rip off is on the strong side. i just wanted to reveal that she lied to you! people often negotiate so hard to have the dealer come down say *$230*, but turn around gave that all back to the financing dept. part of the reason is because there's no published invoice price for the warranty. that's why i posted it to help you and others who will be in the similar situation. i hate to see people paying more than they have to.

the difference is more than just $230! what about 7 years instead of 6? also the $50 deductible, that's huge! imagine a few visits to the dealer for warranty repair, you quickly out of pocket hundreds of dollars. i definitely will choose zero deductible.

i would like to share the info. however, posting name and number might be against the rule of this board. so if anyone is interested, e-mail me, i will reply ASAP.

Could you post the dealership name and the overall experience? Also, was the financing Toyota or a 3rd party bank? Thanks!

i send you an e-mail, but was returned for the reason of "User unknown in local recipient table". i tried again, same result. :(

I own a great 2003 Econoline 350 passenger van. Bought new and got a great deal on it. Currently owe about $12,780 on it. The problem is its gas mileage. About 11-12 city & maybe 17 hiway. I knew it had poor mileage when I bought it but I was banking that gas prices wouldn't go above $1.60. WRONG! Anyways, I would like to trade it in on a 2004 Toyota Sienna van AWD. Price is about $31,000. Blue book on my van is around $21,000. I know the Toyota dealer won't budge from the MSRP much. I'm also afraid he won't give me anywhere near the blue book on my van. (why would he want a full size gas guzzler sitting on his lot). I haven't been through the dealer yet to ask questions because I don't want to show my hand yet. Any thoughts on this? What's the experience on trade-ins on the Sienna? Mucho appreciate it!

If you drive at a constant 55-65mph it may get 20mpg or so but thats about it. If you are closer to 75mph then its closer to 18mpg highway. The 24mpg EPA rating is really high based on what I have seen. My XLE AWD gets about 18mpg in >75% highway driving. In the city its 13-15mpg. Its a 4200lb van with AWD so I'm not sure how the EPA got such high numbers for it.

The financing is from Chase Manhattan bank and the dealership is schaumburg toyota.

the deal was pretty smooth. Internet department was good in communication and delivered the van to me exactly at price negotiated and on time.

Since I wanted Arctic Frost Pearl with package 14, floor mats with sil etc, it was not in their lot and I had to wait for 4 weeks before they got one.

    hope it will help you.

We picked up a Salsa Red XLE Limited w/option package 5,
floor-mats/door-sill protection, and an extra pair of headphones,
for $35,750 from Melody Toyota in San Bruno, CA (San Francisco Bay
Area). MSRP on this is $37,248. We ended up saving $1500 off of MSRP,
which isn't too bad. However, this was about 6 to 7 percent above
invoice, which is a bit more than I wanted to pay, but still
reasonable, I think, given the demand for this car.

We originally wanted an XLE in Stratosphere Mica w/option package 14,
but there appeared be none in the area matching that. We briefly
considered an LE on the lot that had most of the options we wanted,
but realized we would be giving up too many other options that were
important to us. Apparently there aren't many Straosphere Micas in
    the Bay Area, period.

Our decision to get the XLE Limited over an XLE came mostly down to
color choices. Even though the dealership had plenty of XLE's in
stock with most or all of the options we wanted, none of them were
in colors that we wanted. We ended up getting more of a car than
we meant to because we had to have Red, Blue or Green for a car
color. While we could've ordered a specfic model in the options
we wanted, we didn't feel like waiting 10 to 12 weeks for it.

While we already had financing from my credit-union at 5.45%, the
dealer managed to get us 4.82% from Chase Manhattan, so we went
    with Chase Manhattan.

Buying from Melody Toyota for the most part was a pleasant experience.
We walked in Monday night at around 7pm and walked out around 10pm
with a new car. The dealership closes at 9pm, but they stayed late
to complete the deal, and let us leave one of cars on the lot until
we could come pick it up the next day. They were willing to deal on
the car's price, went the extra mile to get us the car that night,
and didn't pressure us at all. We did have to go back the next day
to get the remote for the DVD player, but that was only thing missing.
All in all, it was a good buying experience.

About two weeks ago, the DW and I purchased a 2004 Sienna LE w/ #4 package for $25,500. The MSRP was $28,499. Had a great buying experience with the dealership and would recommend anyone to check them out, especially at month-end when sales quotas need to be filled. We love the van and can't wait to use it on a road trip to Walt Disney World!

Should pick up a Salsa Red XLE with traction control, moon roof and side air bags for 500 over invoice. Working with fleet was the way to go. After we determined what we wanted, I called each fleet mamager in Phoenix to find out who could give me the best price. I was qouted $2,500, $995, $800 and $500. $500 won. We too wanted the Stratosphere Mica, none to be found unless we waited a good month and even then it wasn't clear if we'd get it. We financed at 72 months at 4.39 fixed, my bank offeed 4.25 variable. It was a $2 difference and decided to go fixed. We went with the warranty, I wish I had read this post. I was originally qouted $1200 but he quickly dropped it to $900, $50 deductable for 72 months. Overall I'm real happy. I'll do better on the warranty next time.

I too would like to know the name of the dealer where wildred go his extended warranty. It is okay to give the name of the dealership. Tried to e-mail wildred but no response.

Just purchased LE-7 FWD Sienna w/ package #7 + Wireless headphones and Z1 from Darcars in Frederick, MD. Price was $25,432 plus $100 processing plus tax, title, and registration. This was about $449 over Edmunds invoice (which seems to represent the dealer advertising fee?). I passed on the extended warranty (they wanted $995 for the 6 year/90K).

Just curious to know the color and window sticker price. I had called them to see what vehicles they had, but ended up buying elsewhere. Over the phone, their quote wasn't as good as I had hoped. Did you have to do a lot of haggling? Or was that the first quote you got? And was there a trade-in involved? Thanks
  • rob2rob2 Member Posts: 5
Color was Stratosphere Mica and sticker was $28,051. Their internet site showed the sale price as $25,432. I called and spoke to an internet sales guy. Interestingly, he said they had just lowered prices to beat Carmax. He said they normally tacked on freight ($540) to the internet price, but now it is already included in the price. Since this was the color, package and price we wanted, we went out the next day and purchased. I tried to haggle lower, but had no luck. They wanted to give me $500 for my 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo so there was no trade-in involved.

I had a great experience with my dealer in Illinois. I purchased an XLE FWD with package #1 for $26,940 plus tax, title. NO DOC FEE. This equates to 3% over invoice, and I believe $356.00 TDA (TDA is high), but I received my van in 5 weeks after ordering, with only $200 deposit. My salesman was very straight forward with this offer, no beating around the bush.

I purchased the Toyota Extra Care Platinum Extended Warranty of 7yr/100k, no deductible for $775. This price is if you purchase your vehicle through them, but the Finance Manager has also offered the same extended warranty to non-buyers for $795. This is only $20-$25 over their cost.
I don't know the prices on coverage less than 7yr/100k, but you may contact the dealer. I understand I can give out Dealer name, City, State, so here it goes:

    KC Summers Toyota
    Mattoon, IL

If you want to contact them for a price quote to purchase a Sienna, please contact me through my email for additional information.

I agree with you on the Laser Cruise Control. I totally love that stuff.
Wow. So you got almost $4K off MSRP. That's great.
  • silly1040silly1040 Member Posts: 48
Yes, very happy with the price paid.

I also had the 3M Clear Bra installed two days after delivery. It cost $450 installed and worth every penny.

I put the clear bra on myself to our 2001 RX300. We bought the Sienna because we needed more room, so we decided to sell the RX300. The Bra had been on for 4 years in the Las Vegas heat. With a lot of muscle I was able to remove the bra to prepare for sell. There was a little glue left behind that I removed with some elbow grease and adhesive remover. When I was done you could not tell where the edge of the bra had been. I was told that the bra allows the sun through to fade the paint in the same amount as the rest of the car. The best part was that were the bra was, there were no chips. I still needed touch up paint on a few areas that were not covered by the bra, but they were small and few between.

I'm sure that the bra on my Sienna will hold up as well, and I'm very happy to have someone else apply it. The Lexus to 6 hours.

There are several companies who carry it. I bought my kit for the Lexus through www.Expel.com but used www.ultrashieldusa.com for the Sienna. I'm sure that as this becomes more popular, more and more companies will be popping up.

I did not realize they make a Clear front mask, as opposed to a black leather front mask?
I would not mind spending like $100 for it, but $450 installed seems a little bit high for me.

Well, I suppose since you got such a huge discount to begin with, the $450 did not "hurt" as bad, huh? :-)

Hopefully the price will go down in the near future.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
NAV costs more than AAA maps too :-)

I think it's nice stuff but it is pricy. I met an installer two months ago and he said the material has high petroleum content and will always be expensive. Check out Car front end protective bras & film in the archives for more. Or the active Toyota Sienna Owners: Accessories & Modifications board.

Just got an offer on XLE AWD with package#17. the total price is $32500 including $75 doc fee.
    How does this offer sound?
  • lambsterlambster Member Posts: 15
    toyota2004,

That's a pretty good price. I spent about the same for my XLE AWD, package #17, with carpet mats and f/r mudguards. I'm in the southeast where AWD supply is tight. Might be able to bargain better in other regions.

if a dealer offers me any Sienna I want, in stock or special order, for $600 over invoice wouldnt that be considered a fair deal as far as Siennas go? i've only been searching about a week and am getting prices all over the board. dealers in my area are telling me they can't get me the model/package we want so we need to travel a few hours out of state (don't mind. this rules out a traditional face to face negotiations on an instock model. let me know what you think. this seems ok to get exactly what we want, but if you think i can do better let me know.

Anyone know? Dealer is asking $500 deposit for the Sienna. Shouldn't $100 be legally binding (contract wise)?
Also, he's asking for a Credit card deposit - is that safe these days - will he run an unneccesary credit check?

Any pointers from you all will be appreciated.

I tried all over northern California and could not find this vehicle with package #18 plus floor mats. They all said if I could find one I would have to pay MSRP as they were in short supply (the LXE AWD). I found one in southern Oregon but they were willing to only go $700 below MSRP which is 35,731. The quote from Cars Direct was $33294. Then I got a call from the Costco representative who quoted me $32750. The same person was the representative from both CarsDirect and Costco and he said the Costco price is better than the CarsDirect price. He finally found my car for me in Walnut Creek and transferred it to Hanlees in Davis. I drove 240 miles and it was exactly what I wanted at the agreed on price. The only dissappointment was that they wanted $1200 for the Platinum extended warranty, so I did not get it. I quoted prices from Edmund's as $500-$800 but they would not come down. That was a Costco discount of 20% off of $1500.
Could I get the warranty for $795 from Matoon, IL as quoted? Is there a time limit? I purchased the car 3/20/04. I got the Desert Sand Mica, and I love it. It is a wonderful car and I feel lucky that I was able to get it for $3000 below MSRP since it is in such short supply in this area.
  • garnerjgarnerj Member Posts: 31
$500 is reasonable it protects the Dealer in case they order a van that is a hard seller and you decide not to go through. $100 might be too tempting for you to walk away from...

As for the Credit Card... DO IT that way NO other. It would be MUCH harder to get your money back if you wrote a check should something happen. Credit cards can be disputed...

This is the exact amount I put down and I did it with Credit card...

Good luck and soon welcome to the wonderful world of Sienna ownership!
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
I wouldn't want to put a non-refundable deposit down on a car. Too much can happen while waiting for delivery and few cars are so unique that the dealer won't be able to unload it. Putting up a refundable deposit on a credit card should be enough evidence of intent to buy a car. Plus the dealer can't idle along knowing that it has your money for good, but has to get the car timely in order to get paid.

And you can casually mention that you check your credit report frequently and don't expect to see them running your credit (unless you are financing through the dealer?).

Looking to purchcase 04 Sienna LE Statoshere Mica (dark blue) with package #6 or #8 and ext. warranty in about a month or sooner. Anybody in this area baught similar? If so would you mind sharing what I can expect to pay. Where did you get good service etc. Thanks
  • hardy13hardy13 Member Posts: 11
As far as credit checks, I believe they cannot check your credit without a drivers license. Sometimes they require a license when you give a down payment. To avoid having your credit checked without your knowledge, you can provide them with your own photocopy of your license. After you make the copy write "no unauthorized credit checks please" right across your the picture of your face. That way, if there is ever a dispute, they'll have your photocopy right in your file with your writing on it. They really are not supposed to check credit without approval or your signature, but some of them do anyway.

toyota2004 - That sounds like a great price for an XLE AWD / pck #17 ($32500). Autofair is listing that same package at over $34000.

Can you please post the dealer name?

    Thanks!

  • garnerjgarnerj Member Posts: 31
Yah I would have liked to go that way... the dealer asked me for my license # and entered it into the computer :( I verbally told them no credit check... to which they replied ohh its not a credit check.. just to a check to verify you are who you are you are....

Yah right we'll see next time I pull my credit report.

Something else they showed my when I picked up my vehicle... A printout from a database by the Department of Homeland Security. They are now running checks against your name (name only not SSN) against the Known Terrorist database. I guess I could see why... see who is buying very large conversion vans....

I was kind of peeved about the driver license thing... but if they did run a check... it would have been within a week or so of my loan app... so it would not damage my credit... Also in the end I have a nice new shiny Sienna in my garage, that wonderful new car smell in the air, a nice new car payment..., oh and a BIG Bill due to the DMV for my plates....

regarding your question, Could I get the warranty for $795 from Matoon, IL as quoted? Is there a time limit?

While I don't believe there is a time limit on this offer, I think if you are at all interested in getting the extended warranty, you should do it now. This is a good offer, and the the price will only increase in time (as dealer's cost increases).
  • davenowdavenow Member Posts: 171
i agree, do it now... I've emailed my request and they have responed positively back with honoring the price. I'm just waiting for the paper-work in the mail and i'll send them a check.

I just picked up an LX 8 pass, strat mica with package 7. I will post all of the numbers later, including the TDA. But before then I wanted to comment on the warrenty. I wasn't going to buy one, but they offered, with little hagleing, the Toyota premium, zero deductable, 6 year, 75,000 warrenty for $645. So I bought it. Based on an earlier post I thought that this was below dealer cost, but I know that this dealer wasn't going below cost to give me this deal. They say the warrenty is one of the highest profit margin parts of the new car deal. Maybe the margin is more than we thought.

Also, those cordless headphones, the dealer cost is $40 and they can get them out of the parts dept, don't need to order them with the car. A nice extra if you arn't getting them already and you sense some wiggle room.
  • weedshastaweedshasta Member Posts: 85
Thanks for the feedback. I have tried to e-mail Wildred (see post #3541). He lives in San Francisco and I am in the northern part of the state. He says he knows a dealer that will sell the warranty for $515 (7yd/75K/0ded).So far no response. Has anyone else gotten the dealer information from him? If I don't hear by this weekend I will contact K.C.Summers Toyota. Does anyone have the name of the contact person there (and e-mail address)? Thanks.
  • weedshastaweedshasta Member Posts: 85
It looks like you cannot post names or e-mail contact information. I looked up the dealership on the net. When I e-mail them, who do I put attention to? Finance? Accounting? Thanks.
  • seowfunseowfun Member Posts: 1
I'm also interested in the $795 warranty deal for 7 year/100k. I'm in Arizona, and please let me know how I should contact the dealer. Thanks!

I was lied badly about the warranty when I buy my Sienna. She told me I have to buy it before driving the car out of the lot (which I find out later I can buy it as long as the car is under 3 year and under 36k), and she show me the suggested retail price and said this was her cost and she can't lower it. I bought it, and of course cancel it after that.
  • spongenspongen Member Posts: 19
The best way to contact the dealer is by calling them. Please email me and I will give you the contact information.

If you want to send an email, I would send it to the attention of "Finance Manager".

You don't have to go with the 7/100k coverage, they will offer a great price on 7/75k and lower also.

Seowfun.....suggestion, better check with them also to be sure you can get the Toyota Extra Care Ext Warranty after your cancellation with a different dealer. It may be fine, but as mentioned earlier on this board by Steve, not sure if there is a stipulation against this action.
  • garnerjgarnerj Member Posts: 31
Now I ponder this... Looks like there is almost a $300 difference between the two...

The last vehicle I put about 12k a year on. My current trunk I am putting about 8k a year on...

I may be more apt to travel long trips with the Sienna...

    Any thoughts?

does toyota have a site that descibes what they cover? and what they don't, and also when you can buy it. it seems it's another vague region the dealer can use lack of info to milk you. perhaps someone in the know can list the particulars
thanks. i plan on getting a ltd with nav/dvd

also i wish edmunds could email you when a response to your comment is made like at appleinsider.com

Hi Everyone, I love this forum and thank everyone for posting such valuable information. I just gave $500 deposit for Sienna XLE with GJ and CF package, Phantom Gray color to a Connecticut dealer. To my surprise, while shopping around, I found that one should also pay attention to the invoice price. I found dealers charging 1000 to 2500 about invoice with the difference of 3000 between the lowest and the highest invoice price. I believe I got a good deal from this dealer. Invoice+dealer's profit is 32,400 plus 250 dealership fees. Is that really a good deal ? I have been given 6-10 weeks wait time as Toyota does not manufacture XLE with GJ package - this will be a special order. Typically how much time does it take in case of such special orders ? Any information will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Is there a way to verify a vin # on a potential new vehicle. Calling around, found a dealer in another state working to find me a vehicle. Says he'll need a deposit as soon as he finds it in order to move the car to him and for me to pick it up. He says he'll give me the vin # but what can I do to verify its the vehicle he says before driving the whole way there??
    Can I call Toyota?

Just a quick question for anyone out there...is there a way for a dealership to prove that they have ordered the van for you? Long story short, we have been working with a dealer for 4 weeks now trying to get a 8 passenger LE, package #4. First, he was going to try to locate the car but no luck so we were under the impression that he had ordered the van. My husband talked with the salesman a couple of times this week and he keeps giving us different stories. I don't believe he has ordered it and I want to demand our deposit back unless he has ordered it and go elsewhere. Just want to make sure he has really ordered before we continue working with him.

Also, if anyone has any good experiences with dealers in the Northeast Ohio area, please let me know!!!! Thanks!

    You said -
I paid 35,414 out the door. The only other costs are sales tax and license.

This was in the south west and sale was completed at the end of February.

    ----------------

I have the exact vehicle sitting in my garage right now. On a 'extended' test drive - must return it tomorrow by noon.
your out the door price caught my eye.. I am in Phoenix, and my dealer is in the huge 'autoplex' in a neighboring town.
where in the southwest did you buy, and do you love your XLE LTD ?

Also, this dealer said what was on the lot is what you get. he couldn't even order one. This vehicle is the Green Pearl, which I could live with, but I would really 'prefer' the smoke gray.
Is this dealer full of it ?

    regards,
    nickles .......
