bjk2001 keep trying the services down south and I may try the same up here. Raybear works for one of them but I want to check it out first to make sure it's not one of those advertising sites the dealers pay a fee to. Those have been a waste of time.
This is really funny or strange I should say. I read two posts regarding a good deal @ valleyhi.com. I typed in the Web URL and its a dealer @ Victorville which is about 72 miles from my house according to yahoo maps. They have a fleet/internet department. I am still debating whether to contact them or not. And guess what I saw in the company parking today. After a days work, I was walking toward my car and saw 2 white Odyssey EX parked side by side. One of them is a brand spanking new which still has yellow dealer's name on the license plate. It says "Valley-Hi". I think I am going to send them a "quote request" tomorrow.
On the 2nd thoought, I chatted with wife today briefly regarding the Odyssey price over MSRP. Toyota Sienna looks more attractive now. *LOL*
Good luck for your Odyssey hunting.
He does MSRP and if you negotiate for options you can get those for less than MSRP.
Plus, there is a Toyota dealer right next door for close comparisons which should clarify things when you can see them almost side-by-side. (grin)
If you really want the details, I could look it up and write you a note... but I did NOT buy the Ody in Dec. 2000. I had the quotes, from a dealer in Alabama (near the GA border, perhaps in Auburn, AL?).
I would suggest writing an email to dealers in small towns (like Gainesville, GA etc.) and ask them for a firm price. I also told them I wanted a FIRM DRIVE OUT PRICE - with NO DEALER ADD-ON's. You will be surprised how many people write back. If time is on your side, you can even do some price matching negotiations!
Good Luck.
I have a request for a quote from one of the internet companies now. I have to wait two days to see what we can find.

I live in Atlanta and talked with all the Atlanta metro dealers and the dealers in surrounding areas including Gainesville. All of these dealers were adding the apperance protection package for about $900 (additional dealer mark-up).
Puchased my 01 SS EX from Alton Blakley in Sommerset, Ky at $1000 below MSRP ($25,840) with no unwanted dealer add-ons. They threw in mud-guards for free. We puchased on 1/13/01. Others who have contacted say that Blakley is now selling for $500 below MSRP. It is about a 350 miles drive from Atlanta. Saving $2000 was well worth a day's drive for us.
I simply walked in and told them I would pay MSRP. They laughed, so I walked out and went to drive away (I figured the chances were 50/50 that they would come and get me). They actually let me start driving before the sales manager came out of the dealership and stood in front of my car and said $500 over MSRP. I said no. He said that I was crazy and good luck... I would never get that price.
So I rolled my window up, and started driving; then they sent a salesman out in the shuttle van to come and get me as I drove off. I drove back to the dealership and they agreed on MSRP with no options. They gave me the VIN # and I waited two weeks for the van. BTW, my wife loves the van.
The whole process of purchasing the van took less than 15 minutes. Why hassle with a long time negotiating... just offer list (or your price), and if they don't like it just walk out. That's the quickest way to know whether they will do MSRP. Which most will.
Good luck everyone!
Sorry to hear what happened to your wife's Odyssey hunting. I was so busy at work this week. Didn't have chance to send it and request. But I did get a quote last week for an EX @ MSRP+ $1000 same price as 1 month ago, but different color. Anyway I am still shopping around. 4/15 is coming, have to take care my Uncle Sam and Uncle Grey Davis first. Got a message regarding a dealer in Indio who will do MSRP, but Indio is going the other direction from me. Anyway, keep my option open. Looking at 2002 Ford Explore XLT with 3rd row seats, too. I got a $400.- owner loyalty certificate from Ford. Well good luck to you!
Happy Easter. Hope Good Friday bring you some good luck.

The Canadian plant will reduce Ody production by eliminating those made for the USA. The Canadian plant will make Odys for the Canadian and non-USA market. The remaining capacity of Canada is supposed to be dedicated to a car line.
I am interested in buying a 2001 Odyssey. In the beginning of the notes page I see that people are/were? paying MSRP plus extra.
The dealerships I have called have these vans on the lot in the color I am looking for. Two questions. First, shouldn't we the consumers be paying a price somewhere between Invoice and MSRP--and not MORE than MSRP?
Second, when I compare the Odyssey with other vans in Edmunds, it is the only van that has a TV HIGHER than the MSRP?
I have been living in Greece for the past 10 months--am I missing something about this van??
please help!!

Most parts of the country are selling at MSRP. Bay Area of CA seems to still be over MSRP. Parts of Ohio and Kentucky seem to be under MSRP. If a dealer has one unsold - they know it will be sold very quickly. Call around to dealers to find out their price, if any add ons (ie dealer options required), and the wait time. Then go with the one you feel best about.
Only two complaints. He slapped a Moss Motors sticker on the back when I wasn't looking. It was supposed to come with a FULL tank of gas, but I topped it off with $6 of gas before leaving Lafayette.
I got 25.0 miles per gallon doing 70 mph down Interstate 10, a/c running, regular unleaded gas. No unusual sounds. Smooth ride straight down the road. Wife loves it. So do I.
Tell Danny that Tommy Lew sent you.

My dealer got an "extra" allotment of five Odysseys after he sold the initial 18 within 1-1/2 days after landing. They're still getting at least 2K over MSRP (used to be 3-4K in the beginning). The other two also got extras, but the color choices varied. Went over on 4/01 to check on the choices and picked Granite Green after the test drive. Put down my $500 refundable deposit.
Closed the deal on 4/14 for MSRP ($26,840) + TTL. Asked for and added a few trim items + extended warranty of 6 yrs./100K for $895. I'm in the insurance business and this was better (price and benefits) than other comparable plans I checked out before-hand: zero deduct + extra services. The dealer made some extra $$$ on the trim items, but so what? They're in business and didn't waste my time. Less than ten minutes in F&I signing documents and giving them the check. BTW, the car still had only 20 miles on the odometer, possibly five more after I put the deposit down.
We're surrounded by the big, blue Pacific, so there's no driving over the state-line to find a "better" deal elsewhere. Our tax is around 4.17% (actually a 4% excise tax on businesses, not a true sales tax, so businesses pay tax on the tax). What is it in California, 8%?. If we try the Oregon manuever, Hawaii assesses our rate upon landing unless we can prove it's a USED car! My experience is that two of the dealers here would have priced me at MSRP, the other would have tried for $1K ADM (hey, that's $1.5K less than their usual on this vehicle) before relenting.
I went this one because of past dealings and the availability of exactly what I was looking for.
BOTTOM LINE: I'm happy and satisfied ..... and not with just the price!
Heard from my dealer here in Cincinnati Weds. that my GG EX is on the truck and will be in by Friday. They asked me about options, negotiated good price for roof crossbars and Hondacare, gave a little on the cassette player. They threw in the cargo tray. I'll get the mud flaps, nose deflector, and wheel locks from the web. Here are my line item prices:
GG EX $750 under MSRP = $26,090
Cassette player = $ 229
Cargo Tray = $ free
Cross Bars = $ 79
HondaCare 7/100/$0 ded. = $ 900
Document fee = $ 50
Title = $ 10
Temp Tags = $ 10
Tax -Ohio(6%) = $ 1,641
Loan app fee (6.84%/60mo)= $ 125
I plan on picking it up on Monday. Got my checklist and will report on the pickup experience.
Price: MSRP: $24300 with transportation.
Total Cost: 26297 with tax, title, License, and
DOC Fee in Illinois
Where: Honda of Lisle, Lisle, Illinois
Wait: 6 weeks from the time we first spoke with
our sales person.
Outcome: We are very pleased with the dealership
and our van.
I have been in contact with Canadian dealers who tell me that they cannot sell to Americans. Using a car broker is the suggested way.
The cost saving seems to be US$4000-5000 when compared to paying US list and even more if you pay MSRP+. (Using a US EX at US$26,840 vs. a Canadian EX at US$21,840 with exchange rate of 1.58)
I have identified 2 problems. First the new car warranty is not valid in the US. Secondly, the odometer and speedometer are calibrated in Kilometers not Miles. Buying a HondaCare (7 yr/ 100k mile) warranty may be the solution to the first problem. There are shops which specialize in converting speedometers/odometers, but as yet do not know the cost.
Does anyone know of any other drawbacks or the warranty question? All advice/experiences appreciated.
Friendly honda in upstate NY, near Poughkeepsie (1.5 hrs from Manhattan), is taking orders at MSRP on Odysseys. They wanted a $100USD refundable deposit and 4 month wait. No forced dealer options. No chance of going below MSRP. This was in early March.

I ended up buying a T&C, but this dealership was pleasant both times I went there.
There may be a problem registering a car from another country in the US. If there is the slightest difference in emission control systems, safety systems, crash test results, bumper height, headlight specs, the car might need to be converted. I think these are more issues if you want to bring a car from Eurpoe or Asia, but you should double-check.
Buy the time you pay a broker, buy a 2rd party warranty, pay to change out the speedo - is it worth it??
Also, changing out the odo/speedo presents problems at resale time - legally you have to claim mileage unknown. That hurts resale tremendously.
I ordered my EX w/ NAV through Brown's Arlington Honda (Virginia) via UBS (301-657-1920) on Feb 3, 2000 and recd vehicle on Jan 7, 2001. We have over 3,000 miles on it and no problems. Good luck!!
The other problem is the speedometer. You can leave it alone and run kilometers as long as you have it, or you can change it out for one in miles. If you change it out, you'll have to certify "mileage unknown" on the federal form when you sell it, unless the kilometers at changeout were certified by an approved 'agency.' I read on this thread a while ago that the State of Washington was using the State Police for the certification so that residents of Wash. state could import Canadian market Odys. Good luck.
I am a first time 'poster' here on Edmunds tho' i have been reading the posts here for some weeks now.
I have decided on a 2001 Odyssey EX with just the standard factory installed stuff and no extra options !
I followed the advise given by some members of faxing my specs to all dealers in the area and asking them for their best price.
Most of them are only selling it to me at MSRP or a few dollars off MSRP.
I would like to know from members here if any of them received a better deal at any of the dealers in the DFW metroplex area ?
And if so,what was the deal and name of the dealer and salesperson ?
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks.
