    I love that color. Now is that Indigo Ink or Brilliant Blue? I really liked the Brilliant Blue, but they discontinued it.

    Glad you like it. I believe the color is called "Electric Blue" if I'm not mistaken. I didn't know they had discontinued any of the blues... Anyway, it looks really good in bright sunlight, and very dark otherwise. And I've scribbled "Stop Thief!!" "This Has Been Stolen!!" and other such comments all over the back of the wheelcovers in magic marker. So far, they're still there. The guy at the gas station who put them on got a kick out of it : )

    particularly like the Echo's looks;yours looks pretty good.It certainly is a much better look then Toyota's ROXY model.Not bad at all.

    As for the molding, I used Armor all many months ago, but usually just get it washed, sometimes use the hot wax at the car wash, nothing special. And lleroi?.... huh?

    It was late at night and I was in a mellow mood.Blu echo had taken the time to post his picture,so I looked.He obiviously likes his car and it did look nice.Maybe it's the color or the hubcaps.It just did not seem appropriate to "grill"him ,but I will keep the heat on you.

    like that in the future.It seems the ECHOs feminine side(along with it's hoodline)has a little more style then I realized.It looks like a "major"improvement has taken place in the ECHO topic.

    In twenty three days, I will have owned my Echo for a year.

    I have put around 19,000 miles on the car and I have found one drawback.

    It sure made my personal property tax jump.

    If I count the days until I get rid of it, I will have to start counting with the number three thousand, six hundred, and fifty since I plan on keeping my Echo for about ten years.

    I used the Armor All spray, not the wipes. But I only did it that one time, the last time I waxed. The wax job seems to be holding up very well, I used Zymöl and was pleased with the results.

    Just took a ride in my friend's new Explorer Sportrac...the back seat is not very comfortable! Despite the huge exterior, the back seat has you with our knees in the air. There is an abundance of headroom and hip room but I did not want to be back there for very long! The Echo is small but at least you can sit normally in back! :)

    How does one insert a photo into the message, like with the blue Echo? I just have a box on my screen for writing a title, then a larger box for the content of this message. And a Post my Message button at the bottom. With some instructions I might send one too. If it's ok.

    If you go to the top of this screen, to the Echo Owner's Club, there's a topic in there called "Photo Gallery", where the first message gives you details about different ways to insert an image. Hope that helps, I'd love to see more pictures!

    Hello! I will be purchasing an ECHO soon (today, perhaps). One thing I am wondering that I didn't check out when I did the test drive: If you forget to turn off the headlights, is there a warning indicator? Anyone know? Thanks! Jill in MI

    If you take the keys out of the ignition and the headlights are still on, there is a beep to remind you to turn them off. One of the first things I did when I got the car home was to check to make sure there was a warning, and was happy to see that there is.

    Yes, there is a useful annoying beep, which has saved my battery on more than one occasion. Enjoy the new car!

    You said a little bit back about your wheel covers being stolen from your Echo. Don't feel bad. My friend has a 2000 silver Echo sedan, and someone stole her wheel covers as well. I thought it to be strange, but it did happen.

    I have had alloy wheels on every car I ever had except the first two (have had 6 in 4 years), and never had a problem with wheel covers or alloys being taken. And this friend of mine lives like 4 blocks from me. Weird.

    Has he been detained?Hopefully he is just enjoying his new"Daewoo".Do you think some cult has chosen the Echo hubcaps as some kind of symbolic relic for pagan rituals?Is it a coincidence that both the hubcaps and the major are missing.This could get spooky.Any other strange things going on -like a dramatic decline in gas mileage in your Echoes?

    It could be a cult, but could be something more boring: do the ECHO's wheel covers bolt on, as on some cars? If not, they're easy pickings. And if they don't bolt on, they're easier to lose and thus demand may be higher. And the cars are fairly rare, so supply may not keep up with demand. And finally, have you priced OEM wheel covers lately? I don't know what Toyota charges, but I went to buy a replacement cover for my Caravan and it was $125--for a piece of plastic!! I could buy a really nice-looking 16" alloy wheel for less than that. Or a set of four decent-looking wheel covers off the Internet for $40. Which I did.

    When mine got ripped off (rather easily) toyota wanted $130 for a new one, so I got the Corolla covers on eBay for around $60. Maybe people are srtinging them up as Christmas decorations...

    ¿Keeping your Echo for ten years? it make a lot of sense, first of all nobody will buy it, second: at that time it will be ready to go to the trash yard or to the museum of mistakes.

    My 2001 Echo is only 2 months old and has 1,800 miles on it. About a month ago, the exhaust started smelling terrible (rotten eggs) and it lasted about 2-3 weeks. The smell seems to be gone, but my mileage has decreased almost 20%--and that's after the smell subsided. I'm wondering if anyone else had this problem. I have a 5-speed and use 87 or 89 octane gas.

    Seems like something is wrong with your emissions controls. Have your dealer check it out.
    I saw the Echo slugline...is that a Canadian version or were they trying to disguise it? I haven't seen them with black bumpers before.
    Also, anyone install 15" wheels on theirs yet?

    and thought it was an Echo, but wasn't sure, since the rear bumper
    looked different (it didn't look gold like the rest of the car, it looked like it was black). But I was fascinated to finially see an Echo on tv- they don't advertise for them at all here in south Florida, so it was fun to see one featured in a tv movie,

    My 2000 echo is going in tomorrow to figure out the problem with my slipping clutch.

    2 years old 90% highway mileage with 30,000km (18,000 miles)

    started to slip at highway speeds when I went to pass and is now slipping in all gears.

    Dealer says probably wear due to bad driving (must control fists)

    other car is at 180,000km (108,000miles) on first clutch and previous honda civic was good for 120,000 between clutch jobs.

    Apparently the clutch is non-adjustable and will cost about $800-$1000 CDN to replace.

    They better find a defect and cover it or there will be many unpleasant conversations with Toyota coming up.

    Please post if you are experiencing clutch problems.

    Here in Buffalo all is well with my Echo. I've had it about 10 months, 12,000 miles. Don't have a clutch, but that seems WAy early to have to install a new one. Is that the fist of death? Loved the Dilbert reference. I'm trying really hard, but can't seem to come up with any complaints.....oh except maybe how I don't really like it when the engine is cold and it doesn't want to go above 40mph while the blue light is on. Is it bad for the engine to try and go faster?

    Someone said that it is best to keep the revs down while the blue light is on, but there are times when I have to head out onto the highway while the blue light is still on. I do not have any problems with the car refusing to go above 40mph those times.

    I have a manual.

    I have a 2001 that is just eleven days shy of being mine for one year and I have over 20,000 miles. I have had no problem with the clutch slipping.

    I hope they do! The Yaris is the reason I bought my Echo in the first place. Loved the way it looked whenever I saw one overseas!

    I will be so mad if they make a hatchback version now that I already have my 2 door baby. I like hatchbacks. Truth be told, I had my eye on the Focus at first, but went with Toyota for obvious reasons. Is there a website where I could see what a YAris looks like?

    It's called the Echo in Austrailia...I have read very positive reviews of the Echo/Yaris from overseas publications and it was the European Car of the Year last year(or the year before)!!!
    I'm with you on hatchbacks...the only challenge would be to have a crumple zone in the rear.
    I especially like the sport versions!

    I purchased my 2001 Echo in March and it now has about 7600 miles on it. After a few thousand miles, the exhaust began to have the "rotten egg smell." This was in the summer, when the weather was pretty hot (> 90 F). We took the Echo to the dealer, but they said that if there was a problem with the emission control system, the Check Engine light would have come on. They checked it and couldn't find anything wrong. Their theory was that we had been using bad fuel (I guess this makes sense). Well, I haven't noticed any strange smells for a few months.
    However, the fuel economy has also decreased considerably. I know it's not supposed to be as good in cold weather (here in Oregon the temperatures are down to the 50's), but the economy has decreased from 41 MPG to 36. Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem? I drive 16 miles at mostly highway speeds twice a day.

    You might want to use the Search on the left sidebar for rotten egg - there has been at least one discussion on the Maintenance and Repair board about this phenomenon. My memory is fuzzy, but at one time the general consensus seemed to be a seasonal change in gasoline formulations in some parts of the country. (I spent a year in M&R, but haven't kept up with it in the past year or so since I've been over here.)

    Just a thought - good luck and if you do find some helpful stuff over there, let us know. Meanwhile perhaps others here have more thoughts for you.

    you ECHO fans or persons thinking of buying one better get them soon. WHY? According to 2 sources(one a dealership, one Autoweek) The ECHO is not selling in the numbers Toyota pojected for USA, so they will replace in with either(dealership said this, don't believ e it 100%) the Matrix in March, OR(or,a more likely story, from AutoWeek....)Toyota ECHO will be replaced with another car similar to ECHO(forgot name) itr will be around 150 or so inches in total length(12 1/2 feet long)and Hyundai and Mitsu both will have similar cars here in 18 to 24 months.
    They will be tall, wide "subcompacts" that seat five and will be around $10-$11,000 .
