I had a superb experience overall. Got a great internet quote (that actually came down on the day of the deal) that nobody could match (DCH Academy just said no- they could not match and I respect that). I printed the instaquote out and drove to the dealership with my downpayment. I was assigned a senior salesman, who we totally admire. No pressure, no upselling - got me 3.9% Honda financing for 4 yrs, called my insurance - in all did a 5/5 job. Threw in wheel locks and 3yr free oilchange.
Did not get a good price on the trade-in ($500 below what we wanted). But anyway we didn't have the time and patience to sell it online or otherwise.
I understand the sale event is coming/has come to an end at Open Road but they are very price competitive. I was surprised that they remained cool and focused to their customer needs.
Highly recommend. If you need insights beyond what can be posted here, feel free to reply to this post.
I recommend remote locations as well. McMinnville being further from the city center seems to be making some of the best offers to get customers out there. Also, bargain hard and ask for accessories included in the price.
It seems that it is more difficult to get great deals on this minivan in the Northwest than in other parts of the county. I checked the regional markup adjustment and it is greater in the Northwest than in other parts of the country. My theory, based on observation and not scientific study, is that the Northwest is less focused on status symbols than other parts of the US and are thus more willing to get minivans instead of SUVs, Audis, Volvos etc.
IS this a good price?
We also live in Northern Virginia and bought our 2006 Odessey EX-L RES from Faulkner Honda on Friday Dec 30th. After doing extensive research on this edmunds site. Purchased through the Faulkner Internet Link for $2000 - $4000 less than any offer from Northen VA. Took two hours to drive up (easy drive Rt 15 through Maryland and into Pennsylvania). I went to school in Harrisburg and knew the area well. Our price was $29,400 + 3.17% VA sales tax ($932) + $45 tags. They also matched the Bernaldi HondaCare 8yr/120k Warranty @ $1281. Most of the VA/MD dealerships wanted extra fees for Processing, Freight, Wheel Locks, Floor Mats, etc.. With Faulkner, there were no hidden fees and they included the Wheel Locks and Mats for free (did not even have to asked for these extras). Our paperwork was ready when we arrived and all we had to do was look them over and sign. Most of the time spent was going over the features of the van. Kids love the DVD and the wife loves all the vans features. I was extrememly happy with the buying experience, no pressure and received by far the lowest price from any local dealership. The two hour drive was well worth the trip. Also, we took advantage of the 2.9% Honda financing.

To comment further on my recent post 11546. I wanted to reply and possibly help the folks who may live in the general Washington DC area thinking of purchasing a new Odessey. Prior to purchasing my new 2006 Odessey from Faulkner Honda in Harrisburg PA, I checked this Edmund's site looking for ideas and procedures for getting price quotes. We have never purchased a warranty in the past, but decided to add the 8yr/120k 0 deductible warranty. Originally I received an email quote from Bernaldi Honda for the 8yr/120k warranty. When I mentioned the warranty price quote, the Faulkner Internet Sales rep matched the price of the warranty - no questions asked.
Listed below are some of the other quotes I received from local Northern VA dealers. Some dealerships give Out the Door prices and others provided quotes that did not include the extras. Prices may have reflected end of year clearances. Hope this helps.
Bill Page Honda (2nd lowest quote) - $31,285.64 Out the Door Price
Hendrick Honda - $32,244.39 Out the Door Price
ROSENTHAL HONDA - $29,449 plus fees. Fees are: Virginia Tax: 3.17% (Taxes vary for other states) Virginia Tags: $64.50 (Tag charges vary for other states), Processing fees: $299, Freight: $550, Appearance package / dealer installed options ( if applicable)
Fairfax Honda - Fairfax Honda Internet Price: $30,145.00
Additional Charges: Freight $550.00, Processing Fee $289.00, VA Tags $44.50, VA Tax $992
Landmark Honda - $29,998, plus tax, license, document preparation charge, finance charges, destination charges, appearance package and PDI fee (used vehicles only), where applicable.

Worth consideration.
Glad you got a good deal and hope to do the same - I'm in Chicago too.
Bottom line, you can find dealers who will absorb that charge but if you wish to pay for it, go for it. I'm sure they'll gladly take your money.
Please tell me which dealership you dealt with.
Did you get any mud guards, all weather mats, roof rack, etc. with this deal?
I assume your tax was around 6%, correct? I am in Fulton, where mine would be 7%
Thanks for your help.
Bargaining from the "bottom up" is not an exact science, as there is no clear "bottom" here. I guess you could always bid $0, but I wouldnt expect many dealers to respond.

I researched what is supposed to be the no BS dealer cost through a non-profit magazine I can't mention, before buying. The Edmunds prices were within $100. Other web tools weren't far off either.
Happy trolling, don't be afraid to walk, get it in writing,
-Cheers
1) The previous poster had implied that the destination charge was not a true cost to the dealer. I questioned this. In his reply, he corrected this, while implying I didn't know how to properly negotiate.
2) I would like to get as much info as possible before going into a negotiation. The more accurately I can know the dealer's true cost, the better prepared I am. (Don't we all want to start from the "bottom line", whatever that means?)
3) Having all this info in the end saves me time, and money. That was the whole reason for me coming to this forum. To get info so that I can prepare my opening bid. I ended up emailing 30 dealers, which took all of 30 minutes. I got 4 voice mails. I called back all 4 dealers, which took me 1 hr. I called my local dealer to see if they could match. 15 more minutes. Called back one of the original 4 and verbally accepted, with an email sent to me to confirm the out the door price. Took me about 2 hr tops to get $200 under Edmunds listed invoice + destination charge. That wasn't much effort, and I saved about $1200 from purchasing from my local dealer, who was selling around Edmunds TMV. I could argue it took less effort this way, since I did all the negotiating from home, and had dealers bidding to me rather than going into a dealer's premise on his turf and haggling with them. So yes, the "effort" was well worth it.
I can highly recommend these guys, no hassle, no pressure to buy the dealer profit "add-ons".
Price paid was around $33,300. OTD total came to $36,250, with sales tax at 8.25%.
Wife and 2 year old love the van. Drove it up to Yosemite on Xmas day. After driving an A4 2.8 with quattro, I was pleasantly surprised with the handling of this van. Lots of power and great handling on the hills/mountains.
Hope this post helps a few of the bay area buyers. Most of all stay away from Steven's Creek/Sunnyvale/Santa Cruz, they wouldn't budge from MSRP, although if your looking for a non NAV-RES they will deal.
Menlo Park honda even gave me a sarcastic e-mail back saying they wouldn't sell a "vehicle of this stature" at my initial offer price of close to invoice.
Thanks
:confuse:
Grand Honda ran a advertisement in the Chicago Tribune that said all prices included destination charge and the only other fee's were $55 doc fee plus tax and license. The 2006 Odyssey EXL-RES was $28,444 just like the ad said and you could get it without extra equipment in a variety of colors. Bottomline it was that easy.

I contacted a bunch of dealers in & around Denver Metro area and the best I have done for EX-L is 29K + tax. Seems like lot more than what others have been getting in other metro areas. Any one else from Colorado who wants to share what prices they have paid around here for a similar vehicle??
thanks,
sanjay
Thanks :surprise:
Thanks
The only way you can know whether this is a good price is to shop, shop, shop and get dealers throughout the state competing against each other.
I got it from Klein Honda in Everett and had a great buying experience. NO pressure. Lower taxes in Snohomish County as well and no B and O tax added on.
$28,232.55 (selling price including $550 freight)
$913.95 (tax)
54.50 (Tags)
299 (Processing Fee)
===========
$29,500 OTD
This included an appearance package of wheel trim, door trim, mud guards, wheel locks and pin stripes. Rosenthal Honda in Tyson's Corner, VA also threw in 2yrs free oil changes to close my deal. Maybe minor, but shows of good effort I think.

More on buying experience...
I emailed around 10 dealers and called around...even visited 4 dealers in and around the beltway. Missed my best deal because the trade offered was too low. Finally found a good price to sell my current car to Carmax (+5k) over dealer trade!
We wanted Slate Green with Grey leather...found 3 in NoVa, 2 Slate/Olives in MD. MD dealers have lower processing fees...I basically got to $28,258.43 including freight from Herson's Honda in MD, then add $100 processing...gets to $29,250.68 OTD. Sport Honda was very close and very nice on the phone. Also had a good experience dealing with Brown's in Arlington. I preferred to work with Koons in Manassas as they are closest to my home, I showed them prices from other places and they wouldn't budge...stayed ~$1000 higher than anyone else. Hendrick Honda in Woodbridge came in second lowest initially, but really low-balled my trade...then a few days later would not honor the original quote, increasing ~$600.
My second choice for convenience was Rosenthal Honda in Tyson's Corner as its near my work. They had the color I wanted and were very competitive on price. They threw in the extras mentioned above and met me better than halfway in the difference on their original quote and my lowest quote. The Internet Sales manager was very nice and easy to deal with. We did spend about 2 hours from walking in the door to driving out (1hr after they closed on Saturday). Everyone was very nice and took their time to explain everything. The sales person went through the factory warranty and highlighted the owners manual. Then he walked us through most of the major features of the car and showed us how to do many things. I'm glad he took the extra time to even show how the center seat belts worked as it might have taken me a while. The sales person was even knowledgeable of the vehicle explaining the benefits of the VCM and ACE (after the sale was final).
i was a mechanic for over 20 years and for a honda or a acura to ever have a problem that would warrant spending that much for the warratny is not to often.
quote taken from Gov link
the emmision warranty covers alot of the parts For 1995 and newer model year vehicles, emission control and emission related parts are warranted for the first 2 years or 24,000 miles of vehicle use. Specified major emission-control components are warranted for the first 8 years or 80,000 miles of vehicle use.
that warranty covers a ton of parts.and with normal oil changes every 5K your not going to run into any problems..
this is why the resale is so high on these cars "they dont break"
paid 28253.00 for the EX-L that included the DST charge..
then was tax+License, out of 6 dealers this was the best i could do even with emailing everyone, others would go a little lower but would not budge on that $550 DST charge.
Pacfic Honda in San Diego,
finace guy would not let up on the warranty stuff.other
than that great place.
I have been looking since Jan 1 for an EX-L Res & Nav here in the southeast. I can find no dealers to come anywhere beneath $2000 over invoice...best offer at $33,900 ($2200 over invoice).
I notice on CarsDirect.com, that they claim to sell the following:
EX-L for $60 less than invoice: $28,198
EX-L Res for $60 less than invoice: $29,636
EX-L Res & Nav for $2200 over invoice: $33,900
Is this simply a supply & demand issue? I know that NAV is a $2200 option retail, but the lack of ability to negotiate to invoice and the $2200 option equate to a $4400 increase in price over the EX-L Res.
Anyone have any insight?
I bought from Lute Riley Honda, though I visited John Eagle Honda, David McDavid Honda, and called several other dealers. John Eagle was the first place I went because they were closer and they promised to match the advertised prices of other dealers, but when it came down to it, they could not get within $500 of the price and after three hours I walked out realizing that they misled me about willing to match prices. David McDavid Honda tried to include some extra charges, but they honored the advertised price within a few minutes and we almost bought from them, except they didn't quite have the color we wanted so we held out just a little longer.
Hey guys, I just purchased Honda Odyssey 2006 EX-L w/DVD/Nav and paid $31,640 plus tax,doc fee, etc. I am very happy. I bought in Oct 2005.
