I had a very good buying experience through Hennessy Honda, Woodstock, GA. Being North of Etlana they might be too far out of reach but worth a try. Be sure an ask for the Internet Sales Manager, can't mention names, emails, or phone numbers here. They got me what I wanted ('06 Slate Green/Olive interior Touring R&N) at a good price and I negotiated online starting with a Honda.com quote request. Solicit a dozen or so bids and get a little friendly competition going.

    Good luck!

Vasu -- You're getting, "Sega Brush Pearl"? Sega is a game system not a color and I'm holding out for X-Box 360 Pearl, it brand new and looks faster & more detailed, LOL. I think you meant Sage Brush! Our is Slate Green Metallic, a lighter blue-green, not sure if you've seen it. Either green is fine and you'll love the Olive interior, just don't choose that Nintendo Red or Sony Silver.

Thank you jaylo247. I didn't know abt this. If you have EW thru Bernardi, can you take ur van to any auth dealer to fix the issues ?
  • vasuvasu Member Posts: 12
Yes i meant Sage Brush Pearl. Finally i got my Honda EX-L home today.
No price bargaining at the dealer. He stick to the price he told over
the phone after i sent a request for online quote.
Total Price on Road in Alameda county of Northern California is 31,037.
(which includes 8.75% Tax, $249 License Fee, $45 Doc Fee and $8 Tire
fee). I didn't get any luck with accessories (i mean free from dealer).
I bought All season floor mats, Mud guards and Cargo Tray for a tota of
    $337 + Tax.

The dealer i brought the car is from Berkeley Honda.

Thanks for all the suggestions from this forum and everyone out there.
I will be monitoring this forum for next few days to see if i can
    answer any questions.

    Thanks
    Vasu

We just picked up a 2006 EX-L w/DVD tonight from Schaller Honda in New Britain for $29,200, plus conveyance fee ($199). We negotiated the deal via email. It took about a day to get to the price we were loking for. They were very good to work with and made the sale easy.
    Good luck.

Just bought a 2006 EX-L with DVD from Herb Chambers in Boston for $28955 plus $198 doc fee. Deal negotiated via email. Very straightforward. Paid $950 for 6 yr/100K $0 deductible Honda Care warranty. End of the month push.

    HI,
I just picked up my 06 EX-L with nav and DVD. I want to get the heavy duty mats for winter, as I live in Rochester, NY. Is Autosport the cheapest still? Also what about getting the console that comes with the Touring. How does one buy that or other aftermarket items, like the rain guards on the windows?
Where does one get these things?

Got a Ocean Blue Metallic EXL R&N yesterday from Honda of Nanuet $100 over invoice. So I paid 31773 + 45 doc fee and 12.50 tire wate fee for NY + tax and title. They downplayed my trade a little bit and I was OK with it since I had some major repirs which would have cost me around 1500 anyways to fix and get a better price on trade in. So I think I got a good deal at the end. The Van drives so nice much larger than my previous MPV. Wife loves the color. :D

Try email Rusty Wallace Honda. We just bought EX model with sports package (auto dimmer, fog lamps, and cross bars) at $25800 (plus TTL) after trade in (12 years old Caravan). The quoted price in the email for EX is $26449 and $942 for the package.

I am in Danville, CA. I am about to buy the EX with DVD and Navigation. Lowest price so far is 33135 plus 288 regional fee and 550 destination, plus taxes. I assume yours did not include tax (your email says it did). Let me know. thanks Bill
  • vasuvasu Member Posts: 12
My price which i mentioned $31,037 did include tax and it is Out the door price.

Are you planning to buy EX-L with DVD and Navi OR EX with DVD and Navi ?

Check all the dealers. Check also the Berkeley Honda. You might get better price.

After i purchased my Odyssey i got calls from other dealers who were prepared to go down $500 that what they quoted to match the price with other dealers.

    So be patient and negotiate.

$29,200 is this OTD price for EX-L w/DVD!!!! I can't believe that is a out-the-door price.. hope it is true.. I think that is the best deal to my knowledge. i am getting standard ex-l for $30,000 otd.

    hey all,

i've been a silent observer for the last few months and now that i've taken the plunge i'd like to share my experience. found my best deal at valley honda in spokane mostly via the internet. no deposit was required, my van was held by my word alone. ( i guess after 3 months of chat you get to know these folks.) on 11-29 i purchased a 2006 slate green EXL with wheel locks, mud flaps, all season mats, and a cargo tray (nearly $500 in accessories.) for $32,000 including TTL (out the door.) the sales people were not pushy. great experience. :)

Yes, it is a genuine HC EW valid at any Honda dealership. Really no different than purchasing at your local dealership and then moving out of state; your warranty will still be good!

    BOB MONTGOMERY HONDA. http://www.bobmontgomeryhonda.com/en_US/
They might not come right out at invoice, just know that they have (me) and will probably let it go for that. Especially if you are shopping around with another local dealership on the other side of town. Each says that they will beat the other's price, but this one has the cheaper doc fee by around $200 and no silly dealer add ons like $399 for some kind of exterior protection--$215 for undercoat protection (not joking about these add ons or the price). Oh, they did have a pin stripe, which I did not pay for-and all weather mats, cargo tray, splash guards--all of which they will remove if you would like-even the pin stripe. My experience was great, highly recommend.

EX-L. Thanks for the advice. Current best price is at Hayward Honda. 36k out the door. :confuse:

    I have a few questions:
    1) What is this dealer holdback and what range is usual?

    2) Has anyone purchased below Edmunds "dealer invoice" price?

    3) Is it best to contact dealers via internet first or do you go in and speak with internet sales or fleet mgr.?

Thanks, just getting start at this, plan to purchase just after C'mas or New years....
  • vasuvasu Member Posts: 12
I think you should try to get the car at invoice price. Check out with San Leandro honda they were willing to give me EX-L at the invoice price (only for in stock vehicles).
  • rajunrajun Member Posts: 2
    Hi Srikanth2305:

Congrats on your EX-L R&N purchase. That is a great price. So they still offer at $100 over invoice. Did you go through the internet route, or walked into the dealership and made the deal. If you don't mind me asking, can you pls share the rep's name. I am also in the market for a EXL with R&N, and I am unable to get anything below @1K over MSRP.

    Thanks
  • srikanth2305srikanth2305 Member Posts: 22
Thank You. Yes, I went through the internet route and asked for quotes from many dealers. They started sending emails ehrn they had some sale going on and thats how i got this price. I also had a few other dealers willing to do 500 above invoice. But I thought this was the right oppurtunity and grabbed it. No they dont have it any more it was over on the 30th. But I think it pays to get on their email list until you buy one.

After getting info. from the forums here and from the car buying advice section of Edmunds we finally requested quotes for the EX from dealerships in our area. The nearest dealership originally quoted 700.00 over invoice and after speaking with other dealerships (and of course with the original dealership again) they beat the other quotes and we are now down to 400.00 invoice. We did go there and have our trade-in appraised, it came in exactly at KBB. Now for my questions....

    1) We did a little research on the make and model of our trade-in (2003 Honda Civic) and the dealership we are working with has a 2002 Civic for sale and they are asking 14,500 for it. Everything is the same between our vehicle and the one they are selling except ours has a multi-disc changer, lower miles and is of course 1 year newer. Our trade-in was appraised at 10,000 (same as KBB) should we try to get more for our trade...or is this a fair deal?

    2) Overall, with the 400. over invoice what do you all think...great deal, run with it OR OK deal, try to negotiate more?

    Thank you all!

After emailing ll the dealers, I received a bunch of responses, many blanket emails - One was from Hillside Honda in queens, advertising a 3 day sale - many models all listed in the email - the Ody EXL w/ REs was tagged at $28,197!! Called up, asked for the sales manager and said if i took the day off to pick up this car and do the deal, there better had be no bs. Bottom line is, I went in - luckily they had the color I wanted in stock and that was the price - $28,197 + dest + tax and tags - thats it. So if any advice from me - send out a ton of emails - tell dealers to email you various specials, be ready to make a move by the next day or two and youre in... - Kudos Hillside Honda!!

jstephens1, Honda's holdback is 3%. The usual range (which this falls into) is irrelevant. It is what it is.

There have been a few here (including myself) who have purchased Odysseys at or below invoice in the past year. There has been more of this recently because, quite obviously, the new car market is soft right now. That said, this is very much a function of local markets. For instance, this is easy to do here in Ohio (I had a dealer offer me an '06 EX-L a week ago for about $300 under invoice) but harder elsewhere, such as in Florida.

Save yourself alot of time and send out 10-20 emails requesting quotes. If possible, indicate you that you are ready to buy and shopping for the best price.

Would suggest buying toward the end of December rather than waiting until January as some stores will be trying to hit year-end sales goals.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
minivanmom2, shop your Civic at some of the other dealers who sent you quotes. You might be surprised how much (or how little) trade-in numbers can vary. Since the range of quotes on a new Odyssey is so very narrow (only $300), you will quickly find out how much your trade is truly worth.

Given that you've gotten prices from a number of dealers and the range is limited, you've pretty well established what your local market is. I would suggest seeking "sweeteners" to close any deal you contemplate. If you want a number of accessories (say worth $400), tell the store you'll do the deal if they are included in the quoted price.

Regarding the '02 Civic priced at $14,500: bear in mind that dealers make LOTS of money on late model used cars. Some price their used cars ridiculously high and immediately come down if any serious interest is shown. A few months ago I was looking for a New Beetle for my daughter and a salesman quoted me a number that was a good $3000 more than what it was worth. Before I wandered away, he lowered his price by $3000, down to where it should have been to start with.

    cccompson Thanks for the advice!!

The Odyssey comes with a 5 yr. 60,000 mile powertrain warranty. If you purchase a 7 yr. 75,000 mile warranty is it actually a 2 yr. 15,000 mile warranty? Just a thought.

honda dealerships in order to send them all emails to price out their odysseys?

Is there a way to get all of them in an area (ie. the state of florida) at one time or do I have to look everyone of them up one at a time?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

I live in SE South Carolina and am looking for dealers who provided good deals SC,NC,VA,GA area. I want all the bells and whistles and am impressed by all the great info this forum has! Thanks!
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
No, factory extended warranties cover more than the powertrain.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Go to Honda's website and find the "locate a dealer" link. Type in your zip code (or that of wherever you want to shop). You will get a list of about 30 stores on 6 or so pages. Then contact each store directly. Some dealers will have their inventories listed and some won't.

If you are in the state of Florida, skiiii664, I know from personal experience to avoid Honda dealers in Brevard County as their prices just aren't good. Best quote I got awhile back when shopping for my dad was at the store in Daytona Beach.

After reading your post for $28,197 for EXL-RES I called to see if I could get the same deal. Sure enough, it was a real offer as advertised (through Dec 3).

Unfortunately, they low-balled my trade-in by 2K. I have done a lot of reseach on the "real" wholesale value of my trade so I had to walk away from the deal because it just was not a fair trade.

Maybe the reason they are selling way below invoice is beacuse they are counting on making it up on the trade?

Hope I don't have to wait until the end of the month to see a deal like this again!

I got it from Miller Honda in Culver City. Send me an email and I'll give you details.
  • das1das1 Member Posts: 5
I agree that the price paid depends on local market conditions (supply/demand) & time of year (end of year is best...Nov, by my reckoning) and it pays to stay in touch with dealerships via Internet; deal only with the I-net manager & he/she will keep contacting you.

I waited till last week (end of year quotas) and just took delivery of an '06 Oddy EX-L w/R+N for $200 over invoice in Missouri, Kansas City. Excellent experience at Honda of Tiffany Springs, KC, MO - no hassles, financing in 45 mins (no sales push on the "usual high-ticket-bogus-value items" - plain numbers), superb explanations (they stayed back late for the walk-through) on the workings of the vehicle to get me going! For those in Missouri/Kansas looking for a deal (& no games) this is a highly professional dealership - warmly recommended.

Sorry for the delay...just got back from vacation. Yes, you are correct....he offered me the figure for the trade sight unseen. I was very clear with the salesman that I didn't want him to "dog" me on the trade, and he said no problem. And to me, it seemed that they didn't really assess the trade when it was on site. For my part, I did however present a well-maintained, clean car....OEM tires and brakes replaced within last 2-3K miles to boot.
I looked on their website, and they are selling my trade for just under 19K, so obviously know what they are doing.
I would highly recommend contacting Faulkner Honda if you are interested in buying new Honda and are within a driving distance that you can accept..sorry I cannot disclose the salesman name per the rules.

Okay, I've not gotten any responses to my first e-mail so now I need to know if anyone can give any good leads for the Houston area as I will be traveling there in less than 2 weeks and could get the vehicle there. I'm looking for an '06 Odyssey, touring with NAV and RES. Please help.
  • screechkempscreechkemp Member Posts: 3
A few helpful hints/experiences from my 'journey' after doing a significant amount of online (know the numbers, the std/optional equip. costs/pricing, customer reviews/feedback) and offline (drive the vehicle several times at several places).

Send out emails in your 'local area using Edmunds or Honda.com for a, and I stress 'Out the Door before taxes and title' quote...One quote, your best quote, as I will not be haggling, and will be buying this vehicle, somewhere, this week...'06 Odyssey EX w/L w/RES w/NAV Black exterior/Ivory interior (no alternate choices).

The quotes came back midway between MSRP and Invoice w/Dest - too high for my blood.

Expand your email quote solicitation geographically to within a day's drive or so (Nashville, Knoxville, Montgomery, Mobile, Birminham etc). The quotes were lower but still $800 to $1000 above invoice w/1 @ +$540 (and they had to drive 300 miles to get 'my' vehicle)

Expand your geographic range again...in this case up north, in the snow belt where perhaps a Black vehicle is not so highly prized. Eureka...Toledo OH...'will have to drive 100 miles to bring this vehicle from MI to sell to you at invoice'...$31665 + a small title/lien fee

Jim White Honda got my business, with Brown Honda the same + $100 (doc fee).

DO respond to/thank all who have contacted you, and ask for a specific price from those who have your vehicle (be sure to ask) or who are closer (cost of the trip/your time) to you than lowest price. For example, I sent back 'going up north to buy this vehicle OTD for 31665...save me the trip...32000. No takers anywhere in the south, but worth the try.

    Buyer Beware:

Be specific in your quote request: all charges, including destination fees...Out the Door, before taxes/title.

Hold the dealer to the quote (email/OTD specifics) I had the dealer throw out a doc fee that somehow got on the settlement statement but was NOT in the OTD email quote.

Do your homework on financing. Arrange this/negotiate if you need with the dealer. Make sure you know 'the rate' and the APR. I was quoted a rate...somehow a $175 loan orig. fee was on the settlement statement that had not been divulged previously. This was thrown out, after I objected in the strongest of terms. (LOFee is paid within your first payment/off the top - making a quick refinance more $ difficult). Prepayment Penalty? I should say not.

Extended Warranty coverage: do your homework (within Edmunds' forums)... come armed with your quotes, know the numbers, what is included/excluded, etc. I almost bought a 8 yr/120 mi 0/Ded for 1545 + tax, rolled into my payment (+$30/month)...+1800 over the life of the loan!? I think not...now the dealer is offering $125 cash back...or 10% down with 0% financing...you have time to decide...see forums.

And when you are considering bids/price you'll obviously need to factor in the cost of the trip (12 hours on the return trip thru snow and rain/dark - priceless) to get your vehicle what is it worth to you...and are things like mud guards, luggage rack cross bars, etc included or not included. The cost of these items can add up.

This isn't the ALL of getting the best deal...but one man's journey. Hope this helps...best wishes.

And apologies for the long windedness, as life is indeed short.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Good post, screechkemp. I am a bit surprised you couldn't get such a quote somewhat closer though as Voss in the Dayton area and Hugh White in Columbus are VERY competitive (to name only two). Still, though, you've shown (as have others) that Ohio is a great place to buy an Odyssey.

Oh, on that $100 doc fee that wasn't mentioned: though you may find this hard to believe, in fact, it is absolutely standard around the Buckeye State and its omission was probably just a oversight. Until September 2003 such a fee was limited to $50 by statute. That month it went up to $100. Unfortunately, all dealers here treat it as a "requirement" rather than the maximum intended by the legislature.

Also glad to hear Brown was competitive - I bought a Mazda at their store in Toledo a couple of years based on just a couple of emails in one day and it was a good experience. Sent first email on a Saturday morning (or night before, can't recall now) and we sent a couple of messages back and forth. Drove up that afternoon, arriving just as they finished prepping the car.

Any feedback on McDavid Honda in Houston? I've been quoted a OTD price of $35,748 +tax and tag. This is for a
    '06 Odyssey Touring with NAV/RES.
  • vasuvasu Member Posts: 12
Please refer to my earlier posts on this forum.

Send out the email quotes to all 20-25 dealer around bay area and see if you get the best price quote. I have seen that initally some dealer offer a little higher price and they come down few hundered dollars next time when they call you back or if you say you are getting a better offer somewhere else.

Try Berkeley Honda and San leandro honda. They both offered Honda EX-L at invoice price. So i am hoping you can get a better price for the vehicle you are looking for.

I am in the market for a '06 Odyssey EX-L w/ DVD, but am contemplating one w/ the NAV system. Have those of you who bought the NAV found it useful, and do you feel the extra cost was worth it? Or is a cheaper handheld NAV sys just as good? I am planning on using the car primarily for around the town use(to haul around the kids) w/ an occasional road trip thrown in. Any suggestions would be appreciated since this will help me narrow my choices when it comes to shopping for prices.
  • mom2fourmom2four Member Posts: 11
Like you, I will primarily be driving around town hauling
kids but I am very interested in the NAV because of the backup camera feature. That of course is not something you'd get with a hand held. HTH. :)
  • davantdavant Member Posts: 294
It all comes down to how much time will you spend on unfamiliar turf? We have a Touring R&N and I really like this NAV system, especially the integration, proximity warning system, and rear camera. You can get all of these installed for probably 3/4 of the cost (or less) but again, the selling point is integration. Nothing to remember to bring along, plug in, squint to see. Saves wear and tear on those neck muscles too not having to look past the kids to see what's behind you.

Around town the NAV can be a P.I.T.A. as no one needs to be reminded of where to turn if they know where they're going. The most useful features locally are the resturaunt help (reservations & by category), reverse telephone look up (biz mostly).

Out of town the NAV (and any other GPS guidance system for that matter) are wonderful! We went to Atlanta last weekend and I have no clue where anything was including the hotel. I had no need for a map or to ask directions other than a name. I put in the phone numbers, names, category, addresses, etc. and poof, it guided me to these locations. You can then locate points of interest along the route or near your destination or bee-boop between any previous destination (you don't have to actually go there, just create a route). You don't have to pre-plan before you leave home like I did but it was worth the two minutes. There was no guess work in locating everything we planned to see starting with moment I turned the key in the driveway. I even detoured around a congested traffic area (GA dome) using the NAV and located a Target and nearest gas station downtown (try that in a big city?).

The back-up camera and sensors make parallel parking much easier. This alone justifies the NAV even if you never use it much, and I bet you will.

Whether the Honda NAV system is cost effective is a personal decision. I feel it paid for itself this past weekend in not looking making me like a lost FL tourist, knowing what lane to be in, which streets are one way, the best way to get there, and helping us find all the right spots.

I wonder if anyone here have an odyssey but kids are all grown? I am in the process of getting a new car and is considering an odessey or a pilot. My kids are 18 and 19 and they have their own car (which mean we will only go out in the same car once in a long while). Some of the people that I talk to seems to like a minivan just for the room and sitting height etc and perfectly happy with the lower MPG and not as good handling... Can anyone share your thoughts?

I am in the lookout for the above model. Is there a dealership that you could recommend in Jersey up to Philly area where you had a good buying experience? Also how much is this model going for now?
    Much appreciate your insights...
