I bought my EX-L (w/o RES, GPS) yesterday at Houston, TX yesterday. It was $17 over invoice, which is $28275. drive out price is $30,300. really great van with moonroof, leather, 6 CD changer and 8-way power seat. I also got quote for $100 below invoice, but that dealer is almost 200 miles away from me. So I choose this houston dealer. Great van. I love it.
You might try some other dealers. Various buyers in the Chicago area have reported buying near invoice price both here and at other Odyssey forums. Jacobs Twin has been frequently mentioned as having competitive prices at or below invoice. I purchased for $300 under invoice from Valley Honda. Grand Honda apparently advertised one or more models under invoice in a recent newspaper. Honda of Lisle and Joliet had a $99 over invoice offer recently. It's worth the time to use one of the internet buying services to solicit a dozen or more quotes if you're in the Chicago area. You're bound to find one selling very close to invoice, if not below, especially as we get closer to the end of the year. Even so, $500 over isn't a bad price if you otherwise like the dealership.
Most of my quote requests started from hondacars.com (using the Request a Quote function) and putting in a zip code to see what dealers are in an area. Since I live in the Washington, DC area I put my zip code first, then selected most of the dealers within a 50 mile radius in my first pass. This accounted for about 20 quote requests. But virtually all the quotes I got were from $1,600 over invoice to MSRP in this area, with the lower quotes from the Baltimore area.
Then I found this forum and saw the people were getting good quotes in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. So I expanded my search areas to southern Virginia, the northern part of North Carolina, and southern PA, including the Philadelphia area. Surprisingly, some of the best quotes generally came from the Philadelphia area and Harrisburg area dealers, but they were all about $700 to $1000 over invoice, except for one.
One of the last quotes I got was from from Faulkner Honda, which was an unbelievable $222 over invoice (as listed on Edmunds), but they did not have any Touring R&N's in stock, but "they were coming any day now." So when I asked what colors they were getting, the next day he said they just got one in Nighthawk Black and Silver Pearl with Sagebrush Pearl and Ocean Mist on the way. Well, he did not know my wife's first choice was Nighthawk Black, which only one other dealer from PA to NC had, and that dealer had a really high quote. So on that Friday, my wife decided to leave for Faulker Honda (two hours away) about an hour after we found out and we are glad we did. When we got there, our sales rep said that his manager told him an hour later that he was going to trade the Nighthawk Black to another dealer because nobody wants that color. So we are lucky we committed when we did.
Note that I also tried autobytel.com, cars.com, and a few other sites like that, but they hit the dealers I already solicited. I do not think those sites give you the best first quotes.
Tip 1: After you get an initial quote, I always ask for their best "out the door" quote. More often than not, the next quote will be lower.
Tip 2: When I was getting quotes that I thought were acceptable (about $900 over invoice) for the Touring R&N the first go round, I asked other dealers if they could beat it. A few dealers matched, but most stuck to their original quotes.
Tip 3: If looking for a Touring R&N, note that this is the hardest trimline to get right now, with only about half of the dealers having one or two in stock, and in the basic colors like Silver Pearl and Sagebrush Pearl.
Tip 4: If you are willing to wait it out a bit, you will find a great quote in your preferred color choices. Although it took seven days of quote requests and e-mails, it was worth the wait. We almost caved in to a dealer about 25 minutes away for my wife's fourth color choice and price of about $1,600 over invoice because that price was lower than Edmunds TMV and my wife really wanted the new car. Now she is glad we waited the two extra days.
In short, there is no easy way to get 40 quotes. But if devote about an initial hour to hondacars.com, you will get your initial quotes within 48 hours, from which you can negotiate with the various dealers. ">link title
Looks to me as if you did quite a bit of research. I live in Tampa just down the street from Hondaland. Thanks for the warning. You seemed to have had a good experience with Holman Honda. What is the email address of your contact at Holman Honda?
I read through the site as I researched my purchase, and found it very helpful. Thanks to all who participate

I found two different Invoice Prices at both 26400 or 26100, so either way I came in a little under. Having just moved here from DC, I was tempted to try and get a better deal in the DC area. from what I read, i may have done better down here. FYI, it is a $49 southwest flight from BWI. I am happy with the deal. Actually went in looking for used, but I was stunned at how they held their value, making a new purchase a viable option. Wife talked me into EX vs LX. The extra seat and the power doors won her over.
I have one question, What does everyone think about 1400 for an extra 3 year 36,oo warrenty? I usually don't even listen to the extended warrenty pitch, but it got my attention. If I do not use it at the end of 6 years, they refund all but $50. I have a couple days to get back to them on that.
I sprung for the Honda for safety and reliabilty, but the warrenty may actually make sense. Any thoughts???

To keep you from getting spanked by the hostess with the mostest, Claires, keep in mind that you can't post e-mail address/contacts here. All you can do is give out the dealership and city, no names to include e-mail addresses. If you want to swap e-mails, names or anything else that Edmund's prohibits, then both parties should change their account settings to make e-mail addresses public, then do it by e-mail. Don't forget to change it back to private afterwards if desired.
I know this from first hand experience and also have had some posts removed due to 'questionable' humor so I need another merit badge, LOL.

Read the extended warranty board here under Honda Odyssey. There are a few online Honda dealers offering the genuine Honda Care extended warranty for very low cost. I bought a 6 year, 120,000 mile $0 deductible Honda Care warranty from Bernardi Honda (www.hondawarrantyinfo.com) for $1,010. I had paid $995 for a HC 5/100 warranty.
Bought an EX-L at Classic Honda at Round Rock near Austin. Paid 299 over invoice published in edmunds.com. They charge $50 document processing fee. Other than that, jsut standard TTL.
I have been watching this message board for nearly a year. Last Christmas I offered dealers $1000 over invoice for an EX-L and fortunately had no takers. I was planning on buying it for my wife as a Christmas gift this year, but due to a car accident (other driver's fault/no injuries), I will be buying it this week instead. Since 10 o'clock last night, I have taken the suggestions of others on this website and emailed approximately 30 dealers in LA/Orange County region using the Honda website, and responded to their automated responses. Right off the bat, I am at $250 over invoice. I have asked the dealers to respond with an Out The Door quote so that I can be sure I am comparing apples to apples and am looking forward to talking with them.
I have to wait to hear from my insurance company about my car (I am pretty sure it is going to be totaled), and I want my wife to pick a color (Silver Pearl Metallic, Slate Green Metallic or white).
My experience shopping in Albuquerque NM for an Odyssey EX-L.
Garcia $30,345 Perfection $30,226 Credit Union $30,013
Fowler Honda in Oklahoma City $28,499 +ttl
Maybe I could have pushed a little lower, but was happy with that. Add my one way ticket ($200 and $60 of gas) I saved 1300 over anyone in Albuquerque. In fact they all told my to just go there and get the car. So I did. Easiest 1300 I've ever made. Thanks Edmunds for the research. Made car buying much easier.
If you don't mind listing the dealer and any experience you have had in the Atlanta area that would be great! We will be in the market in the next month or so.
Try Hennessy Honda of Woodstock, NW of Etlana. Their ISM's gave me a great price in mid-Sep for a Touring R&N. Quick, easy, no hassle deal via e-mail and they even picked me up at the airport. I also got a gamut of add ons at cost providing I paid for installation labor. This IS the best way to buy a vehicle and smart dealers will check not only what's on the lot, but what is projected inbound or is swappable between dealers. Don't forget about current incentives and get them into a little bidding war.
Just want to share with you that I was in a similar situation. My previous minivan was rearended by a truck and was totalled. I emailed 15 dealers using Honda website. 10 in Bay Area and 5 in LA. (I live in Bay Area.) The best offer was from Diamond Bar Honda which is $1000 over invoice (for EX-L with Navi/DVD.) This was in Earlier August when 2005 supply was really short and 2006 model had not arrived yet.
I took the offer from Diamond Bar Honda. Rented a car and drove down to LA. Took my family and friends to Universal Studios and Knott's Berry farm with the new car. It was a fun trip!
How much in the hole were you on your wrecked vehicle or did you have 'gap' insurance? This special coverage sometimes offered by a lender pays the difference between what you owe and market value. I got it for the first time in my life as the $175 could save me several thousand should I need it.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune but is sounds like it worked out for you and you got a fair price. I haven't checked incentives lately but seems there are many folks getting very close to invoice. We bought a Touring in mid-Sep and it was very difficult find the best bargain. Either they are high demand/scarce or dealers just think they can charge MSRP and wait.
I just purchased an '06 EXL-RES for $28,696 plus cross bars for $188 and mud guards for $105 plus tax, license, and doc fee $55. But, I can't take much credit as this price was advertized in the Chicago Tribune last Friday. After reading the posts of others, I jumped on the deal. Until I got my hands on the keys I was worried the deal was too good to be true. I did email 10 other Honda dealers in the area to see if they could beat the price and no one wanted to touch it. I asked them why the "fire sale" and they simply said it was a volume sales issue. They actually have the ad posted in the waiting room. So, check out Grand Honda. Good experience except that I took my trade-in elsewhere as they made a laughable offer. Oh, they also beat e-loan for financing and gave me 4.94% for 66 months.
Thanks to this forum I was able to get a deal for 06 ody ex-l res/nav (r&n) for 400 over invoice. Most of sf bay area dealers wanted 2-4 k over invoice for sage brush pearl. I just wish i did the email strategy much sooner. I spent 2 hrs negotiating at tracy and they insisted on a purchase price of 35.5k and low balled my trade in by 2k. Manager said that there's no way i could get my offer of 600 over invoice for a exl r-n in anywhere in northern cal. sorry to burst his bubble but honda at livermore gave me a price of 33k while a dealer in sacramento area offered 32173 plus kbb value for my trade in. total out the door for 34995.
I made it into the finance guy at the dealer after 9pm to have him present me with the following prepared packages to be added onto the cost of the LX: PREFERRED includes Hondacare -$1540, Vehicle Care -$520, Tire/Wheel Protection -$199, Gap Protection -$599, Appearance Protect -$695, Theft Protect -$329, Lojack -$695
VALUE: All the above except the Lojack BASIC: All above except Lojack and Theft Protection ECONOMY: All above except Lojack, Theft Protect, and Appearance Protection.
Do I need any of these?
I had anticipated purchasing the Hondacare at another dealership at a lower cost than the $1540 quoted but the finance guy said there has been a change since 9/1/05 where his warranty quote books considers a car used if the warranty is purchased after it leaves the lot and the warranty cost would then be higher.
other than hondacare & lojack.... what the :lemon: :lemon: is other stuff...
Hondacare and lojack is overpriced... IMHO.... check Bernardi Honda for Hondacare..... I think you can purchase Hondacare afterwards.... check with Bernardi...
Can someone share with me their price info on this car? I was able to negociate to 400-500 $ above invoice price of 26100, but not sure if this would be a good deal. Thx
-- Hondacare $1540 sounds like the 6 year, zero deductible, 100K mile coverage. Before anyone chimes in saying that's way too much, jump to the warranty forum and you'll see that in Florida, the Ins. Commish. regulates extended warranty pricing. We can't buy one out of state, sorry Guess at the total expected mileage and how long you expect to keep the vehicle. Add 20 percent and there's no need to get a warranty longer than that. It won't add anything come trade in or sale time.
-- Vehicle care $520. Not sure if this is prepaid service/maintenance or what. Your initial 'A' service will run $129 at 7,500 miles and I think the 'B' service after that is around $200. A & B alternate and if this bundles them and saves you money, go for it. Keep in mind you're paying interest on these too if rolled into your loan.
-- Tire/wheel protection $199. I think not. If you buy a Touring even flats are covered free for the first two years. This might strap you to having all repairs done at a Honda dealer and are you comfy pre-paying for a flat tire?
-- Gap Protection $599. Waaaaay too much but not a bad idea. I got mine through a Credit Union for $175, personal choice, you know what it does.
-- Appearance Protection $699. Not! This is aka 'PROFIT'
-- Theft Protection $329. Ditto- no way! Probably fed you some garbage about etching the windows, like somebody will steal just your window, LOL? All profit.
-- Lo-jack $695. Not for me and unless you live in a REALLY bad area, pass. Minivans aren't on the top ten or even top 50 list of most often stolen vehicles. I often wonder how short guys named Jack feel about this device.
YOU are in control here and don't have to buy any of these bundled, there's no savings doing so anyway. If it were me I'd go for the Economy minus the gap unless they knock off $400. Try getting a quote through your lender or insurance company.
Any policy that isn't hardware (gap, extended warranty, maybe even the theft prot) is under purview of the state.
The Vehicle Care option is as follows: 60 months/60000 Miles -5000 Mile Interval -Oil and air filter changes -20 point veh inspection and fluid top-off -Tire rotation every other visit
I figured that oil changes are necessary and having a dealer perform them would help as proof for the Honda Care warranty.
I didn't even know about the A&B services. WOW, it just never ends.
:confuse: I need to buy a new minivan immediately. Is $300 below the invoice price of $31,700 a decent price to pay for a new 2005 Odyssey Touring (without NAV or DVD) in the South Jersey/Philadelphia area? The invoice price includes a $515 destination charge. The car has 17 miles on the odometer.
What's the best/easiest way to use honda.com to get multiple dealer quotes on an Odyssey? It only allows you to pick one dealer at a time when asking for a quote and restricts the location of the dealers to a certain radius of your zip. I'd like to get mutliple quotes and get to dealers within a wider area. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Mickeybee: I also live in the south Jersey area. That price seems to be a good one. Who is your dealer. I am also in the market for a ODY, but I am leaning more towards a EX-L R&N package. Will post my experience soon, once I start dealing with the dealers.

Great deals. Care to share - which dealers? Thanks!
Hello, we are considering trading in or selling our 2003 Honda Odyssey. I have researched the value but am a little confused. I see these prices but have seen Odysseys listed 3,000 to 4,000 above Edmund's prices. What is the best course of action? :confuse:
You'll find significant differences among Edmunds, KBB, NADA, "Black Book" and other resources. Dealers often use the highest one when selling you a car and then turn to the lowest one to make you an offer on your trade.
If you are selling yourself, first get a guaranteed quote from a local Carmax if you have one. Then check the Carmax used inventory and prices on comparables (year, trim, mileage) at autotrader.com and cars.com used vehicle advertisements. Price yours below the dealer ads and leave some room to negotiate down because buyers always want a "deal". Make sure your price is similar to those from other private sellers or maybe a few hundred below. Stay at least a few hundred or so above the Carmax quote and wholesale average from the internet sources.
I recently sold my Odyssey. Dealers listed most comparables around 15.5k-16.5k, but presumably you would negotiate them for less. Carmax buy offer, dealer trade offers and internet wholesale average (KBB, Edmunds, NADA) were 12k-13k. So, I listed mine at 15k and sold it for 14.5k in about 2 weeks with about $70 of advertising at autotrader.com and cars.com. The last time we got a car the difference was so low that with the tax advantage of trading it in we saved a lot of effort that way, so it depends a lot on the current supply/demand in your area.
I am shopping for an Odyssey and was just quoted $35,650 for a 2005 Touring with Nav/Res. I have been seeing people quoted only a little higher for a 2006. Is this a good deal or does it seem high for a 2005? The car only had 20 miles on it so it wasn't a demo and was in the color I wanted. Any opinions would be helpful.
O6 EXl internet quoted 29,058 (the best price of 11 dealer quotes) which comes to about 32K out the door. So I drove down there-while there I asked for the EX price to compare and was told 26,801/which woudl be 29,335 out the door. They have the colors I'd like in both models. Any opinions/advice on tne next step? Do I have any leverage if i'm paying cash?
I'd definitely get a 2006 as depending on your negotiating prowess, you only need to spend a few hundred or perhaps $1,000 more (if you're not that good at it, LOL). The difference at trade-in/resale time will more than make up for it. Sounds like a rather slick salesperson is trying to convince you this is a fantastic deal. Truth is, they're trying to unload what no one else wants because invoice prices between years are only $300 apart. People that can afford a Touring seldom want one that's a year old and that's what you'll have the moment you drive it off the lot. There are subtle improvements between years like third row LATCH tie downs that could be worthwhile if you have kids. Some question quality issues of a first year run. There much more info on year differences discussed in the 2005+ forum.
Honda pumps these things out quite regularly so I wouldn't fret over 2006 availability, color, etc. Use the web, allow your local dealer and others to locate one for you in stock or an upcoming allocation. You have to decide if a few hundred now is worth a grand or more later...
I had the very same experience and bought an '06 Touring R&N in Atlanta after negotiating online via the Honda vehicles quote request website.
My suggestion is negotiate your best bottom dollar price on the 2005, then add $300-$500 and tell them you'll buy an identical 2006 when they get you one. Leave a deposit, wait, they'll respond.
I found this forum was really valuable. Thanks everyone.
I had a similar experience with Honda dealers we have in Sacramento Elk Grove and Sacramento. I got several quotes for 3-4 dealers. The best quote i got was for $32,173 for EXL-RES & NAV. THe dealer didn't have the colors and the pro-pack wanted OTD $32552. We ended up with Autowest Honda in Roseville. Not only they were able to match the Internet Price quote i received, they had the package we wanted and my wife's favorite color and 1 free oil change.
With my trade in and owe. I was only out $200.00 negative equity. That's because my sale's guy never thoroughly inspected my car which he would have noticed a dent cost about $1800.00 less deductible to repair car, which i received last week but haven't cash it to have it fix for repair. To make the story short. I wouldn't think the dealer wouldn't have done the deal if they saw the dent....I hope he doesn't get into trouble for miscalculating the true trade value of my 03 Murano.
I didn't buy the honda care package. I would have given them more money if they were able to sell those to us. Plus they're ripped off IMO. I already has the extended coverage through my insurance company for only $300.00 up to 100,000 miles.
Finding a wealth of information on these boards - Thanks all.
After reading the posts I decided to email a dozen dealers in my area looking for an 06' EXL w/ RES. Two actually replied next day (Sunday, so I guess understandable; we'll see tomorrow) one with a price at 35k then dropped to 33k so I simply told her both her prices are over MSRP, call me when youre serious, etc. The next dealer called and after explaining I didnt want to play around, ready to do the deal like now... came back with her "negotiable price" or as she said "the price you can walk in the door with" at $29696 without any haggling. I was pleasantly surprised (although didnt show it) and told her that maybe we could work something out. I also told her i didnt want any bait and switch games etc. after we spoke about possibly furthering the deal. Now I have a few questions/concerns... 1. Is that price right out of the box a bit low? According to edmunds invoice is only $550 less than that price. And she implied there was maybe a bit of room in that being that she cant haggle over the phone.. 2. If this price is true, When I show up - is there anything I should watch out for so i dont get had? I dont want this to be "lets get the sucker in and then take him for a ride"... 3. Now I was able to calculate a price (and please correct me if I am wrong) for a 36 mo lease - MSRP 32395, Cap cost 29696, 62% residual, a .00275 money factor, and 8.5% sales tax in NY for $438.20, nothing down, taxes in, etc. Am I way off base? I'm know I forgot destination for 595 in my calculations, but that shouldnt change anything drastically, if I'm doing this correct.
Please let me know if I am missing anything in the picture, any red flags, and what would be the best steps to take next. Much thanks in advance for responses!!
Does anyone know what dictates if you get the wood trim or the titanium trim on the dashboard? I have seen both in the dealers, but havent seen anything in the brochure whether its an option or what is standard. All pics in the brochure show titanium....
No such thing as stock wood trim in an Odyssey. Any wood or faux wood you saw is either a Honda accessory (recently saw it in a dealers Honda book) or aftermarket. The standard in all trim levels is the brushed plastic that looks like metal you referred to as Titanium.
I don't like it,they send me over to this dealer and the sales gave me a price of 28500 for EX-L.This is back in april, since they don't have the color l want,l ask them to call me when they have it and they never did.l just pick up my 06 yesterday and paid 27708 from another dealer.
dyf: I experience the same after I made a deal with the Salesman for a 06 Honda Civic EX with MT and Navi 4 dr.sedan.
The price of the car seems to be reasonable in these times, but the guy I am told to see before I prepare for the pick up gave me the following, etching of windows $200, Lojack with passive alarm $995 plus $300.
Honda Care with 8 years 120,000 miles zero deductible for $1650. This is a total of $3150.
I have not given him an immediate answer. I am thinking of just taking the car out of the dealership without all that and check on the price later.
I think that after making a smart deal on the car. I do not want to give up all the gain by buying extras.
What do you think of my experience?
Seems to me Honda Care have categories of 0 to 6000 miles as cartegory 1. It does not matter if you dive it out of the dealership where you buy the car. Drive it out and it becomes a used car sounds fishy to me.
I purchased my 2006 Odyssey EX-L through Costco. They tell you which dealer to go to. Make an appointment. You walk into the dealer and they give you a price. If you don't like it, leave.

For me, it would serve no purpose to buy a car and then ask others (who may not tell the truth)if I paid too much.
" I would feel uncomfortable"
Exactly my point, so why ask?

Credit Union $30,013
Fowler Honda in Oklahoma City $28,499 +ttl
Maybe I could have pushed a little lower, but was happy with that. Add my one way ticket ($200 and $60 of gas) I saved 1300 over anyone in Albuquerque. In fact they all told my to just go there and get the car. So I did. Easiest 1300 I've ever made.
Thanks Edmunds for the research. Made car buying much easier.
Good luck!
VALUE: All the above except the Lojack
BASIC: All above except Lojack and Theft Protection
ECONOMY: All above except Lojack, Theft Protect, and Appearance Protection.
Yes and no, here we go:
Good luck!
60 months/60000 Miles -5000 Mile Interval
-Oil and air filter changes
-20 point veh inspection and fluid top-off
-Tire rotation every other visit
I figured that oil changes are necessary and having a dealer perform them would help as proof for the Honda Care warranty.
I didn't even know about the A&B services. WOW, it just never ends.
Thanks
Great deals. Care to share - which dealers?
Thanks!
Good luck!
I hope you can my experience helpful.
I experience the same after I made a deal with the Salesman for a 06 Honda Civic EX with MT and Navi 4 dr.sedan.
