Hopefully this explains.
Now for the experience. We test drove the car in Santa Monica at Santa Monica Honda so after we got all of our low, low internet quotes(thanks for all the help, guys) we went in there to give them a shot at our business. There was no way they could match the deal and they sent "manager" after "manager" into the small room we were placed in to try to convince us to pay more and to tell us that the internet price was a scam. They finally relented and focused in on trying to sell us there demo model with 5K miles for the internet price. We walked. We then went to Miller Honda in Culver City where we were assured via e-mail that our car was in stock and the internet price would be honored. Our internet salesperson told us the car had been sold the day before but that we could lea deposit and he'd have the car there the next day. We went back the next day only to find out that Miller had no EX-L's w/Nav and DVD to trade for our car with another dealer but that, if the other dealer didn't sell the car that night, they'd put it "on hold" for us and we could have it the following weekend when Miller had a car to trade with. We were also told that, for our trouble, they'd knock $300 off the price. I called the dealer with the car and found out, much to my joy, that it had not been sold the night before. When Miller called us later in the day, our salesperson told us that that it had been sold. I asked him to call again because they had told me it hadn't been sold. I ended up having to call Miller back to find our salesperson but not until after having confirmed with the dealer up north(again) that the car was,in fact, still there. Our salesperson insisted that he was told it was sold the night before. I prompted him to call again at which time he acknowledged that the car was there but that he couldn't get it and to try to cut a deal directly with the other dealer. I tried to do this but they wanted $700 more so I went through my internet quotes. Drove To Long Beach Honda where they were more than happy to have my business. Closed the deal in less than an hour and we are the owners of a new minivan. Hope this helps future L.A. area buyers.
The big problem we found is that most dealers either didn't have any in stock or just had one or two. I felt as if this decreased our leverage. Plus I didn't really want to spend a ton more time going from dealer to dealer.
Very happy with our product at least
There's only one way - sell your vehicle yourself, that way the dealer can't "bury" the "deal" in the transaction.
Really, has anyone who doesn't have wheel locks had a tire stolen? It would be interesting to hear from the other people who have not had a tire stolen. I feel like that option is maybe good for the street racers who spend $1,000 per rim, but for a minivan?
Thanks.
EX-L with RES and NAV. Any warranty clauses I need to worry about ??
Thanks
$1000 warranty for 8yr/120K miles EX-L DVD/RES/NAV.
I just bought the 8yr/120K miles/$0 deductible for $1249 for a 2005 EX-L with DVD and NAV. So, if you get it for $1000 and it is a Hondacare that is a great price and I think below dealer invoice.
Whether it is worth it, that depends on the person. For me, it is the peace of mind. There is a lot of mechanical parts, and also a lot of electronics that can break, and I plan to keep this van for 8 to 10 years (I hope). If there is a real problem, I like the idea of dropping the car off at the dealer and saying "fix it". :-) With Hondacare you get things that are included in a AAA membership, and also a rental on a covered repair.
I setup and maintain servers and supercomputer class machines that have much less moving parts and some cost over million dollars each and they break too. So, $1249 is cheap insurance.

Emil
Odyssey EX-L.
I put $0 down , 36 months, 16,000 miles per year. The payment including tax and everything is $445 per month.
I got their top tier lease price because my beacon score was very high.
It came with a few extras including a molded/shaped liner made of some sort of rubber for the very back area behind the back seat. Also has burlwood kit on the dash and doors that supposedly costs $499. It actually looks pretty nice.
I thought that price was a pretty good deal.
Best of all, they took my wife out of her Nissan Altima lease and saved us big time . She had 3 months left on the lease (approx. $1000). She would have been over on mileage by approx. 8000 miles .20 cents per mile (approx. $1600) and the damage/wear and tear to her car (approx. $1500- $2000).
I am basing the wear and tear from experience with our first Altima lease back . The first time we turned in her first Nissan Altima on lease, they sent us a bill for over $1900. Nissans leases are the worst, they allow no allowance for normal wear and tear and they charge for every little flaw to the car.
Anyway, I wanted to share that experience because I thought others should know about it so perhaps they can benefit from this info.
Also, the dealership was not bad at all to deal with. I thought it was going to be like a root canal but it was not.
$200 to have the car delivered to my door about 675 miles from the dealership. Tax is additional but in SC is a flat $300 (then we get to pay property taxes every year on cars). I got wheel locks, heavy duty mats (up north you deal with snow, down here we deal with sand!), and a cargo tray for the rear compartment as part of the deal. The dealership is Faulkner Honda in Harrisburg, PA. Now I'm shopping for the best price on an extended warranty (120K, 0 deductible, 8 year). The price I got this vehicle for is several THOUSAND less than any area dealer would quote me. I LOVE the NAV system, the kids love the RES and I am a happy owner. Actually, this is my second Odyssey, I owned one the first year it came out. The 2006 is an incredible car and one that I hope will serve me well for many years.
Can you tell us which dealership offered you the $1000 8yr/120K warranty? I assume that this is a genuine Honda Care $0 deductible warranty, if so, this is a very good price. I am in the market for such a warranty and if you could share where you got it, it would be great help. Thanks.

I have seen a couple of recent reports from other states of prices $1000 plus below invoice.
I spoke with couple of dealership and everyone is quoting 1-2% over invoice
and they have the dvd package listed as roughly around $1500 so that would make it $31,650. so yes I would say it's a good deal. But due to year end and them trying to make there number, you can alway squeez them for a few more bucs.
I believe they can sell this for 3-500 under invoice and still make money. It depends on their end of the month/year quotas and company incentives.
Supply/demand is a big factor, I agree as is month/year end sales pressure. Best Wishes
RES - rear entertainment system not read. sorry
Great price! If you feel inclined, can you please email me a copy of your quote? The teaming up thing isn't allowed.
Livermore isn't too far away, but most of the internet dealers I talked to said they'd match a printed quote.
Thanks.
Thanks for the info.
