+Tax and Reg
no trade in, no financing, no extras

nice guys, would definitely go back.
talk to internet sales. that's def the way to go.
Thanks to everyone for the info
GREAT CAR!
After reading the posts I decided to email a dozen dealers in my area looking for an 06' EXL w/ RES. Two actually replied next day (Sunday, so I guess understandable; we'll see tomorrow) one with a price at 35k then dropped to 33k so I simply told her both her prices are over MSRP, call me when youre serious, etc. The next dealer called and after explaining I didnt want to play around, ready to do the deal like now... came back with her "negotiable price" or as she said "the price you can walk in the door with" at $29696 without any haggling. I was pleasantly surprised (although didnt show it) and told her that maybe we could work something out. I also told her i didnt want any bait and switch games etc. after we spoke about possibly furthering the deal. Now I have a few questions/concerns...
1. Is that price right out of the box a bit low? According to edmunds invoice is only $550 less than that price. And she implied there was maybe a bit of room in that being that she cant haggle over the phone..
2. If this price is true, When I show up - is there anything I should watch out for so i dont get had? I dont want this to be "lets get the sucker in and then take him for a ride"...
3. Now I was able to calculate a price (and please correct me if I am wrong) for a 36 mo lease - MSRP 32395, Cap cost 29696, 62% residual, a .00275 money factor, and 8.5% sales tax in NY for $438.20, nothing down, taxes in, etc. Am I way off base? Dealer says destination is included and this the price + tax and tags. But she said this is the "negotiable price" twice. Is this a red flag??
Please let me know if I am missing anything in the picture, any red flags, and what would be the best steps to take next. Much thanks in advance for responses!! Would like to put together a deal by this weekend so I'd love some feedback and thanks!
I got 4.5% for 72 through a credit union, no DP. Thanks for letting the world know about this special short-term deal. Recognize that the fine print matters. Depending on your beacon score aka creditworthiness you might not qualify for any special rate or will have to pay a higher rate. I can hear the dealers now, hurry in now before they're all gone!
The best way to handle this is to get some numbers locally. Yes, it takes some time but if the numbers you get a close to each other you can have confidence you'll get the same elsewhere (if in the same or similar market).
That said, an out of town dealer should be willing/able to at least "ballpark" your trade over the phone if you offer a complete and accurate description.
Be careful, or you can get highballed just to get you into the store!
If you don't like what you are offered, just sell it yourself!
I have a few questions for you guys- -
1. Is it likely true that this major honda dealer CAN NOT get an Odyssey EX-L with DVD in the color Nighthawk Black (like the salesman represented), or is there a way that all of these dealers like the one I went to can generally get one from somewhere in the Honda inventory where dealers get cars? I am looking for approximately the next three weeks. Are some dealers betetr at getting requested cars in preferred car colors than others..should I check other dealers in the area?
2. The second question relates to the first in part, this salesman was clearly trying to shoehorn us into leasing another Honda Odyssey EX-L in two other colors, and was trying to get us to make the lease transaction right then within the hour. He said he can have us ready in less than an hour. Aside from the obvious that this salesman was trying to CLOSE us and have us make an imemdiate lease transaction, what is the situation whereby a dealer may prefer to sell cars already on their lot rather than ordering another car from Honda that will be delivered at a later date? Do theey make more money on oens on their lot than if they need to order one...this salesman was saying that he basically could NOT get is a Nighthawk Black Odyssey, but it seems to us that he was conflicted and agenda driven along the liens o0f my questions above. We appreciate the responses and comments you guys may provide, we are new here and find this site and dialogue very informative.
3. Any ballpark information as to how low above or below sticker price that dealers are going now on 2006 Odyssey EX-L? Also, what does Out The Door Price mean- -does that mean if you are going to consummate the transaction right now and take the car out the door, what is the bestr price the salesman will give? Thanks!
2. Salespeople don't want you to leave the showroom. A commission now is better than no commission later, regardless of the price or profit for the dealer.
3. Depends on your area. In Chicago, some dealers sell at or below the published internet "invoice" price, thousands less than MSRP. In other areas, people seem to be paying much closer to sticker price. Out the door means the price including freight, taxes, fees and all other charges. A dealer selling for $500 over invoice with no fees is obviously a better deal than one selling at invoice but forces you to pay $1000 for add-ons and fees.
Good luck.
He may have run a "locate" only to find that no other dealer in his area had one.
Of course, he/she is going to try to switch you to a car they have in inventory. That's his job.
And, he may be doing you a favor. A car/color that sells poorly when new will sell poorly later on as a used car!
I paid 29,700 OTD and am located in Hayward, California. PS: I also purchased the 3 Row All-Purpose floor matts, whcih is included in the above price.

Answer: A fairly good deal if she's armed with the information from this forum. I needed a new minivan ASAP, so I did the following:
1. Got a 30 day free online subscripition to Consumers Reports through my MSN account.
2. I decided that I could live with the potential problems listed in Consumers and in this forum in exchange the best driver's safety rating.
3. I emailed 24 Honda dealers, through the Honda website, using my nickname, which implies that I am a male. I also used the lingo from this site to demonstrate that I had some knowledge of the product.
4. The MSRP for the touring with RES is $37,147.
The invoice price is listed as $33,471.
I got offers ranging from $33,122 to $36,600. The lowest bid was from Clinton Honda,in North Jersey, which was too far to drive in gridlocked holiday traffic for someone my age. But I used that number to negotiate a price with the dealers closer to my home.
5. After a little dickering, I got a price of $32,900 at the dealer nearest my home. I insisted that they add wheel locks at no charge, to make the $500 tires a little harder to steal, and also throw in whatever was already on the car(pinstriping, etc.)
6. I refused to sign the arbitration clause. No problem. I also insisted on taking delivery during daylight hours when it wasn't raining so I could inspect the car properly. I test drove it at high speed to check for windshield noise and rattling.
7. I had intended to pay cash, but took the 2.9% for three years instead, since investing the money at a higher rate makes sense in my low tax bracket. I didn't investigate other financing, because I really need to get the car on Wednesday.
So, that's my story. I'm satisfied with the price, which is $571 below invoice, for the exact color I wanted.
THANK YOU ALL FOR SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE!
Thank you
Elizabeth
it was a price they couldn't beat. The dealer in San Marcos even wanted to match my later offer of $29,200 when I was driving to San Antonio, but the car had 98 miles on it and I passed the deal.
This forum is very helpful when I decided what price I should pay. Thank you for sharing the information.
I live in San francisco bay area and i am planning to buy Honda Odyssey EX-L without any more options. What is the best deal i can get ? I got a online quote (by phone) from a dealer for Invoice price $28,258 which will include the destination charges.
Is this the best we can get ?
And i would like this forum comments on the extended honda care warranty ?
Did any you get the maintainence deals which includes something like all services up to 60k miles or 5 years or something similar.
Thanks
Vas
Don't see any need for an ESP for the model you want, especially given the longer powertrain warranty on the '06s.
Never have heard of this type of an all-inclusive maintence deal on any Honda, probably because their recommended service is, relatively speaking, not inexpensive.
$36,647.00 + 299.00 Doc Fee + free splashguards, wheel Locks, cargo tray = $36, 946 +TTL.
I received the 3.9%/60 month financing and about $2k over Edmunds trade value for my '05 MDX. So, I probably paid a few hundred extra but made up for it on my trade. It was great dealing with Chapman Honda in Tucson, AZ.
Which dealer did you deal with in SA? I too live in Austin and will prob drive to SA to buy my minivan.
Also, when you say OTD, does that include a reduction for a trade in?
Thanks,
Fellow Austinite
Just found out about you guys. I am a single woman buying a car for the first time..OK I'm old but never did this alone. I got the invoice for the 06 EX-L with R & N. It was 31,123 + 550 destination and handling.(31,673).
I got him down to 32,242 including the rear cargo tray, mud flaps and cross bars for the roof rack. He couldn't meet the prices for the Honda care wrap around that the online prices were or for the 8/120 so I'll get that on my own.
How did I do? haven't totally closed the deal, this was all over the phone, as Wed is the end of the month.
Quotes were coming in for 2006 Touring R+N for ~37,000-37,500. Then I got a quote of 35,500 including destination, processing, etc. from Faulkner Honda in Harrisburg PA. I initiated contact with the salesman there, and he offered the car in my wife's first color choice for this great price (about $48 above invoice the way I figure it). Then he offered 15,000 for trade in for her 2002 EXL with just under 60k miles on it (about 1000-2000 above the trade in value, depending on your source...KBB or Edmunds). I jumped on this deal. The car came in about a week later (he didn't even ask for a deposit to reserve it...just said it had my name on it when it came in). We drove about 2 hours up there and were in and out of the dealership in about an hour and a half. Most of that time was spent showing my wife the features of the new car. Other than the mileage, they didn't so much as look at the trade we drove up in. Very easy and very pleasant. I had my own financing arranged, so no problems there. Then he matched the 5yr/100K written Honda care warranty quote I got from Bernardi ($746).
Overall, this was great purchasing experience (even better than when I bought my Lexus about a year ago) No bait and switch, no dogging the trade, no anxiety provocation. I would most highly recommend that anyone from the DC area who wants to purchase a new Honda and doesn't want to get soaked to invest in a drive up to Faulkner Honda in Harrisburg. You won't be sorry.
You need to ask the salesperson if your price is an "out the door" price, meaning it includes all fees. This will help you avoid any surprises when you actually sit down to sign the deal.

The only fee I was given was the destination and handling fee which was included at 550.00
Although called a "documentation fee" or "processing fee" such fees are, in fact, merely additional revenue as vehicles cannot be sold without the "paperwork."
However, the dealer has quoted $780 for an extended warranty for 7yr/60K miles. I feel that the no. of miles covered is less. Any suggestions? I have time until this weekend to sign up for this.
Thanks in advance for your advice.
I am planning to take 7 yr / 75,000 or 100,000 mile warranty and the online quote i got was for around $975 or $1275 (for 75k and 100k miles respectively)
Hope this helps
Thx for your note on EW on another thread.
Did you close the deal and what is OTD price? I just started looking for Ex-l w/o RES & NAV. Got a lowest deal 28,800 selling price from watertown honda.
Thanks.
Even though dealer didn't have this colour he is getting it from a nearby dealer.
Out the door price is around $31,035 ($28,258 + 8.75% Tax + 249 License + 45 Doc Fee + 8 some tire fee).
We will be signing the paper work tomorrow and pick up the car.
I will let you guys know how it goes and the name of the dealership where i got it from tomorrow.
Thanks
Vasu
I just purchased a 2006 EX-L with RES at invoice in Louisville, KY. $29,696 with $550 destination charge. Their doc fee was only $199 and title fees were $52. It was really a no haggle deal. I can get you the info if you would like. I am sure they would do the same for a touring.
No names of specific individuals, however...
Thanks,
