Now the long version. I began my search by reading recent posts. I went to a dealer (Crown in Durham NC), test drove a vehicle and determined that I wanted the DVD entertainment system. Knowing a ballpark price range for EXL+RES, I asked the salesperson for a rock-bottom price. I got a ridiculous price and the line "bring me another offer and we'll match it". The script was right off from an Edmunds article, as I learned later.
Then I solicited internet bids from 10 dealers within 50 mi. of my house. I purposefully left out two dealers closest to me so that I could call them and negotiate (one was Crown). I received 7 replies within 36 hrs. Most quotes were in the 30,500 range OTD. I pressed one dealer for a better price and got to 30,300.
I then called one of the two dealers and the salesperson said, after consulting with management (of course), that they could beat it by a couple hundred dollars. Two hundred, I said? Yes, two hundred. Big mistake by me: always get a price instead of the discount, and get it in writing if possible. With this "price," I called Crown and replied via email to several other dealers. Crown was not able to walk the talk and after some laughable apologies and made-up reasons said they could not match it. Other dealers that gave me quotes were straight up and said they could not match the quote in hand. A couple dealers matched that price but nobody was willing to beat it. It was time to settle for a price and add in some frills (mudguards, etc).
I called the dealer that had given me the quote on the phone to suggest that they add the frills, and suprisingly their quote had increased by $100. They claimed the original quote had been a miscommunication between the manager and the sales person. After some haggling they did go down to the original price. The next day I called early in the AM to seal the deal. To my surprise the sales person was off that day. The owner balked at the deal and the sales manager could not remember the conversation with his salesperson (!!!). So I simply never called them back and went to my second best dealer (Burlington). Burlington was second because they had an Ody in a slightly less preferred color but the price was the same.
The internet salesperson at Burlington (the sales manager --good indication) was straightforward and played no games. The price I was quoted OTD was the price I got. It was a real pleasure bringing my business to them. They were professional and corteous. No wonder they are a President's Circle dealer (apparently this DOES mean something). In retrospect, I think I could have negotiated the price down to 29,900 or so by playing one dealer against the other one more time. I wasn't willing to do that, so I settled for the price reported above. All in all, a positive experience. I highly recommend using the internet for pricing and negotiation. It takes away the dreaded and slimy "I will talk to my manager" and the time you spend sitting like a lame duck playing games in a cubicle at a dealership. A few hours of emailing got me a decent deal.
walking into the dealer with research is like to add to a lengthy/frustrating experience, perhaps one where you let down your guard and pay too much just to be done with the process. The emailing process is painless, avoids frustration and keeps you out of their turf, where with research or not, they are in control. (their experts in moving cars at top dollar!)
Note your apprehension "26/27k is amazing to me!" Any guy selling cars will read right into that and will be helping you to understand why that "is" too good to be true, and next thing you know your paying 28 or 29. which is too much.
Get email quotes, narrow down exactly what you want and price. Go into the dealer and drive the EXACT car you will buy. Making sure no squeeks, etc. Buy the car for the exact pre negotiated price. Anything less and its highly likely that you will walk out with the short end of the stick.
Good Luck.
I also bought EX-L last friday, and now looking to buy som accessories e.g splash guards, all season mats, anybody has any information where to buy these cheap ?
thanks.
Is the 27k quote that you received from Dublin Honda for an EXL w/o Nav & RES?

They said invoice price was 27735, MSRP was 30290. We felt that this was a great dealership and great pricce, but now I am beginning to wonder based on things posted here.
If anyone out there has a EX price point to compare or any other info on the EX and not EXL I would appreciate it!!
I would like to buy an EXL RES/NAV or Touring RES/NAV in the coming days but I am in the process of moving from DFW area to TN. Should I buy first or after the move? is there a significant difference in price, TT&L, etc? Miles are not a problem because I would trailer to TN if I bought it in DFW.
Thanks in advance!
Erik
Is there someone at Right you would suggest seeing? We went there 2 days ago and had a horrible experience, most of the fleet looked bad and had lots of dead batteries! Thanks
Funny I went to the website and could only show a price of $1,130.00 for Honda Care 120k W/ 100 DED.
Did you call and barter this price down?
owner is asking 25k. I am wondering if this is worth paying. If not how much i can ask for? Any help in thismater is greatly appreciated
owners price 25k
how much i can ask for ? Iam planning to ask 23k ...
We will likely buy this week if we can put everything together.
Email dealers in both places for price quotes. IIRC reported DFW prices have been pretty good. Sorry, don't recall any recent numbers from Knoxville.
Price: $34,995.00
Docs: $ 55.00
Sales Tax: $ 2,891.63
License: $ 227.00
Reg/Title: $ 64.00
CA Tire: $ 8.75
OTD Total: $38,241.38
I got also the 2.9% 36-mo financing.
I got a quote via e-mail on 5/26 from same dealer, about $1k higher than above. Then I got a quote from another dealer through Costco, which was $300 higher than the above. Headed to Capitol Honda and negotiated for 30 mins, and got the above pricing. However, it took another 3 hs after agreeing on pricing to leave with the Ody. I assume the delay was due to the high customer traffic they had on that day. Besides the long wait, everything proved to be a good car buying experience and I am happy with the pricing I got. I would recommend this dealer.
Thanks
I'm here to let you know that I leased a 2007 Odissey a month ago and it is deffective. American Honda won't do anything about it, I'm renting a car in the meanwhile and I'm having to take judicial action.
I don't wish it on anyone.
It was leased on Coral Springs Auto Mall, in Coral Springs, FL.
I wish I came across a post like this when I was researching about this car in this same messafe boards.
Oh well...hope you guys don't commit the same mistake.
It seems like people here are getting EXL pricing not much more than what I see for an EX. I'm still trying to talk down, my lowest is about $1000 less than you have gotten. They have plenty of silver pearl metallic I think. I'll keep you posted if we get any great deals!
Any other EX owners or soon-to-be owners have price points they got?
Good luck.
Thanks for all the posts, great help for me. And thanks Mr. Donkey for you of your help as well!
Did all bids on line, within 24 hrs. had negotiated price and next morning picked up van. Lowest prices came from Chicago area, Carr, Ohare and McGrath- which had the lowest at 28,250 in every color. No one in Indy would even talk to me about going lower than 30. I got one guy to price match in Cincy at Superior-- Midnight blue, no extras, barely got anything for my 10 yo jeep GC Laredo trade in. They were actually great to work with. Jeff Wyler wouldn't consider going lower than 28,8. We did not finance through Honda.
So 28,250 sale price in Ohio. We will do everything else, TTL here in Indy. Also found a guy on ebay for all weather mats, cargo tray and flaps.
All in all, I feel like we paid a good price, probably could have gotten better if our time frame had been longer, but for 24 hrs. work, I think it was great.
They also had about $1k in dealer add-ons (pins trips, moonroof visor, mud guards, cargo mat & environmental protection package) that I'm looking to have thrown in but they have been pushing back on including these items in the deal.
Since this is about the invoice price I'm sure Honda's throwing money into the deal. Any word on whether there is more than the $750 OEM to dealer cash? Or how far below invoice have others gotten?
1st day of haggling over the phone has produced a price of 26,500.
I see that a copule of people in Georgia got theirs for below 26K, so I'm gonna keep hagglin'...
I suggest that you shoot for no more than 25,500 for the EX. I paid 25,800 for mine, but after reading this and other forums I see where many buyers are getting their EX's in the low 25k's. Mine is Slate Green and has no extra's other than the mud flaps and cargo tray (which the dealer had listed on the sticker for $990!!!!).
Good Luck!
Also dont get into the trap for paying outrageous prices for these accessories caz even on honda website or later from these dealers, you can find them quite cheap at normal msrp prices. But best bet would be to buy these accs. from online stores selling honda accessories for almost 30~40% less msrp prices.

The deal I'm considering there has all of those items, but was at $31,783 plus TTL, which by my estimates is about $33,970.
