I am a newbie to this forum. But thanks for all the discussions. It was very
helpful for me in making this decision.

    I just purchased a LE7 with BZ/WH/Z1 options. I got it 200$ below invoice at 26012.

The negotiated price was $ 26,012
    Processing fee 45
Tax 6% for NJ, 4 yrs registration 400
    TOTAL $ 28030
    Less Rebate 1000.0
OUT OF THE DOOR PRICE $ 27030

As for the rebate question above, rebates are taxable and should be included in determining the sales tax. It is not a pre-tax discount. But I understand different regions have different rebate amounts.

Previously I checked Darcars, Fitzmall and Boch. Darcars had the best internet price of 24300, Fitzmall gave me a quote for 25212 which was similar to Boch. Last week when I requested a quote, I received an e-mail from this NY dealer (where I am buying), that their price is 200 below invoice for this model if I purchase it in a few days. I slept over this for about a week and inquired the same car one week later. Another two big dealers that I talked in the area tossed all these prices and wanted me to pay about 27000$ for their 'great' servicename. Finally, I found the color I wanted at the first dealer I talked to and made the deal without any real negotiation. The guy kept telling me that I got a good deal.

After I made the deal, I got another note from autoland/NJ that their internet price is 26000$ (excluding the 1000 rebate). So I think I got a fair deal. What do you think?
  • tsle8ptsle8p Member Posts: 2
    You are right.
The processing is exceptionally low for NJ. Some now charge $199 "doc fee".
If the $200 below invoice does not include the $1000 rebate, than it is a good deal ($1200 below invoice) for NJ. The Darcars (Frederick, MD) is probably the best Internet dealer by far and I would buy from them again. :) When you compare a deals always inquire about mileage, as the deal may be a demo. Also ask if the car / van has any damage or was ever repaired, so you would not get a :lemon: .

    Hi All,
Two dealers in my area (So Cal) advertised this weekend with what appears to be great dealer discounts on ALL Siennas. Both have a $5k dealer discount and a $1k factory discount. Now, both stated that discounts are off of MSRP. In the past, I've always negotiated "factory" discounts off the invoice and then added a dealer profit like $+500. So, my question is… has anyone actually negotiated a final cost by subtracting a "dealer" discount off the invoice? It seems to me that the dealer is getting some type of compensation to deal $5k off the asking price; otherwise, why do it (maybe to sell more cars)? Is offering $INVOICE -$5K-$1K+$500 unrealistic????
Thanks in advance for any input.

    Is offering $INVOICE -$5K-$1K+$500 unrealistic????

Very. Taking $6k off MSRP is most likely below Invoice. I used carsontoyota.com and longotoyota.com for viewing actual inventories for the Sienna I wanted. I knew what a good price was going in thanks to carsdirect. In the end I got a XLE w/package #7 for about $1100 below invoice. Invoice is $31,900 on this configuration and MSRP is $36,661. So I ended up getting nearly $6k below MSRP. Final price about $30,800 plus tax/lic.

Oh, and don't worry about adding in that $500. The dealer still makes money via factory kickbacks.
  • pete_rocpete_roc Member Posts: 11
Yup. I agree its not realistic but no harm in asking.

Did you buy from carsdirect or from the dealer with the carsdirect quote in hand? I'm also considering buying a used '04 with 20k miles but there seems to be a huge spread between asking price and KBB trade-in value ($10k difference). So how can a buyer really arm himself with a solid offer, if there is a lot of gray area where the used car may have been valued at during trade-in? I have never bought used so this is new to me.

    Thanks

I want to buy a 2005 Sienna with package#1 The sticker on the one I want is $26K.
I want to buy from stock and pay cash. Is it fair to offer $21K out the door with everyhting included? The ad at the dealership says they have them starting at just below $21K for the CE which is listed around $24K in my area. Do I have more leverage dealing with cash? Please help confused soccer mom :confuse:
  • toyotakentoyotaken Member Posts: 897
The CE models are about $2,000 less expensive than the LE models and are price leaders so if it's an advertised price, it's pretty much at the bottom for that model in all liklihood. What is probably easier is to offer invoice on the vehicle that you're looking for. Whatever incentives are in place for the CE model will also be in place and avialable for the LE as well. In all liklihood, you're going to be about $2000 more than the CE advertised model.

As for paying cash vs. Financing, it doesn't make a HUGE difference either way, but they actually make some revenue when you finance but the focus from the Sales Manager is usually just moving a unit and worrying about cash/lease/finance later.

    Hope this helps.

This is the fomula you should use to caculate the real cost:
    Invoice + DestinationCharge - (holdback) - (Allincentives) = RealCost
Depend on what package you chose, just add the package cost on top of RealCost, then offer $300-$500 for Dealer.

    For your car:

    $21216 + $565 -($469) -($750) = $20562

    For package # 1
    $20562 + $648 = $21210

    You offer around $21210 + $300 = $21510 to $21210 + $500 = $21710

The $750 incentive from Toyota will expire on July/4. If you graduated from college within last 2 years, you get extra $400.

I just bought one LE with packge 6 about $24400 ( not include processing fee, tax, title..) after $750 + $400 rebates from Toyota. I bought from Bill Page VA Toyota Dealer, its service is outstading. It took me less than 1.5 hours to get it done.
I hope it help. All information above I get from buying a consummer report from Consummer report magazine

    The invoce for CE-7 is $21082, CE-8 is $21216

If you want to buy a Sienna with a package, say package 5 with floor mat ONLY, in stock at a Houston (Texas) Toyota dealer -- No way, you have to put a $500 deposit for a special order, because ALL these vans in the local dealer's lots have been loaded with a bunch of extra stuffs (such as a $799 etched window, a $599 running boards, a $776 extra mile option, etc.), which can easily sum up to $1000 - $4000 extra cost. These things are added by either the Gulf Coast Toyota Distributor or the local dealers, and they can't be removed if the van is already in stock. This is quite annoying to customers like me, and I believe it slows down the sells as well.

If I have to put a $500 deposit to order one, should I get a contract to ensure that I will get the negotiated price when the van is delivered? Can I get my money back when I find something wrong and don't buy this van later? Is it better to pay the deposit by credit card than by check?

Any Sienna buying experience in Houston area is highly appreciated. Thanks a lot.
  • toyotakentoyotaken Member Posts: 897
Anytime you place an order for a vehicle, I always recommend that you get a copy of a purchase agreement listing the specific equipment, colors, etc. on the one you ordered along with MSRP and purchase pricing. That way you have something to verify what you agreed to when placing the order.

I personally recommend credit cards for deposits as you have more control over the funds if there are any problems.

Where do you get the number of incentive($750)?
I checked with my local(Dallas) Dealer, the incentive is only$500 for Sienna XLE/LE.

    thanks.
  • tygartygar Member Posts: 3
Is the $1,000 incentive that's currently being offered special enough that I should rush out to buy a Sienna before 6/30, or is there likely to be another offer by August? It's like playing car-buying chicken: you don't want to miss a good offer, but you also don't want to rush such a big decision. Are the 2006s out in September?

I'm considering buying through CarsDirect: it seems like $22,032 for an 8-seat CE seems OK, although the Consumers Report Wholesale Price (where they say you should start negotiating) is $20,178. Does the CarsDirect price seem reasonable (I'm in Northern NJ) for a CE?
  • tdinh1tdinh1 Member Posts: 6
You are right. Gulf States and Cincinnati Toyota get only $500 rebate. I am in DC/VA/MD, so the rebate is $750.
  • toyotakentoyotaken Member Posts: 897
This is the first time I've seen any sort of substantial rebates on the Sienna. That being said, noone has a crystal ball to tell what they're going to do next month. Something to be said about the saying "one in the hand..."

    Ken
  • tdinh1tdinh1 Member Posts: 6
You can buy below CarsDirect prices. Try to buy from Big dealer ( more cars, easy to deal with). DARCARS ( VA) is very big dealer and the most easy to deal with. Buy at the end of the month will help you negotiation easly.
  • gobigblewgobigblew Member Posts: 2
I have a simple question about rebates. The current rebate ends in about a week or so. Can I order a Sienna or purchase a vehicle on its way to a dealership and still get the rebate even if the van won't show up until middle or end of July? I was told by a dealer that even though the van I want is on its way, the rebate won't apply if it shows up after the rebate expires.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Chris
  • toyotakentoyotaken Member Posts: 897
Rebates are offered by the manufacturer based upon the date that the vehicle is actually picked up for delivery. The dealer doesn't control what the incentives are, unfortunately. The programs run from month-to-month and you will be able to take advantage of whatever programs are available at the time you pick up your new Sienna. If that happens to be in July, the June rebates will no longer be in effect, so you will only have whatever programs Toyota has available in July. This could be either good or bad depending on which way the programs change, but at this time of the year, I would not expect they should drastically change for the worse.

I received an internet price quote of $21,825 for a 7-seat CE from the most highly-regarded dealer in our area: does this sound like a fair price (I'm in northern NJ)? The CarsDirect price was $21,898. The offer said that it was the cash buy price: am I correct in interpreting this to mean that a pre-approved check would count as cash, rather than the dealer expecting cash on the barrelhead? Also, when you receive an internet price quote, is there usually further negotiation, or is it take-it-or-leave-it?
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
It seems peculiar that the dealer would tie the price to the purchase method. I would interpret a "cash buy" as anything that does not involve the vehicle being financed. Wonder what their price would be if you financed the unit.

Having purchased several vehicles over the internet, it has been my experience that further negotiation is possible (and sometimes VERY productive) although some dealers will not do so.

Whether the quote you have received is "fair" depends on your local market - get quotes from competitors.

I have requested that my local dealership (Jim Barkley in Asheville, NC) locate a XLE-L NAV in Stratosphere Mica (Dk Blue). The salesman mentioned that there's one that's not "in port" yet that could be altered (i.e., stuff not added on that was slated to be) to fit our request. This brought up 2 questions:

    1) Where are the Siennas made? I thought they were made or at least assembled in the US.

    2) Since we have requested that this dealership have this one sent for us (rather than buy one off the lot that has what we want except for color), should I expect to pay more for that? It lists at $39,917, and I was thinking of offering $36,000 total (incl. tags, title, taxes etc.). Does this sound fair?

Thanks! If all goes well, I should be driving my new Sienna in a few weeks!
  • toyotakentoyotaken Member Posts: 897
All of the Sienna's are built in Indiana. Once they leave the factory, they go to central deistribution locations (refered to as Port) to be shipped to individual dealerships. At these central distribution points, they have "bolt on" options added. These include floor mats, running boards, etc. As for pricing, it veries depending on availability in different areas, but on a vehicle priced about what you're describing, the Invoice should be around $35,700 or so. So depending on availability, if you can get it for $36,000 it would be a steal, but would probably be a bit more than that.

    Hope this helps.

    Is this a good price;

    Congratulations on your success!
I am also looking to buy a Sienna LE #5 just like yours. Would you tell me the breakdown charges involved? Did you have to pay sales tax in Portland?
How to bargain for this price? Did you have a cash rebate?
  • 96corolla96corolla Member Posts: 94
Word on the street is that Incentives have been removed for July. Not good for those of us who procrastinated throughout the last couple of months. I can only hope they come back at some point, but I'm worried that this is Toyota's first step in helping GM be more competitive....i.e. the rumors about raising prices, etc.
  • trj93trj93 Member Posts: 8
I was afraid of that too. The car we requested won't be on the lot til this weekend at the earliest, and today the website for the SE Toyota dealers shows the 7/5 expiration date. I was really hoping for that 1.9 APR!
  • toyotakentoyotaken Member Posts: 897
I don't know how it is in the SE region, but in the NY region, we were holding our breath as well. Luckily, Toyota decided to continue the $1000 rebate and 3.9% financing for the month of July. I too had quite a few Sienna orders that are coming in this month and was worried. Too bad they didn't do the same on the Corolla's and Matrix's, although with only 3 of each on the lot, it's sort of a moot point.

I will soon be test driving the Sienna and Odyssey and making a decision as to which van my wife and I prefer.

Can anyone provide information regarding price paid/buying experience for Toyota dealerships in the DENVER, CO area (including all of Colorado)? I am considering an LE7 with package #5 or #6, or the XLE with package #3. Once we decide, I plan to solicit offers from internet managers by email. I would buy a vehicle from a smaller dealership outside the front range area if they compete for my business.

    Thanks for the assistance.

Well, our Sienna arrived today, finally, and the incentives ($1000 or 1.9APR/36 mo) is still available for us. :-) We will probably take the cash back because it works out to be a little more than the interest we would save.

Now, here's what they're offering for a Sienna XLE Limited, with pkg #2 (Navi, DVD, etc.): It lists for $39,922. Their "best price" is $36,498; $35,498 after rebate. They'll buy our 98 grand caravan for $2500 (not great, but better than Carmax offered me), giving me a Drive-out price (after taxes and tags) of $34,087.

Should I counter-offer, or take it and run? It's as good a price for that car as I would expect, but I've never bought a car that I didn't have to painfully negotiate for. It would be a relief to take the offer they've made, but I wouldn't want to leave $500+ with them that I didn't have to, ya know?

    Thanks, Tracey

Tracey, we live in Asheville and have been shopping the same dealer as well as dealers in Charlotte, etc. They run a low-overhead operation but lots of guys sitting around . I think you may be able to shave another $400 off, but maybe not. Let us know how it turns out.

For anyone living near Memphis... Was pricing Camrys today, and saw that Chuck Hutton Toyota is pricing their LE/XLE Siennas at $4,500 off MSRP every one in stock... seems a good deal. They had several white, med. blue, red and gold... about 10 of 'em on the lot.

They'd advertised $3,000 off MSRP any in-stock Camry, but with very little negotiation got it down about $3,500 so one may be able to do better than the $4,500. (Ultimately, we went w/an Accord so it became moot) The dealer was very up front, and decidedly low-pressure (I've bought 5 cars in last 24 mos. and avoid the pushy places)

I honestly regret having bought my '05 Ody earlier this year for just $2K off MSRP... while it and the Sienna seem to be near equals, little creature features in the Sienna like auto-on headlights, compass, etc., are nice touches.

    Happy hunting!

    Cheers, MG

Did anyone from the Atlanta area buy a Sienna LE with Pkg #5; share experiences, price paid, dealer ship etc.??

Bought a XLE AWD w/ package 9 and the Toyotaguard package , $35895 sticker, for $31450. I think I could have done a little better if I had paid closer attention and noticed that the vehicle had been assembled in February and the safety inspection sticker expired 2/06..this one had been on the lot for at least 4 months.
FWIW for those still shopping, I happened to see the dealer holdback on this vehicle on the Finance Manager's computer screen...$921.

    Mark
  • coupedncalcoupedncal Member Posts: 252
If holdback was $921 and we know from other sources that Toyota factory holdback to dealers is 3% then their true invoice cost is ($921/0.03) = $30,700.

Does anyone disagree with these numbers ?
  • vansearch1vansearch1 Member Posts: 4
Does the $21,300 include taxes too?
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
I could well be wrong but I'm not sure your invoice calculation is correct because there is still an unknown factor here - Toyota advertising fees which vary by locale.
  • newvanbuyernewvanbuyer Member Posts: 15
In Northern California, I just paid $30,939 for an XLE with Option 6, Floor Mats, and the Auto Dimming Mirror. That was the "out the door" price, and included destination and Toyota's TDA (regional advertising costs). We felt we got a pretty good deal.

Sure - Dublin Toyota in Dublin. I should mention that we took the 3.9% financing, not the $750 cash back, so technically I guess we could have gotten $750 lower. We got that price by using the internet to get quotes, and then taking the emailed quotes into our local dealer (we live in Dublin). After seeing what price they would give us, we said, "Well, Walnut Creek Toyota emailed us this quote." The sales guy didn't look too happy, but he matched it. In the East Bay, apparently Walnut Creek Toyota has a reputation for the best prices, because they are the "volume" dealer around here, but I've heard word-of-mouth that they aren't always the easiest dealer to buy from. I don't think they are unpleasant, just really busy and it will take forever. I've heard good things about the people at Concord Toyota. We had a pleasant experience in Dublin, though the wait to go from the Sales Dept. to the Finance Dept. took FOREVER. They felt badly about it, however, and gave us a coupon for a free oil change and a second free tank of gas. Nice of them, I thought.

    Where in California are you?

went and loooked at an xle yesterday, not sure what package, but it was loaded except for nav and AWD. was looking to lease and was quoted 5K down, 66mo. lease at $419 per month, on another LE I was interested in. I told them no way. We bailed.
  • newvanbuyernewvanbuyer Member Posts: 15
I'm really not sure if that's a good price or not. We ONLY priced the XLE package 6, so I don't know the invoice price of the LE or the option package #5. Go to some of the online services (Edmonds.com, Carybuyingtips.com, autobytell) and request a quote. You put in the exact car model/options you are looking for, and dealerships email you a quote. You are under no obligation to buy at their price. We then took the lowest quote in to our local dealership. We waited for them to give us their lowest price to see if it was lower than the lowest online quote we got. When it wasn't, we showed them the email and they matched it.

    Good luck.
