For those of you buying 06 Odysseys... Can anyone share finance info ? I wonder what Honda Finance is offering (interest rate/money factor and residual on the 06's). Looking to buy an 06 EXL-ESNAV
Thanks for the tip on Elk Grove. We went to the dealer in Roseville tonight prepared to purchase one given a reasonable deal (even $1K or so above invoice, silly me...), but was so turned off by the offensive sales techniques we just left.
We test drove one and then went inside to buy one. That's when the salesman soured the whole deal with his technique and attitude... "Do you have any silver '05 EX-L's in stock, no NAV, no DVD?" "Yes, we have one that will arrive, probably next week." "What is the price for that one?" "I need both of your drivers licenses..." "Why do you need our licenses to tell us what the price is?" "_They_ need to know that you are serious... you're talking about buying a $40,000 car. You have to fill out this paper work to show them that you are serious... Okay, I'll just need one of your driver licenses." "You don't need a drivers license to tell me what the price is." "Well, the price is whatever is on the sticker... $34,494. That is MSRP + $2,999 dealer charge."
There were only two other potential customers there and so most of the sales staff were standing around talking to each other---maybe they just don't get much practice. I think I know why... I'll go elsewhere.
I was at Elk Grove yesterday and had a not so good experience. The first salesman was good, but his boss was a complete jerk. Many of the same things you said happened in Roseville, also happened in Elk Grove. We wanted a slate green EXL and they said "those are hard to get, but let me check." We ended up negociating for a silver EXL with DVD and said we want close to invoice. The salesmens assured us that we were out of luck and came back with a quote of 31,300. Invoice at Elk Grove, I don't see it with the sales people we dealt with. Is it worth going to Roseville, because we were thinking of going there today. A side note; University Honda in Davis has a few Tan EXL's with DVD in stock and I got a phone quote of 29998.
We are in the process of purchasing '06 Odyssey Touring RES & NAV at $611 above dealer's invoice. With 15K downpayment, we got 4.6% financing through Honda Finance for 60 months. Dealer is in Southgate, MI. We inquired with other dealers but they can only give us 4.85% finance.
hpootel, sorry to hear that about AutoWest Honda in Roseville. When I sent the email blasts, AutoWest didn't reply, so I never followed up with them. If you haven't done so, I would suggest emailing or calling the Internet sales departments at the Honda dealerships and ask for their Internet pricing. When you do go to the dealership, ask to see the Internet or Fleet sales manager.
I'm not here to pimp Elk Grove Honda, but as a point of reference, they offered $400 over invoice for an EX-L. This was around 7/24 when we got the quotes. But, we chose the EX because my wife said the $2k difference could go towards the furnishings for our baby.
Oh, BTW, you may want to checkout the Costco group buying program. The local participating Honda dealership is Carmichael Honda. Just give them a call and ask for the Costco program and pricing. They quoted my $1500 under MSRP for the EX, but I don't know about the EX-L.
mjwood, sorry to hear about the bad experience at Elk Grove. When I went in, I asked the salesman right away to see the Internet or Fleet sales manager. But, I guess there's no 1 perfect dealership. The Univeristy Honda quote seems reasonable as it's $700 over invoice. Best of luck!
I ended up going to Garden State Honda in Clifton, NJ to purchase my 2005 Honda Odyssey EX-L, Ocean Mist color. We wanted the Back-Up Sensors added, so I ended up paying $28,400 (including destination & back-up sensors), plus tax, registration & documentation fee. This price is about the same or maybe $100 less than what I would have paid at Route 22 Honda. Overall a pretty good buying experience and will pick up the minivan on Thursday.
Thanks for all the helpful info on this board. Thought I'd share my recent experience. Dealers in the Seattle area apparently still have people lining up to pay MSRP and waiting for vans to arrive. That's been making it tough to find anyone to come down significantly from MSRP. I did the e-mail thing to about a dozen dealers, and had offers for MSRP to as low as $1,100 off MSRP. After several weeks, I was strongly considering Discovery Honda in Moses Lake, where other posters have indicated they've gotten a van for $750 or so over invoice. I decided to give a number of local dealers another chance, and it turns out that Burien Honda had a EXL in our color choice (Slate Green/Olive) on the lot. It had just come in, and after a bit of negotiating on the phone with the internet sales manager, he was willing to sell it for $29,500. I told him $29,300 was my ceiling. I called back the next day and took it for $29,400 + TTL (no doc fee). (roughly $1,600 off MSRP.) For the Seattle area, I think I did pretty good. I just don't have the time to make a trip to Moses Lake (3+ hours each way). The buying experience at Burien Honda was fabulous. In and out in about 1/2 hour. The van was all cleaned up and waiting for us. Very professional. No hidden fees or surprises.
Congrats on the purchase. Can you please let me know how much the backup sensor costs? How much did you pay for the documentation fee?
I went to a Honda place today and didn't have good experience with them at all. They drew us into the place with a very low price over the phone and then after we thought we made a deal out come all kinds of fees, including etching fee, on-line registration fee, and high documentation fee. They also try to overcharge for the registration.
Hello, would you mind sharing your dealership info for Southern MN who is ordering for $2k off 2006 MSRP. We are MSP area looking for 2005 EXL-Res, but at that price ordering may be better for this area. THanks!
The back-up sensors on the Honda website retail for $598 (not including installation), and one dealership quoted me a total of $751 installed. However, the dealer I bought from quoted me a price of $512(!). Subtracting that and the destination fee from the price I paid ($28,400) leaves me with paying about $27,373 for the EX-L, or about $100 - $300 under invoice depending on what value you put on the back-up sensors.
They also pushed an etching fee which I rejected - there is a 15% discount on comprehensive coverage with the window etching, but a security system with engine immobilizer (standard on the EX) also gets you the same discount - hence no benefit. I was not happy with the $189 documentation fee, but countered that by having $100 knocked off the base price. I believe the actual registration fee for a straight purchase should be $319 and they originally tried to charge $350. I got them to knock it down to $336 and will try and recover the additional $17.
This week, I bought my EX-L RES NAV $100 bellow invoice - $31,263.64 (includes destination). Add 6% tax + $1.25 Tire tax. No documentation or dealer fee. Vehicle included all season weather mat and mud guards (or flaps, whatever you call them). OTD price: $33,140.70. Good price, right? Loving my van.
How much value would you estimate the new 5/60 powertrain warranty on the 2006 Odyssey (all '06 Hondas for that matter) adds to the vehicle? Trying to consider all factors in determining wheter to buy a discounted '05 versus a not so discounted '06.
EX-L (and other trims as well) comes with an oversized doughnut This is kept in the rear left on the side behind the the third passenger seats. The space will not allow to store a full size spare. You may have to store it elsewhere (for example, on top, or in the trunk) if you can manage to get a full size spare.
Sure, MotorInn Honda in Albert Lea. I blindly e-mailed three Honda dealers and they sent me an e-mail with their best price. Process has been simple to this point. email if you would like further details.
I'm curious. Many people are reporting getting a hold of Odyssey's at or close to invoice. I'm wondering how this is possible. Do the dealers have special deals with Honda that they are not revealing to the pubic? Otherwise how does this make sense??
The selling price for a car mostly depends on 'the basic rule' - supply and demand. Honda does not make lots and of lots cars (Odysseys in this case) that would sit on the dealers lot for months and months. Dealers would get new shipment only if they sell some number of cars (whichever that may be) -- in other words -- dealers are given a specific number of cars to start with (for a model year), and then would get new shipment once they sell certain number of cars.
Invoice is the price that dealers pay to manufacturers for a car - so you have a very legitimate question - how can dealers sell the car at the price they paid? Because they are not making any profits, right? However, dealers also get other incentives from the manufactures - for example, 'hold-back', advertisement fee, etc. etc. etc. And, these are no small numbers, for example (I think) for an 05 Odyssey, the hold back is around $500 (per van), and there are certain percentage (probably 1% or 2%, I am not sure, and can also change) for the ad fee. The dealers themselves have a lot of way to save or make money when they sell a car - some obvious ones are - financing (through them), trade-ins, floor planning, etc. etc. etc. I know these now (had no idea before) when I started researching on the internet about car buying a couple of months ago when I decided to get a van, and also talked to some of the local dealers. But someone who is in the car business (as I am certainly not) can correct me if I am wrong or can provide more details.
So, a dealer selling a car at invoice will still make money (may be not as much as if they were selling it a MSRP). How do you think some other car makers are making money (and staying in business) with thousands of dollars in rebates, incentives, employee pricing, etc.? Certainly, there are some profits there that we as a buyer do not see or know about. On the other extreme, there are (or were) cars that are selling (or sold) way more than MSRP - just because they are in so short supply, but with a very high demand.
Of course, in my area the 05 Odysseys were selling at least $1K above invoice, but as an informed buyer, I was able to talk to different dealers and negotiate a price that is well bellow invoice. (My internet quote was $800 over invoice, and it came down to $200 over invoice, then to bellow invoice). am not sure if I could do it late in 2004 or early 2005, versus now as the car-model-year is coming to an end. Good luck to you.
Thanks for the detailed reply. I suppose there is no law saying that the exact cost breakdown and pricing relationship from manufacturer to dealers need be disclosed to the public. It would be nice of-course to know how much it actually costs Honda to build a vehicle versus sales price (invoice) to a given dealer.
I bought my 05 Odyssey back in December of 2004 EX with cloth for $26750 with trade-in. At the time the MSRP was $28510 and Edmunds TMV price was right at the MSRP. I got $500 over TMV for my trade-in. For this reason I was fairly satisfied with the purchase at the time. I am not sure if my area (Dallas Fort-Worth) is a "tougher" area due to high demand for the Odyssey. Certainly now seeing that people are getting vans at invoice opened my eyes a bit.....
I looking for a 05 EX-L with dvd. Anyone have any information on any new york (long island) dealers? I figure paying about $500-600 above dealers cost.
Hi I just called Indy today they said that they will never sell under invoice. I get only $32,610. I start doing research in this reform. I hope that I am not talking to DEALERS here .. please send me the contact person and I will buy right now..
I bought my '05 EX from Norm Reeves Honda at Cerritos, CA. They had a bunch of EX but very few LX. They have a pretty big Internet Sales department. I was able to get the best price ($100 under invoice) considering most other dealers weren't willing to come down from MSRP. The whole buying experience was good.
I just purchase 2005 Honda Odyssey EX-L Slate Green Metallic with Olive Leather from Bay Ridge Honda, Brooklyn NYC including destination for $28,050.(Which was actually $100 over invoice) I have been using Edmunds as a reference guide and did e-mailing to dealers for the best price. Various dealerships came back with their pricing and availability. This pricing was based through the Costco Auto Program which quoted me the price at $500 over invoice at this dealership. It was the easiest car deal I've ever made. Finished the deal in less than an hour (including paperwork), no haggling, no going back and forth with the salesperson and the manager. Can't wait to get into my new mini-van! Much thanks to Edmunds.com and the user postings!
Could someone tell the best way to send a massive quote request to a bunch of dealers? Edmunds only listed 2 out of a dozen dealer when I click the "quick quote" link.
From what he told me for EX-L there was 2 - Sage Brush Pearl, 1 - Taffeta White & Desert Rock Metallic. This is where I went to check their new inventory http://www.bayridgehonda.com Good luck!
This is what I paid -
EX-L - 28,050.00 NYC Tax - 2,349.19 Waste tire fee - 12.50 Inspection fee - 10.00 Plate transfer - 30.00 Cert. of title fee - 45.00 ------------------- 30,496.69
I bought a Touring with R&N at a Pohanka Honda in Marlow Heights in MD, the experience was excellent. Paid less the $37k for it. Last year, we bought a 2004 Odyssey with R&N from them also but we had to sell it for the 05. With the 05 Odyssey, the Navigation system seems to be off in the miles. With the 04, the measurement was precise. I intend to call honda for this problem. But in any case the ride is good.
We were quoted $29.6 for EX-L w/DVD plus tax and title for a 2006. This brings the bottom line to about $31.8. This is from a dealer in Eastern Ohio, though we live in Pittsburgh, PA.
How does this price seem? What is invoice for 2006 w/DVD?
Also what sort of APR should I expect if I finance through Honda for 60 months?
Picked up EX-L R & N last Wednesday. Total OTD price was 34305.94. We love the vehicle and the drive. My 2 yr old refuses to board my 1999 Honda Accord now.
GOT AN OTD FOR A 2005 TOURING IN N. CALIFORNIA FOR $41,800 CASH DEAL AND WAS TOLD NO DIFFERENCE IN THE 05 & 06, BUT HONDA'S WEB SITE SAID THE NEW 06'S ARE OUT AS OF 8/11/06 AND WITH A MUCH BETTER WARRENTE 5 YEARS AND 60,000 MILES, LAST YEAR 05'S IS ONLY 36 MONTHS AND 36,000 MILES....... NOW LOOKING FOR A PRICE ON THE 06
I had chance to buy 2005 TOURING R/N & 2000mi for $32,250 on ebay. That car was used 2,000 mi and event car which used by automobile manufacturers. also This vehicle is still covered under the manufacturer's new car warranty.
I typed the wrong price it was actually $25,369 (and then plus the tax/motor vehicle). Good luck in your search - I know they had some EXL's , but I am not sure if they were discounted like the EX's.
Wow, that's a real good deal. Congrats! I believe that's the best deal I have heard of so far. When I called them, I spoke to a salesmen that was very nice. He was willing to let me have the EXL for $27,500, but found out that the last one they had was just sold. They won't have any more 2005 EXL coming in. They only had some tourings left.
I asked them to come down on the doc fees (I think it was $149 to start) and then he said they wouldn't even charge us! The only add on to $25,369. was NJ sales tax and the cost to transfer our plates. We even got the tire locks for free because another dealer had put them on and Joyce Honda left them. I love the van and would have had to pay over $2,000 more at the local dealer (Joyce Honda is around 35 miles away from my home). I sent out a mass mailing of emails to dealers in NY, NY and PA and this was the best price for the EX.
I only saw some Tourings when I picked up my van - they are giving these great prices because they need the room for the 2006's. I was just surprised since the other dealers in the area don't seem to be giving these dealers to get their lots ready! Good luck - I bet other dealers will be coming down in price too (you would think they would have to) when the 06's come in.

I just signed a 39 mo. lease on a 2005 EX-L with DVD. I'm paying 449 per month. No money down and tax IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PAYMENT.
Anyone else have a lease on a 2005 EX-L with DVD? By the way, I am in one of the 5 boroughs of NYC.
Thanks and I look forward to all the great feedback!!
