I too was amazed at the prices...I got the bill of sales and the VIN number clearly states that the vehicle is EXL with NAV/RES. I received several quotes in the same price ranges, but only went with those that has a good reputation such as Crystal Lake and Mike Pruitt.

I should receive my Silver Odyssey Saturday or Sunday, with only 7 miles on it.

As for dealer holdback, the salesman from Mike Pruitt stated that their cost with holdback is $30,5xx. That is why they can offer those prices. My salesman will make about $200, which is reasonable.

It is definitely about supply/demand. In VA/MD/DC, the demand for that model is great and people are paying premium price for it...it the midwest, the demand is lower and the dealer is willing to move those harder to sell(more expensive) models quicker.

    Good luck to you.

    Samba,

LX Invoice 23361 including destination. All my local dealers quote me LX for 600-900 above invoice. I do get a quote of 300 above invoice, but not the color I want. DC area. For some dealer in OH, PA, NJ area, several hundreds under invoice is possible based on the discuss before.

2006 EX-L cash, no trade, with wheel locks in Portland, ME was 28208 out the door. State and town excise taxes are extra...can't negotiate those away. It's siting in my garage right now!

The best internet quoted price I am seeing so far on the EX L with Nav and Res is 31,123 + 550 freight and 99 service chg. This is from 4+ dealers in the DC metro area. Tow package for $695.
Anybody doing better in this area?

If you buy the car for $30,6xx and the dealer says hios cost is $30,5xx...then HOW can the salesman make $200?

    The numbers don't add up.

I want to thank this discussion board for sharing all their personal experiences. It certainly helped me. Last week I was on the verge of purchasing a Sienna XLE, but my conscience stopped me. It didnt help that most of the Toyota dealers were only interested in their commissions and unwilling to be honest with the price. Today I took delivery of my Odyssey Ex Cloth for 26,950 inclusive of all fees and taxes. I must have called 20 dealers of which 5 came in at the same price. The service I received was excellent. It seems Honda is a class above the others and they have certainly made a loyal customer out of me.
    ps,
(It pays to shop around. Honest and sincere worked for me) :)
Would appreciate comments, is this a good deal?

    biocube,

Congratulations on your new EX Odyssey. I think its not only Honda but also the Honda buyers are more active and cost concious. Congratulations to all of you...

Could you post some more details PLEASE....

Below are the 2 purchases of EX that I have logged from this forum. Could you give your price minus TTL(please add destination and any doc fees that the dealer charged you and leave out anything you had to pay the government). This will help compare with the below prices. Also could you mention your dealership and location that you purchased your vehicle. Will help everyone. Once again...CONGRATULATIONS....

Which dealership was this at? I am looking at an EXL w/ RES/NAV and would like to hear quotes.
  • mwlmdmwlmd Member Posts: 1
Anyone have any buying experiences with this model. I am looking to get one soon and have found local dealers to be less than cooperative. I am in the NW. The best price I have been quoted is $37100 inc. dest. Anyone done better than that?
  • wwdcatcwwdcatc Member Posts: 35
jmurman42 - you take everything too literal. If the car cost $30,519 and he charges me $30,879, he makes almost $200. If you wanted me to be down to the penny, then he makes about $170 or so. I was just rounding to the nearest $20.

    Are you an accountant?

i did purchase my lx at sam swope honda in louisville,ky on dec 31st, the 24k price included all fees including a $400 doc fee, the dealer does add a lot of "extras" like pinstripes, mudflaps, etc which are way overpriced but i didn't pay anything extra for those, also purchasing on dec 31 definitely helped lower the price, dealer inventory on lx's is generally limited so you might have to be flexible with color choices...good luck in your search...

3 dealerships in Las Vegas all via Internet Department.

Shack-Findlay was the easiest to deal with but they didn't have the right color.

Honda West was very helpful and not too pushy. They were desperately trying to unload a few colors I didn't want and said they could come way down on a Touring.

Desert Honda was HORRIBLE. Wouldn't give a quote via email or over the phone. Had to go by the dealership and still couldn't get a number after they appraised my trade. Awful service at Desert Honda.

Honda West - Las Vegas, NV
    Silver EX-L Res + Nav
    Purchase Price $32,699 +Fees,Taxes,etc. - Trade-in and tax rebate.
    OTD - was around $35,xxx.
No Add-ons or scotch guard or anything. Factory Fresh.

Couldn't match the Honda Care from Bernardi, so I will probably purchase that in a few days.

Was going to order it from the factory but they found one at the Alabama Assembly Plant and got that one for me. R+N are allegedly hard to come by in the EX-L model. Most people don't want the Nav. Silver was hard to get in Las Vegas as well.

Many thanks to everyone that has posted in the forums. I also used the spreadsheets over at CarBuyingTips

How much did you pay for the shipping from OH?
  • shangydshangyd Member Posts: 25
Although comparing to EX, there is no Power door, alloy, 6CD, 8th seat, etc for LX, but I think I can live with that for $3000 less. There are also some small features not available for LX: Lumbar Support, body-colored Molding and spoiler, headlights auto-off, rail, sunshade, and so on.

Anyway, I got a quote of LX for $300 under invoice (23361), which is about 23K including destination. Then add tax, tag, and registration. OTD price is about 24.4K. Is this a good price? Should I go for a EX? en...

    Bloomington
    EX-L 28,658 inc destination
    EX-L RES 29,996 inc dest

    Brookdatle
    EX-L 28,528 inc destination
Didn't price the EX-L res there

Is that in line with what you're seeing? One of my neighbors just bought from Bloomington for the 29,996 figure above so I know it's legit.

from Ohio to Virginia or Maryland was $300.

Internet quotes from different companies were $499 - $1200.
  • thebillthebill Member Posts: 194
Consumers have no idea how salespeople get paid. We only get a percentage after a certain number OVER invoice. Each dealerships' pay plans are different but I assure you, we get paid a percentage AFTER and OVER invoice, not all of it.

I hope this helps some consumers out there who seem to think that we are all out to steal.

I am interested in purchasing a Odyssey EX-L. I would like to do all of the negotiating online as I hate dealing with salesmen. Should I just e-mail all of the dealers in my area and ask for their best price? Or should I tell them that I will only accept bids that are at or below invoice since I know several people in my area that have purchased at this price? I can only afford the EX-L if I can get it at or below invoice. I just wasn't sure if I should tell dealers this when I e-mail them for a quote.
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
Usually you'll receive a no-hassle type price when you send out your inquiries. Accept the deals that are the closest to your desires. Also ask if they have the Ody in stock that you are interested in.

I can tell you that as the Internet Sales Mgr for a Honda dealership, we tend to give it out up front. You can usually do everything through the web and via phone once you have the dealership narrowed down.

Also some dealers will quote prices that do not include destination or fees...make sure you have the on the road pricing.

    Good luck to you.

Just got my new car last night. 25,545 (Inc Dest+Doc). TTL is extra.

The dealership was great, they helped with getting a rear camera installed. The car also came with a few extras, Muds, Roof Rack, Pin stripe etc. Was shown the dealer cost of the Roof Rack as 240. I think I could have gone lower as I had 3 dealerships competing for business, but I liked this dealer. They were sincere and priced low from the start. I called Mike Pruitt but they couldn't match and this dealer is just around the corner from me.

Ex Cloth 25,545 Ed Voyles, Atlanta. Ask for the sales person who sold a blue Odyssey on the 10th of Feb He is very professional. Tell him that the couple who purchased the Blue Odyssey sent you.

I also want to mention the other dealers who were close on price.

    Hennessy Honda, Woodstock GA.
(I think they could have beaten the price I paid).

    Willett Honda, Morrow Ga.
    (Very friendly)

Personally there were 3 important points to consider:

    SERVICE + PRICE + CONVENIENCE

If the service is good than its worth paying extra for the other 2 points.

    :)

Just picked up an EXL R&N in Bay Area for 32700 - incl dest and moon visor.

Made a rash decision to go with the xzilon protection at the last minute ( doh! ) but overall happy with the deal.

Its black ext. so xzilon seemed like a good idea at the time.

Does anyone have any experience with College Park Honda in MD? They currently have a 0% financing deal on new Honda's. I got an Internet quote close to the TMV. I haven't tried to negotiate yet as I live a fair distance away and haven't made it into the dealership. At 0%, I would be saving lots of $ on not paying any interest on this purchase. It all seems too good to be true. Does anyone have any experiences with this dealer? Do they have the 0% deal often? I am in no rush to buy this car as baby #2 is only due in a couple more months but I don’t want to miss out on this 0% rate. I have never seen Honda's with a 0% deal before.

If you need to finance the purchase, why wouldn't everyone in the DC VA MD area go to the dealer? What am I missing??? I haven't seen anything mentioned at all. Thanks for any insight!

I have been shopping for either an EX-L R&N or Touring R&N in and around the Bay Area. Best price so far for an EX-L R&N was $500 over invoice ($32,146) and Touring R&N was $100 over invoice. Both were done through the internet and phone with internet sales managers. It was pretty easy. The only thing is that silver pearl seems to be hard to get.

What dealer did you get your vehicle from and was it through the internet sales?
  • a4b5a4b5 Member Posts: 17
The prices I mentioned are from dealers in the Twin Cities MN metro area.

Could the two recent posters in the Bay Area share the dealerships you have spoken to and your impressions of each? I am a Berkeley resident, soon to be in the market for an EX-L RES / NAV. We have some dealerhips nearby (El Cerrito, Oakland, Berkeley) but I'm willing to travel. Thanks.
  • lmipsrlmipsr Member Posts: 3
Got mine in Livermore. El Cerrito were coming in at 1K over invoice. Oakland were a little higher. Berkeley Honda never responded.

They were all close in the end. Just a matter of what they have in stock and proximity to you house.

  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
I have yet to get an answer from College Park Honda about 0% ads they are running on Google.

They have in the past "bought down" the rate...which means that they charge you more for the Ody, relative to the interest rate and say that you are getting 0%.

For example, lets say that a EX Ody sells for 26,000 and the current interest rate is 5%

The 0% game is like this they sell the car for 29,000 and "show you" 0% rate. Again, this is just a simplified example.

There is a reason that College Park doesn't have evryone beating down their doors...but that's games that DC area dealers play.

Took the missus to the dealer for the first time today. I just wanted her to drive a new Odyssey and explained to the sales person that I wasn't ready to start negotiating. I did however take note of the window sticker and along with the expected MSRP and Destination charge was another sticker with Dealer Installed Equipment:

    $399 - Dealer Prep
$395 - Protection Package (splash gaurds, cargo tray, wheel locks)
    $99.95 - Pinstripe

I asked the sales person to explain what $400 worth of "dealer prep" was. She had a hard time explaining it and said the mechanics inspected it and removed all the tape stuff that came on it from the factory.
I know this is all a load of crap for the dealer to make more money, but should I expect all dealers to have this??? :confuse:
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,279
Don't worry about those extras... When you get ready to make an offer, make it clear that your offer includes all money due the dealer.. and that the only additions you will pay are taxes and government title/license fees..

Then, they can break it down however they want... Those kinds of charges are only there to confuse the issue... and raise the price over what you've already agreed to pay.

    regards,

I lived couples mile from College Park Honda, but never try their business, nor of my friends. They normally give very good price over internet, then charge 2000 for protection packeage after you get there. They said it is standard with the car, which is not true. You may get that package for 1500 after spending a whole day there. They will send different people to keep you there. Finally you can figure out the price for the car.
BTW I got my Accord from Sport Honda,MD and Odyssey from Faulkner Honda, PA. Those dealership are nice and honest.
  • shangydshangyd Member Posts: 25
Finally I got my Odyssey LX in red from Faulkner Honda, PA. THe price for the car is 23K including distination, which is about 360 under invoice(23,361). The only extra is Tax, title and registration.
The Internet department from Faulkner is very nice. No games play around. You could check inventory on their website, including VIN/color. I put down refundable $100 to hold the car. They will delivery the car for free up to 400 miles. But I would like to drive the car home since it is only 110 mile from my home.
After got there, the car was clean and paper was ready. After test drive, we signed the paper and drive the minivan home. It only take less than 1 and half hours because my salesperson is really busy with other customers. They explain the warrenty, but no push at all. They also try to find some financial for us, but would like to take anything we have.
You could found the same name from previous post. This is the Best car buying experience ever.

    State fees $ 8.89
    Dealer fees $ 344.50
    Tag transfer $ 85.00

    Another gave me

I will sell an in stock 2006 Honda Odyssey EX-L for $31,228.35. Price includes all fees and is based on 6% sales tax and tag transfer

Price sounds pretty good, any thoughts?

Brevard County prices tend to be among the highest in the Florida. You might want to get quotes from the Orlando stores. Be sure to get one from the dealer in Daytona Beach (they had the best price I found last March).

Stay away from College Park Honda, they use the 0% APR to lure you in. In the local Post ad they have a little asterik next to the 0% APR that states it will effect the final price. They will not negotiate and they have limited selection with high pressure sales.

I paid $29,290 at Pacific Honda for an EX-L with RES (includes Pro-Pak). I had spoken to the SD-based dealer several times over the phone and could only get them down to $30,200. When I indicated I had an internet quote from Spreen Honda (Riverside, CA) of $29,290, they indicated I should print out the quote, bring it in, and they would match based on their "advertised pricing matching" program. I was skeptical, but they honored the Spreen price with absolutely NO hastle. The process went very quickly and I am VERY satitified with my new car.

I did use this forum to get a ballpark number on EX-L prices to my advantage. Its pay back time. Finally decided to call a few dealers around San Jose and found Capitol Honda pretty decent to deal with. Called their internet salesperson Daniel and agreed on $200 above invoice. All in all good buying experience. Its EX-L with NO RES or NAV. Let me know if you need specifics.
