Just had the shift interlock override recall done, the lever under the console/shift lever that allows you to unlock the shifter manually, has been removed. Also you get an update to the owners manual saying you have the ability to start in 2cnd gear for better bite on slippery surfaces, I wonder if this was always the case and we didn't know or this a later PCM reprogram, but it works!!

I had a 95 and 98 Exploder. Now have an '02 Envoy. No comparison. Only thing I can think of that I probably liked better in the Exploders were the seats.

GM is light years ahead of Ford. Even the new ones are not impressive.

However, it does seem like there is a lot more to go wrong with GM.

Coming up on 15K and still no problems. Great truck and still feels like new.
  • tblazedtblazed Member Posts: 945
Mine's always done that. You put it in 2 it starts off in 2nd. Looking at my manual the shift lock release instructions are on one of the same pages as the shift position functions and details. Maybe they replace the page to delete the shift lock release part and add more info about it starting in 2nd?

So I guess they don't give you a new way to get it out of park if the power fails?

I have a 02 Envoy SLT, build date Oct.01. recenty I told the dealer there is a intermitent noise coming from the front end, sounding like bushing noise when I brake. It also did it while turning once that I could here. I told them it was not a braking noise, def. bushings. They proceded to machine the rotors without my permission. 2 days later the noise is back again. Reported angrily to the dealer not the brakes. Now I am going to have them check to see if they can be machined agained, otherwise they will be replacing them at their expense. Any ideas anybody, and does anyone know the web site to find out TSB's I cannot seen to find it anymore. Much appreciated.......Elliot

I purchased my truck from Chevy of Lowell. This is the 2nd vehicle I have purchased from this dealer. Very easy to deal with. They have an excellent body shop (wife's minivan was hit in a parking lot). I've used the service dept for some warranty work on the minivan & oil changes with no problems.

    Eric,
I got mine at Lannan Chevrolet of Woburn, which is owned by the same people as Chevy of Lowell.

    BigTos1,
Thanks for the info on the rebate. What i really need to know is when the Rebate began. Did it actually start on Memorial Day? If it did then I do not qualify. If they hyped it up a week or so before Memorial Day, then I may have another $500 coming to me and if I am entitled to it, I will do my best to try and get it. If anyone has any info on this, please psot back.

    Thanks.

After I saw an Envoy on the lot with the Danali Grill I asked my dealer to include it on mine. He sent it out to a local customizer who installs them. My dealer claimed his cost was $260.00 which is what I paid. It's the same grill that comes on the Danali and I think it looks great. The only problem is that because of the "honeycomb" holes, it is tough to clean.
  • kpp14kpp14 Member Posts: 62
When I picked up (April 2002) my Envoy SLT the dealer had four LE,s with a Denali package. It was the grill, badging and upgrade rims. I recently checked a custom truck and van shop and a cheap clip on "lay over" was $100.00. Remove and replace with a heavier gage was $230.00...and thats in funny money!...Speaking of which I paid $49,000 for the truck and the rate back then was about 1.6. Its easier to list what I did not get and that would be the Bose (I could kick myself), air shocks and TV. I was told you can,t have the sunroof and TV. On another note the guy with the new Bravada in the Blue Ridge Mountains (where is that?)had a really good story to share. Who is doing something that pushes the envelope this weekend?? Lets here about it.

Three or four times over the last month, I have been locked out from the drivers door of my TB.
Happens with engine running or off, with transmission in park or in gear. (no lectures please about getting out of truck while in gear with brake engaged)Only the drivers door locks, luckily, not all.
At first I assumed I must accidently bump the manual lock opening the door, but now I doubt that.
    Anyone else have this happen???
I posted a while ago that I also experience occassionally a failure of the rear window or gate to unlock with truck engaged in park. Had one or two confirms from others who had this happen, but not many. Wonder if the two are in anyway related.
  • tblazedtblazed Member Posts: 945
Don't worry about it they will check for and do any recalls next time you take it in for something else.

twinrotts now you have me worried. I often stop and grab a newspaper, get out (paper box about about 5 ft away from the curb) and leave it with the engine running, but I do put it in Park. Guess I'd better not let the door latch. I have my locks programmed to just unlock the drivers door when I put it in Park so if the door locks itself, I'm stuck! It has never happened though in almost 18 months. Did you ever get the liftgate module replaced? Seems like there was an issue with that. The liftgate module receives the signal from the keyless entry remote and sends data down the serial bus to the BCM and to all the door modules. Or have you had the latest BCM Operating software update? It's all an integrated system.

How about GM putting an Isuzu -made Diesel in the triplets? Isuzu has an inline-6 that puts out 177 hp and 425 lb.ft of torque. Man what a stump-puller that would be! If VW can sell a Diesel clean enough to meet EPA standards and sell in the US why not GM?

Thanks 01-hoe. I found the set screw on the side. It looks like a torx - I'll tighten it when I get home.
  • gam2gam2 Member Posts: 316
My 2002 Bravada locked me out once while the engine was running. I was at home so I could get the other key to open it.

It would be nice if GM applied some of the NVH improvements on the Buick Rainer to the other Triplets. Hell, mine listed for $38,000 and is no quieter than my wifes $14,000, '99 Cavalier. It's the biggest gripe I have with my Envoy. It was also bad in my Bravada.

Funny, that's what the guy at the AAMCO transmission shop calls them too. He also told me, "If you really want to spend a lot of time in transmission shops reading old magazines, buy an Exploder".

    Hi Guys,

I am always looking for that "extra" out of my '02 Envoy SLE. My first improvement has been the Borla Dual Exhaust. Now I am considering intakes. Have to breath better on both ends. CGS, Volant, Airaid, K&N, and Air Max all make intakes. Some keep the resonator some lose it. Some have open elements with "heat shields" some have no air box/heat shields. Some have CARB approval some don't. Right now I am considering the Airaid Intake along with the throttle body spacer. Seems like the most HP, and torque for the money. And it keeps the resonator and is CARB approved. Anyone have any input on any of these intakes?
I had the K&N FIPK on my '96 Jimmy and loved it, but I don't think I want all the "noise" that comes along with loosing the resonator.
    Thanks.

I'm wondering if the dealer is mandated to fix items of safety recalls (for liability purposes, etc.) even if the owner doesn't mention it or want it done. Of course, they couldn't make you do it that particular day you were there for an oil change, etc., so you could always tell them you can't leave the car then. And I wonder what would happen if the carowner wants the dash instrument panel safety recall performed, but not the shift override (I don't have any kids and not sure I want the override removed.) I'm curious if the dealer would say that either by law or for liability purposes they are required to do both. Of course, if they document the carowner's refusal, then it seems the carowner would assume liability if anything untoward were to happen in the future. Furthermore, could this affect your warranties if you didn't get it done? Just pondering all the ramifications. Any dealers or ex-dealers on this board?
  • twinrottstwinrotts Member Posts: 161
tblazed - Never has the BCM updated. I'm only current with the PCM and that as many have said was a great improvement.
Do you know the details of the BCM updates???

Seems like my intermittent issue with the rear gate and window not unlocking with truck in park or with key fob might be related to the occasional lockout I'm now getting on the drivers door.
My DIC is programmed to unlock all with truck in park and so far at least I've been able to open one of the other passenger doors to gain entry.

It kind of is giving me a complex though like the truck is glad to see me leave and doesn't want me back.
Just like a teenage offspring... Nurture them from the time they're new born and out of the blue, they turn on you

Now that the "General" has repurchased the '02 Bravada, we're looking for a replacement truck, probably a Yukon. Even with the bad Bravada experience, I plan to stick with GM since they "ultimately did the right thing."

I read in USA today about two weeks ago that new incentives were to come out in June and one of those was that GM employees could get "coupons" to share with family and friends that would effectively allow the holder to purchase a GM vehicle near employee cost. Does anyone know any details about this? What is employee cost -- a percentage of invoice or some other formula? Can it be coupled with the $3000 rebate as well? I have a contact who is a GM employee who I'll probably hit up for one of these coupons if it is to my advantage in buying new Yukon. I'm trying to find out if I should buy new or find a low mileage Yukon on the previously owned market with the proceeds from the Bravada. Can anyone provide some details on this program?

    Thanks!

I have this happen to me every so often. I did examine the driver's door and found that I was, in fact, slightly brushing the manual door lock toggle (not the switch) when I got out of the car. It does seem very sensitive, but that is what was happening as I could always move it a little back to the full unlock position. Perhaps it has to do with how one opens the door? At any rate, that's what did and does happen to me. No problems with any other locks at all.

The dealer near me has a Demo Envoy with 5000 miles on it. Its MSRP is 39500. About what should I pay for this vehicle? I'm guessing invoice should be around 35500.

    Theres the 3000 rebate.
I have 1500 in GM Card free money.

If I had to guess, I would estimate about 30K after all rebates and GM Card discounts. Currently, the dealer is telling me 32K.

    What do you guys think?

For any one looking for some real power Whipple make a SC for the triplets and I ran some rough estimates with a 3 core intercooler at 12# boost and 92 octane you could get about 2000 hooves or 500 ponies. Now thats what I call fun... 4 wheel burnouts anyone? Does anyone know where to get whipple cheap on thier site its a bit pricey? http://proficientperformance.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PR- OD&Product_Code=WIP-GMTE42-SIP&Store_Code=PP

In the recent past, in my area, you could purchase a new loaded Triplet for $7500 - $8000 off MSRP (including rebates). Your estimate of 30K (with $1500 GM Card) sounds like the absolute maximum you should consider paying.

Well I don't think GM powertrain(UAW) would appreciate a foreign engine in a truck! This country is losing jobs as it is , we don't need thousands more laid off. BAD IDEA, GM powertrain is one of the strongest divisions, they can do anything!

"Do you know the details of the BCM updates???"

No, other than it has been updated 3 times since my TB was built and I printed out the initial VCI page back in Feb '02. So it might be worth checking on since you have a body and accessory system control problem. Something must be going on to have 3 part numbers that supercede the original.

No Isuzu Diesel in GM products? Nothing new there. I don't think GM Powertaiin would be too concerned since DMAX Ltd. is in Moraine, Ohio.

"The Duramax engine family is the result of a joint venture (DMAX Ltd.) between GM and Isuzu Motors. GM's relationship with Isuzu began in 1971 and was strengthened in 1997 when GM announced that Isuzu would develop Diesel engines for GM. Because of Isuzu's expertise in commercial vehicles and Diesel engines, the company plays an important role in GM's global strategy. Isuzu is a world leader in Diesel engine design and development, and has produced more than 60 million Diesel engines in the past six decades."

Using an Isuzu designed I-6 Diesel would certainly save GM some catch-up time in technology putting a Diesel in a Trailblazer.

If you look at the actual Whipple web site they offer a black finish super charger setup that is $1700.00 cheaper than the link posted to the Proficient performance site.
  • tblazedtblazed Member Posts: 945
I would be very uneasy to say the least putting my foot in one of these 6's with an aftermarket supercharger. Kiss your warranty good bye too. If GM did build one factory supercharged they would need to beef up the innards and the rest of the drivetrain to compensate for any big power and torque gains.

Some posts suggest paying $30K for a very well equipped demo as about right. I think that would be a real bargain. Also, if you can get $7-8000 off the sticker now the economy must be worse shape than I thought.
Here is what I paid in May '02:
    Envoy XL SLT
    Running Boards
    Load Leveling Suspension
    Bose
    Sticker: 38,830
    GMS Price: 35,890
    Rebates: 2,310
    Price: 33,580

Purchased at time of sale & not included in above:
    Major Guard: 1,850
    Protector "A": 700
    Remote Start: 499

Yeah, the Wipple looks cool and with a 45% increase that would be just about 400 horses and 400 ft /lbs of tourque. But I have done some math and with my Borla Dual Exhaust, and Air Intake and Spacer and some computer programming when it comes out, I should be around 325hp and 370 ft/lbs for about $1200. So, that works out to about $22 per extra Horse, where as the Supercharger would be about $33 per horse. Of course you get 75 more horsepower and 30 more ft lbs with the Wipple, but I will play it cheap and save the warranty. Although, if money wasn't an object, I would have the Wipple on the Way.

I'm almost embarassed to admit this, but I discovered today that I have a light in the engine compartment attached right of center under the hood. First time I noticed this because it has never lit.
I twisted and jiggled it a bit and it illuminated.
I did the curious 5 yr old experimment "close the refrig door slowly to see if the light stays on" and indeed it turned off with the hood about 4" from full down.
I lifted the hood again and no light. I jiggled again and it lit. Lowered again and out it went.
Lifted the hood and no light.
My guess is a bad connection inside the light housing as it is a direct wired fixture with no disconnect visible.
Ok, so who else with an 02 did not know they have a light???

Crosley Where did you see a black for $1700 I only found this link. And it states 4195 for black. NEVER MIND JUST RE READ YOUR POST... MISSED $1700 LESS. Also " Will the factory warranty be void?

It is illegal for a Dealership to void your warranty simply because you have modifications to your vehicle. It is the Dealerships responsibility to prove that any modification was the reason for a failure. With that said, some Dealerships are more performance orientated and willing to work with customers. It would be our suggestion to consult with your local Dealership regarding their warranty specifics."
They go on to say " http://www.whipplesuperchargers.com/faq.asp?faqID=21#21 " reguarding engine life... I know I saw a couple of dealers on the posts any input appreciated. Anyone have the K&N air intake installed and what was the result? also any other HP mod suggestions appreciated.

Anyone who thinks GM would warranty a drivetrain problem after they have installed a supercharger needs to rethink their position. This vehicle was not designed for 400 h.p.! The same reasoning says I could turbo it, bump the boost to 20 psi, and make GM pay for repairs. This goes way beyond simple intake and exhaust mods. Any doubt? Call GM and see what they say. Whipple only offers a 1 year warranty.

As to intake, exhaust, and computer mods being worth 50 h.p., I really doubt it. 20-25 maybe, and then only at high rpms. That's about what those mods were worth on a late model Camaro test I saw recently.

If you put a supercharger on a triplet, you are going to have transmission problems at some point in the near future. I promise you that.

There are many things that can be done to beef up the 4L60-E, though. While you're wasting all that money on a supercharger, what's another grand?

Why not get a nitrous oxide kit instead? 1/10th the price! (Of course you still need the trany mods) Yeah it's not on all the time, but it doesn't need to be. You're only going to need this stuff for an occasional blast down the entrance ramp.

The biggest problem in making one of these things go fast is that you're creating a deathtrap. I'd want some seriously better handling to go with that performance.
  • tblazedtblazed Member Posts: 945
kmigliaccio855 states "It is illegal for a Dealership to void your warranty simply because you have modifications to your vehicle". The Warranty Information book that's with my Owners manual clearly states that "Damage caused by alteration or modification" is "Not Covered" under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. The key word here is DAMAGE. If you install a supercharger and then blow up the engine or transmission, good luck trying to convince GM the failure was not caused by the "alteration or modification". They can't void your warranty (*Magnusson Moss) for using a Fram oil filter instead of an ACDelco, or using Pennzoil instead of Mr. Goodwrench oil, but modifications and alterations to the engine and powertrain control system are just the thing to get your warranty voided.

*... prohibits a warrantor from requiring use of purchased parts from the same source as the original equipment or some other specified source . It allows use of aftermarket purchased parts from other sources."

They are talking about maintenance parts and materials like oil, filters, antifreeze etc., not alteration or modification parts that boost power to the breaking point.

Try opening the hood more than just enough to get the prop rod under it. On mine I can open the hood just to the point that I can get the prop rod under it and in the hole without the light coming on, but raise it another inch and the light comes on. There's a gravity switch inside the light [non-permissible content removed]'y.

You 2003 owners don't have to worry about the underhood light. GM deleted it for you.

    Chevtrail2002 -

I too had the water leak under the dash on the passenger side. I never would have found it, except for the fact that I have winter mats that screw down into the factory carpet. When I removed them, water came bubbling up. The rubber backing on the factory carpet did a great job at keeping the water hidden. My dealer found that a seam in the firewall was not welded properly. My Envoy XL SLT has a build date of 02/02. They said that there was about a 3 inch section of the seam that was missed by the welding machine. Needless to say, since it came form the factory that way, the water had been getting into the cabin for 9 months by the time I found it. They completely replaced all of the carpet in the truck - had to take all three rows of seats and the center console out to do it. The dealer did a great job, I was worried that you would be able to tell that the whole truck was in pieces. Everything still fits as well as it did when it came from the factory. I had the repair done about 6-8 weeks ago. I was washing the truck this weekend, and I took some trim molding off, so I could look under the carpet. Everything is dry, so the repair must have worked. We have had so much rain this spring, I would have expected to see water in there if the repair failed. Based on how mildewed my carpet was, its a miracle I didn't smell it. Insist on carpet replacement, if it is as mildewed as mine, they'll never get it completely clean.

"There's a gravity switch inside the light [non-permissible content removed]'y."

Gravity really comes into play when there is an extra 30 lbs of snow and ice on the hood! The hood insulation can prevent the ice from melting off rapidly from engine heat and in some conditions not at all. For the truck that has everything I think some $20 dollar springs would be a good idea here.

JR45 said: Anybody put a Delphi XM in their triplet? If so, where did you mount it and what mount did you use? I'm on an accessorizing kick and want to add satellite radio. Since my Bravada has the Bose head unit, it looks like there's no way to connect directly and I will have an fm modulator.

I say: I put a Delphi unit in with FM modulator. It was installed where I bought it - Circuit City. I chose a mount that is an angled, cast metal piece (I think they charged me $20 or so for the bracket). It is installed by removing the fake wood trim on the center console and screwing it into one of the screw holes that mounts the radio. When the wood is popped back on, the angled bracket comes out along the edge of the fake wood. The cradle then attaches to the bracket. It looks great. The only slight complaint I have is that the unit sits a little low as the technician said that was where the screw holes were located so I had no choice. I don't have a digital camera but will take a picture and next time I get film developed I will post it for you. It's a very good looking installation.

tblazed got my hopes up with his suggestion to lift the hood higher than the prop rod required. I took it to the limit of the hinge with no luck I lifted it fast, I lifted it slow, still not light. I followed those arobics with a few attempts at the thump trick. Still no light.

I guess next time I'm in for the oil, I'll get it looked at.
Hey maybe they won't fix it in 3 tries, and I can do the lemon law thing!!!! What a strategy to move into the 8 cylinder
