.25%) + title/registration. Most dealers in Northern California quote the invoice around $ 29400 while Edmund invoice is about $28957. I can say that i pays about $900 over Edmund invoice OR $3000 off $32871 MSRP.

I got BAD news for you: you've been ripped off!

Although she didn't lie about she can sell to anyone even the ones who didn't buy the vehicle at her dealership. By the same token, you can buy from any other dealer TOO!

I know one dealer is selling the genuine *Toyota Extra Care Extended Service Contract* Platinum package 7yr/75k with ZERO deductible for the 2004 Sienna for, get this, $515!

And you paid $745 for 6yrs/75K with $50 deductible? The good news is that you can go back to ask them to change to match the above or you will cancel it and buy from somewhere else.

Your purchasing price of the van is pretty good though. Congratulations and enjoy it!

I don't know Toyota's policy, but some factory backed extended warranties can't be repurchased if you cancel it. Best check with Toyota before cancelling.

When I was in the finance office to sign paper work for my 04 Sienna, I was offered a $1,765.00
7 year warranty. Of course I declined it. Is such offer standard?

I would say 'ripped off' is a strong term for a difference of $230. The finance woman made it very clear that I could purchase this elsewhere, or even later on. There was no pressure and it was our choice to buy. I am very happy with the entire deal and to me $230 is no biggie. But thanks for the info!! Care to share the name of the dealer for others who may be shopping??

When I went to take delivery of my Sienna XLE with #14 on March 06, 04 I had a check from my credit union who offered me 4.49% for 60 months. The finance manager in the dealership offered to give me very good rate if I would like to talk to him. Finally he gave me 2.59% but he said that he would like to sell some warranty. Since I was not interested in 3rd party warranties, he gave me toyota platinum 6/75000/0 for $1650. I said that I wanted 7/100000/0 for $825. Finally the deal was made for 7/75000/0 for $860 and finance for 5 years @2.59%.

I know that I have not got the best deal for warranty but when look at the deal with financing, I think that I made a good deal. What do you guys thaink?

    I am in Chicago suburbs.
